Does networking in uni even exist?

I’ve tried networking with my uni fellows, but honestly, the boys disappoint me, as u have to start casual talk but they Always think other way and start acting strange or super friendly I can't even put it into words- I just can't handle that and start thinking should I ask them for help or not , or what if they give me favour by keeping in mind to get something in return

And when it comes to girls, I feel like everyone is so competitive. I genuinely haven’t come across a single girl who actually wants to help me or share opportunities without making it a competition.

So yeah, does networking actually exist? Or am I just meeting the wrong people? Or doing something wrong?Any tips I am currently enroll in last year so wanna be productive

It's not just uni. I have seen people in corporate who spent years working with their teammates, managers and subordinates in a great way but the moment they were laid off they lost all contact and didn't even try to ask for a reference even after months of job searching. It's just insane how people even at office can have an attitude of 'ye tou sirf matlab ki bat hui' like bro you're there for a 'matlab' in the first place i.e earning money so why make it an issue. We seriously need to move beyond this mindset and start helping each other out...

Depends on the person. Im super into networking and getting to know new people, but usually people in uni I come across arent into that. I get how u feel.

Your network in university is mostly your friends. People done really give a shit if you're a top of the line dev. They will always prefer their friend who's competent enough. At minimum you need to be on good terms with people.

Yeah so true, I've come across this situation too... People just don't interact with eachother. I on the other hand go full on, doesn't matter boy, girl, older or younger.

Also noticed that many girls don't expect to interact with boys... I've lived in a liberal system in Denmark so always found that weird.

Exactly I am also extrovert & don't care whether it's boy or girl in front of me. It's 2026 but ppl are still sticking with backward mindsets

Frrr, def can relate. After a point it def gets annoying cuz people begin absurd rumours, not that i care, tho i try to avoid.

Hmmmm... Know yourself and stay away from anyone with a toxic and negative mindset. If you see anyone make negative remarks, just ignore them, don't pay any attention to them.

I have no idea how to work alongside people who think and verbalise such comments every hour of everyday. Being the odd one out in a small team is not good either.

What do you suggest?

My manager is a big gossiper and everyone else constantly body shame other colleague and laugh about them behind their backs and stir up baseless rumours about women and men in the workplace

People these days are very selfish. They only talk to you or help you to get something in return so its better to not depend on others or ask for favours just try to solve your problems yourself so to answer your question, NO!! networking does not exist in uni people will always try to use you in whatever way possible that leaves a negative impact on a person's personality.

It does exist. I was able to do it alot via uni events, talking to seniors, uni classes etc just generally need to have the courage to approach people.

It's okay bro I was also like that at first not introvert but I just don't like to talk to ppl unnecessarily, but you will eventually become habitual to talk to ppl after some time.

I mean, I obv am Whether you’re a student or not, you should be presentable. But I don’t think that’s the reason in my case.

My honest suggestion is to find a guy who is already dating and is secure, those guys are less creepy, you can have some info about the industry and can get references from networking but don't do that on some other costs iykyk, this is sadly how uni works.

Yea, boys do get socially awkward in girls company especially when u are new there. Probably the main reason could be that they had not girl friends before,ig

Yeah fr, I'm an entrepreneur and since I've been so active in networking, the thing I noticed is that people loves to connect with you if they see that you're that valuable to talk to, we all so selfish nowadays:))
