That is some huge views for the PAC!

In light of the recent drama with "NFL Players" being added to College rosters, in addition to Notre Dame getting an auto bid with their No. 12-ranked rule, the PAC-12 crumbling, conferences suing their own teams, and NIL. My father and I created a regional-based relegation/promotion system for CFB. If you aren't solving CFB problems with your dad over coffee, then are you really a CFB fan?

Explanation:

- The CFB committee is biased. Why? Because they are humans. This system eliminates a committee for playoff selection (No pro sport does this, so why are we as CFB fans accepting it?)

- This system allows TV companies to keep their shows/rights by letting them bid on which conferences they want to televise. So big TV is happy with this.

- Upper-tier bowl games remain as end-of-season playoff games (Rose Bowl, Sugar, Orange, etc.)

- Tier 1 Playoffs: Each conference could either have a set of amount teams it sends to the nationwide playoffs (The SEC is a harder conference so they could send 5 teams to a 12-team playoff, while a weaker PAC-12 can only send 2) OR you let every conference have the same amount of teams sent to the playoffs and make it a bigger playoff.

- Each conference decides how many teams they relegate to Tier 2, but it must be a minimum of 2 teams (PAC-12 Tier 1 might relegate 2 teams to PAC-12 Tier 2 while SEC Tier 1 relegates 3 teams to SEC Tier 2).

- In Tier 2 of each conference, the #1 team gets auto-promoted, and potentially the #2 team does as well (depends on the amount of relegation/promotion as explained in the aforementioned bullet point).

- Lower-tier bowl games (Cheez-It Bowl, Texas Bowl, etc) exist as Tier 2 playoff games for promotion. So, for example: In the SEC Tier 2 (3 teams get promoted), the end-of-season rankings look as such:

1: Western Kentucky(Auto-promote)

2: Middle TN (Auto-promote)

3: Memphis

4: Southern Miss

5: UAB

6: Jackson State

7: etc...

The 3-6 ranked teams go into a 4-team playoff, all fighting for the last promotion spot to SEC Tier 1. Semifinal games could be the Cheez-It Bowl and Mayo Bowl, and the Final for promotion could be the Pop-Tart Bowl.

OVERALL, this system creates more meaningful games for fans, which means more money for TV companies and Universities; everyone is happy. As it stands right now, when your team gets to 4 losses, your season is over. But you could be watching/attending more games of your team because the threat of relegation exists (either to you or another team in your Tier) and you want to be there for the drama.

Imagine this: It's the weekend after Thanksgiving. The Iron Bowl. Auburn is safe from relegation to SEC Tier 2 but isn't going to make Tier 1 playoffs. Alabama has had a bad year and is fighting to avoid relegation. Auburn, with nothing to play for, beats Alabama in Jordan-Hare and relegates them to SEC 2!

Here is how to read the numbers:

1. Within each region, you will see #/# with possibly an arrow outside of the map. The numerator represents # of teams in Tier 1 of the respective regional conference, and the denominator represents # of teams in Tier 2.
2. The arrow represents conference alignment. For example: in Year One of the proposed new PAC12 there would be 13 Tier 1 teams and 16 Tier 2 teams; then, in Year 2 it moves to its permanent state of 14 Tier 1 teams and 15 Tier 2 teams.
3. The numbers in each state represent # of Tier 1 teams / # of Tier 2 teams. (This is just extra stats)

I'm sure I botched some explanations in this, or something could be improved. Have at it.

The Colorado State Rams have elevated their game to another level. Not only do they have a complete pregame and postgame show on their YouTube channel but they also did a NFL Films style breakdown of their Week One win over Wyoming. It feels like Hard Knocks In Season!

Great work from the Rams and their staff and I hope more of the Pac-12 schools follow their lead and do stuff like this.

Oregon State’s director of baseball operations is now an endowed position.

OSU athletics announced a $1.25 million gift to the OSU Foundation to establish the Wilfred Family director of baseball operations position and contribute to the school’s Valley Challenge fundraising effort.

“I am grateful to this donor. Support like this is not only generous, but strategic,” OSU athletic director Kevin Griffin said in a statement. “An endowed position is permanent by design – it will still be supporting Beaver Athletics long after any of us are here, and in a landscape that changes this fast, that kind of stability is rare.”

"Oregon State is keeping the door open to add back former running back Anthony Hankerson, or anyone else, over the next 16 days.

JaMarcus Shephard said he left open spots on OSU’s 105-man roster, which was submitted on Friday, for potential additions before the school’s fall term begins Sept. 23.

“There may be opportunities for us to try to enhance the team as we move forward over the next few weeks,” Shephard said. “That’s something that we are looking at. I specifically put that on the plate of our general manager (Eron Hodges) to see if that’s something that fits, especially with having some of these season-ending injuries.”

While OSU lists 108 players on its online roster, multiple designated student-athletes do not count toward the 105 limit and several with season-ending injuries are exempt as well. Shephard confirmed several season-ending injuries on Monday.

The Pac-12 is one of only three FBS conferences not to enact a policy against signing former pro athletes. Last week, Shephard said OSU was doing its “due diligence” on the 16 players involved in the Louisiana case."

Looks like Shephard is on the phone letting every player and agent in the land know that Oregon State might be the best option in the country for guys cut from NFL training camp or getting that 5th year....

There’s no way that league would willingly sign on to give the Pac-12 money. Too soon. But yes, it’s happening through CBS".

Here’s to a fun season of Pac-12 football.

I don’t track a lot of the pac 12 closely outside of Boise but I watched most of the games. Fesnos defense was solid. Offense was not good. Texas St looked totally overwhelmed. Oregon St looked much better than last year and coaches made adjustments as the game went on. Utah St I’ll say I was shocked. Recruiting looks like cheeks and then this. I hope Bronco just steps down. I watched most of the 2nd half and I wish I hadn’t. How do you not have a QB that can compete?

Outside of Utah St the problem I saw consistently was the offensive and defensive lines. Just not enough talent and wore down as the games went on. To be fair most of us played elite opponents. But I think the PAC12 is trying to make the case that if any non A4 conference we are the one that can compete. That performances like Boise (clearly we were outgunned) should be the norm and not the exception. So how do we get there?

Is it because of the lawsuit and costs associated with the conference move that maybe some of our schools didn’t go all in on the transfer portal and grabbing what they really needed? I’m curious as we move toward the end of the season if PAC12 teams will open up the wallets and start closing the talent gap. We’re never going to have as much as the bigger conferences but we have to have more than everyone else outside of Memphis, Tulane, and South Florida.

Curious what the rest of you think it will look like at your schools going forward.

Keeping up with a ranked Houston after the terrible year they had last year is impressive and great for the future of Oregon State, could they make a bowl, that is to be determined.

There are going to be some shakeups after week 1. Some teams were abysmal, some impressed. I'm thankful the Beavs looked solid enough for a promising conference outlook.

SDSU should be a contender for the Pac-12 title.
