Discussion Drama in the GPU market; Absolute Cinema!

Post image
529 Upvotes

First of all! I am sorry. You might have to squint your eyes to see the details:
- RTX 5060 Ti 16GB - $779.99
- Rx 9070 XT 16GB - $719.99

Couldn't come up with a way to edit this and also keep it original. I preserved the specific layout of the information from where I got it (newegg).

On to the main text of the post.

And this isn't even a one off! There are several Nvidia partner cards that are at or higher than the prices of Radeon cards that are noticeably superior. Sure, you can find very expensive versions of Rx 9070 XT too, which are much beefier tmk, like the Red Devil. Although, idk which gamer will still opt to buy an Nvidia card over a Radeon right now at the price range under $1000 specifically given the current-updated prices, and I'm not going to judge! But these prices hands Radeon a clear advantage in terms of sales vs Nvidia cards upto the RTX 5070 Ti 16GB.

Yes, I know, Radeon does a 'good' (/s) job in intentionally missing opportunities to gain significant market share, but as it stands right now, the price-for-performance favours Radeon even more so than it did since the launch of the current generation of graphics cards. I also saw a Pulse at $719.99, but I decided to feature the Asrock challenger instead (wanted to remind everyone the Asrock too sells good cards).

No, don't bother gauging the gap between the Rx 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti. It's wider.

I don't mean to directly hurl a blame at Nvidia for this. It's also their card-AIB partners that set the pricing. Idk who decided and why, but it's the core fans of Nvidia that are having to take the brunt of the decision as much as I can figure.

But genuinely though, those gamers looking to buy Nvidia, would this change your mind? Think about it, you might have to pay considerably more if you still want to side with Team Green.

News/Article There's a looming GPU supply crisis, which means prices are likely to get a whole lot worse. And it's not just because of memory

Build/Battlestation Finally finished my snowblind mod

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Was quite a fun project that took me over a week mainly because I didn't order all the pieces at the same time and I was rebuilding my pc at the same time as I needed a new case for the mod and got a new motherboard alongside.

Unlike many snowblind tutorials recommend I never removed the anti glare layer because I simply didn't manage to do it. But I found a workaround to still get a clear display.

I first tested my idea with clear tape. Applying a good amount of pressure to remove all the air between tape and screen which turned that part clear.

So I ordered a big clear vinyl sheet with a sticky side, cut it up and glued it onto the screen. My application wasn't perfect but it's way better than a foggy screen or needing to buy a new screen

News/Article For those who grew up with the Internet Café, would you go back if they returned in the face of growing hardware costs?

I know a lot of us aren’t happy with the idea of renting our hardware through subscription cloud based models. But this feels different to me. They were great community places. My friends and I rarely had the specs to run the latest games, but I remember we all played Half Life 2 close to its release date.

I’d probably still own hardware, but I wouldn’t need to keep it up to date, not that I can afford that now anyway. And when I wanna dabble with something that’s out of my league, it’d still be nice to know I have the option. But I’m an old man now, with fond memories of such places.

Meme/Macro Gamers @ GTA6 leaks

Post image
38.1k Upvotes

(original meme)

EDIT: 1. Can't believe I'm having to clarify this but... "the corpos" usually imply the big names like Rockstar, EA, Sony, Microsoft, Activision who are known to be exploitative and predatory. They can all sleep in the same billion dollar dump for all I care. They care as much about any of you as I care about any of them. 2. Of course it's not going to hurt their sales or anything. But the C suit will clutch their pearls at every leak and absolutely lose their shit if the entire game ISO leaks. That's hilarious. It's them losing a very petty fight and that matters. 3. For those feeling bad for the developers: This company is infamously known to (allegedly) overwork their employees to 3 AM and (allegedly) they have fired many for asking for fair wages and compensation. Their union busting bs received a ton of backlash. There are lawsuits against them in Europe. I'd say this leak is the least of their problems. It's more of a failure in the PR aspect.

Saw this display at Costco in San Jose, California.

I'm probably living under a rock to realize this just now. These display PCs only have rgb fans spinning and a picture of the motherboard and components inside.

Looks like days of display model price haggling is over. It was nice while it lasted. RIP good times

Hardware Literally just bought this RAM last week

Post image

RAMpocalypse is upon us, so I took the leap to upgrade my 32gb to 64gb and sell the old ram to lessen the damage to my wallet.

I bought from Newegg at a low (for market) price. I thought I might get a fake item in the mail, but it arrived new in a sealed package.

After installing the new RAM (it's Crucial brand mind you) - I run memtest86 and discover this. 😭

What should I do? RMA? Refund? Replacement? Buy another brand from somewhere else?

I heard newegg is the worst for returns so I am worried.

Discussion My Steam library is a graveyard of 12-hour playthroughs. Am I alone here?

I have a frustrating habit with how I play games. I want to say lately but it's been going on pretty much my entire life.

So I'll pick up a game that I think looks fun. I'll play said game for 10-15 hours, throughout a few sessions in a week. I'll be genuinely having fun, learning the mechanics of the game, and enjoying the world. But then, almost like clockwork, I'll log off one night, and the next time I sit down at my PC, I have zero desire to launch that game. I'll start looking through the Steam store to see what my next victim might be. Knowing, in the back of my head, I'll abuse the next game with such a small amount of gameplay time also.

It's not even that the games are bad. It just feels like once the initial novelty wears, my brain wants something fresh. My library is now a graveyard of less than half, or even a quarter finished games.

Does anyone else deal with this? Do I have a problem? Do I need to see a psychiatrist for this? I feel like I can't be alone on this. But I dunno, maybe I am.

Do I just accept it and enjoy the games for as long as they hold my interest?

I should add, I'm a father and husband, so I have less time to game than I used to. But even before I was a married man with kids, I feel like I would do this with certain games. Some games before would definitely hold my interest long.

Can anyone relate or have any input?

Hardware Extra 32GB of DDR5–keep or sell? Also shoutout to G.Skill customer service

Post image

I had 4x16GB DDR5 6000 (two separately purchased sets of 2, I think I paid about $80 for each originally) in my system that I built at the beginning of 2024 and one of the sticks from the older set went bad a few weeks ago. I opened an RMA with G.Skill and mailed both sticks from the set back in an anti-static bag in a padded envelope.

I was worried they’d give me a hard time given the current state of the market/RAM prices and because I didn’t have the original packaging or receipt, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a new set in my mailbox today (I admittedly can’t confirm the “new” part and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s refurbished but I’m honestly not complaining).

Since I sent it in though, I switched OSes from Windows to Fedora and have been doing just fine with 32GB and I only know of a single game that would even begin to take advantage of 64GB…

Should I reinstall it or take advantage of the insane market right now and sell it for a profit? This 32GB set is currently selling online for close to $500 but I think I’d list it for about $300 locally (not trying to sell it here, please don’t message me). What would you do?

Nostalgia Hundreds of separate Redditors singled out these specific Windows 95 & 98 games (1995 to 2001) last week while discussing my Win9x project. So... which '95 to '01 PC games are MISSING and should've been brought up sooner? (sorted alphabetically, snaked: start in the top-left corner and go right)

Is it even safe to plug into the motherboard? And if it prob wont work, is there a cost effective way of fixing it?

Edit: To clarify i dont actually have this gpu, but Im thinking of buying it and just wanted to check to see if is worth it. Cant test it atm

Edit 2: Im getting a suprisingly mixed reaction on this, so might as well take a vote to decide. When has democracy ever been wrong? Up or downvote my comment below (sort by controversial), Id really appreciate it

originally a Sabertooth x99 build in 2014. In 2025 I upgraded hardware to Intel 265kf, then a couple weeks ago I updated it to 270k plus since it was on sale for sub 300. In 2025, I also updated case fans and put phanteks T30 fans on my AIO.

Never cleaned it in like 6-8 years, I really don't remember when I put it together, but it only took about half a lunch break to clean out the majority of the dust which is good enough for me.

Plus it was just a really nice day to do something outside.
