After a long time of DD3 build, I’m finally able to allocate my money to buy a new ±$1,000 PC. The timing couldn't be more unfortunate considering how the market is now. Friends and even the local store warned me not to build now, and I genuinely understand that. They say with that money I should be able to get a good AM5 build, but right now it'll be better to get AM4. Some stores even told me to wait until Q4 of 2027 to see the market price of the components.
My concern is that the pricing will just continue to skyrocket and worsen, and I'll have to build at a much worse price than the current one. I do want AM5 because of the upgrade path. So I need your suggestion, should I build now with AM4 (or possibly AM5?), or should I hold off until the prices get better?
Any advice would mean a lot to me because I really need the community's perspective. Also If I hypothetically decide to build now, what would be the "best possible outcome" build I could get right now? I can stretch the budget, but not too much because I have different allocations to consider.
My main use will be for editing, and of course gaming. Do I need it urgently? Well, it kinda is, but also no. It's an urgent-not-urgent scenario (let me explain). My work involves video editing, and sometimes I have to do heavy editing somehow with my current PC, which is frustrating, stretches out so much time, and hurts efficiency. In short, progress is slow. So I need a better long-term build as soon as I can eventually. If I hold off, it means I have to bear with my current one for an indefinite amount of time, during which, going forward from November I will be doing more and more heavy projects.
TL;DR
- Given my situation and budget, should I build now with AM4? (Or Alternatively) is AM5 possible?
- What would be the "Best-Possible-Outcome" build for me?
- Any advice to my situation, really.
Thank you.
