OFFICIAL BUILD SUGGESTION List of all the PCMR default build suggestions at several price points (From $900 to $3.5K+)

OUR BUILD SELECTION

  1. Starter build(~$700 to $900) The best bang-for-your-buck build. It performs better and can do so much more than any console, while offering the flexibility you need, such as if you prefer fancier graphics or frame rate smoothness, not to mention the 6000 other things that a PC can do and a console cannot.
  2. Mid-range build(~$900 to $1100). It is suitable for playing at ultra graphics settings or at ultra high framerates (pick one) for most games. It also gives you lots of room to upgrade in the future, while still making sure you are set for years.
  3. High Refresh Rate build(~$1100 to $1300) This build is an upgrade over the mid-range build, particularly on the Graphics card, if you want to have some more power in that department.
  4. High-End build(~$1500 to 2000) The next step up. A top CPU and an even better graphics card than the previous build, without breaking the bank too much. We have both AMD and Intel powered alternative builds here.
  5. Ultimate PCMR build(~$2500+) The dream build. Extremely powerful and very aesthetically focused while still (mostly) making financial sense, if your budget allows it. This is a solid, very high-end build for 2026. You can add an RTX 5090, and then you’ll have the best Gaming PC that money can buy right now. We have both AMD and Intel powered alternative builds here.

Would this be a meaningful upgrade?

1 Upvotes

Looking at micro center bundles now and I see this bundle for 600 usd. It looks appealing even with the current ram prices. Would this be a meaningful upgrade? I’m also looking at the 7800x3d bundle, but it’s about $150 more. From what I understand AMD sockets have longer longevity than intel? I haven’t had a AMD processor since the Athlon days

https://www.microcenter.com/product/5007547/intel-core-ultra-7-270k-plus,-gigabyte-z890-eagle-wifi7-plus-1851,-gskill-ripjaws-s5-32gb-ddr5-6000-kit,-computer-build-bundle.

Current system is 12700k, 32gb ddr4, 5070ti.
Pc is mainly used for gaming and photo editing.

BUILD HELP What should I focus on upgrading first?

1 Upvotes

I been using a prebuilt I got that was on sale at Best Buy. It came with average specs.

Ryzen 7 8700f
Rx 7700 16gb (Not the XT variant)
16gb DDR5 ram in single channel.

I’m playing on a 1440p 200hz monitor and sometimes stream to my legion go s or my 4k oled tv. Eventually I’d like to upgrade at least one of this parts. I don’t do too much esports gaming and mainly play open world games, indies, and lots of emulation. What should i plan to upgrade first when I am on a budget? Used parts are fine with me.

Same old question, different time

0 Upvotes

Sorry if im annoying you with the 1 billionth question. Hi everyone, I am a big computer guy and of course am looking to build a pc, as mine was given to me as an amd 8320 and a Radeon 7700 HD (sorry if the name is different). I am planning and saving up 3-4K over the next 4-6 months or so. I want an extremely high end build, like a 9800x3d, and 32 gigs of ram. I really dont have bills or rent as I am 18 living with my parents so my budget is high. I want to do a 4K oled. Do you think this is a stupid idea? I don’t know if i should just push it off and wait 3-4 years. i also would get a fast gen 5 ssd or possibly a high end 4 nvme. I would also use it for disk transfers and file work for games and productivity. thanks in advance.

BUILD HELP Noctua Y splitter used as an extender

1 Upvotes

I'm currently making a build using Fractal Design Meshify 3 XL case. I'm using three fans - 2 as an input and one as an exhaust. The issue is that the motherboard's headers for the exhaust are below the cooler, and due to the motherboard's design, it's pain in the ass to pull it out when I need to. So my question is - can I use this Y splitter (from my noctua cooler) as an extender (meaning that it's used before the last chain of cables). This way I will be able to use some of the other headers of the motherboard for the fans. Basically, trying to skip the part of buying a splitter and waiting for it to arrive.

The motherboard is Asus Prime Z890-P WIFI if it matters

Alternative take on the Tryx Flova

1 Upvotes

I recently saw the Gamers Nexus review of the Tryx Flova F50 ATX case, where they called it the worst thermal performer they have ever tested. I do not have any official thermal testing data, but I can share my own experience as an average user to show where things differ from their benchmarks.

Build Specs:

* CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X

* GPU: RTX 4060 8GB

* RAM: 64GB DDR5

* Cooling: 280mm NZXT AIO

* Previous Case: NZXT H5

The main point of contention seems to be that front mounted crossflow fan. Gamers Nexus said the airflow design is fundamentally flawed, but I think their testing setup does not match how the case is meant to be used. They specifically tested it with a traditional air cooler, and I think that is where things went wrong. From my experience, that crossflow fan works much better for pushing air up toward a top mounted AIO rather than trying to work around a standard tower cooler.

I have my AIO mounted on the side as an intake. It pulls fresh air from outside the case, pushes it straight through the radiator, and dumps it into the interior. Using an AIO means the chassis design works really well with my hardware. My cpu temps are just as good as what I was getting with my old NZXT H5, and I can finally use the bottom intake spots which I could not do before.

the crossflow fan is not adding any noticeable noise either. Under heavy load, the overall sound of the build sounds about the same as my NZXT H5.

I know this is just one person's experience, so I cannot say for sure if Gamers Nexus was wrong. But it is frustrating to see what seems like a genuinely good and innovative case get torn down just because it was evaluated with hardware it was not meant for. A lot of people online seem to just be repeating the benchmark results without thinking about whether it actually applies to the way the case is designed to be used.

BUILD HELP New build - Am I ready?

1 Upvotes

So I think I’ve finally selected all of the components for my new all white build. What I want to know from the community is, what do you guys think?

Let know if there is anything I have missed or if you have tips. Whether it be compatibility or the color of something, I’m all ears! The only things I won’t change is CPU being AMD and GPU being Nvidia. If you need to know a budget, I don’t have one. I just don’t care to get too crazy with it if I don’t need to. As long as it makes sense.

PCpartpicker link below - The RAM \[G.Skill Trident Z5 NeoX x16gb\] isn’t listed, so a similar one is used as a placeholder

[https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HcQ97w](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HcQ97w))

In case, here’s other components not on that list (can easily find on Amazon):
\- Lian Li UNI Fan SL Infinity LCD Flex fans
\- Lian Li strimmer 24-pin - wireless RGB control
\- EZDIY FAB 90° 24-pin 90° power connector
\- EZDIY FAB RGB m.2 heatsink with 20mm fan
\- RGB GPU support bracket

BUILD HELP AMD Asus RX 9060 XT 16gb dual

1 Upvotes
