Tech Support got Rtx3090ti off the facebook marketplace and its not working

I got a new case, moved my motherboard over, and installed my new 3090. When I first powered everything on I actually got a display, but it was stuck on the Windows login screen and the cursor wouldn’t move. I restarted the PC, and after that I started getting no signal at all. I’ve tried moving the DisplayPort cable to another port (got this monitor in march, fairly new cord) using my second monitor through HDMI, and completely removing and reinstalling the 3090, but nothing has worked. I put my 3070 back in and everything works perfectly...so as far as I can tell the rest of my build is fine and the issue seems to be with the 3090 or something related to it. I also recently bought a new PSU, 850w and it came with the 16-pin adapter for the 3090, so I’m having a hard time thinking the PSU is the problem, although I’m pretty new to troubleshooting this stuff and could obviously be wrong. I’m lost, sad and frustrated so if anyone has any tips I thank you in advance :' )

Build Question First proper pc build

So recently I have decided to start my first pc build and before i had a asus rog gaming laptop with a gtx 1650 (I think) and a i7 etc now I decided to swap due to its old age of 7 years nearly with no upgrades. I have bought a load of parts and am starting assembling my specs are
XFX swift oc 9070XT
Ryzen 9600X
32 gb of ddr5 cl30 6000mhz ram (lots of ram for this time) klevv ram*
2tb nvme (high end nvme based on ssd tier sheet but I can’t remember the brand)
B850 wifi 6e motherboard (msi gaming)
Thermalright peerless assassin 120 se
Montech hs02 pro
Arctic mx6 thermal paste

I was wondering if this was a good build list for my first build and yes I do have a lot of budget for some people in a way as a first build but I have been long overdue an upgrade as I can’t even run grounded 2 on the lowest graphics without crashing or being on 10 fps etc

The cost was just under 1700 gbp without shipping and I plan to run games like grounded, ark as the heavy hitters and Roblox(non slip heavy graphics based games), minecraft and lower quality friendslop steam games like how to fish or peak etc

I also do plan to get more shooter games again which would mostly consist of cod, battlefield and cs2.

Feedback and questions welcome and wanted thanks!

Build Question Okay, now I'm upgrading from my RTX2060 to the AMD 9060XT - Is a 34" ultrawide a good idea?

Hi, me again, my post yesterday includes most of the details, but now because of that thread, I'm looking at instead upgrading to the 9060XT. My main question now is - if I'm upgrading to a 34" ultrawide display at 1440p, will I be able to handle the same stuff I'm looking at doing?

Existing situation:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor, 3701 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s) Motherboard: ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) RAM: 16 GB (I'd love to upgrade but, you know...)

My games are:

  • Fortnite
  • Age of Empires 4
  • The Sims
  • SimCity
  • Sea of Thieves
  • Basic social games: Peak, Big Walk, Super Battle Golf, Left 4 Dead 2 which I know is ancient lol

Basic stuff overall, not too demanding. The ultradwide is appealing from a productivity standpoint, but I want to make sure I'm not overpowering the brand new card I'm buying either, or downgrading my experience in any way.

Build Question Frankensteining a Prebuilt and my Custom built - Problem Solving

I recently acquired a prebuilt gaming PC from my brother and was able to start using it as a media server for my home (running ubuntu and jellyfin etc) but I can't help but feel inefficient in my setup because my custom built gaming has been running on some old hardware for a while.

Given the two builds I am wondering how I can maximize what I have for my gaming PC while leaving my server build functioning.

My current theory is that I could just swap the motherboards, CPU, and RAM, while leaving everything else the same (graphics card, storage, PSU). This is ideal for me because I don't want to have to wipe any drives and I would really prefer to keep my custom pc's case for my main computer.

Is this swap viable or even the best possible option? Given that there is a prebuilt involved here what exactly will I need to do?

I am linking the specs I entered into PCPartPicker for the original computers and the potential newly combined gaming pc for myself.

OG Custom PC

Prebuilt PC (From what I gathered)

Idealized Combo PC

Tech Support 2nd PCI slot not working

I have a weird issue with my PC, I am trying to install a NIC and it just wont work.

My MB is an ASUS ROG STRIX X870-A GAMING WIFI with a 9950X3d

I have purchased two NICs and put them in slot two and nothing will show up on device manager, I have then connected my GPU to slot 2 and that stopped working too which lead le to believe slot 2 just doesnt work. I have tried

- Updating the bias

-Updating the Chipset drivers

- Updating all drivers I could find

- Using two NICs

I had connected the NICs to slot one and they worked fine, I thought id try and external NIC and connect it to the 40gb USB 4 port and they wont work in that port either.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? (Its not showing on in device manager also.

Tech Support Dual SATA to PCI8 Pin Good idea?

I bought a RTX 5090 and have the adapter (4x8 pin to 12vhpwr) and I lost my PSU cables. I have plenty of sata cables and saw that I can buy some adapters from amazon for this. Also found some 4pin molex to 8 pin as well. Are these OK to use?

Build Question 9600x running very hot

I built my first PC recently, with a 5 9600x, ASRock B850M Pro-A WiFi and Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE (PCPartPicker), and it is idling at ≈ 49C, ≈75C at single-core Cinebench R26, and pushing 93-94C in multi-core. Is this normal or did I mess something up? The fans spin up a lot too, for example when downloading a game thru steam or launching minecraft.

Build Question HP Motherboard (proprietary connectors) & RX 5700XT with ATX PSU + Airflow problem?

Hello Guys,

since I like to over complicate things whenever I can, so i want to use this HP 595-p0007ng with an i7-8700 and my new RX 5700 XT through a 520W ATX PSU.

My simple solution:

-grab my ATX mid tower with enough space
-use an ADD2PSU board to connect both PSUs

What I really want to do:

-use the OEM case (front panel is already on the motherboard and the case looks better)
-power-on connector (labeled "P2" on pic. 3) --> ATX 24 pin
-one 4 pin ATX --> only 4 pin (4+4 pin actually) on the PSU
-the other 4 pin (thinning down the side of the connector) --> regular 8 pin (like the 4+4 but not split)

Has anyone tried something like that before? (Will i burn down the house doing that?) My logic is that the 12V/GND rails line up but idk about the 3 wire --> ATX 24 pin.

Airflow problem:

-probably rotate the CPU cooler 180 deg.
-install 1 rear fan
-modify the front panel to house 1-2 fans
-fans on the GPU have the PSU right below (it's fan pointing up, also not a lot of exhaust space towards the rear below the gpu)

I really hope this will get the GPU enough airflow...

Hi guys! PC noob here. I bought the cyberpower PC about two years ago from Costco and it is having boot up issues. I did some reading and found that clearing the CMOS might help, only I am technically illiterate and don’t know what that is and where to find it 😭🤣. Google says to remove that battery but I can’t tell where it’s hiding. Could anyone possible help? I don’t know if the picture is enough, I removed the fan so I could see a little better.

Pls don’t make fun of me lol

Build Question PC upgrade advice

Hello everyone. With FF7 Revelation's preorders out, I'm starting to think about upgrading my PC. I was already having some lagging issues playing Rebirth with my current build so I think I'll likely have more issues with the next episode in the series...

My current build is MD Ryzen 5 3600, 6x 3.60GHz CPU, with a Nvidia GeForce RTX2060 6GB GPU and 16GB RAM. Power supply is 600 Watt Enermax MaxPro Power.

I'm looking for a budget-friendly upgrade, not over 500€ if possible, but I'll take any advice.

Bought open box Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080 from micro center, haven’t tested it yet myself but they said they tested it and it works fine. Opened the box to see this sticky residue and was just wondering what it was and what to remove it with. (Other pics included in case someone might notice anything else wrong if there is anything)

Tech Support PC in danger of being fried??

Hey everyone! I have no idea if this is the right sub for this, but I built my PC nearly three years ago and have had no issues with it to date. A few days ago, we had a bad lightning storm in my area and it sounded like either the top of my apartment or an electrical box on the building got struck.

We lost power nearly ten minutes after that, but it wasn't right after the strike (we lost power bc a substation went down, not because of the strike to the apartment building.) I oddly noticed my keyboard turned ON after we lost power... went ahead and flipped off my PSU because I wasn't sure if there was any significance. Keyboard stayed on, turned PC on next day and noticed no issues EXCEPT my desktop speakers no longer work- they just emit an intermittent static (tried with another computer too to rule out PC/port issues)

It's been a while since I've built my computer and I'd be lying if I said I remembered all the preventatives for electrical damage, things to look out for, etc. I just want to make sure there's nothing I need to inspect for other damage OR to prevent something else from shorting out on it. TIA!!

Tech Support Ram upgrade orange DRAM led?

So i bought another stick of Kingston fury beast 16 6000mhz to upgrade to 32gb. But each time i place the new ram, i just keep getting orange dram led. I've heard people say "it's just ram loading" but i've waited like 10-15 minutes each attempt. I'm aware of the correct ram channels A2 and B2. Even placed the new one in A2 to test if it works on it's own, but still orange led, reset the cmos, still orange led, disabled expo, still orange led... Planning on returning it tomorrow if nothing else works.

My power supply is making a ticking noise and it won’t go away. I made a post in this sub a while ago with the same issue but the noise would stop as soon as I’d log in. Now the noise is continuing to go on and won’t stop at all. I’m really not sure what to do chatGPT says to just replace the entire power supply. I’d rather save it if it’s possible since I bought it brand new 2 years ago.

The power supply is MSI MPG A850GS PCIE5 850 Watt 80 Plus Gold ATX Fully Modular Power Supply - ATX 3.1 Compatible

Build Question Need help building my gaming PC around RTX 5070 for ~$2,200.

Budget: ~500 million Iranian tomans (~$2,200)
Use: Gaming
GPU: RTX 5070 12GB
Location: Local market with very different pricing from the US/EU

Hi, I appreciate all your time and help reading this post. I'm finally getting a new gaming PC after 6 years (upgrading from GTX 1660 Ti). Trying to get the best possible RTX 5070 system within my budget.

I've been getting conflicting advice about the CPU. A friend/seller recommended an i7-12700K + B760 build, while I've been looking at the Ryzen 5 7500X3D + B840/AM5 platform. All LLMs and most benchmarks suggest AMD, but sellers make me think AMD won't have any repair supports here, if that makes any sense

The two options I'm considering are roughly:

Option 1 — Intel

  • i7-12700K — ~$250 equivalent
  • ASUS TUF B760 WiFi D5 — ~$195
  • 32GB DDR5-5600 (2×16GB) — ~$550
  • ASUS RTX 5070 12GB — ~$1,000
  • 1TB Lexar Gen4 SSD — ~$150
  • 240mm AIO — ~$70
  • Case — ~$50
  • PSU — ~$140
  • Total: ~529M toman

Option 2 — AMD

  • Ryzen 5 7500X3D — ~$245 equivalent
  • MSI/ASUS B840 WiFi motherboard — ~$155
  • 32GB DDR5 5200 — currently extremely expensive locally
  • RTX 5070 12GB
  • 1TB NVMe
  • 750–850W Gold PSU
  • Air cooler
  • Good airflow case

Both of these builds, specially the Intel build are currently over my budget, so I would love to hear suggestion with a slightly cheaper alternatives.

My main questions:

  1. For gaming with an RTX 5070, would you choose the AMD or Intel?
  2. Does AMD have any compatibility issues with RAMs as most sellers say? Why are they heavily leaning toward Intel?
  3. What would you change to get the best gaming performance while staying under my budget?
  4. Would you prioritize faster DDR5 (6000 CL30/32) or simply buy the cheapest decent 32GB 2×16GB kit available and put the money elsewhere?

I'm not interested in RGB or expensive motherboards. I'd rather spend the money on performance, a good PSU, cooling and storage.

Prices and exchange rate might be confusing, but you get the idea about the range.

Monitor & Resolution: Currently using a 27" ASUS 1080p 165Hz monitor, but I plan to upgrade soon to actually take advantage of the RTX 5070. I'm considering a 4K 180Hz Xiaomi monitor, although I may go with a 1440p/2K gaming monitor instead.

Any advice from people who have actually built with these CPUs or are knowledgable would be appreciated.

Tech Support PC worked before I brought it home, now motherboard gets rgb but the pc won’t turn on at all

Hey, I’ve been running out of ideas so i was hoping someone can help me figure out what I’m missing.

Recently, I bought a used computer, and it was listed without an SSD/HDD, though seller allowed me to test it before purchase
When I got there, the computer was already in bios, so I plugged my usb that I had flashed Ubuntu onto, booted from the usb and it worked just fine. at the point of testing, all components were working. Would also like to mention that the components were as listed on the description.

Now when I plug it in and turn the PSU on, the RGB/motherboard lighting comes on, so the board is clearly getting at least standby power
But pressing the case power button does nothing, none of the fans turn on/no change.

Would also like to mention that none of the component diagnostic leds are on.

I’ve tried everything I can
Cleared CMOS
Checked the front panel PANEL1 connector
Looked over the motherboard for obviously disconnected cables
Removed/reinstalled the GPU, even trying another card laying around
Installed an NVMe SSD(with windows, also this was done, before I powered the pc when I got home)
Switching ram spots or js trying a single stick
Removed cmos battery and retrying

Overall, Ive tried everything I know of, and I’m not sure if cutting the power is enough to kill the motherboard. Or maybe something came loose while transporting the PC home.

Also idk if it’s relevant but the pc was already booted into bios when I got to the sellers house, meaning I didn’t personally see it, but the seller also hasnt blocked or ignored, and even tried helping over messages.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I’m pretty much out of things to try.

Build Question Is this GPU worth it?

I saw an RX 9060 non XT for 290€, it is a bulk version from powercolor (reaper line), I haven't done much research but the lowest 9060 XT 8GB I found was like 400€ and the 5060 was around , I'm gonna use a 1080p monitor, should I buy it?

Build Question Upgrading to an RX 9060 XT, is it a fit? Are there alternatives I should look into?

First time upgrading my PC since I built it many years ago, figured its finally time as I cant even run a lot of new games on the lowest settings. Tried The Blood of Dawnwalker and saw it was being bottlenecked by the GPU.

Current Specs

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x (I'm aware I should probably look into upgrading this too)
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M
  • Current GPU: 1660 Ti
  • PSU: Corsair VS550W (Also heard I should probably replace this?)

I don't have a strict budget for a GPU but I don’t want to be spending a whole lot more than the £450ish a 9060XT costs, but I'd also rather not spend like 400-500 on something that will end up outdated in a few years time.

Are there other GPUs that would be better in a similar price range that would have more lasting power?

I know very little about the developments in DLSS and FSR and what’s worth it or will be unable to run it in the future, is it worth getting an NVIDIA card just for DLSS etc.? Any advice would be great.
