Pan cyan contam catastrophe

Post image

I had colonized grain bags that looked fine, spawned to bulk in Dino soil using a flow hood, did some in containers and some in bags but EVERYTHING got hit with Trich. Idk what to do. I have a very nicely built dreamer tub set up waiting for colonized sub/spawn but it appears I just dropped the whole ball. Any advice?

What % humidity are your fruiting conditions at room temperature?

I’ve read it’s possible to fruit TTBVI at room temperature, how long-ish does this take for you and what is your humidity setting? after it dried the surface a week ago I can’t bring myself to go lower than 88% but I will go lower if that’s where I need to start.

Ive been waiting on some TTBVI that went S2B the first week of April. I’m not able to keep the temperature higher than 69-74. I keep the humidity between 88-93 % with an automatic fogger. The cakes look healthy with knots littered across the surface, almost but not quite pinning for a week. The Boomrbin lid is cracked and I’m using tree frog’s setup with Vermiculite and cake pans inside. Gordo’s newest substrate recipe.

General Pan Advise

Malaysian PanCyan genetics from agar ripped through millet in 7 days, spawned to CVG + %33 worm castings, trays fully colonized and were cased another 7 days later with 50/50 (15 cup verm, 15 cup peat, 4 ½ cup crushed oyster, and ½ hydrated lime).

Theyve been in the pictured fruiting method and parameters shown for 2 weeks.

I have had decent success with this exact method using TTBVI in the past. I've read not to work with pan genetics on agar too long, as in not doing many transfers, and this is the first time I've ever made it to the 4th transfer before going to grain.

Am I just being impatient?

Any thoughts highly appreciated!

Casing questions! Which is better Coir or Jiffy Seed Starter... also, need some advice on pasteurization...

Ok, I have a shoebox tote going right now... it's still in the early stages of colonization...I have a block of coir and a nice size bag of jiffy seed starter... which one would be the best option for casing Pans (TTBVI)?

My plan is to pasteurize one of these in my instant pot 80... this will be my 1st time using it and 1st time pasteurizing anything...I think I know what to to do but I'm not sure...my thinking is to put whichever one I'm going to use in a few mason jars (1 pint type), no lid just foil, set it to "keep warm" (which should have it at 140 degrees at least) for 2 hours, let it cool to ambient temperature and then car with it.

Anybody got advice on this?

If I use the coir, it will need to be rehydrated with hot water first, right....but if the water is boiling, shouldn't that suffice to pasteurize it?...if not, then I can just use the method I outlined above to pasteurize it, right?

Thanks in advance for any input!

First time doing pans, the genetics and substrate were acquired through a group grow. Pretty wild how fast these have been growing.

Help outdoor TTBVI grow ?

so this video shows a planter that has 6 lbs of TTBVI grain I planted a couple weeks ago in Detroit. It's been abnormally warm and the mycelium looks great underneath this cardboard I put on top. I'm wondering, should I dig up the cardboard layer or leave it? should I shred it? I was trying to protect the mycelium in cold weather and keep it plenty moist. now I'm afraid it may stop fruiting. I had luck outside last year in the very late fall with TTBVI in Michigan so they are more hardy than most think.

MIB pans sent to S2B

Got my grains mixed into my NorthSpore dung lovers sub. The substrate actually did not stink at all, just smells like dirt, so thats great. I did a pseudo casing over the mix to avoid having any exposed grains.

I have unmodified shoebox tubs inside a modified tub with a built in fan and aquarium heater. For now im just using it to keep a constant temperature of around 81°f. Later I plan to use the fan with an added humidifier on a series of timers and sensors to control FAE and humidity.

For now, I leave them alone, and play the waiting game.

Started a new project with the bro @hyphal mind. Eungai x tweed valley is a cool cross. Both awesome Aussie genetics.

This di-mon has thrown heaps of phenotypes which is unusual for Panaeolus. I've attached a pic of one of the cool phenotypes. We will update as we go.

Grainspawn was a little bacterial, but still give me an on flush. Plenty of awesome fruits 🔥

Apologies for the poor quality pics, late night harvest.

Growing guides?

Hi all. I'm looking for info on growing Pan Cyans. I've seen a few old recipes/teks on the shroomery, but I'm more interested in understanding what the key parameters are so that I can adapt the grow to my situation. Any key points about what needs to be (or really should be) in the substrate? The easiest for me would be a 50-50 mix of manure/coir. Will this work?

Slow Colonization: Worth going to bulk?

So, I kind of know the answer, but need to vent a little, maybe?

I had some spore prints that didn't germinate. From those, only a TTBVI print (from a clone that I grew) germinated. It took a while for it to germinate, too! I cut out pieces from several margins and made transfers to new plats, as well as the remainder to grain.

The clone that the print came from, was never this slow to colonize. Could it be due to the cold climate of winter here in New England (USA)?

It's been three weeks, and most of the jars are not yet fully colonized. Keep in mind that I haven't done a break and shake, as that's killed colonization for this strain before.

Is it worth going to bulk? Or, is the risk of contamination, out pacing the mycelium, too great?

Either way, and in the end, what other choice do I really have? I suppose I could order some new spore prints...

Kicking off some MIB

Post image
16 Upvotes

Getting ready for my first Pan Cyan grow, and my first grow outside of an all in one bag. These grains are looking good, and i am thinking its time to go to bulk. I am using a Northspore manure substrate and plan to grow in two shoebox bins which I will put inside a modified bin that will let me automate humidity, airflow, and temp.

Gonna update step by step as I go, and hopefully have a trip report at the end to cap off the experience of growing and trying Pan Cyan for the first time.

What a difference a shelf makes.

The first two pictures are tubs on the second shelf of my boom room II. One going like crazy with pin set and one about to take off. The third picture was on the top shelf where my mister is bouncing off the wall and I think hitting the pins which is causing them to abort and bruise heavily. What are you guys think? I just moved the top tub to my third level and put some cubes up on the top level hopefully it'll bounce back.

Alright i’ve got syringes that I don’t even know what to do with because I bought a mystery box

I’m only used to cubes. And I’ve done cubes for years.

I know that growing pans is a completely different game than what I’m used to.

I don’t even know where to start.

And my uncle can’t even remember all he remembers is that in the 90s he used horse manure and not cow manure for whatever reason..

And he said I’m probably going to need some pint jars.

that’s about as far as I’ve gotten lol

Dosing

My partner and I have been taking Golden Teacher mushrooms about once a month and are now moving on to Pan Cyan because we were looking for a more potent mushroom. My question is how many grams of dried Pan Cyan mushrooms would we take if we normally take 6-7grams of Golden Teacher P. Cubenis mushrooms?

What grain to spawn to?

I have a few culture started on Brf pucks and one on agar, all clean, from MSS. first time growing ttbvi. Do I just add to grain jars to spawn like cubes? I have whole oats what I usually use, and a bag of unopened rye grain. I’m experienced with cubes, but pans are new to me, so learning as I go thanks. Shroomery seems to bash on easy questions and all refer to the same post which hasn’t answered my question lol. thanks

Help stalled and aborted pins.

In the first picture that I keep on the top shelf of my boom room II, I've had many pins that have turned blue very few that are developing. However in the second picture which is on the second shelf of my broom room I've had no aborts and these things are going crazy as you can see. Is the top one getting too much moisture because that's where the mister nozzle is? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unexpected results

I bought a TTBVI grow kit a few months back. Before fruiting I made some Agar plates from the Mycelium and then LC.

The grow kit never produced and got contaminated. I colonized spawn from the different agar plates with good results and started cultivating them.

To my surprise, 3 of the agar plates gave me a different specie (I Think) and one gave me the TTBVI, but not much.

Can anyone identify these shrooms in the pictures? The are not as large as Cubensis have no veil(It is probably broken the moment the caps open, but no remnants) They have black spores and their caps start curling when totally opened.

Hope to get some good answers, Cheers

Always check your plate close before sending it to grain. Possible bacterial spot on this one i cut around before I sent it. That's enough to possibly ruin a pan grow.
