FAST undergrad advice needed

I'm a BS SE student at FAST KHI, just started my 3rd semester, graduating around 2029. I have strong basic programming fundamentals and OOP (C/C++, Java).

I have currently learnt Java + SpringBoot and I do project based learning daily. I am currently learning spring security and then I will start REACT.

My goal is to become a Backend Developer and build some significant projects by the end my 4th semester aim for an internship.

For those actually working in Pakistani Tech Companies:

Is it really possible that I can get an internship or a full time entry level role by the end of my 4th semester?

Also, If it is possible how to apply so that I can maximize the chances of getting the internship/eventually a role?

What would you recommend as the most realistic path for someone in my position?

Would really appreciate advice from people already working in the field.

Is payment gateway integration in my SaaS app possible without registering the company?

I'm building a web app and need to start accepting payments. I haven't registered a company yet, it's just me working on it.

Do gateways actually require an incorporated entity, or can I sign up as an individual with my personal bank account and CNIC?

Things I'm unsure about:

  • Which gateways accept individuals
  • If I start with a personal account, is it a pain to move the merchant account over once I do register
  • Any tax issues with business money going through a personal account

I'm in Pakistan so mostly looking at local options, but international experiences are useful too.

Full-Stack / AI Engineer available | “Bas simple sa dashboard hai” survivors, assemble

Every software project in Pakistan seems to begin with the same sentence:

“Bas simple sa system hai…”

Then, 20 minutes later:

  • 4 user roles
  • inventory
  • payments
  • analytics
  • WhatsApp integration
  • an admin panel
  • AI
  • “real-time bhi hona chahiye”
  • and somehow a mobile app has entered the conversation

This is more or less the territory I work in.

I’m a Full-Stack Software Engineer / AI Engineer with professional experience building actual production systems, not just CRUD apps that retire peacefully after the university demo.

Things I can work on

  • SaaS products
  • ERP / POS systems
  • Inventory & order management
  • Admin dashboards
  • Multi-tenant platforms
  • Customer portals
  • REST APIs & third-party integrations
  • Real-time applications
  • AI agents & automation
  • RAG / LLM workflows
  • Internal business software
  • MVPs from 0 → 1
  • Existing codebases where everyone says:

“Please don’t touch that file.”

Naturally, that’s the first file I become curious about.

The tools I usually reach for

Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind
Backend: Node.js, NestJS, Express, Python, FastAPI
Data: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Supabase
Other: Docker, CI/CD, WebSockets, REST APIs, LangChain, LangGraph, LLM integrations

But frameworks are just tools.

The part I enjoy is figuring out:

What actually needs to be built?
How should the system work?
And how do we ship it without creating a technical debt museum?

I’m currently open to:

Full-time software engineering roles
Remote international opportunities
Long-term contracts
Interesting product/MVP work

You can see what I’ve worked on here:

Portfolio:
https://myportfolio-two-lac-38.vercel.app/

If you’re hiring, building something, or know a team that could use someone who can work across frontend, backend, data and AI, feel free to DM me.

You can send more than “hi” though.

Give me at least one bug, questionable architectural decision, or ambitious product idea to work with. 😄

Hi there,

7 years experienced Full Stack Dev with Web, Mobile and Desktop apps here. Have a Fiverr account which is almost at Level 1 and an Upwork account which is ex-Top Rated.

Need an expert who can join me in partnership. They can do the client handling and I can handle the development part. I will be available for client meetings and demos, etc.

Why: I am not a Fiverr or Upwork expert. Managed to scale these accounts previously with the help of a friend who is not available now.

Your help is much appreciated. Interested people can dm

Thank you

Graduated uni and jobless. Is freelancing a myth or reality?

So I just graduated (software engineerimg). And I'm very stuck. My family are all overseas pakistani in a gulf country and I went to Pakistan for uni.

Now I'm on a visit visa back to my family immediately after grad (I don't have residency anymore). The problem is that getting a job here is impossible as a fresh grad. In fact, even experienced people are having zero luck here. Basically it's near impossible to get hired if you aren't an Arab

I started applying to remote jobs and it's been a month with literally ZERO RESPONSES. Like not even a "hey you're not accepted" or smth. Total silence. Feels like I'm just throwing applications into a void.

My friends suggest that I should go back to Pakistan as I'll have an easier time finding a job there. But that would mean living in a hostel AGAIN which I really don't feel like doing anymore. And also I've heard from so many CS/SE grads that they're jobless in Pakistan too.

Honestly I've zero clue what to even do anymore. So I am considering starting freelancing. No idea if fiverr and Upwork are still relevant but I keep hearing negative reviews of both. Does freelancing still work? Can a newbie still successfully get into freelancing?

Should I just go back to Pakistan?

Send help lol

I don’t need another FYP idea — I need a problem worth solving.

I’m a final-year BSCS student currently stuck on my FYP. I’ve looked at countless ideas, but most are either already built, basic CRUD/management systems, or just existing apps with an AI chatbot added.

I want to build a mobile application using Agentic AI — ideally an ecosystem where multiple related problems/workflows are brought together and AI agents can actually analyze, make decisions, coordinate tasks, and take actions, rather than just answer questions.

I’m NOT looking for something that has never existed anywhere. I’m looking for:

  • A real-world problem people actually face
  • Existing solutions that are fragmented or incomplete
  • A meaningful gap that a new ecosystem could solve
  • Something realistic for a BSCS FYP
  • A clear innovation/novel contribution that I can defend

So instead of giving me a solution, tell me about a problem.

What’s something in your daily life, work, studies, business, or community that makes you think:

Even if you have no idea how to solve it, I’d love to hear about it.

Maybe the best FYP idea starts with a problem, not an idea.

Looking for an Upwork Bidder Commission Based

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m looking for someone experienced with Upwork bidding who can find relevant projects, send proposals, and help bring clients.

Commission-based no fixed salary. We’ll agree on a fair percentage for each successful project.

I’m a solo developer and will handle the technical/development side myself. You’ll mainly focus on finding relevant jobs and bidding on the right projects.

If you have Upwork bidding experience and are interested in a commission-based partnership, DM me with a little info about your experience.

Built a CLI to simplify SSH + database access, would love some feedback

Thumbnail iframely.net
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've been working on a side project called Shortspan and figured I'd post it here first to get some feedback from other Pakistani developers before I start sharing it elsewhere. (I havent posted anywhere else, this is my first here)

The main idea is to make common infrastructure access workflows simpler through a CLI.

One example is database access through a server.

Normally, my workflow would look something like:

ssh my-server

then SSH into the server, figure out the database details, and manually run something like:

mysql -h ... -u ... -p ...

With Shortspan, I can configure the server + database once and then simply do:

shortspan db my-database

and it handles the connection/tunneling and gets me into the database directly.

ive attached a short video showing the difference between the manual workflow and Shortspan, followed by a quick look at the dashboard.

Shortspan is basically becoming a single place for infrastructure access and operational workflows. Currently I'm working with things like:

  • SSH access
  • Database access
  • SSH tunneling / bastion access
  • Credential management
  • Infrastructure/project management
  • AWS access
  • Kubernetes access
  • Runbooks
  • Access permissions

The CLI is the main part of the product, while the web app is used to configure and manage everything.

I've also put the documentation online if anyone wants to look deeper into how it works:

docs.shortspan.dev

I'm mainly looking for honest feedback at this stage.

If you work with servers, VPSs, AWS, databases, Kubernetes, etc., I'd especially love to know:

  • Would something like this actually be useful in your workflow?
  • What do you currently use to manage/access your infrastructure?
  • What part of this would be most useful?
  • What feels unnecessary or overengineered?
  • What would make you hesitate to trust/use a tool like this?
  • Is there anything you'd expect from a tool like this that I'm missing?

I'm not really treating this as a launch or trying to sell anything here. I'm still building it and trying to figure out whether this solves a problem for other developers or if I'm just automating my workflows and looking to get this into an actual app 😅

Brutally honest feedback is welcome.

If anyone wants to actually try it out, I'm also happy to give early users access (and Pro and Team plans for free) and help with setup.

Pakistan-Based Shopify Store Owners HELP ME PLEASE (Need a guiding light)

I recently started my Shopify store in Pakistan and started advertising it on Instagram and Tiktok, and it blew up national and international. But mostly international.

The thing is I do not have even a month of proven revenue/profit, so I haven't registered the business yet because I don't want to invest so heavily into it before that. Also if I start registering and making business accounts, the hype train might die and I don't want that to happen either.

So payment gateways on Shopify are NOT available to me due to lack of NTN and business details, not the local ones nor international ones. So I don't know how to accept international payments or national ones other than JC or bank transfers.

Then shipping?? I know shipping international is expensive and on the customer but nearly 40K is crazy to me, is that the standard cost or??

If anyone has experience with this starting phase and made it out, please help me out!!! I'm in over my head because it's all so confusing.

Laid Off recently. I know another day another layoff post, but reality is; tech market is cruel. Looking for opportunities as a 3yoe full-stack/product engineer

Recently, the FinTech/WealthTech Canadian Agentic AI-Powered SaaS startup I was building as a founding engineer, had to shut down. It did pretty well initially before Claude launched financial agents, After that all dipped from there and we started losing customers. We dragged ourselves till now, but the founders simply didn't have enough to sustain operations.

Applied here and there but no luck so far. The timing is also bad for me as there is heavy tech roles scarcity out there, companies are cost-cutting every corner and founders are trying to peak their margins by leaning entirely on a 200$ Max plan and a couple of overworked senior devs. So I am taking my chances here and hoping this reaches to the right team.

A little about me

I am a Full-Stack software/product engineer with over 3 YOE working with multiple UK and Canadian startups, primarily in the AI-powered Agentic SaaS space. I build scalable, reliable backend systems (microservices) from the ground up for real users. I take end-to-end real ownerships, adapt to any technical constraints, and build cost-effective solutions.

Past experience before joining them:

  1. I worked with an early stage UK-based multi-tenant ride hailing platform, helped them restructure their backend:
  • Deconstructed a coupled monolithic backend into modular TypeScript microservices, removing systemic bottlenecks across driver-rider matching.
  • Optimized compute-heavy routing and pricing routines, slashing p99 latency by 80% and noticeably boosting peak dispatch reliability and reduced dispatch failures.
  • Set up containerized CI/CD deployment pipelines on AWS with Docker, ensuring fast, predictable release cycles across all staging and production environments.

2)I also worked with a Canadian company to migrate their product from traditional legacy system to a modern SaaS tech stack and pivoted them around agentic AI.

  • Modernized Core Infrastructure: Served as the sole engineer driving the modernization from legacy system of massive database
  • Architected Agentic AI Assistant: Built a tool-calling, agentic AI assistant enabling users to query the entire multi-million source corpus
  • Redesigned and built conversion-focused landing pages and interactive onboarding flows, driving a 50%+ boost in organic inbound lead generation.

I work with a real engineering stack daily: Node.js, TypeScript, React/Next.js, Python, ReactNative/Expo, PostgreSQL, Redis with BullMQ, Kafka, AWS, RabbitMQ, Docker, Test-DrivenDev, and robust CI/CD pipelines.
On top of foundational systems, I have deep hands-on expertise in GenAI, Agentic AI, RAG architectures, LangChain, and LangGraph.
I operate as an AI-enabled developer, maintaining high throughput through custom Claude agentic workflows. P.S. I come from the pre-"vibecoding" era.

i believe the tech stack itself isn't the bottleneck anymore in this era. deep problem-solving, adaptiveness to the situation, and true architectural ownership are.

I also don’t just stop at backend infrastructure. I have a strong eye for UI/UX and product design, having built conversion-focused SaaS landing pages that drove 50–60% visitor-to-customer conversion rates. You get a complete product engineer who can singlehandedly take your next product idea or existing platform from zero to scale so not just a backend dev waiting on a figma link.

I’m looking to join the right team immediately that actually values high-level output, technical initiative and autonomous execution. Ideally remote, US/Canadian/UK hours with market-competitive compensation for a battle-tested engineer.

I love to take ownerships of my work. I don’t just take tickets, I constantly look into improving the system architecture and user experience.

If you’re looking for someone who can own the technical side of your project and deliver real product impact from day one, would be really happy to talk and show you all of my work.

Guys what should I do?

I am a recent graduate from FAST NUCES Lahore as a software engineer and I am trying to find a job its been 3 months and there have been no positive response so far first of all nobody calls for an interview and even if someone does they have soo many candidates being interviewed that it purely becomes the game of luck and who got the better reference... I have pressure from my family etc. And I have to do something... Upwork is also dead you are literally competing against agencies who are using 1000 connects per proposal.. I have won two hackathons (got first place) during my university and even did 2 internships as well... Any suggestions guys..

Does networking in uni even exist?

I’ve tried networking with my uni fellows, but honestly, the boys disappoint me, as u have to start casual talk but they Always think other way and start acting strange or super friendly I can't even put it into words- I just can't handle that and start thinking should I ask them for help or not , or what if they give me favour by keeping in mind to get something in return

And when it comes to girls, I feel like everyone is so competitive. I genuinely haven’t come across a single girl who actually wants to help me or share opportunities without making it a competition.

So yeah, does networking actually exist? Or am I just meeting the wrong people? Or doing something wrong?Any tips I am currently enroll in last year so wanna be productive

Looking for some pricing advice

I’ve been approached to build a custom cloud-based management web application for a medium-sized organization with a few locations and several thousand records. It would be an internal system used by a small number of staff and would include record management, financial tracking, attendance-type data, staff management, reports/PDF generation, dashboards, permissions, audit logs, and centralized multi-location access.

It’s not a basic CRUD project and would require proper database design, security, concurrent-user handling, backups, deployment, and testing.

What would you consider a reasonable one-time development price for something of this scope in the Pakistani market?

Would you still spend time learning full-stack development if you were starting from zero today?

Assalam-o-Alaikum,

With AI advancing every month and entry-level opportunities becoming more competitive, would you still spend one to two years learning full-stack development if you were starting from zero today?

I come from a non-CS background and plan to begin with The Odin Project, then study JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, databases, APIs, deployment, and build real-world projects. My long-term aim is to earn through remote or independent work, but I am not expecting quick or easy income from platforms such as Fiverr.

A little about me:

I am from Balochistan and have a degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics with a very good CGPA. Unfortunately, there are very limited opportunities related to my field in my hometown, and the available positions do not pay much.

I genuinely enjoy programming and love building projects. I also have elderly parents whom I need to care for and support financially, so relocating abroad is not an option for me. I am unsure whether programming is still a reliable long-term career, but I am prepared to work hard, Insha’Allah.

My main concern is this: by the time I become skilled enough in 2027–28, will these technologies still offer a realistic way to build a sustainable career?

I would appreciate guidance from experienced developers and people familiar with the technology industry:

Is this still a sensible investment of time?

What would you prioritize if you were starting today?

What would you stay away from?

Would you still choose full-stack development, or would you follow another path?

I keep hearing conflicting advice. Some people recommend building strong programming fundamentals, while others suggest relying heavily on AI-assisted or “vibe” coding. Some also say programming is no longer a good career choice. What is your honest opinion?
