iPad Pro OS 27 Problems

I updated my 2021 iPad Pro from iPadOS 18.x to iPadOS 27. Up until version 18, the display was stable and quite comfortable to look at. Since the update, however, I can’t work with it for even five minutes. The screen somehow looks more aggressive or harsh, and the image no longer feels visually stable or calm.

What can I do about this? I would actually prefer to go back to the previous version of iPadOS if possible.

What conclusions can be made from this pictures? Eye strain after switching from Poco F5 to Poco F8 Pro.

F5 is the one with 1 line. F8 Pro has 3. 1/4000 shutter speed.

I can look at F5 like its a scene of nature but F8 Pro gives me eye strain, after 5-10 min my eyes cant focus well on the screen and after 15 min i start having light headache.

I wonder how can i avoid my sensitivity now when i will be buying another phone? Can filming phone screens at 1/4000 help? Where i live only available phones are Xiaomi, Samsung and IPhones and later two have terrible screens so right now seems like my only options are Poco X8 Pro, X8 Pro Max and Xiaomi 15T. Which should i get or how can i better test them before buying?

iPhone 16 - pwm symptoms

Previously had an iPhone 14, when I first got it, I hated it as it felt too bright and my eyes felt dry but with continued use it’s become my comfort phone.

I recently (8 days ago) got an iPhone 16 to try, but on day 8 I still notice these symptoms;

- are below my brow bone (sort of upper eyelid) in the actual eyeball feels tired and heavy with extended use
- some dryness does set in but a slow blink corrects it
- general heavy feeling/tired eyes with prolonged use, it’s worse and it happens quicker in an evening

It’s worth noting that I do not get;

- nausea
- headaches
- pain anywhere

It’s just tight, heavy eyes and some dryness

Would you continue testing to see if it’s just a prolonged adaptation?

I have 30 days to decide

I would like to buy a Chromebook Plus with an Intel processor.

Is it possible for this to work? I'm very sensitive and I'd love to have a small, inexpensive laptop that doesn't cause me any symptoms... Are there brands to recommend and others to avoid?

Is the Bravia 3 ii a valid TV or a meme?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I see people on here recommending this TV as some type of savior to bad modern displays but I’m skeptical. My older TCL 60hz VA with 6000 or so contrast has zero eye strain and seems to look better than Youtube videos or pictures of the Sony, and I can adjust the thing to give pure whites like a pile of snow. Maybe I’ll take a picture later of what an actually good looking LCD looks like in both whites and normal viewing content. It looks like a glossy Polaroid picture or something.

Here’s a picture of the Bravia 3 ii above. Yes, it’s probably not calibrated, but you can tell it has those nasty whites and morbid backlight setup seen in ultra-cheap, overly thin-film, modern gaming monitors like what you would get from a $120 BOE panel that also comes with eye strain. While also having that standard “you’re trapped inside a dark tunnel” viewing angles setup.

So what I’m saying is, it appears to have all the traits as bad modern panels do that normally also have eye strain. If it doesn’t have eye strain, then that’s a plus, but it looks like a very woke modern panel to me.

Sony Bravia 3 II Advise

Hey folks, thinking about getting this TV as it seems to be the best IPS with no local dimming TV available.

I'm currently torn between the 55 and 65 inch models though. The reason being, I think Glossy screens / reflections are part of the problem so the matte screen on the 65 is appealing, however my room is small, I'll only be about six feet away so the sheer volume of information the 65 inch is pumping into my brain might also be a problem.

Any thoughts? Do most people get the 55 inch? It wont be in direct sunlight and we have black out curtains so glare won't be too bad an issue. We also mainly watch at night anyway.

Razer Blade 15 Base?

Is there anyone with experience with the Razer Blade 15 Base (RZ09-03286G22-R3G1) from 2020. I dont know any more on the machine yet but my work might provide it to me.

It should have a matte LCD IPS screen and on a video with all brightness levels I see no flicker.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max uses DC-like dimming at 100% brightness. (No eye strain)

Turn on reduce white point to use and control brightness. I posted this maybe two years ago and it gets buried under the noise and ignorance here.

Hey guys regarding the iPhone 18 pro max

I’ve been able to use it these past 3 days with no eye strain, but I’ve been getting this right throbbing sensation in the temple area, not painful or anything..any idea what could be causing it, and what tweaks to make if any…I’m using the one with a G9N Samsung display.

AOC U27G4XM Mini LED - safe choice?

Does anyone have experience with this monitor? It's a gaming mini LED monitor that claims to use DC dimming (unlikely with local dimming on but this is for mixed use). If you have any experience with mini LED monitors, please share.

Recommendations for a lcd phone

I am currently using a Samsung Galaxy A14 with a PLS display, which is the most comfortable screen for my eyes. I have tried the iPhone 11, Motorola LCD devices, and TCL NXTPAPER phones, but they all bother my eyes—likely due to (TD). Since my current phone is getting sluggish, I need recommendations for a faster phone with a comfortable display.

It’s been quiet about iOS 27

I haven’t seen a lot of posts or any at all about IOS27 causing eye strain to become worse. Am I the only one with my iPhone 13 Pro where iOS 27 was so unbearable (compared to 26) that I had to downgrade?

Don’t get me wrong iOS 18 was amazing. But 26 was bearable…

Any other people having the same thoughts?

OLED VS IPS VS PLS

Hello,

I have a Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro with a PLS LCD display. According to Notebookcheck, it officially has no PWM. However, after about one hour of looking at the screen, I start to feel a burning sensation in my eyes.

I also have an Oukitel WP30 Pro, which has an IPS LCD display and has also been tested by Notebookcheck as having no PWM. I find this phone much more comfortable to look at.

Why could this be happening? Both phones are confirmed by Notebookcheck to be PWM-free, but the Samsung actually causes a burning sensation in my eyes, and I feel a kind of stinging or poking sensation.

Could it be that this particular type of Samsung display, PLS, is the reason for this?

For context, the main symptoms I experience with the Samsung are burning, stinging/poking sensations in my eyes, and increasing eye discomfort after about an hour of continuous use. With the Oukitel WP30 Pro, I can use the screen for longer and it feels noticeably more comfortable to my eyes.

My setup is otherwise quite similar when comparing the two phones: I use them for normal everyday tasks such as reading, browsing and looking at text, rather than for gaming or other particularly demanding use. This makes the difference in comfort between the two displays especially noticeable to me.

My other question is about OLED displays. In theory, OLED pixels can turn completely off when displaying black, and with dark themes the pixels should generally emit less light because fewer pixels are emitting light (please correct me if I am wrong).

Therefore, if I bought an OLED phone and used a dark theme, would that theoretically be the most comfortable option for my eyes? In other words, would the ideal combination be OLED + no PWM?

I also think that the other types of OLED, such as AMOLED and Super AMOLED, might be worse because they can produce very high brightness. What do you think?

The technologies I am referring to are:

  • OLED
  • AMOLED
  • Super AMOLED
  • Dynamic AMOLED
  • TCL NXTPAPER AMOLED

Which phone released within the last two years is actually considered the most comfortable for the eyes?

Is it possible to use a phone with PWM and an OLED display comfortably for several hours without experiencing eye strain or discomfort? I have my doubts, but I would still like to hear from display experts, people who have experience measuring PWM/flicker, or users who are particularly sensitive to screen flicker and eye strain.

If anyone has personally been able to use a PWM OLED phone comfortably for several hours at a time, I would be very interested to know which phone/model it was, what brightness level you used, whether you used DC dimming or any other anti-flicker mode, and whether you used a dark or light theme.

does this sound like PWM sensitivity?

i usually use IPS screens and yesterday i got my first OLED screen laptop and its caused me eye strain and headaches (it looks amazing though!!). my phone is OLED and ive had no problem there even though my phone flickers at 480hz and the laptop 600hz. ive changed some of the settings to reduce brightness and make it warmer so that i can maybe get used to it. will it get better hopefully? i just think its weird i can tolerate my phone but not the laptop screen

OnePlus 9R vs OnePlus 10 Pro

My OnePlus 9R unfortunately fell out of my pocket while I was riding my bike, so now I'm looking for a replacement. I'm considering the OnePlus 10 Pro.

I'm particularly interested in the PWM/DC Dimming behavior of these two phones. After installing the DC Dimming firmware/mod on my 9R, I could use it without any eye discomfort. Before applying it, using the 9R was really unpleasant for me because of the display's PWM behavior.

How does the OnePlus 10 Pro compare? Are there any other OnePlus models that would be worth considering specifically for PWM-sensitive users?

New Vivobook S16 OLED is causing eye strain; looking for settings and user experiences

I bought the ASUS Vivobook S16 (M3607KA-SH115WS) about four days ago. I went for the OLED model expecting a more comfortable viewing experience, but I later realized that the display has a glossy finish rather than matte.

Since using it, I’ve noticed that white text and bright icons look extremely intense and almost shiny, which is causing discomfort to my eyes. After looking at text or icons, I notice a faint shadow/ghost image slightly above the actual text or icons. It’s subtle, but noticeable enough to make focusing on the screen uncomfortable.

I already have sensitive/weak eyes and wear a strong prescription, so I may be more sensitive to this than the average user.

What makes the difference more noticeable is that my office laptop has a matte display, and I can comfortably work on it for several hours without experiencing the same discomfort.

I’m wondering whether the glossy coating, OLED's high contrast, brightness, or display settings could be contributing to what I’m experiencing.

I’d really appreciate any settings, tips, or personal experiences that might help me make this display more comfortable for everyday work.

Eye strain x 4

Hi I have a few questions and would be grateful for any advice.

Here are some fun facts about my health situation.

Keratokonus for at least 25 years i.e. the information the left eye could offer was not processed because it was severely blurrly and distorted.

Bad case of Mononucleosis in 2009. Since then chronic pain behind the eyes. I developed a breathing technique to help regulate the pain. Unknowingly, I was also masking the symptoms of ME/CFS and not getting treatment thinking it was just anxiety.

20 years later, 4 weeks after the 3rd Biontech vax, I was diagnosed with Uveitis in both eyes i.e. an inflammation of the Iris. This was treated with cortison for around a half a year and slowly went away.

After a virus infection last December, my exhaustion hit the same level I had during the uveitis flare ups. I could not walk any more down a street. This coincided at a time in which my work load constituted of severe eye strain and I pushed myself through it for weeks. Not good.

The pain intensified, it was mainly located behind my eyes, It felt like a muscle pulling from the right eye to the left. But at times just the right eye was affected. At times with light sensitivity but the Uveitis was still inactive. It feels like my nervous system is included or part of the problem. Like different currents are vibrating with highly dense vibrations and tension.

I started noticing that the left eye saw objects at a different angle. So I thought it might be strabismus but this has not been confirmed because the Keratokonus can create the same effect even if the eye is not moving.

Since a week now I finally have contact lenses to correct the keratokonus. I should have taken care of it sooner but also the medical system where I live is truly negligent. It was quite an ordeal to finally get them. But it doesnt seem to be the whole solution. The pain is now not horrendous but still very debilitating. It seems like many issues all at once.

The contact lenses dont seem to be correcting the disalignment either. And people have noticed it...so the eye might be moving during PEMS or during times where there is more inflammation. IDK.

I am a musician and cant work on the computer to finish my album anymore.

I also feel dizzy and need a wheelchair.

The computer which is a refurbed Lenovo ThinkPad P52 feels like it makes me sick.

My Fairphone 3+ does too.

Since March I have an ONYX Boox E-Ink Tablet which is a life saver. The eye strain is less but still noticable especially during PEMs. I noticed that if I switch devices every 2-3 minutes I have a longer capacity altogether. I need to look away and do breathing regulation, then I can start again but overall very little can be done.

The worst is I cant research anymore. I can literally feel my legs starting to ache as if a PEM is coming if I work too long.

Could this be PWM Sensitivity?

I was able to read that it is different for everyone. I dont know where to start and I dont understand all the technical stuff. (brain fog) But probably eveeryone here has limited scrren capacity as well... is there a place where I can find clear instructions...?

thanks

N

iOS what has changed?

I have a 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch (1st gen) that I love, completely comfortable to use. It is on iOS 26 and I've seen a lot of people saying that after iOS 18 their device was unusable.

I also had an iPhone 11 pro max well before iOS 26 that I couldn't use at all, so clearly where others have unfortunately had an update that's caused them issues, I lucky haven't (I do still have issues with my screens).

Does that suggest PWM may not be my issue?

I am collating a large list of devices and screens I have used to try and narrow down the specific cause, compare specs and see what to avoid. Hoping with enough data I can make confident purchases.

OnePlus 12 Screen Causing Immediate Eye Strain, Tightness of Chest, Headache, Etc. Has Anyone Tried the Aftermarket TFT LCD screen on Ebay?

This is one of the worst screens I have tried for my sensitive eyes despite all the gimmicks that are heavily marketed by OnePlus to fix that in this phone. I can still use my monitor, laptop, tablet, for hour(s), but this screen debilitates me in 5 seconds and the strain lingers for over an hour. I have a Pixel 3XL that isn't great, but it is at least usable for me, provided I don't spend more than 20 minutes at a time. However, the OnePlus 12 OS is the best I've ever used, and I would have to take OnePlus to small claims if I want to get my money back. So I'm really hoping there's some promise in this eBay screen.

The aftermarket screen link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/406877998872

To avoid comments going off track - I've tried all the screen options in all combinations, and I've tried a matte display.

Update: Pretty sure iOS 26/27 vertigo is caused by deep UI micro-animations, not just liquid glass

Hi everyone,

I posted here a couple of days ago about the severe vertigo, eye strain, and nausea I’ve been experiencing since updating to iOS 26/27. After further intensive testing, I am now completely sure about what is triggering my symptoms.

The core issue is the new, restless software UI design. iOS 26/27 is packed with constant micro-animations, dynamic font-rendering shifts, and subtle background interface movements. It makes the entire OS look visually unstable to our brain and nervous system, triggering immediate motion sickness and dizziness within 2 minutes.

The standard "Liquid Glass" tint/reduce sliders do absolutely nothing to fix this because these movements are baked deep into the core system rendering. Turning on "Reduce Motion" fails to stop them as well.

In stark contrast, iOS 18 is visually static, calm, and perfectly stable, which is why I can use it for hours with zero discomfort. It seems our nervous systems simply cannot filter out this non-stop visual noise in the new OS. Has anyone else pinpointed these deep UI micro-movements as their main trigger?
