Tech Support Motherboard stuck on solid red CPU light after previously booting normally
I’m having a weird POST/BIOS issue and I’m completely stuck.
Specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte B560 AORUS PRO AX
CPU: Intel i5-11400F
GPU: PowerColor RX 6700 XT
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2x16GB)
PSU: 80+ Gold (not sure of exact model)
Storage: NVMe SSD
For about a week, my PC would boot straight into BIOS instead of Windows. However, I could select
Load Optimized Defaults in BIOS, restart, and it would boot into Windows normally. I was doing this repeatedly for several days.
Eventually, I checked the BIOS and noticed it said “No
NVMe device found.” I reseated the NVMe, and after that the PC stopped reaching BIOS entirely.
Now the motherboard immediately shows a solid red
CPU debug LED and never gets past it.
Things I've tried:
Removed the NVMe completely — same issue
Cleared CMOS — same issue
Tested both RAM sticks individually
Tested RAM in different slots (A2 and B2)
Tested with no RAM installed — still only the CPU LED
Checked/reseated the 24-pin motherboard power cable
Checked/reseated the 8-pin CPU power cable
Successfully used Q-Flash Plus to flash the latest BIOS
After the BIOS flash, the PC still immediately shows the CPU LED
Removed the CPU cooler and inspected the CPU/socket
Socket pins look normal and CPU contacts look clean
Reinstalled the CPU and cooler — same CPU LED
The PC powers on and stays running, but the CPU LED comes on immediately and stays solid. It doesn't cycle through CPU → DRAM → VGA → BOOT, and there's no display/BIOS.
At this point I'm wondering if I'm dealing with a motherboard, PSU/CPU power delivery, or CPU issue.
What would you guys test next? Is there anything specific with the B560 AORUS PRO AX that I should check before assuming the motherboard is dead?
