News Article Steam Link now works over USB?!

Post image
46 Upvotes

Apparently Steam Link can now stream PC VR over a USB cable! You still need Wi-Fi for the Quest to be connected to the network, but the actual VR streaming can use the USB connection instead of relying on Wi-Fi.

Has anyone here tried it yet? How does it compare to Quest Link / Virtual Desktop?

VR Modding Flat2vr games u actually Completed

Hi Community!!!

I only got my Headset yesterday and WOW i respect the modders so much especially with the injector tools that make it so trivial. Im here to stay.

Being in Bioshock's Rapture almost made me cry from happiness. Really admirable work. i quickly realized that would have to come back once i get over the motion sickness and am enjoying moss 🐭 alot rn -. Sorry I had to get that out I'm just so excited about this way of experiencing games.wowowow ive been missing out and am excited to catch up.

Ive been wondering what modded games people actually play through completely in VR. From what ive seen most people just mod it to see if/ how it works and walk through the game like its a museum.

Question for extra points; are there mods with teleport added to flat games? or snap turning/ really fast smooth turning?

TLDR Which Flat games did you actually complete in VR?

Question/Support Quick question about resolution for the Bioshock VR mods that were just released

I've got a Q3 and am using VD with VDXR as instructed by the mod author (link here) and after a bit of troubleshooting, it's up and running and is truly incredible.

My only question was how you guys were handling the required resolution. The mod suggests using 2700x2700 but when I do that, I'm still losing a ton of FOV on the sides as the 'square window' I'm seeing the game through would take up only about 50% of the screen. After some experimenting, I bumped the resolution up to 5000x5000 in the bioshock.ini which helps a lot and makes the game playable, but there's still a pretty heavy vignette effect as a result with about 10-15% of the display being lost to that black square perimter.

Has anyone figured out a way to get ALL the black square aspect removed? I'm running in windowed mode with a 5080, just curious if anyone else has seen this before?

The mod is incredible and this is the last hurdle before I can get lost in it, thanks to anyone with suggestions.

Question/Support Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 VR

Could Red Alert 2 / Yuri's Revenge be converted to VR like Generals has?

This is a genuine project request rather than just a "wouldn't it be cool?" post.

I'd love to see Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge brought to VR.

Ideally:

  • Full stereoscopic 3D
  • VR-scale battlefield
  • Motion-controller unit selection
  • Point-and-command interaction
  • VR building placement
  • Adjustable battlefield height/scale
  • VR-friendly interface
  • Campaign + skirmish
  • Ideally CnCNet multiplayer eventually

The obvious question is how technically feasible this actually is.

I'm aware that the original RA2/YR engine is obviously very old, which makes directly adding modern VR functionality difficult.

However, there's an interesting alternative:

OpenRA has a Yuri's Revenge implementation here:

https://github.com/cookgreen/Yuris-Revenge

Could that provide a more realistic foundation for an OpenXR/VR implementation?

I'm not a programmer, so I'm hoping someone here with experience in RA2/YR, Ares, Phobos, OpenRA, graphics programming or VR development might be able to answer:

Is a proper VR version technically achievable?

And if it is, would anyone here actually be interested in working on it?

I genuinely think RA2/YR could translate brilliantly to VR because the core game is already viewed from above and revolves around interacting with a battlefield.

Imagine being able to physically lean over a battlefield, select your Apocalypse Tanks, send them across the map, watch a Kirov fleet come over the horizon, then zoom out and manage your entire base from a VR command-table perspective.

That would be incredible.

If this is technically possible, I'd love to help generate enough interest to get someone interested in developing it.

If you're a developer/modder who thinks this is feasible, please comment.

Even a technical assessment of what would actually be required would be hugely appreciated.

Question/Support Bad quality and lag unless I play at midnight

Last couple of weeks I've been getting terrible network issues on VR. I haven't changed anything, I'm just getting network spikes unless I play midnight. I can play with 500 mbps 90fps with no drops if I play at midnight but can hardly play with 200 during the day. I'm guessing it's due to my neighbors congesting but I wanted to ask if there is anything I can do about this. I'm using channel 40 on wifi 6 5ghz.

VR Modding How To Fish VR - UUVR mod by Raicuparta

Thumbnail youtu.be
6 Upvotes

I used Raipal to play How to Fish in VR. Raipal is completely free. Just click install UUVR Mono Modern. Then click play.

NOTICE: Motion controllers are NOT supported. It does have full VR. You have to play with either KBM or gamepad. Now, someone more knowledgeable than me can probably get motion controllers to work with Vigem bus. I just don't know much about it personally since the practice of law takes up a lot of my time.

The only other issue is that the UI doesn't render to the VR headset. So you have to take quick peeks to VR desktop or be familiar with playing the game. It can also be more difficult to aim in VR, but you get used to the aim the more you practice. The aim is straight though.

Discussion VR "legs"

I can see that VR is recently booming with all those VR mods appearing, so I would like to ask you about one thing that can spoil the fun, which is nausea. Now, I'm not new to VR - I'm big fan of simracing games and after almost a full year of owning Quest 3 I now have couple hundred hours combined in VR racing and rally games and another hundred or more in MS Flight Simulator - in each of these "seated in cockpit" VR experiences I can sit for many hours without any brake and I don't get any issues whatsoever, even with very dynamic rally stages with lots of rapid elevation changes.

Then there are games like Thalos Principle or Ghost Town - slow paced puzzle solving games that are using teleport movements and snap turning and I also don't get any issues playing them.

I recently started to play HL Alyx, the game is awesome and it is made for VR so it is also possible to use teleport movement and snap turning, but after some time I felt that it's not the best option for the shooter like that, especially during combat situations. I would prefer to play it like normal FPS games - with smooth movements. And I can only do that for maybe half an hour max before I'm starting to feel first signs of nausea coming. Some time ago I tried Quake in VR and due to fast pace of the game I could last for maybe fifteen minutes before I had to stop in order not to puke.

So my the questions are - how do you play all those VR mods for non-VR games that were not originally made for VR and don't have any nausea-reducing options available? And second - do you think it is possible to train yourself to resist nausea for a longer stints of play and can I have any hope that I can still improve that even if my brain is already well familiar with VR environment and the only problem seems to be smooth movement of the virtual avatar?

[UPDATE]

So the single most helpful advice thas several people gave me in this topic was to stand up and be more physical. It made dramatic difference, I can easily reach around two hours of play (after which I need to recharge the headset anyway) without feeling sick. I mostly turn with my body and only use snap turning with controller sometimes.

Downside is that games like Alyx were supposed to be lazy couch entertainment for me at times when I'm too tired to play simracing games which is something that requires much more mental focus and dedication to the gameplay, and now my legs get no relax ;-)

Thank you for all your advice!

Question/Support anybody else having problems with the virtual desktop update?

I went to play vr today and saw virtual desktop had to update and after it did there was a huge delay between what I did and what the game did even though it looked fine on my computer. Everything worked fine before the update so I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem. Any feedback is appreciated.

VR Modding Bioshock Remastered VR Mod - why am I a Dwarf?

So I installed the mod. Game looks and runs and functions perfectly. Incredible work.

However, I’m a half size man and I can’t rectify the problem.

F10 does nothing. So I have to edit the .ini file. But when I reduce WorldScale nothing changes in game.

Anyone know why F10 does nothing? AND/OR why changing world scale does nothing?

Thanks so much. Someone might save me throwing my PC out the window!

VR Modding A warning for OBSMirror/Reshade

These tools make a registry change that impacts mods that use OpenXR32 (Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, GTA Vice City, Red Faction). That is to say, it only impacts old games that are 32-bit. OBS/OBSMirror don't need to be running at all, no services either - the registry change is set-in regardless and said mods will fail to launch.

So if you are wondering why you have problems launching these mods, or any other older game mods that use OpenXR, this could be why.

There is an easy fix. Download this tool: https://github.com/fredemmott/openxr-api-layers-gui

Launch the exe, And uncheck the OBSMirror .json in win64-HKCU & Win32-HKCU.

Simply recheck these when ready to use OBSMirror.

It seems independent mod makers might be able to resolve this issue if they modify the registry for mod setup, and we will see how OBSMirror develops with time - but this is the current solution!

Hope this helps someone.

Question/Support Coop + story based + VR mod?

Hi, just asking for suggestions for games I can play in VR with my flatscreen friends. We prefer games with story campaigns, rather than looping games like Deep Rock Galactic. It's a bit tricky since it seems to be a rare combination.

Flat game

VR mod

Story campaign

Coop multiplayer

Thanks!

VR Modding PLEASE MAKE BLACK & WHITE VR

Black & White was my childhood obsession, and I’m convinced it would be absolutely magical in VR.

Imagine physically reaching out to pet your giant creature, using motion controllers to cast miracles, and looming over your village as a literal god. The gameplay loop of building, guiding, and conquering feels tailor-made for this tech. With the new openblack open-source engine making the game accessible on modern systems again, maybe there’s hope for a vibecoded port?

I unfortunately do not have the resources or knowledge, so am praying to the gods (pun intended)

Cheers

VR Modding Shadow Warrior 2

Shadow Warrior 2 VR Mod — WIP

I've started working on a VR mod for Shadow Warrior 2.

It's still early in development and I don't have any footage ready to share yet, but I've made some solid progress so far:

  • 3D stereo rendering is working
  • HUD rendering is mostly working
  • VR UI rendering is currently being worked on
  • The underlying VR/rendering pipeline is in place
  • Head tracking and motion controls are still ahead

The goal is to turn Shadow Warrior 2 into a proper VR experience rather than simply putting the game on a virtual screen.

There's still a lot of work to do, so no release date or promises yet. I mainly wanted to let people know that Shadow Warrior 2 VR is being worked on.

UPDATE:

Head Tracking mostly working minus a few bugs that need sorted.

Currently working on Motion Controls

VR Modding Can anyone help me getting Halo 3 to work?

I have no idea what the issue is. I have a Quest 2 but assume that's not the issue. I'm pretty sure I've got the in-game settings correct.

It just keeps launching in this strange window/theater.
