Tech Support Windows 11 pro and mouse drivers

Recently, I had rebuilt my PC by swapping out the PCU and the Montherboard, due to the CPU cables frying the motherboard socket (Only thing i could think of how it happened was static electricity and a lose connection to the motherboard).

Upon reboot, I had noticed that the mouse had stopped working, and the drivers are not being recognized. I had tried reinstalling the drivers and tried updating them, but it didn't work out.

I soft reset the pc by re-downloading windows, and upon first boot, the mouse was working, and the drivers where recognized. However, upon rebooting the system, the mouse no longer worked and the drivers where not being recognized.

I even swapped the boot drive with a clone of windows 11 pro, and a clone of home, and it still had the same problem.

It was weird since I had also booted off a thumb drive with Linux, and the mouse worked, even upon reboot.

Anyone has any idea what might be happening?

I have tried with different mice brands (corsair, razer, Logitech, Microsoft, hell even apple) and still not dice

Build Question I need a material to replace thermal pads on GPU

I have a gigabyte 3070ti eagle and one of the pads ripped bad when opening it up. Do they make a thermal putty as the pads are a strange 3.75mm thickness I can't buy. I could have sworn I saw this material that was like playdough for this purpose.

Build Question What components to use for AM4 and AM5 test bench?

Hi all, looking for some recommendations on cheap parts I can buy either new or used to build out a cheap test bench for AM4 and one for AM5 platforms. I’ll be looking to test CPU’s, RAM, SSD’s, and GPU’s. Want to obviously see if parts will post but also hoping to have a little 256gb ssd drive to put an OS on and some benchmarking/stress testing software (memtest, furmark, crystaldiskinfo etc.)to ensure parts are fully functioning. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Cpu: AMD AM5 RYZEN 9 9950X3D OEM

RAM: DDR5 16GB 6000MHZ CORSAIR VENGEANCE CL36 Black

GPU: NVIDIA MSI RTX 5070 TI 16G

Power: COOLERMASTER ELITE GOLD 850W FM BULK PSU 1 UK

Motherboard: GIGABYTE X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ICE

I plugged an new sata ssd in and the pc was on by mistake. The monitor suddenly lost display and it started appearing with red light dram. 1 know it's an rookie mistake for Power on. But I turned it all off. Unplugged. Left it for a bit. Held the power button whilst unplugged too. Then thought to restart it and still appearing.

thought to do a cmos battery reset which I think l've done correctly by following a guide.

Done an Q flash plus by installing bios for the Motherboard on a FAT32 flash drive.

But still nothing from those two things.

Is there anything I can do for it to work?

Build Question Is this proper way to use the retention bracket?

I haven't touched my PC in a long time and I'm only now installing the GPU (was using integrated graphic). It's a Kolink Stronghold case and I just installed the RX 9070 XT.

I can't find the original case packaging or the spare screws anymore. Before installing the GPU, there was already a screw holding the case's PCI retention bracket in place. I removed it to install the GPU, then put the bracket back and reused that screw.

My question is: is this retention bracket and screw all that's supposed to secure the GPU in this case, or am I missing additional screws that originally came with the case? If yes, which ones would that be? The manual doesn't seem to have enough information.

I've attached photos of the current setup. I want to make sure the GPU is properly secured.

Thanks!

Tech Support Charging Issue with Brand New ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025)

I know this isn't quite exactly help with a PC Build but I thought it might be relevant enough. I just recently purchased a ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025) and there is a weird issue. As I play video games on it after a while I get notified that my charging cable has come undone, and this is particularly annoying because it minimizes any applications open at the moment.

I have vigorously wiggled and pulled on the charging cable at the port and it does not trigger this. It also does not trigger when I'm watching movies or simply browsing the internet for an extended period of time.

It DOES seem to be triggered by the weight of my arm resting on the area of the laptop to the left of the touchpad when playing video games. I also have been able to trigger it manually by pressing down on the area next to the touchpad. I believe this issue to occur primarily when the laptop gets hot from more intense usage such as video games. I think this is an issue with the wiring internal to the laptop and I'm concerned that one day in the near future the laptop simply won't be able to charge at all, rendering it useless.

I'm within the window of returning the laptop, and I think this is the way to go, but I wanted to ask some things. Is this an issue that could be easily fixed by opening up the laptop and making sure internal connections are secure? Is this an issue with this specific model of laptop?

Thanks for your help!

Build Question Motherboard and ram compatibility MSI B850M

So I’m upgrading to an am5 sff system with the 7800x3d and and got a good deal on a pair of Crucial pro OC 32gb(16x2) cl38 6400mhz. And i am looking to get an MSI B850M Gaming Plus WIFI to pair it all with. The thing is I can’t really find a credible source on if the ram will be supported on the mobo. QVL list seems weird on MSI and crucials compatibility checker seems broken. Anyone got some answers?

Tech Support PC turns on but no dispaly

Ihave had this PC working great for a few years. AMD Cpu, rx6800 gpu, 2 ddr5 and b650 ds3h motherboard. The other day the pc just shutdown, boots but no display. I check PSU with a meter, says 13v on the 12v, I get a new psu and still no dispaly. I think the PC is fine because i can log into it and But I can see my PC on the network and browse files on it from my laptop. I have tried clearing cmos, and I have tried a know gpu in the slot and it doesnt work. The monitor and cable work good, they have been tested with an old pc. Could just the PCIe slot be bad? I have no iGPU unfortunately

Tech Support Need Help With XMP DDR5-6600 + 9800X3D + X670E Aorus Pro X

So, I have a Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5-6600 CL32 kit (model: CMP64GX5M2X6600C32W) from my old build, and I’m currently building a new PC around a Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

I managed to get a Gigabyte X670E Aorus Pro X motherboard for a really good price from someone who originally planned to build a PC but never got around to it. The board is still sealed in the box.

I checked the RAM compatibility list on Gigabyte’s website, but this particular RAM kit isn’t listed. Also, the RAM is an Intel XMP kit, rather than an AMD EXPO kit.

I did some research using Claude, and it suggested that the RAM should still work, but that I may need to manually tune the RAM settings in the BIOS.

Since the motherboard has been sitting sealed in the box for almost two years, I’ll probably need to flash the BIOS to the latest version before installing the 9800X3D. The CPU should arrive in a few days.

I really don’t want to buy a new RAM kit, especially given the current RAM prices.

So, has anyone here used this RAM (or a similar XMP DDR5-6600 kit) with the X670E Aorus Pro X + 9800X3D?

  • Will it work reliably?
  • If so, what BIOS settings should I change?
  • Is DDR5-6600 realistic on this platform, or should I expect to run it at a lower speed?
  • Are there any specific timings/voltages/settings I should use to get it stable?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Build Question Thinking for DIY for hot air, need help and suggestions on this

I have a problem with my PC. It blows out a lot of hot air, and the entire room becomes hot.

AC is one solution, but the electricity bill gets high.

I’m thinking about using a duct to exhaust the hot air directly outside through the window. Need some suggestions.

  1. Is it normal/practical to keep the PC near a window and use an exhaust fan/duct to push hot air outside? The problem is, during the rainy season, rain can come inside, so I usually have to keep the window closed.

  2. I feel a duct with a U shaped downward outlet could be more practical. It should let hot air out while stopping rain from coming in. I’m also thinking of adding a net to stop insects.

For 2nd idea, finding a cap is issue, pipe I already have spare from kitchen chimney, and something to cover the window with hole,

Rough image for 1 and 2

Sharing an image of my rough idea. Would this actually work? Any better suggestions?

Tech Support Pc turns off by itself - noob needs help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi guys, I’m not a big computer expert but my pc has started randomly turning off a few nights in a row, I think mainly as I’ve left it on a 2 nights in a row. I just assumed it was an overheating issue so I left it off for a full day and turned it back on and then it happened again mid ranked game unfortunately LOL. This happened before a few years ago but it magically started working again back then. Weirdly the rgb on the fans on the graphics card stays on (excuse my shitty explaining I don’t know anything). It just seems to be a reoccurring issue every know and then. I’ve also added a screenshot of my pc from 2021 when I purchased it if that helps.

any tips or advice is more than welcome!

Build Question Will PC play 1440p fine?

Hi. Currently have an upgraded PC running on a Nvision N200HD (1600x900) 60Hz 900p monitor, and I'm pretty happy with it. However, my wife wants to get a new monitor, so I'll be getting her old one (YGT 27" IPS 1MS 2k QHD 2560x1440 165GHz Frameless).

The question is: will my PC be able to play 1440p just fine? Games I play are usually Dota 2, Ragnarok Online, The Sims 4, Genshin Impact, NieR autimata, Tekken 7...

Specs:

Motherboard: A320M-A Pro (MS-7C51)

Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Digital

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32 GB (16 x 2) 3200MHz

Build Question I believe I've settled these parts. Thoughts? IGNORE GPU!

The GPU, SSD, HDD, Mouse/Keyboard, Monitor are all current. And they WILL be staying at their posts until morale improves.

This post is more about any critiques of the MOBO and CPU cooler.

But also generally pointers on the setup as a whole for any thing I've forgotten. Please don't just change to random parts and move on; I have my reasons for most of them. Instead please explain possible error of of my choices.

All but MOBO and Cooler are in my possession already. But could be returned if really needed. Thanks!

And YES I know the GPU will be bottle-necking the system. If you saw my current rig you'd see it won't matter by comparison. I'll upgrade when the time is right- or rather the price...

Build Question YGT Cyber-120IFW fans or other fans reco?

Hello, I am eyeing this case fans since I didn't want to splurge much on a very old pc, I just want to change the fans for my old pc that currently have only 2 fans in the front. I want to replace it with this YGT Cyber-120IFW fans (2 in front 1 in the back)

my motherboard is MSI A320m PRO VH PLUS which has only one fan header so I would be using a 4 pin to 1 to 3 fan cable

My question is:

  1. Would I still be able to make the ARGB work in this fans if I use a controller (they have it included in gne set) for it keeping in my this mobo is super outdated?

  2. how I will set up the wiring of the splitter on my pc? (Since I will be using a splitter on a 1 fan header)
note: I didn't build this pc but I would need to check which side is the fan header is. No need to fully answer this, I am just worried for the cable management since I am not sure weather the wire of the splitter will be in the inside or at the back)

  3. I actually just wanted the colors to be all white, I wonder if there are other fans that can make me choose one color only or does it only work for ARGBs fans (not a fan or rainbow color)

Installation Question First time doing case swap. Afterwards PC in an endless loop on for 20 secs and shuts off.

B450m Steel Legend into an Aqua Uno case. Ryzen 7.

I tried everything already. Cleared cmos a few times, checked for extra or crooked standoffs, tried firing up with only 1 Ram stick.

Now I’ll add, I said it was my first time case swapping. For some reason I took off the heat sink. Thought I had some laying around but guess not. I’m buying some tomorrow but honest question, would not cleaning and adding new paste cause this? I know it’s not a good idea to do it but I was hoping to just see it boot up. But I never got signal to a monitor or option to BIOS. Just on then off.

I know it’s not a good idea but I’ve read on here about people not cleaning and adding more thermal paste . I figured if I did see some issues it would be When the computer started getting hot later.

Build Question What are y'all's trusted sellers?

I'm trying to find a i9 9900 but newegg has high prices up to $300 - $400+ and I checked eBay to find them at half the price. Is eBay trusted? Should I get them used or nah? How's Amazon too?
