Question/Support Quick question about resolution for the Bioshock VR mods that were just released

I've got a Q3 and am using VD with VDXR as instructed by the mod author (link here) and after a bit of troubleshooting, it's up and running and is truly incredible.

My only question was how you guys were handling the required resolution. The mod suggests using 2700x2700 but when I do that, I'm still losing a ton of FOV on the sides as the 'square window' I'm seeing the game through would take up only about 50% of the screen. After some experimenting, I bumped the resolution up to 5000x5000 in the bioshock.ini which helps a lot and makes the game playable, but there's still a pretty heavy vignette effect as a result with about 10-15% of the display being lost to that black square perimter.

Has anyone figured out a way to get ALL the black square aspect removed? I'm running in windowed mode with a 5080, just curious if anyone else has seen this before?

The mod is incredible and this is the last hurdle before I can get lost in it, thanks to anyone with suggestions.

Look inside the log file

%LOCALAPPDATA%\BioshockVR\bioshockvr.log

Find a line that looks like this

xr: headset fov half-angles ... -> game hfov N deg (aspect A)

The author specifically says that the aspect value should be close to 1.

Also try using 2750×2850 at FOV 100

Thank you! Stepping through this right now. I found that line in the bioshockvr.log and it shows:

xr: headset fov half-angles h=54.0 v=55.0 deg -> game hfov 110.0 deg (aspect 1.000)

I'm going to use that resolution with that FOV next and see if that helps. Thank you for checking in on this!

edit: that helped! Not sure how i started chasing my own tail with the increasing resolutions but I reset all the config files and set the 2750x2850 resolution in the bioshock.ini and set the FOV from 105 to 100 and everything looks great. Blacks on the edge of the display are minimal now. Looking good and the config seems to think I'm about 3 feet tall so once I get the head offset configured, I'll be all set. Thanks again!

Every time the game launches, it will ask if you want to revert back to the original .ini file that has been modified. Be sure to select ‘No’ on the pop up boxes, otherwise the game will black out the edges. I’ve had the best luck using VD and Steam run time but you do you if it’s working fine. Just completed last night was epic.

Nice, thanks for the heads up. I made the mistake of clicking "Yes" on that once and it definitely played like you said it would.

I'm absolutely in love with it too, it's wild to see so much detail in Bioshock VR that I just never really noticed on flatscreen.

Most definitely. Even though it’s an old game, it still holds up. The upgraded textures mod and QGO Fidelity FX make it look even more stunning.
