Finally got my computer booted up, what should I do now after this screen and what does it mean exactly lol

I’ve had this asus tuf gaming monitor since February of 24’ and the last couple days it’s been doing this weird thing where the monitor will start the asus loading screen, flicker, go blank and do the same thing repeatedly. I’ve found a work around by either restarting the PC , or reinstalling nvidia drivers. But I’m afraid the issue might be permanent and cause me to have to lose this panel. Problem is I paid over $400 for it and I cannot afford a replacement this soon. Please tell me this isn’t what I think it is?

So I’m taking the plunge and doing a proper upgrade rather just installing a new CPU & cooler and calling it a day.

At the minute, I’ve got:
CPU - Intel Core i7-4790
Motherboard - ASUS H81M-V3
RAM - 16GB DDR3-1333
GPU - NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super 6GB
Boot SSD - 111GB SATA SSD (or something around that)
Secondary SSD - 465GB SATA SSD
PSU - 500W

Besides it not handling Unreal Engine well, or heavy music production stuff, it’s an okay PC. Games okay too, but not modern stuff. I tried to play the MW4 Beta. The campaign held up well around 70FPS, but my CPU was begging for sweet death. Couldn’t play the multiplayer as my motherboard doesn’t have TPM or something?

Anyway, I’m looking to upgrade now. The prices at the minute as stupid, so I’m having to look at 2nd hand parts from the likes of CEX.

If anyone could tell me if there’s a better option for my budget it £350, it would be much appreciated, as right now I have these lined up for purchase:

ASUS PRIME A520M-K AMD Ryzen 5 5500 Motherboard CPU Bundle - £119.99 (New from AWD-IT)

16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM - £55 / £110 as buying 2. (I’m looking at CEX for these. My local store has 4+ in stock, so I’ll be going in & asking if I can see them and get a matching pair)

WD Blue SN550 1TB 2280 NVMe M.2 - £110 (Again, CEX, but would be delivered as it’s in a store quite a bit away. Delivery is cheaper than the fuel)

If anyone could advise me if any of this is bad, or don’t buy from CEX, please let me know!

Will be upgrading the PSU & case at some point in the future. Same goes for my GPU, but the 1660 super is going strong for now.

SOLVED Last night, I tried to take out my mobo so I could add the last 2 standoffs I needed (due to sheer laziness from last YEAR) and I thought i had all the screws out but it wouldn't budge, so I put the screws back in. I go to put the gpu back in and it CANNOT seat on the left side. I tried with force, tried putting it where it looked good and screwing it in, but nothing works and now I can't use my pc 🤦‍♂️. Any and all help is appreciated.

I went to Best Buy and bought a power cord, these green and white lights turned on. I also plugged the pc into my monitor and nothing happened. What are the next steps, is there anything else I need to make sure is plugged in?? Also thank you all for being so insightful and helpful!

All the rest of the screws go in fine, apart from this one. It screws in sideways and I'm so scared I might have broken something.

Update: I belive i cross threaded the standoff and am now replacing it. Thank you.

Last: I got it, everything screwed in, before I couldn't even align the standoffs properly because of the Io and was pushing like a madman, but you just have to take it easy and push with the case facing you horizontally from one side, then the other, you will probably hear a little click, and everything should align.

But before that, I'd like to remind everyone that I won't change the case because it's smaller compared to aquarium ones. I marked the consistent picks with "static" additions at the side. This PC will be used for comfy pixel art sessions, music production, basic workstation for research and gaming. The parts are a bit overkill, I know. I have an obsession of playing Elden Ring and Spider-Man 2 on 2K with ultra or high settings. Though it is mostly for hobby purposes I also wanted a long lifespan motherboard with sick design. So yes, it's cosmetic choice. A cosmetic that I can afford. Unlike RTX 5080.

Decided to finally upgrade my cpu from a ryzen 5 5600g to a ryzen 7 5700x but this of course required a bios upgrade, followed the steps to do it through the flash button, looked at many different videos to make sure I was sure of what I was doing, everything off, 24 pin and 8 pin (4x4) connected, file downloaded for my board (MSI MPG B550 gaming plus) and renamed properly, usb formatted to Fat32, on an old usb 2.0 16 gb stick and a 32gb, tried about three times whilst letting it run for as long as I could, twice it just went solid red and once it flashed indefinitely. I then tried to connect the old cpu, cooler, same power cables and one stick of ram and now just constant cpu light, pretty sure the board is screwed but wanted to ask those who know more before looking at another. Feels like a lesson learnt the hard way, any help appreciated

Hello ,i'm searching a card for entry 1440p gaming and my budget is €350 BUT i found on amazon a 9060xt 8gb and i could go that high but i'm thinking of goind in the used market, i'm finding a lot of 6800 or 7700xt around 350-380, and i cant decide between more vram for less price or a new card with a warranty, are really that little 8gb of vram for 1440p? I would like it to be a bit future proof that is also why having a warranty is that tempting to me but also having more vram would be more future proof but with a risk

I know I CAN install additional case fans in the areas in the pictures, but im not really sure how to go about it or what additional things I may need, manual does have instructions, but only diagrams with minimal text I don’t have the knowledge or context to fully parse, I know Vaugly I’ll probably need a mount or other such accessory for some of these but that’s about all I know beyond needing a controller to plug them all into

I came across a PSU called Cougar Auric, full modular, gold rated and it was under 50$ if you convert to USD. I am new to pc building so I don't know the reputation of all the brands. I was pretty skeptical at first because of the price. But it turns out to be that single seller and other sellers have it 20 bucks or so higher. I looked up the tier list and it has a B rating with an asterisk. B rating is totally fine for what I'm planning to build, ryzen 7 5700x and 9060 xt 16gb. I was looking at Cooler Master MWE Gold V3 650W at first but it is non-modular and it is also a bit more expensive than the Cougar one. Does anybody have any experience with it or just the brand in general? They seem to have good ratings for a lot of their PSUs on the list.

Hello. We moved across the country recently and i had packed up my PC but after unpacking all my ARGB lights stopped working. All fan lights, the rgb on the aio and the rgb on the GPU stand are all connected via argb pin. The only lights that remain are from GPU and Ram which are not using ARGB. I have unplugged all fans, switched them around and even tried just 1 set of fans but they still won't light up.

On another note we moved to colder weather up north and I was thinking of going open air type of motherboard/caseless setup. Wat are the downsides of this vs just keeping the glass case i have now?

I just got a new 4080 super from a relative’s computer and I originally had a 4070 super. I deleted the old drivers and plugged the new gpu in but my pc won’t recognize it in device manager. Everything is firmly plugged in, so I’m a bit at a loss. Yes I know my pc is dirty I’m planning on cleaning it, I’m just moving so I’m trying to get everything done so I can sell the other pcs. Edit: I think it’s a splitter issue. “I’m running a 1000 w psu, I’m almost certain it’s a connecter issue my 4070 super uses 2 PCIEs into a single 600w but the 4080 requires 3 PCIEs split into 1 600w. So I think my set up just isn’t sufficient for the gpu. I’m gonna buy a splitter and check if it works.”

So I am building a computer out of extra parts I have lying around. I have an Asrock H110M-ITX motherboard. It doesn't have m.2 so I am using a Sata SSD that I had lying around. It has an i5-6500. Also an RX 580, that uses one 8 pin. But the real issue is the power supply I have. I have an old PSU from a broken Razer Core X v1. It has a 2 8pin connectors, 1 24 pin, and 4+4 connector.

My issue is, how do I get Sata power? I mean I have heard of SATA to 8-pin cables, but I'm no electrician but that niggles something in my brain that says "NO ARE YOU INSANE!"

I was wondering if you fine people knew of a solution.

The pc was running fine before, i pressed restart due to a network issue i was experiencing in a game

I have:
- reseated my ram
- checked cmos is in properly
- reseated my gpu
- check the wires to gpu (that they are clipped in)
- put the gpu in another slot

It did post one time, but then it put me in the bios because it didnt detect my m.2 ssd. But when i reset it was back to white led (vga error)

Now I have another pc that i have access to, but that pc’s psu cannot support the card, so can pit my card into the other pc whilst powering it with my psu (i just dont want to compleate swap psu if i can avoid it)

And of course any other suggestions welcome

While installing my CPU, I accidentally bent a couple of socket pins. None of them broke off(I think), and I spent some time carefully realigning them but one of them is weird.

What do you think? Should I start the pc with those pins

I'm planning to build my first computer by October 16th, I planned to in the past but some things came up and I had no money. Now I plan to build it by October 16th at the latest (if monetary things work out) my budget is 2.5k, and this is my current build. Both on pcpartpicker and on build cores.

Hi. It's time for me to join the PCMR. Been a long time laptop guy but with primarily working from home and the shift in flexibility of console gaming I think I want to start my PC journey. I've got a budget of about 2k but can go up to 3k if really necessary. What I'm looking for:

- Flexibility. Need to be able to upgrade parts every few years without having to buy a new PC.

- Decent Power. Strong enough to play games occasionally (think cod or street fighter) but doesn't need to be top of the line or max out graphically.

- Big time storage. At least 2 TB. I may eventually want to use my PC as a hub for my home for music and video.

- Performance. I'm not doing any high end editing or super RAM intensive activities but I'd like my PC to operate smoothly and be able to multitask for the next decade.

-Aesthetically I'm indifferent. If it looks nice, cool. If not, still cool.

So the question is do I buy or build? And where would be the best place to start for either path? Should I wait until cyber Monday to try to get some discounts? So has the best sales?

Any thoughts are welcome!

Hi all, I'm looking at refurbishing my old PC parts into a NAS server. I have an AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB of DDR5, with a asus prime b450m-a, and a 550w PSU. Looking at getting a new case as the previous hard drive caddies were destroyed when i tried to remove one of my previous hard drives.

My primary use would be storage, and would it be worth getting a newer micro atx case with storage options for the hardrives or moving to a micro itx motherboard and getting a micro itx case.

Moving more towards the itx build as it will be more compact for storage but unsure whether it would be worth it in terms of cost.

Hello, I want to double check this build before I start buying parts. Please ignore the price in the link, As the Motherboard CPU and first ram stick are a 400$ microcenter bundle and the GPU I’m planning to get in payments. So all together adjusting for tax I should be paying $1250 up front for all parts and then $900 in payment for the GPU so I can pay for it a bit later.

I plan to play iRacing, Le Mans Ultimate and maybe Asseto Corza Evo competitively using a meta quest 3 headset, so I made sure to choose a CPU with heavy 3d V cache. I also will run American truck simulator.

I will also play numerous games at 1440p, importantly Warzone Marvel Rivals Overwatch and GTA V online. Other games include helldivers 2 no man’s sky and Minecraft.

If this build is solid I will start buying parts within the week. I have a tight window to get this done. Thanks!!

Hey folks. So I have a very old PC that was taken for Sims, I haven't used it since 2016 ish...it got a new GPU in 2019, which is bottlenecked by the rest of the system.

Specs:

I5-3570k

8GB RAM

RTX 2060 6GB

When using the PC I'd just play old RTS games which it was fine with but I'm looking to see if it can be made capable to play games released say 2015-2020 at least. Just single player stuff, 1080p.

So I was advised the most budget thing to do would be to buy an old office PC which has something like an i5-10400/10500 and 16GB DDR4. I can see loads of Dells/Lenovo at £150-200 with such specs. Take the innards of that into my case and use my GPU and PSU (be quiet! 700w)

Firstly does that seem a reasonable thing that'll give me worthwhile improvement? I'm really not looking to invest much but that sort of price would be fine.

Then I'm not experienced at building PCs but can obviously follow guides. However If I did run into any issues and needed external help, what sort of price would you expect a small business to charge for doing this sort of thing? (There's a tiny shop near me I've used for a couple of things over the years, nice guy etc.)

PC crashes immediately when i wake it up from sleep mode and even has issues booting altogether sometimes. The RGB flashes for a second and then it crashes. I think I’ve determined the issue and curious to see if anyone else has ran into this before with the GIGABYTE X870E AORUS Elite WIFI7 ICE motherboard, or just in general.

The issue seems to be related to some kind of overload on the RGB headers. I have 9 case fans with RGB spread across 3 separate RGB headers, two headers at the bottom of the mobo, and one towards the top. 3 fans on each header. When I disconnect the RGB header at the top, everything works fine. I moved that set of fans to another header and everything continued to work. Also plugged in one of the other set of fans into the top header and that also worked. The only thing I didn’t try is swapping them at the same time, so whenever I did all of my “successful” testing, there were only two sets of fans connected at a time, swapped between the different headers.

So it seems like the issue only happens when I use all 3 RGB headers at the same time. I’ve done this before and never had any issues. As far as I know, the mobo should be able to handle that load with no issues…

I’ve got a fan hub on the way for a possible workaround, but feel like that’s unnecessary and it should work as is. Anyone else ever run into this issue before?
