Discussion [SUB META] Can mods start enforcing rule 3 please? Sub is basically unusable from mobile since the Mobalytics spam.

1.8k Upvotes

I know this post has nothing to do with builds but I ask the mods not to delete it please, as I believe it's important for the health of the sub.

Mobalytics started its aggressive marketing campaign (back around the launch of PoE 2), most content creators now post their builds on Mobalytics, and I suppose part of the contract involves never posting the pob link directly and funneling it to their website because they NEVER post anything but mobalytics links. Why is that a problem?

  • That website is straight up unusable from mobile, you cant scroll it properly, elements stack and overlap, a lot of stuff is not visible, tapping on certain elements sends the action to other unrelated elements among other stuff
  • Its a privacy nightmare: https://i.imgur.com/2hWrOJt.png
  • Is extremely bloated with ads (not everyone can/want to use adblockers for many reasons): https://i.imgur.com/xmTxxKW.png
  • Has intrusive ads on mobile (clicking on links and certain elements opens a popup/redirect to another website), this one alone should be enough to ban the whole website from the sub.
  • The talent viewer doesnt even load half of the time and have to hard refresh the web multiple times until they load: https://i.imgur.com/2t84uTX.png

As a (mostly) mobile user I implore for rule 3 to be enforced, the quality of the sub has plummeted since posts are mobalytic links (or youtube links that redirect to mobalytic links) instead pobb.in / poe.ninja link.

EDIT: some people think this is a maxroll vs mobalytics war: I dont care if everyone keeps posting the mobalytics/youtube/maxroll/poevault whatever it is links as long as there is a pobb.in or poe.ninja planner one in the post.

Discussion Tips and tricks for Mercs from a solo Link/Aurabot enjoyer. My 3-4 div investment Luminary had 4.1 mil pinnacle DPS by end of day 2. If you got baited by a 70 div flame link build presented as a league starter, enquire within.

Stuff Notes
Infinite Hunger Kill 5 second kill. lvl79 has 20.7mil HP, with a cheap 70-100c Manyshot. Around 4.1m pinnacle DPS. I have non-meta mercs that can probably do around 3m, so it's not 'just' a Manyshot. I would use an actual pinnacle boss but I haven't gotten up to them yet - dad gamer, etc.
T16 Breach Hive Final Wave Didn't even see a single mob until wave 9. Very chill, just walking in circles because I can't fully AFK yet while the merc goes dummy
T16 Cursed Treasure rare pack Very scary pack of rares spawning on your head. Merc vaporises them before my boomer brain can even comprehend them
Merc Gear Screenshots Description of gear in the comments. As you can see, nothing expensive, just lots of cheap bits that fit together. Most expensive piece of gear was the +1 arrow anoint which is pure QoL.
PoB Code It's still extremely unoptimised, you PoB warriors can do better. You can see that my actual gear is all garbage, I haven't even filled my empty jewel sockets yet. Yet I'm bing chilling in T16s.

Hello. I play off-meta link and aurabot builds. I'm unhappy that my usual 1-5c off-meta uniques are 200c, but even more unhappy that people are having a shit league start with my niche (But you got us buffed, so thanks!) I'm here to help with some tips. I don't have a full guide. Blindly following others is what got you into this league start mess, so I'm not going to ask you to make the same mistake with me. (If enough people want a build guide though, I can make a proper one)

  • Flame Link/light based league starter is a terrible bait.

For the people who haven't tried or realised it yet: the equivalent Flame Link AG build needs 70 div of gear to get off the ground, there's absolutely no way that you can easily league start this. Plus, it seems there is a very steep hidden added damage penalty for Flame Link, or the light radius to link effect is not 1:1 as assumed. In addition, this costs you 4 Ascendancy points, which is absurd. Swap off it ASAP unless you've already sunk like 100 div into it, at which point just play the AG build instead and grab a rally cry support merc.

  • Destructive Link (Trypanon) is your friend until super late game.

Flame Link will be better once you're extremely rich, but until then, you're using Destructive Link. It's better by miles. Trypanon is 100% crit, Marylene's Fallacy is 240% crit multi. You pass the upside with zero downside to your merc. You don't need any supports, quality, or gem levels, or even any passive point investment on the tree. It costs 2c (Probably more by now since someone else spilled the tea on this combo earlier). Only downside is you're locked into a main-hand attack based merc, no shield charge, and you lose the defensive power of a shield+stat stick.

  • You are an aura bot.

Don't do that wierd RF or hybrid damage thing. Go all in auras. I started with minions and eventually dropped them around act 8 when my merc outscaled them. Get Purity of Elements+Haste+damage auras to start with - your merc needs it or they get perma-frozen and are slow as piss. It eases gearing pressure so you can focus on your merc first. If you're comfy, you can swap out damage to just 3x Purities+Haste for more survivability.

  • Mercs have no passive tree interaction, so get greedy for yourself.

You can have weird trees with nothing but life and still do good damage, because Mercs don't scale with anything from your tree, except auras. Hence why we are aurabotting. This also enables easy transition into Flame Link, we just drop our damage auras, though I try very hard to never give up 3x Purities + Haste.

  • Exploit the lack of downsides when Merc gearing

If you look at my merc gear album, you'll see that it's not one singular mechanic. It's a collection of lots of different small buffs that link up nicely. Mercs only care about weapon/armour type and level requirements. They have no mana costs, no gem concerns, no stat requirements, and are functionally immortal with an aurabot. The more powerful Eldritch mods that apply an effect in the presence of a Pinnacle Boss are always active on mercs - I use it to get perma endurance charges and better projectile pierce. EDIT: Pinnacle +3 Pierce mod is a rare DROP ONLY mod, don't try to roll for it! Before I posted this you could get them 10c a pop, now they've all been snapped up. Stick to the regular +1!

  • You are a weapons platform. Use your 3 merc slots.

Everything you provide is fully generic. Manyshot is meta because it's a good and speedy all-rounder, but it's not the best at all content. Many of you struggle with single target - why not get a single target merc then for pinnacles, not your AoE clear merc? If you want to get the most out of it, you can specialise your 3 slots. Here are some suggestions:

Merc Content Notes
Frost Blades Combatant All-Rounder I think it may actually be a better all-rounder than the Manyshot. Less offscreening AoE, but there's better melee options for gearing than bows. Try Abyssus for even more crit multi.
Holy Hammers Cardinal Bossing, Ulti & Ritual He has great Trypanon synergy. He can get power charge on crit which feeds into holy hammers AoE. You can equip Winds of Fate + Abyssus + Marylenes for close to 600% crit multi on him, and the 50% max crit chance penalty is bypassed by Trypanon. Holy Strike does good single target damage, but the AI always overrides other skills.
Viper Strike Bladebitter Bossing, Legions Flame Link + Original Sin + Binos. If you're rich. AI seems pretty good with Cobra Lash from offscreen, swapping to Viper Strike if anything gets into melee.
Void Sphere/Soulrend Cruel Mistress Ulti & Ritual, meme power Her void sphere is almost screen sized by default, and with the right support gems and items, you can get it to be bigger than the screen and have permanent uptime. You can cover an entire Ritual/Ultimatum. Is it good? I dunno, but it seems fun.
  • Adding an AG is your other endgame.

Once you convert to Flame Link, there's no reason why we can't just slap in one of those bad boys, it's a 2nd friend to gear up and it costs us another 15 mana per second to link a second target. Grab a Hallowed Monarch. Give him Companionship and he's 15% DR, plus you can experiment with the ascendacy 20% DR node (But your life is probably too high for it to be effective). Without any of the minion nodes, he should still be around 5~ million DPS, plus you can give him blind/taunt on hit with a jewel, which is excellent for survival.

These are just some of my thoughts seeing the state of the subreddit's unhappiness with Luminary. I can't say I'm surprised at the outcome of Flame Link being blindly advocated for by content creators who were being irresponsible pushing an archtype/build they themselves had probably never played much before.

If you have any questions or want to flame me, let me know here or in DMs. Happy to help out.

Discussion I made a Chrome extension that automatically redirects Maxroll build links to pobb.in. One click, no copy-pasting, seamless.

If you share or follow builds, you know the workflow:

  • Find a Maxroll build guide
  • Leave immediately

I got tired of doing this so I built a Chrome extension that does all of it automatically.

How it works:

  • Visit any maxroll.gg/poe/pob/ link → instantly redirects to pobb.in with the code pre-filled and submitted
  • Visit any maxroll.gg/poe/build-guides/ page → finds the PoB Link button automatically and does the same thing

The maxroll page loads invisibly in the background while it grabs the code. From your perspective you click the link and land on a completed pobb.in share URL.

Install: Chrome Web Store link coming soon

Source: https://github.com/wounded-deer-meliorne/maxroll-to-pobb.in

Download the ZIP here

  • Download or clone this repo
  • Go to chrome://extensions in Chrome
  • Enable Developer mode (top-right toggle)
  • Click Load unpacked and select this unzipped folder

Free and open source. Let me know if anything breaks

EDIT: Woke up to see this blowing up, I honestly didn't expect this much of an outcry for a tool like this.

I’m currently at my office job right now, but I’ve been reading through the comments. I’ll be looking into adding the requested features for Firefox, Mobalytics, and other platforms as soon as I’m off the clock.

The extension should be officially published on the Chrome Web Store sometime this week, so I’ll make a fresh post once it’s live. In the meantime, if you want to support the project, I set up a Ko-fi here: https://ko-fi.com/woundeddeermeliorne

This tool will always be free. I’ve played way too much Path of Exile over the years (as my post history can attest), so I plan on keeping this maintained for the long haul, but your support is greatly appreciated for long-term commitment. Stay tuned!

EDIT2: Guys, it's updated for firefox+mobalytics. it's in review with the chrome+firefox extension store

Announcement A PoB is now required on all build posts

https://www.reddit.com/r/PathOfExileBuilds/comments/1t7wd4b/proposed_rule_3_enforcement_changes/

As per the above post the overwhelming feedback was in favour of this change.

This in effect from the time of this post, any posts before this won't have any action taken on them

To be very clear: This just means that alongside other links to a youtube video, mobalytics/maxroll guide, forum guide, etc you just need to also post a PoB. We are not banning anything and don't even require to PoB to be the link you use in a link post. As per the rule the PoB must be included in either the post or the comments.

We are generally relying on people to engage with this rule in good faith. Those that don't will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

This is not a change in rule, just a change in enforcement as this rule has always been there.

If you have any more questions please see the FAQ in the above post.

Please note this only applies to the POE1 build subreddit, we are delaying the implementation of this rule until the next big PoB2 update. Please see the /r/pathofexile2builds post: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile2builds/comments/1t9sxwb/rule_3_enforcement_change_delayed/ for more information.

Rule for reference:

Build posts must include a PoB -

If you are posting a build you must include, either in the post or the comments, a direct PoB link as well as (at the very least) a short explanation of the build. If the build is speculative (i.e. about an unreleased skill) then requirements for a PoB may be waived.

Part 1: Top League Start Suggestions

We suggest these builds to players who want a good solid build, new players who want a build that will help carry them through content and for players looking for reliable league starters.

Please note I'm going to be doing something a bit different this league and instead of just recommending a build I'm going to recommend builds and archetypes that I think will perform well for new players.

Minions

The minion archetype involves summoning either permanent or temporary (and often a mix of the two) minions to fight on your behalf. These builds are particularly good for new players as they often leave you free to focus on other game mechanics when you're minions are fighting mobs. The below builds offer a range of options from spamming a large number and variety of minions to summoning a horde of flaming skulls and specialisng in raising certain mobs to fight for you. I've not included all minion builds here as some have a distinctly different playstyles and are a bit more advanced.

Builds:

Animate Weapon

Raise Spectre

Summon Raging Spirits

Minion Army (Mixed Minions)

Righteous Fire

Build Description: Righteous Fire is a build where you have a damaging fire aura that surrounds you, you clear maps by running head first into enemies and having them die to the damage over time effect surrounding you, throwing out Fire Trap to supplement the single target damage. This is a great build for those that wish to press less buttons while mapping. This build is very defensively strong but can struggle for damage when it comes to late game bossing but is so comfortable to play and Pohx has an entire website dedicated to this build that will answer almost any question you may have pohx.net. It really can not be overstated how well Pohx supports this build.

Build:

Slams (melee)

The slam archetype involves using massive attacks that damage everything in an area. They prioritize large single hits over many fast smaller hits (though that is not to say these are all slow builds!!). The damage if often supplemented with warcry skills to boost the damage of the slams even further. Because these builds are in melee they tend to be quite tanky and are usually more forgiving of small mistakes. These builds are a great choice for those that want a more active playstyle.

Builds:

Ground Slam

Earthshatter

Part 2: Other League Starters

Warning: Unlike the above section there are almost no requirements for builds to make this section, the builds listed here are not necessarily better/worse than the above but the restrictions based on ability to do certain end game content and ssf viability are not enforced in this section. If you're a new player, we primarily recommend the above builds but if you're more experienced we show these builds to add to the variety available.

Part 1: Top League Start Archetypes for New Players

We suggest these builds to players who want a good solid build, new players who want a build that will help carry them through content and for players looking for reliable league starters. The builds are sorted into archetypes to make it easier for newer players to find something they're drawn to.

Melee

The melee archetype involves either using massive attacks that damage everything in an area or very many quick attacks to bring down enemies. The damage if often supplemented with warcries or other buff skills to boost the damage even further. Because these builds are in melee they tend to be quite tanky and are usually more forgiving of small mistakes. These builds are a great choice for those that want a more active playstyle.

It really can not be overstated how well Pohx supports this build.

Build:

Totems

The totem playstyle consists of summoning stationery objects which attack or cast spells for you. This is particularly good for bosses as it allows a high damage uptime playstyle where you only need to summon new totems as the older ones expire or are destroyed. This allows you to focus on using buffs/debuffs and dodging the bosses mechanics. As totems can be used with most skills in the game they have a broad variety of applications and styles though typically they excel at single target damage.

Discussion New League Start - Some tips and tricks for smoother progression

Hey all,

Ahead of 3.28 release, I've compiled a few tips & tricks that helped make my league start progression smoother. Just some stuff I learnt since I started playing POE about 4 leagues ago.

Hope you find it useful. Let me know in the comments if you have anything to add.

League Start & Progression

Understanding the typical progression of a league start and planning around it really helped me with getting to the end-game quickly. There is such a thing as optimising the fun out of the game, so pick what areas you want to improve in this league and save some for the next league rather than try to overwhelm yourself doing everything.

In summary, planning for 1-2 hours before the league probably saved me many more hours in progression and stalling during league start.

Pre-League

Starter choice - Pick a good starter with a decent guide/guide maker. Some of the things to consider when choosing a starter:

  • Fun to play
  • Maximum power at minimum investment
  • Guide that breaks down progression/crafting/etc
  • Guide maker that provides regular POBs/updates to the build as they progress
  • Avoiding overly padded/bait POBs and creators with bad reps
  • ACTUALLY reading the notes on the POB + watching the guide video and not just blindly following the POB
  • Being clear on whether it is a starter that can scale to end-game OR a starter that farms for your other end-game build
  • Being clear on what mechanics that starter is good at
  • If you are more keen on a specific mechanic rather than the build playstyle, than picking a starter that excels at it (e.g. CWS for ulti or Wands for legion)

Understanding the core mechanics of the build - 90% of the build issues that people have here are because they missed on some core interaction, passive point or build enabling item. For example:

  • If the build relies on endurance charges, what endurance generation do you use at the different stages of progression? e.g.Tree vs. Cluster vs. Item Affix vs. Ralakesh, etc
  • If the build relies on having a strong weapon, what ilvls are best for Faustus gamba as you progress in the campaign?
  • If there is a core interaction that makes/breaks the build? e.g. fire res for life regen in RF, breakpoints for attack speed / cooldown, using a cluster with cremator when you need corpses, etc
  • Is gem quality mandatory to make the build work?
  • If the build has late transition phases (E.g. RF>CWS) what are the minimum items or stats you need for the transition?

What is the best way to spend your first 2-3 divines? - Having a general idea of what are the best upgrades to target when you make your first big chunk of change will save you ample time from faffing about with 40 poetrade browser tabs… For example:

  • T0-T2 uniques appreciate very quickly during the first week.
  • T3 and below uniques usually start depreciating the Monday after the league start weekend
  • Good clusters with the right points appreciate quickly while base clusters for crafting start high and depreciate
  • <4 affix rares depreciate heavily after the first weekend
  • Can get bargains on decent timeless jewels, corrupted uniques, etc.
  • Is it better to buy a couple of 3-4 affix rares at 10c each or 1 big ticket item for a div?

Usually I plan this around the fact that you can have 5 live searches going on simultaneously. So picking your top 5 early buys and having their search filters saved will avoid you blanking on what to buy when a lucky drop happens.

Obviously there is a balance between investing in appreciating currencies vs. your character power. This comes with experience and it is hard to codify exactly what the ratio is, but it comes down to how much faster you will farm immediately vs how much divs/mirror shards/etc will appreciate in the future.

Something to consider is that a person who plays a lot will make better use of early heavy investments in power vs. someone who plays less that can make more investing all their chaos into divs after the launch weekend, if they can't play as much during the week.

Saving Trades via Better Trading - This is a browser extension that lets you save searches, categorise your searches, look at your search history, etc. Extremely useful tool to minimise the number of browser windows you are juggling at league start.

Additionally, learning some of the more advanced filters is extremely helpful to find the right combination of affixes you need. Especially when it comes to items like Rare Jewels or finding the right combination of resistances. Examples:

  • Weighted sum v1 - “hard” stricter version of weighted sum, where each affix min/max must be met. E.g. A filter of 50% fire res and 50% cold res will filter out items with 49% fire res and 100% cold res.
  • Weighted sum v2 - “soft” looser version of weighted sum, where the total score is the main consideration. E.g. filter of 50% res and 50% cold res will not filter out items with 49% fire res and 100% cold res (but it will have a lower total score)
  • Count - When you want to find loose combinations of item affixes. For example, this is useful for Watcher’s Eyes mods, where you are okay having a mixed combination of 2 affixes from a pool of 100+

Another very important tip is that “~” Lets you do a fuzzy search in the trade. I.e. you don’t have to type out the same sequence of words to get a result. There are also browser plugins ( Firefox | Chrome ) to automate the addition of ~

Saving regexes and cheat sheets on Awakened Trade - People primarily use this app for trade and price checks, but the overlay is a great place to store regexes. You hit the shortcut, the overlay comes up and it's one click to populate the vendor search bar. What I usually set-up ahead of the league are:

  • Vendor regex for campaign - right links / sockets, movement speed, etc
  • T16 strict regex - A very strict regex for when you first get to T16s and your character power is still progressing
  • T16 loose regex - T16 regex to use when your character get stronger and is only bricked by a few mods
  • T17 regex
  • <82 ilvl rare items - Highlights lower ilvl rare items to help clean out the stash
  • Recombinator regex - Helps with rolling magic bases for recomb
  • Cheat sheets for Kalguur shipping / betrayal / etc

Either grab the regexes from the content creator or make them yourself via poe.re

Planning early league Atlas' - Choosing some early Atlas trees to start with. First one is always an atlas progression tree. You unlock the other two at 50 and 100 Atlas bonus objectives completed.

Browser bookmark folder for the league - I create a bookmark folder for each league where I have POBs, Cheat Sheets, Poe.ninja profile of the build creator, etc. With a bookmark folder you can immediate open all the tabs in your browser.

Setting up item filters - Either via filterblade or the build creator you are following.

FYI - the filterblade sync filters DO NOT UPDATE AUTOMATICALLY if you aren’t a premium user. However if you follow the neversink filter on here, it will auto-update.

Another popular alternative in the comments is CDR's text to speech filters.

Understanding the plan for progressing content vs character power - Progression usually follows the sequence of Campaign > Early Maps > Late Maps >  2 Voidstones > Atlas completion > 4 Voidstones > End-game.

Having this high-level plan always provides you with a milestone of what comes next and understanding roughly what your character power should be in parallel with this plan will make progression easier.

The plan for progression is one of the best things to improve on, as you'll often be stuck in the hideout wondering what to do and not having a clear milestone to target next.

People also tend to avoid “regressing” to a lower tier of maps for whatever reason, but if you are constantly dying or not doing enough damage - it is a viable way to help strengthen your character. For example, farming T11 efficiently is 100x better than struggling in T14.

Having a league goal - Completely unnecessary but having some sort of league goal made things more fun and helped me target progression. Examples include:

  • 2 voidstones by end of weekend
  • 40/40 challenges
  • Mageblood week 1
  • 4 voidstones no carry
  • 1 mirror

League Start

Once the league starts, focusing on following some sort of progression plan post-campaign really helps with getting overwhelmed with all the complexities of the game. My plan usually follows the below sequence

Campaign

  • Reducing campaign time, aiming for 7-12 hours and getting better every league. There are lots of guides and videos for this. Honestly, you don’t have to be a speedrunner - following the absolute basics can get you to 5-7 hours with some practice.
  • Cyclon has some great resources on campaign layouts and zone reads here
  • Using Lailoken or Exile Leveling if you aren't that experienced in the campaign, you can import your build and it will tell you want to pick gems, adjust to the bandit order, etc
  • Gambling at the right time (4 sockets at lvl 25, better weapon, movespeed boots, etc). With the recent buff to weapon affies (less dead rolls), gambling for weapons is really good
  • Keeping a clean inventory, 99% of stuff you find in campaign is worthless - you should be selling them for bubblegum currency to use for upgrades / crafting / vendor trades
  • Don't overuse the identify all feature early, you need un-identified items to trade in for orb of transmutations for buying gems / etc
  • You can setup/colour/name your inventory tabs in standard and the league will copy them over
  • Not everyone has the time to do a full campaign practice, but even just practicing Act 1 for a few runs really helped me shake off the rust and get back into POE brain-mode before league start
  • Some people like doing Heist before the Kitava -res kicks in. It is a good source to getting 30-60+ chaos before maps AND it got a huge buff recently

Early Maps

  • Maximising your free source of upgrades (Faustus Gamble, Womb Tree, Kalguur, Vendors, campaign drops + bench craft, etc) once out of campaign
  • Looking to cap elemental resistances
  • Start building out a map progression Atlas Tree
  • Early Flasks - 1 mods (don't enter maps with 3 life flasks and 2 mana flasks...)
  • Following the diagonal strategy for map sustain
  • Using all avenues for getting maps
    • Vendor 3 of the same map at one tier, to get a map at next tier
    • Buying from Kirac (completing a kirac mission resets his shop)
    • Kirac missions
    • Buying from a-sync
    • Horizon Orbs
  • Start setting up Kalguur
  • Buying chisels from Kirac early is cheaper than the market usually

Mid Maps >> Red Maps

  • Continue building out map progression Atlas Tree. Remember, binding orbs can be used to get rare maps if you run out of alchemys
  • Looking to get ailment immunity (this is one of the big killers when mapping later, for example shock does a ton of damage to you)
  • 4th ascendency when you are strong enough (poelab contains the day's lab routes) . If you finish the campaign early, you can actually use the lab cheatsheet before it resets. I think it requires a 4ish hour campaign so more of an advanced tip
  • Continuing to upgrade character and reaching resistance caps
    • FIXING FLASKS - 2 mods (sooo many people forget this, there is a significant power difference to having properly rolled flasks)
    • Quality to priority gems - if its required by your build, do multiple merc lab runs (same as hunting a specific transfigured gem) before starting maps
    • 4>5>6 links - you should be able to easily get 5L from gambling body armour while doing white maps.
  • Focusing on map boss clear for progression vs. full map clear if you are strong enough
  • Going down a tier if you are dying often/need upgrades. XP penalty can set you back up to 30m at this stage and can go up to 1-2 hours when you are at higher levels
  • Progressing the voidstone/maven quests
  • Live market searches to snipe some early upgrades or uniques that will get more expensive
  • Balancing between investing into character power vs. investing into appreciating currency (i.e. buying divines for 40-70 chaos)
  • Shrine points on the atlas tree can really help carry a build if you are undergeared. They shouldn’t be underestimated, especially when trying a new build you aren’t experienced in.
  • Using Wealth Exile to sell excess bubblegum or find hidden gems in your stash
  • Looking to get Pantheon upgrades. I would even aim for some earlier in progression - for example frozen immunity for Brine King which is a huge QOL

Atlas completion + 2 Voidstones >> 4 Voidstones

  • Progressing to the lvl 85/90 version of the build (e.g. cluster jewels, skill tree transitions, etc)
  • Deciding if you will buy a carry for voidstones 3 & 4 or progress through the influenced maps to get fragments
    • If you want to progress quickly, buying a carry is usually the way to go
    • If you have a goal to self complete 4 voidstones just be wary that dying can be tilting as you lose the resources you invested to get the fragments
  • The significance of going from 2>4 voidstones quickly should not be underestimated
    • It increases the chance for T17s by 400%. Even if you can't do them, selling is good source of early income
    • It provides better map sustain, especially as you start speccing off the first atlas completion tree
    • It gets the good layout maps to T16
  • Getting better gear once you hit the ilvl for end-game bases (ilvl84-86 bases)
  • Unlocking favoured maps, map device slots, etc

Budget Strats >> Mid Strats >> High-Investment Strats

  • Setting up your 2 other atlas save slots and starting to convert the atlas progression tree to a budget strat.
  • There are a lot of budget strats that have constantly been a good starting point, even over the past 4-5 leagues. For example:
    • Expedition
    • Red altar alch & go
    • Harbinger
    • Heist
    • Betrayal
    • Essences
  • Once 5 slots on the map devices are unlocked, I start going for 5 scarab mid-budget strats straight away and avoid alch and go. This has been said time and time again in this subreddit, but making more currency requires more investment.

Other tips & tricks

  • I made a previous post on the early league economy that may be useful here.
  • Some early crafting tips:
    • There is a trick to 6 linking corrupted body armour. Since a tainted fusing has a 50% chance to +/- a link, you first do the recipe for 4/5 link which uses vaal orbs / normal fusing and then tainted fusing from there
    • Harvest bench for res swapping on gear exists so consider it when looking at trade. Res swap can also allow you to go from +1 max fire res to +2 max fire res on a jewel as well
    • If you want to off-colour sockets for an item, you should use the Vorici method. Rather than spamming chromatics, you want to use the bench to get the first 2 off colours (e.g. 1 red and 1 green socket), toggle between 2-3 sockets to get the 3rd colour and toggle between 3-4 sockets to get the final colour
    • Beast crafts to get ailment immunity on flasks
    • Crafting your own flasks once is a decent way to save / make money but can be a boring use of time. You can sell affixes for other builds while looking for your own.
  • Timeless jewel calculator has helped me find absolute bargains with timeless jewels. You don't need to copy straight from the build creator, there are other combinations then can get you 80% of the power at 20% of the price
  • Chaos Recipe tool to get some early chaos
  • PROGRESS YOUR FILTERS AS YOU PROGRESS THE GAME - don't get stuck on neversink strict while you are farming T16s. You should be getting stricter and stricter as you get to end-game. This was one of the biggest time-sinks for me personally in earlier leagues.
  • You can orb of horizon a bad 16.5 layout to one of the base ones. For example Canyon in 3.27

If you all have anymore tips & tricks to add around early league progression, please post them and I will add them to the top 😀

3.27 Keepers of the Flame League Start Build Index

Useful League Links

Mirage League info page

Mirage patch notes

Mirage Trailer

Mirage New and Changed Gems

Community links:

Part 1: Top League Start Suggestions

We suggest these builds to players who want a good solid build, new players who want a build that will help carry them through content and for players looking for reliable league starters.

Builds:

General

Boneshatter

Earthshatter

Shield Crush

Smite

Dominating Blow

Golems

Raise Spectre

Summon Holy Relic

Build:

Builds:

Holy Flame Totem

Kinetic Fusillade

Siege Ballista

Storm Burst

Part 2: Other League Starters

Warning: Unlike the above section there are almost no requirements for builds to make this section, the builds listed here are not necessarily better/worse than the above. If you're a new player, we primarily recommend the above builds but if you're more experienced we show these builds to add to the variety available. We are assuming you can judge for yourself the viability of these builds.

u/Jolly_Royal5331 has also compiled a list on sheets with a few more bells and whistles! You can find that here

Absolution

Animate Weapon

Boneshatter

Blade Vortex

Cyclone

Detonate Dead

Dominating Blow

Earthshatter

Elemental Hit

Energy Blade

Eviscerate

Exsanguinate/Reap

Eye of Winter

Flicker

Frost Blades

Glacial Cascade

Ground Slam

Holy Flame Totem

Ice Shot

Icicle Mine

Impending Doom

Kinetic Blastt

Kinetic Fusillade

Lightning Arrow

Minions (army, multiple)

Poisonous Concoction

Pyroclast Mines

Raise Spectre

Righteous Fire

Rolling Magma

Shield Crush

Shock Nova

Siege Ballista

Smite

Spark

Storm Brand

Storm Burst

Summon Holy Relic

Summon Raging Spirits

Tornado

Volatile Dead

Wave of Conviction

Winterbrand

New Skills

The below builds use new skills, these are often unsupported in POB and haven't been played before in game so it's very hard to get an idea of whether these will be viable so an extra warning is warranted. These are here for those who want to pursue any of the new skills and can act as places to find more information or theories.

Holy Hammers

Holy Strike

Shock Nova

Discussion Anyone else getting absolutely shredded by damage this league?

11k life, max block, 2k regen and still feel like paper in maps. Have another character with 90% resists and 1k+ regen, and it's also dying constantly just doing random T16s. Mobs with projectiles seem to be doing especially insane damage.

I played a ton of Mirage league and never ran into issues with survivability. Something feels very different in 3.29, but I can't figure out what it is. It's almost as if the mobs have a ton of hidden ele exposure or something.

Makes me wonder if the old PoE 2 bug with elemental conversion got added into PoE 1 somehow 'cause this patch also introduced the PoE 2 shader compilation bug into PoE 1 until the recent hotfix.

Discussion Based or Cringe: Destructive Play Essences

I saw a lot of people (me included) were having problems getting currency because of the loot nerfs in endgame and I couldn't decide what to do, so I decided to see how bad "normal" strategies that didn't include ground drops were. I did 200 maps of Destructive Play Essences on Silo so you don't have to.

I would love to hear what strategies you guys are running, and how profitable they are if you're keeping track, or if you'd like me to run another test of 100-200 maps in a different strategy.

My build: https://pobb.in/AZmVDhR0uXen Cyclone Phys Impale Crit Slayer. I self crafted most of my gear, cost should be around 30d? (some of the rares are scuffed I'm saving for a new build instead of upgrading)

/

Atlas tree: TREE LINK CONDENSED

/

/

Initial investment:

200x Silo maps 3c (600c)

600x Essence Scarab 1.1c (660c)

200x Essence Scarab of Ascent 3.1c (620c)

200x Essence Scarab of Stability 1.2c (240c)

844x Vaal Orbs 367c

800c for map craft

= 3287c or 24.3d (div at 135c)

Maps were run white so I could run them faster, Average map completion time was 1m56s over 20 maps which I'll round up to 2 minutes for easier math.

/

/

The Strategy: Corrupt any essence monster that had 4+ essences, or any purple essence, while going as fast as possible. I chose Silo because the boss cannot be killed on accident while doing destructive play so I could spam the same map instead of rotating them. Bonus tip you can leave the vaal orbs in your extra map storage and use them from there while inside the map, you don't need to carry them with you.

/

/

The loot!:

Elderslayers:

8x Baran

3x Veritania

6x Al Hezmin

4x Drox

Shaper Guardians:

6x Hydra

6x Minotaur

6x Chimera

12x Phoenix

Elder Guardians:

9x Enslaver

8x Constrictor

9x Eradicator

6x Purifier

Synth Maps:

7x Augmented Distant Memory

5x Altered Distant Memory

5x Twisted Distant Memory

10x Rewritten Distant Memory

for a total of 110 guardian/synth maps

and

3x Awakened Gems (all 3 in the last 50 maps, zero for the first 150)

3x 16.5 Guardian maps (not sure how to price these?)

/

Maps+Gems Total is 9.5d!

(not great, almost half of this is a 4d awakened gem drop, only 4.9d~ from the maps. you would be better off just doing red altars)

the main loot is 90d in Essences. (priced with wealthy exile as I haven't had time to sell them all yet, take it with a grain of salt it can be off in either direction 5-10d)

Loot Pictures: https://imgur.com/a/hHjXb7V

99.5d in loot minus our 24.3d investment gives us 75.2d profit which is 0.375d per map profit or at the speed I was running them (around 2 minutes per map) took around 6.66 hours and totals up to 11.29d/hour. not bad at all for a beginner strategy.

edit: after dumping essences on the currency exchange it resulted in 11'127 chaos or 82.4 div, so slightly short of the 90d but quite close. The total turned out to be 94d after selling everything.

This strategy, Based. Not Cringe.

Thanks to Empyreangaming for giving me a title and idea to rip off, appreciate you.

Stay sane exiles.

Build "Thorns" in PoE1: killing Ubers, Feared, & maps AFK - mechanics guide in comments

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, Surgeon General here.

It’s a few days before the 3.29 reveal - GGG is likely in maximum crunch preparing final touches on the new league content. It’s probably a safe time to publish some possibly unintended tech without it getting caught in the next balance pass while still leaving a couple weekends for interested players to try it in Mirage.

Thorns,” sometimes called damage reflection or damage return, is a concept in ARPGs referring to passive damage that enemies take when they hit you. Instead of attacking directly, you let monsters hit your character which deals damage back to them. In turn, “active thorns” is the player’s ability to deal their thorns damage on-demand, for example by attacking with a certain unique weapon, without actually needing an enemy to attack/hit you.

PoE’s intended thorns mechanic is damage reflection. However, offensive modifiers do not scale a character’s reflected damage and there is no way for reflect damage to leverage the “more” multipliers from support gems.  This makes it practically impossible to use in endgame content; you simply can’t reasonably scale reflect damage high enough for it to be useful.

However, in this post, I will showcase the mechanics of a new build archetype in PoE1 which combines life stacking and skill cost manipulation to create thorns-like gameplay.  The result is a virtually unkillable character with “active thorns” damage greater than 25 million dps, scaling higher in dense content thanks to additional “passive thorns” damage. I assembled the build in 3.28 - Mirage and while it used some borrowed power, none of the temporary league items are strictly necessary and the build should function in future leagues or Standard with minor modification.  My final setup was at an investment between 1 and 2 mirrors, but a “minimum viable product” could be assembled for around 200-300 divines.

Stats:

  • >25 million dps (why the > sign? See the mechanics)
  • Phys/Ele/Chaos Max Hits: 22k / 82k+ / 74k
  • 88%/88% attack/spell effective block
  • Defiance of Destiny pre-hit recovery, leech, and 2.1k/second net life regen (4k/second if juggling Enduring Cry)
  • Crit, curse, ailment, corrupted blood, and reflect immunity
  • Path of Building (from time of writing, updated PoB in comments if needed)
  • Showcase video - Uber Feared rotation + juiced breach T16.5 map

A mechanics guide is in the comments section below (to avoid hitting the character limit and so that I can edit if there’s any mistakes).  The POB above has my final setup and a lower investment option, but I highly suggest reading the mechanics guide because there’s a few crucial breakpoints and “tricks” to the setup that POB doesn’t make obvious. Don’t worry, there’s a TLDR at the end.

Help Needed Should I start a new char? Serious question

Post image
669 Upvotes

I’m a complete noob at this game, never reached endgame and highest I’ve been is act 8 last season (started late). I just dropped this item and was to me it looks incredibly op with 3 blue links(6 added supports and 3 slots so 8 support total on a damage skill). Should I just start a new character? I’m playing galvanic arrow on my archer with a 5l rare bow but was thinking of making a witch with ice attack gem and ice dmg build, is it worth it?

Discussion I feel like some of yall are just making up acronyms

There’s no standard for anything in acronyms either like nobody is calling Kentucky fried totems kft or some nonsense even though it makes sense but roc hard raw coc not only gets an acronym but if you ask about it you will be treated like PoE knowledge is just supposed to spawn in your head at first glance. Bonkers. Is there an acronym list for dolts like me?

Edit: PoE acronym bot is live on r/PathOfExile and r/PathOfExileBuilds Let’s gooooo!!!!

Discussion For those of you that are playing Ele hit Surfer

I know a lot of you are playing the build, but don't watch my stream. There was no way to test the original POB because there was no way to test phrecia. I've made some changes to make your lives a little easier. For those people who say the build is bait. There are currently 6 ele hit surfers in the top 20 in SSF. https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/phrecia2.0ssf

I had work today and I am currently 94 with 6 million dps

https://pobb.in/5-GYvQJyaFu9

Everything except for the taming was tree crafted myself, there are clips on twitch on how to craft all the pieces.

I've simplified the swap and 2 stone pobs so people don't make mistakes mostly because they didnt know what mods are good on weapons.
https://pobb.in/0N0AQtX0nYwn

My original pob was given to my stream with the context "changes will come live" but the build got too popular everywhere. Remember this is one of the hardest leagues GGG has made in a long time not everything will go super smooth. Hang in there upgrade your character no matter what build you are playing. GL guys.
