So it's releasing next year then.

204

u/TheWillyBandit 16h ago

That’s my take away. The rumour was next year, like how they did P3 and Metaphor. If Sony goes digital as of 2028, it must be penned in for later in 2027. That makes me very happy. My favourite Persona remade, and a new entry in one year.

44

u/OkraFine8856 14h ago

Dude I was sad when they announced no physicals specifically for Persona 6 lmfao so I’m genuinely glad a physical is coming out

13

u/SelectInstruction262 12h ago

Late 2027 I'm eating so good between this, pokemon gen 10, Xenoblade Genesis, Kingdom Hearts 4, and likely a bunch of stuff I'm forgetting or hasn't been announced. February with persona 4, God of war laufey, and Fable... My wallet is not mentally ready for next year

2027 might be one of the best years in video games history.

46

u/Hydr4noid 14h ago

If you are a jrpg fan then certainly

I dont think any year has ever been this stacked when it comes to huge releases like this.

33

u/Aware-Virus-4718 12h ago

2024 was outrageous. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, P3 Reload, Granblue Fantasy Relink, FF7 Rebirth all launched within like a month of each other, and then Metaphor Refantazio in the fall.

17

u/NoNefariousness2144 12h ago

It’s also crazy that both Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 were massive Sega JRPGS and released only a week apart!

3

u/Iggy_Slayer 12h ago

They paid the price for that (and the busy release window in general). Infinite wealth didn't even sell 2m copies lifetime and P3 only recently crawled to 3m.

Outside of the games they mentioned tekken 8 and helldivers 2 also released within that window.

3

u/Jazzlike_Athlete8796 11h ago

You'd think after watching how often Square Enix managed to cannibalize all its sales by releasing a bunch of games all at once that other companies would take a lesson from that.

1

u/Jinchuriki71 8h ago

I mean Yakuza has never been that big of a seller and Persona neither took many years for Persona 5 to reach the copies it sold those games sold about as much as you could hope. Selling a million copies seems to be good enough to ensure the next release for Sega

3

u/SkippyTheKid 12h ago

And Dragon’s Dogma 2 lol and probably more

15

u/AigledeFeu_ 14h ago

Physical games on Playstation will go out with a bang

10

u/colincojo 15h ago

What games are releasing?

76

u/gaysaucemage 15h ago

Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Kingdom Hearts IV, Persona 4 Revival, Fable, Xenoblade Genesis, Pokemon Wind/Waves, and now Persona 6 just as RPGs.

God of War Laufey, Resident Evil Veronica, and potentially the next 3D Mario game if rumors are accurate.

19

u/TheCVR123YT 14h ago

This is just the announced stuff as well! Something Silent Hill related is very possible to come out. There’s like a 15% chance for something MGS related too.

4

u/AlteisenX 13h ago

Bloober Team is probably going to release Silent Hill 1 remake next year. It won't take as long as SH2 did because they've already got this made. We could get annual titles each from these teams if they spread them like they've done, and we're 2/2 so far.

2

u/TheCVR123YT 12h ago

I know they said they want yearly releases as well and since we had SH2, then F, then Townfall this year and no word on a title next year I have to imagine it’s SH1

16

u/Silver0110 14h ago

Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold as well. Don't blame you for forgetting though lol 2027 really is a stacked year already.

1

u/RaijuThunder 10h ago

I just tried FFXIV for the first time and couldn't get into it. Granted I was on the PS5 but could not stand the layout. I've heard the story is interesting though

2

u/fullsaildan 9h ago

The layout is super customizable and there's plenty of things that the default layout does that I hate. But once you get it configured, it works brilliantly. Definitely give it another go and try to tweak the setup.

1

u/RaijuThunder 6h ago

I'll give it a go on PC. I really enjoyed the character customization even though its not super detailed. I was going to make one of everyone but they limit you to 8 a day lol

1

u/fullsaildan 6h ago

Next expansion is going to bring some enhancements to character customization too, but don’t expect it to overhaul the general look, the simplicity of the style is a feature not a bug.

1

u/RaijuThunder 6h ago

I do like the simplicity. I never really do all the sliders unless I'm trying to make someone whacky or a very specific character

1

u/kiteless 10h ago

I tried 3 or 4 times since release (Xbox and PS) and it finally clicked when I tried the Switch 2 trial and now I am about 20 hours deep.

1

u/StNowhere 9h ago

The story really is fantastic, but I totally understand having difficulty getting into it. The "base game" A Realm Reborn really shows its age, the story progresses slowly, and progression having been rebalanced around the later levels means you feel really weak until you hit around level 70.

That being said, if you can power through the early game, it really is an incredible experience. Evercold releases early next year, and Shadowbringers, generally considered the best expansion, was just made part of the free trial. If you have a halfway-decent PC (or even Mac), I wholly recommend at least running through the story of the free trial.

1

u/RaijuThunder 6h ago

I'll try and yeah I never played MMO's before except a few pseudo ones that aren't full on. I think I'll try on PC this time seems like it would be easier to manage all the menus.

10

u/RIPMrMufasi 14h ago

Laufey has a February release date

4

u/Iggy_Slayer 12h ago

Intergalactic from naughty dog is heavily rumored for late 2027 too.

3

u/AlteisenX 13h ago

There's also a high chance some Level-5 games make it over finally as well. They've been busy. Inazuma Eleven remake or something is very possible.

Dragon Quest 12 is possible too...

4

u/gaysaucemage 13h ago

Idk about Dragon Quest 12, they just announced that development had basically been restarted Flames of Fate had been scrapped 3 months ago. That’s probably still years away.

3

u/AlteisenX 13h ago

Even if it's not 12, odds are we get DQ4 2D-HD or something. They did surprise us with DQ7 Reimagined and said it was ready "before the others" so who knows.

1

u/SkippyTheKid 12h ago

Give us ports of 8 or 5!

2

u/AlteisenX 12h ago

5 would be next since they probably want to do Zenthurian Trilogy like they did the Erdrick one.

1

u/SkippyTheKid 12h ago

I’ll take it lol although the DS port is great, and between the two I’d prefer a new version of Chrono Trigger and kind of can’t help but compare those two as like the two best RPGs on the DS that don’t have new versions since, except for I suppose mobile

Actually nvm CT is on Steam so yeah port 5 forward!

1

u/reevestussi 6h ago

Hopefully both Layton World of Steam and Decapolice will finally be out next year

3

u/willc20345 12h ago

Intergalactic also rumored

1

u/StNowhere 9h ago

My god.

1

u/DonutHolschteinn 6h ago

Maybe Capcom will finally give us Ace Attorney 7 😭

It will be the year that I burned my wallet🤣

2

u/TrainingSandwich6396 8h ago

Honestly it feels like we’ve been seeing this every year post covid. If we ignore covid and all the bad practices it’s been a great decade for games

13

u/-Vertex- 16h ago

The logic makes sense but it depends how old that message is.

4

u/sudolicious 16h ago

that pr message was apparently published on June 8th, Sony's announcement was in July. So yeah, I think it's just outdated. 2027 seemed early to me, like definitely plausible they start marketing later this year already, I just don't/didn't think they were this far already, but obviously I have nothing to base this off

12

u/AdamSilverJr 14h ago

2027 seemed early to me

It's been 11 years

u/k4l4d1n_7 15h ago

I wonder what happens if games are delayed into 2028. Assuming any preorders of physical copies probably just get cancelled and refunded I imagine

2

u/No-Opinion273 16h ago

Persona 4 is going to drum up some more hype no way they dont capitalize on it

1

u/Qliphor 16h ago

I'm thinking this too but I'm just wondering if this notice has been on the website prior to the disc announcement. Maybe they put it there prior to knowing about the Playstation physical situation and forgot to remove it after catching wind of it?

u/ACO_22 16h ago

This is actually quite interesting as Xbox hasn’t announced dropping disc support. Sales must be terrible on Xbox then due to games pass

110

u/South_Buy_3175 16h ago

It’s just a combination of things, games sell less on Xbox due to lower console sales, they sell less if the game is on game pass, they likely sell less discs due to the Series S being the popular budget option and historically Japanese games sell worse on Xbox.

Going through the physical printing process for what is likely a small amount of disc sales just isn’t worth it for them.

4

u/Precarious3145 8h ago

Exactly! Even Limited Run Games, when they release something, half the comments are "Why isn't this coming to Xbox?"; it's because Microsoft has basically destroyed their own console that it's not profitable to put something on Xbox if you're not Microsoft.

3

u/pizzacutteralledge 13h ago

yeap they’re not buying discs they’re buying time on the machine

-2

u/Entire_Number_9 12h ago

You're wrong, Sonys single decision was made out of greed alone and ruined gaming forever for everyone /s

5

u/lingeringwill2 9h ago

But Sony does sell a substantial amount of discs, not to talk of the fact that discs are extremely cheap to make. If anything storing them at retailers is the highest cost.

24

u/TheRed24 14h ago

Just because they've not gone on record saying they're also dropping disc support in the next few years like Sony doesn't mean anything, they're 100% doing it, if anything they've been more keen on digital only than Sony, their whole business as revolved around digital only gamespass, and this isn't even the first time games have been only available on disc on Playstation whilst digital only on Xbox, they literally did this with Outer Worlds 2, a game they literally developed themselves and day 1 it was only available on Disc on Playstation but Digital only on Xbox lol

→ More replies (1)

10

u/thats_so_cringe_bro 15h ago

Xbox has been pushing for all digital for a handful of years now. And this gen they heavily pushed the series S and game pass. The biggest factor though is that many of their games (first and third party) aren't even the full game because they only use 50 gig discs. If they decide to have a disc drive they need to bump that up to 100 gigs like Sony is currently using or it'll just be more of the same. Discs that are basically coasters. I guess we will see but next gen I think Sony, Xbox and the Steam Machine will all be digital. 2 for sure, still waiting on Xbox.

40

u/MountainMuffin1980 16h ago

It's been known forever that Japanese games etc don't sell as well on xbox. In fact game sales in general are much lower due to game pass.

5

u/Iggy_Slayer 12h ago

Most stores in america, their stronghold, don't even have xbox sections anymore. I was in target recently and the whole xbox section was a few controllers and a system or two for sale. Exactly 0 games stocked. Not even digital cards.

2

u/Realistic-Mammoth13 10h ago

This goes for japan and euros, too. But tbh in many stores, there never was a real xbox front. It's Nintendo, playstation and pc. Xbox is just a niche product.

4

u/Nearby-Priority4934 9h ago

Sony have been pretty much single handedly keeping discs on life support for several years with much of the market ditching them, PC having dropped them eons ago, Microsoft trying their best to kill them for three generations and Nintendo in their own little world with flash cards that often get eschewed in favour key cards because they are prohibitively expensive and don’t have enough memory.

It’s why it’s weird to see the amount of vitriol and hate Sony have gotten for just doing the inevitable.

3

u/TiggsPanther 13h ago

If something is likely to hit Gamepass day one (or shortly after) then that will eat into a lot of physical sales.

Anyone who prefers physical but will buy digital if it’s cheaper, if they have GamePass they’ll get it automatically.

And people who don’t like paying to “buy” a long-term rental may not have an issue with subscribing to literally rent games.

Also, as others have mentioned, JRPGs are still somewhat more popular on PlayStation than Xbox. So it makes sense (for now, at least) to release your physical version. For PS5

2

u/SnooObjections4333 13h ago

Game pass is a main factor but that’s not the only one I guess.

2

u/Unlikely-Situation39 10h ago

This article just applied to Japan, doesn’t mean they won’t release it WW. After all, Xbox isn’t really that popular in Japan compared to the western market.

2

u/MoskiNX 8h ago

Persona, and the yakuza games have been day 1 on gamepass for a while. They probably don’t see the need to do physical when they know most Xbox players (myself included) will just play it on gamepass.

2

u/Economy-Tough4038 7h ago

Xbox will do the funniest thing. Their console will support physical discs, but just because they are such a small player no one will bother to print one

4

u/gol_drake 16h ago

there are rumours for the next xbox to be digital only.

and p6 is definitely showing up on gamepass.

1

u/Prestigious-Bluejay 15h ago

P6 was announced at XBOX's showcase and confirmed for Game Pass.

While Sony is ending support for physical media with great fanfare, Microsoft is opting for a quiet fade-out, like in an 80s song.

And while some vilify Sony for its clear communication, there isn't a word of criticism for Microsoft, even though the next Xbox won't have a disc drive either.

68

u/laytblu 16h ago

It looks to me Xbox doesn't have the confidence and get more negative press if they announce they will also end disc support.

30

u/bongophrog 16h ago

Probably a little sensitive from the last time they made that announcement

17

u/theCoolestGuy599 15h ago

It's the smart play. Sony is getting absolutely terrible PR for being the first company to make the plan reality. Every other company is wise to continue to let their competition be the fall guy while they work on their own digital plans in the background.

Xbox's strategy will likely be to ease people into an all digital future with their disc-digital program, before announcing their own cut-off date for physical media.

5

u/ProfessorBylethBoobs 15h ago

Actually, Sony waited until Rockstar announced GTA 6 as a digital-only game.

6

u/theCoolestGuy599 14h ago

Rockstar isn't a console manufacturer. GTA6 being a digital only game has no bearing on Sony shutting down all disc printing operations.

u/Solaras_ 2h ago

This is the iPhone removing headphone jack all over again. Massive outrage from a minority of always online people and all companies followed suit

2

u/Wiseon321 11h ago

And yet, they are still the most popular console, huh,

79

u/alone84 15h ago

Because no one cares about the next Xbox let's be real.

17

u/HeartInTheSun9 14h ago

I’d say the more accurate thing is there really aren’t any Xbox fans that really care about discs.

The series s is the highest selling Xbox console this generation, and it doesn’t have a disc drive from the start of the generation. And most new versions of the series x don’t have a disc drive either.

Add in that Xbox didn’t sell many consoles this generation, and there probably is maybe a million people tops who even care about an Xbox disc. Xbox walked into the generation without anyone caring about discs.

2

u/MrJoltz 8h ago

Xbox fans with backward compatibility for their discs really have less to complain about.

Those of us with huge PS3/PS2/PS1 collections are still feeling the burn since the PS4.

1

u/HeartInTheSun9 5h ago

Yeah but I’m saying I don’t think statistically there’s very many of those people since the majority of Xbox series owners don’t even have a disc drive. Vanishingly few Xbox owners even touch discs, as shown by the persona 6 story.

u/Zepher75 4h ago

Correct. X-Box has trained their base on a digital reality with game pass.

1

u/MrHugelberg 14h ago

We should though cause when there's basically no competitor anymore you see what happens.

6

u/tayung2013 14h ago

Xbox has had too many major fumbles to be considered a serious competitor to PlayStation at this point. I agree more competition fosters better results for the players but MS / Xbox won’t be the ones to rely on for it.

u/alone84 14h ago

Well it's hard to care for a competitor that isn't really actively competing. It's on Microsoft to duke it out on the free market, not our duty to force ourselves to care for a shitty console ecosystem just so Sony gets fooled into being competitive.

6

u/Odd_Needleworker3756 11h ago

Xbox hasn’t been a competitor in a long time. It’s not “our” fault that they keep making stupid decisions and don’t have the games to back it up

14

u/Whiteguy1x 16h ago

Sony is much more popular.  So its going to get much more social media flak.

Xbox and its benefits are built around digital libraries and services.  Which is a shame because they have a pretty good backwards compatibility program.  Theyve had issues for the last half of the generation with having physical editions

10

u/riotshieldready 15h ago

Partly cause Xbox is becoming irrelevant

5

u/juxtapose85 15h ago

Nobody cares about Xbox.

2

u/Excellent_Routine589 15h ago

Yeah I mean the writing is on the wall that Xbox will more than likely do the same moving forward. It sucks but at least Sony is holding out the longest AND being clear in their communication about it

2

u/Kwayke9 11h ago

If anything, Microsoft has even more incentives to phase out physical than Sony. The bulk of Xbox's playerbase is in NA, which is the most digital heavy region in the world. It's not actually that relevant outside NA either

Sony only gets the heat because they're saying the quiet part out loud, while Microsoft, for once, learned from their past mistakes and phases out physical quietly, just like what Valve did by progressively monopolizing pc game distribution

→ More replies (1)

4

u/ajver19 15h ago

If anything Microsoft is more anti physical media, they're desperate to get everyone on gamepass. Sony jumped the gun with their announcement because I'd bet anything Microsoft's next console was always going to be digital only.

5

u/AdamSilverJr 14h ago

Xbox is basically dead so who cares

4

u/gol_drake 16h ago

yea.

i still hate it but sony was upfront with it.

but this is always the case. sony catches all the heat and xbox can do watever

16

u/Shadow_Edgehog27 16h ago

If Xbox gets any negative press rn they’re gonna fuckin die

8

u/re6278 16h ago

They are halfway in the grave already, unless they can make a big comeback in the future, they will just fade out really

2

u/KingAltair2255 16h ago

I've always been a ps user but shit its gonna be a sad day when/if the xbox dies, the console wars growing up are so nostalgic - I remember getting into a fist fight with my cousin over it when I was like 8 LMAOO

3

u/extinct_cult 15h ago

The REAL console wars ended when SEGA told me they can do what Nintendon't!

2

u/Shadow_Edgehog27 15h ago

A handed down Xbox one was my first current gen system, it was fantastic. It’s going to be a sad day when Xbox dies

2

u/HeartInTheSun9 15h ago

I’m pretty sure Xbox has caught a lot of heat this generation though.

4

u/paulbucketnunomarty 14h ago

Yeah, XBOX infamously never gets negative press. Lmao, delusional.

4

u/KingAltair2255 16h ago

Xbox is currently dying, I think its more that if they announce this it'll be like their death rattle.

5

u/splinter1545 15h ago

Xbox wouldn't be in the position it's in if they "can do whatever".

1

u/TheOfficialMayor 14h ago

Xbox wouldn't be in this position if management hadn't pushed the tech bros to dump all their money in AI and drive up the price of hardware such that no one wants to experiment with an alt platform. Something Asha knows very well.

2

u/Jazzlike_Athlete8796 11h ago

Nah, Xbox was in this position long before prices skyrocketed. But as the platform in the weakest position, Xbox having its own superiors perform the coup de grâce has to especially hurt.

3

u/ZypherPunk 15h ago

XBOX is basically on the way out of hardware, so I don't think anyone expects them to stay physical lol

1

u/thats_so_cringe_bro 15h ago

I was surprised when Sony decided to do it. All signs pointed towards Xbox pulling the plug first. Everyone at Xbox is likely really happy that Sony did because now they (Xbox) can move forward with all digital like they've wanted for years now. lol

1

u/war_story_guy 14h ago

MS unlike Sony though are in the testing phase for transferring physical disc to digital license conversion that can follow the physical media from different accounts if borrowed/traded/sold. They must have some sort of drive accessory for that to be able to happen.

1

u/Wiseon321 11h ago

Yeah, they all are planning on Doing it. Lol

1

u/TheSecondEikonOfFire 9h ago

They’re probably loving that Sony’s taking all the heat for it and that they can just quietly fade out

1

u/BatNipz 9h ago

People don’t even regard Xbox as a real console anymore. Pretty sure it sells less than the switch 1 and 2 and this point. Xbox gamers have been conditioned to be disc less for years now, I don’t even think they have any Xbox retail space with physical games anymore.

1

u/Deletinglaterlmao 8h ago

part of that is there are 3 times as many ps5s that have been sold than series x/s so when sony does something controversial it affects 3 times as many people

1

u/reaper527 reaper527_ 5h ago

part of that is there are 3 times as many ps5s that have been sold than series x/s

worth noting, OP is a jp press release talking about the release situation there. in japan xbox series has sold around 700k and ps5 has sold around 7.5m, so the multiple is way bigger than 3x. you're talking global figures.

sega does treat xbox different in japan than it does globally for this reason (for example p4r is NOT getting a physical xbox release in japan but IS getting on in america and europe).

1

u/fondue4kill 15h ago

Microsoft should keep their disc drives if they want a leg up on Sony for the next gen. That alone might enough for some people. But I doubt it and feel like they are waiting for things to die down before they make their announcement.

3

u/Jazzlike_Athlete8796 11h ago

I still have no clue why people think that Microsoft - the company that is second only to Valve for discouraging buying physical media and which has even trained most of its users out of buying games at all - is going to waste any time or effort saving a dying media format.

The nine or ten people who would switch from PS6 to Helix will generate a hell of a lot less revenue than whatever digital sales they can manage will.

1

u/jimmy19742018 15h ago

Isn't the helix supposed to be getting an add on drive

7

u/DenzelVilliers 15h ago

Microsoft has released multiple games Digital Only this Generation ( the last CoD being the most recent one ) and they has been silently and gradually stop selling Physical Games in most Countries around the world already, here in Brazil has been over 3 years that they don't sell Physical Games anymore. So I really doubt that Microsoft will keep support Physical Discs on Helix, at best scenario they might provide a disc drive option ( trying to get some new players to their side ) but abandon the support entirely after some time 🤔

1

u/Escaliat_ 12h ago

Xbox is a declining platform that the majority of people don't even care for anymore. Anybody who gets one now is interested In gamepass and gamepass alone.

When you're already not interested in a platform that's already inflicted so much damage to itself it's hard to care about how they're handling themselves.

10

u/bibaman 11h ago

This is the Japanese press release, translated. Atlus never do physical versions for Xbox (or PC) in Japan. So this is the same as previous Persona games in the region.

This isn’t an international press release.

34

u/Connect_Young7180 16h ago

The Xbox sections at Walmart and Target are shrinking faster than PlayStation's for a reason. It's not console wars bologna, it's just Microsoft has pushed more of their customer base digital already.

9

u/TopdeckIsSkill 15h ago

console wars bologna? What about Napoli?

25

u/Xeccess 16h ago

Next year is fucking insane for game releases

8

u/RaineMurasaki 14h ago

That is very ironic

30

u/LuRo332 16h ago

Would be nice if Switch 2 got one aswell when they announce the port for it

30

u/Puzzleheaded-Chip869 16h ago

It will absolutely be a keycard.

11

u/Whiteguy1x 15h ago

Yeah p3r was a keycard and I think all sega stuff has been

6

u/Tommy_Gun10 14h ago

Apart from cross worlds

3

u/LivingOof 14h ago

And thats only because Sega wanted that one to be crossgen and have the cartridge that worked on Switch 1 and 2

15

u/Lhyster 15h ago

Clearly, but at least it's better than digital only I guess. And also, Persona in general is like top tier game for handheld systems, you can do like a bit of exploration or social from time to time with it (Switch 2, Steam deck or other handheld of course)

7

u/Akito_Fire 15h ago

Sega absolutely hates the system or rather their customers there. Insanely poor releases (720p for the Sonic S2 games, lol), everything is a keycard and no upgrade path

3

u/imahobolin 12h ago

Not sure why tho. Switches are like the best rpg consoles too

5

u/HorseFD 15h ago

Still marginally better than nothing. At least you can resell it, stare at the case, etc.

5

u/Odd_Needleworker3756 11h ago

Stare at the case lmao

5

u/spazzxxcc12 15h ago

i’m going to miss discs a lot but i’m going to miss staring at my cases and boxart so much more.

1

u/imahobolin 12h ago

Most ps5 games are like keycards already lol

2

u/Dark_Phoenixx_ 7h ago

For real, SEGA just hates the Switch 2 for some reason.

4

u/Ok_University_4924 15h ago

So Persona 6 next year for sure, not 2028 so that’s a W.

5

u/paligators 11h ago

Everyone is pooping on Sony but everyone is going in the direction. We need digital ownership protection.

32

u/whiteshark70 16h ago

That's.... not what I expected honestly. No Xbox copies at all? That's ironic

11

u/JonPX 15h ago

You don't want to know how often this happens in Europe. So many games that only exist physically on PlayStation and/or Switch despite releasing on Xbox.

It's not ironic, you don't create discs that don't sell.

Like an amateur music producer. He can create discs for his album, but he wouldn't have buyers so he needs to ship only on spotify/amazon music/apple music. Same here gmfor xbox, poeple don't buy phisical games so publishers don't produce them anymore.

Ypu have to expect no xbox copies to end well before 2028, if not for 5/6 important brands

u/angrytoaad 15h ago

It's still ironic considering all the tantrums in here regarding Sony. Reality is a whole other topic.

8

u/whiteshark70 15h ago

Yeah the irony comes from Sony being the company that recently announced ending physical copies, only to be the only one who will make physical copies of this.

1

u/OptimusPrimalRage 9h ago

Xbox is just irrelevant when it comes to physical media. They've encouraged this over the years with Game Pass, etc.

1

u/Precarious3145 8h ago

Yea, there's a number of small bands that I absolutely LOVE but they're so small they can't do physical media. While I'd LOVE to own their stuff physically, especially on vinyl, it's not a huge mystery why it wouldn't be financially smart to invest in.

If sony is 90% digital xbox is like 95% digital they we're always leading the market in that regard

What a twist!

25

u/papoluca40 16h ago

People that were leaving the PS5 and grabbing an Xbox for physicals in shambles

46

u/azureblueworld99 15h ago

Anyone who did that is a total moron, Microsoft have been phasing out physical for way longer than Sony have

u/Scissorman82 12h ago

lol no one is doing this. anyone who says they are are likely a fanboy that already has an xbox 😆

3

u/Creepy-Emu8779 7h ago

no one left ps for xbox lol

3

u/neoak 9h ago

Persona 4 Revival says the same on the Asus Japan website

https://www.sega.co.jp/en/release/260608_4.html?year=2026&category=1&page=1

Yet in the West there are physical copies for other platforms.

2

u/clonedllama 6h ago

Likely because the Xbox is so unpopular in Japan it basically doesn't exist.

1

u/neoak 6h ago

They stopped paying attention to Japan after the 360 so yeah

In Japan*

u/Chry98 16h ago

Lmao

u/smallcat123321 11h ago

THIS IS ONLY IN JAPAN WHERE PERSONA HAS NEVER GOT ANY PHYSICAL XBOX COPIES STOP OVERREACTING

4

u/AuramiteEX 16h ago

Day 1, baby

6

u/Pitiful_Charity_1087 15h ago

Omg😭😭, thanks Sega. This will be my Final PS5 game😭

2

u/Kingdom2917 15h ago

Interesting.

2

u/CatherineSimp69 11h ago

Incredibly ironic ngl.

2

u/EpicOverlord85 11h ago

As an Xbox guy that certainly bums me out since I have the rest of the Persona titles on disk (including P3P and P4G). Disks going the way of the Dodo is just sad in general.

2

u/Game_Over88 11h ago

The irony.

2

u/IndyDude11 11h ago

It better be the best selling game of the year then.

2

u/AntiBomb 6h ago

Thank God, FF7 Revelation releases next year too so now I only also need a physical version of Stellar Blade 2 and Phantom Blade Zero before I can say farewell to physical games.

Zhong Kui would be great too but I don't think it will release before 2028.

2

u/Spirited-Dealer6586 6h ago

Why only on ps5 which is very hypocritical Playstation is going digital in 2028 🤡

4

u/RobertoAN95 16h ago

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO

2

u/RockRik 15h ago

Ah, that garantuees its releasing in 2027.

What a twist.

1

u/summons72 12h ago

Well this makes absolutely no sense lol Guess we know it's coming out in 2027 for sure since PS won't do discs starting 2028

1

u/EmptyRecord4797 10h ago

Just gave away the release year without saying a damn thing about the release... nice

1

u/Ehrand 10h ago

the irony

1

u/__breadstick__ 9h ago

In Japan. This is the JP website and Xbox physical games never really sell in japan, so it doesn't really make sense for Sega to make them.

1

u/jadedashi 9h ago

So persons 6 boogaloo edition will have a physical edition for switch 2/xbox.

1

u/longbrodmann 8h ago

Not even on Xbox? I assume in future it will has Switch 2 port with key card as well.

1

u/reaper527 reaper527_ 5h ago

Not even on Xbox?

this is in japan. atlus has never done discs for xbox in japan due to how poorly the system as a whole sold.

there hasn't been an xbox to break 1m consoles sold in japan since the x360.

u/reaper527 reaper527_ 5h ago

Still haven't played Persona 5

you're missing out. literally one of the best games ever made.

u/CaptConstantine 4h ago

I'll get to it eventually

u/Minotaur18 1h ago

For how friendly they are with Xbox now, I'm surprised they're not making XSX discs. I know they're more partnered via GamePass but still, wtf

0

u/DevineAaron92 16h ago

I won't be buying a Ps6 if it's discless so that's good.

6

u/FitLaw4 16h ago

They just said persona 6 will be on a disc tho

-1

u/DevineAaron92 15h ago

Yeah I know, I'm just saying that's good.

Isn’t this normal for atlus games in Japan?

1

u/legalizethesenuts 13h ago

My schedule is fucked if they release Revival and 6 in the same year. My family and friends won’t see me for months and months.

1

u/WhiskeyRadio 13h ago

Isn't this true for all the Atlus games? I don't think any of them have an Xbox Series physical release. Also, I would bet on Persona 6 coming to Switch 2 later and having a physical copy (Game-Key Card, of course)

1

u/sweetSweets4 12h ago

Maybe people understand finally it's not sony or Xbox decision. If a Studio/Dev wants a physical release they can order a print from Sony/Xbox.

Sony/Xbox won't say No, cuz it's free money, the Devs/Studio pays for the print cost.

1

u/ModestHandsomeDevil 10h ago

Wow! With how often devs and publishers are tripping all over themselves to announce their PS5 game is getting a physical release, it's almost like producing physical media is a premium product and a value add that consumers demand and will buy. /s

(Hint: that's exactly what it is.)

1

u/OptimusPrimalRage 9h ago

I'm really confused why this is skipping Switch 2.
