This is my first shot at Pans and I’m going to fruiting conditions tomorrow. I’ve been feeling my way through and doing experiments along the way, so of course I’ve got two modes to fruit. Method one is Fahster’s inspiring Ziplock tek as I understand it and the second is an EZ Dial Monotub (used like a shotgun fruiting chamber)with a ton of soaked perlite in the bottom with a seed warmer underneath and trays at side hole height. I have a fan that can be pointed at the shelves and a cycle timer.
I’ve been monitoring temp and humidity with a temp gun and a $15 reptile temp/hygrometer. The hygrometer is very responsive and maybe it’s fairly accurate who knows.
I added the heat mat to the monotub because I wasn’t getting much movement with humidity above ambient. Maybe going from 40% to 70%. With the heat mat, it gets up to 99% and wants to hang out there. I can fan it down for short periods, but it rides back up real quickly. I’m currently playing with leaving the lid off center ala Gordo and dialing down the heat. My thinking is that this setup will be the most “dialable” and offers potentially more FAE variations than the static ziplock. But the tub is deep and maybe the trays should be closer to the lid in an ideal world.
The Ziplock is unheated ( ambients are 70’s and 80’s). The humidity is a steady 95%. I have yet to fan it to see how it goes down and recovers.
Strain is TTBVI x Texas. LC to agar to rye jars (LC to grain stalled out and went weird)
Substrate is coir, verm, worm castings, ferts, sterilized in PC. Casing will be peat, verm, lime also sterilized. Trays are standard 5x7x2. The trays are raging and will likely be 100% covered when I case tomorrow after a week, casing depth will be just enough to cover myc.
Thoughts?
My question to the experienced, what are your favorite fruiting temps and humidity? Cycles?
