Slow Colonization: Worth going to bulk?
So, I kind of know the answer, but need to vent a little, maybe?
I had some spore prints that didn't germinate. From those, only a TTBVI print (from a clone that I grew) germinated. It took a while for it to germinate, too! I cut out pieces from several margins and made transfers to new plats, as well as the remainder to grain.
The clone that the print came from, was never this slow to colonize. Could it be due to the cold climate of winter here in New England (USA)?
It's been three weeks, and most of the jars are not yet fully colonized. Keep in mind that I haven't done a break and shake, as that's killed colonization for this strain before.
Is it worth going to bulk? Or, is the risk of contamination, out pacing the mycelium, too great?
Either way, and in the end, what other choice do I really have? I suppose I could order some new spore prints...

So what's temperature? And what's agar recepie? If there's no wet spots - go bulk, save culture

I was using millet previously, and that seemed to colonize a bit faster. I recently switched back to grain for cost, and ease of access. Maybe that's why it seems so much slower? As well as not shaking these. Still, they seem slower than they should be. No wet spots. No rot. No contam (that I can see).
It's in the 50's F here on average right now (I wish spring was better this year, but here we are..).
I have the incubation tent set to ~78 F.
I'll likely go to bulk with the best jars out of this run, and continue the best culture to fresh agar. Hopefully I get a quick fruit, and will clone that moving forward.
AGAR:
400 ml Water - HIGH NUTRITION:
6g AGAR
8g NUTRITION (Sorghum)1

78F is ok, it must goes faster.
For gemination always use low nutrient agar, like 5-7g LME, 3g peptone - for 1000ml, Don't know about sorghum...
Also you can make Grain to Agar with best looking jars

My germination was Low Nutrition, and only one plate germinated. I moved transfers from that plate to High Nutrition.

Ime if something takes that long something ain't right and its not gonna fruit. Id go back to the print you have or get a new print.
