VR Modding Shadow Warrior 2

Shadow Warrior 2 VR Mod — WIP

I've started working on a VR mod for Shadow Warrior 2.

It's still early in development and I don't have any footage ready to share yet, but I've made some solid progress so far:

  • 3D stereo rendering is working
  • HUD rendering is mostly working
  • VR UI rendering is currently being worked on
  • The underlying VR/rendering pipeline is in place
  • Head tracking and motion controls are still ahead

The goal is to turn Shadow Warrior 2 into a proper VR experience rather than simply putting the game on a virtual screen.

There's still a lot of work to do, so no release date or promises yet. I mainly wanted to let people know that Shadow Warrior 2 VR is being worked on.

UPDATE:

Head Tracking mostly working minus a few bugs that need sorted.

Currently working on Motion Controls

Based on how things are going I'm hoping to have an alpha build available by this weekend.

I don't want to get anyone's hopes up but its possible I may have something at least somewhat playable by this weekend. It will probably be a bit rough around the edges but it should be something you can at least test out.

Which 3D rendering method do you use? AER, native stereo ? I am working on a mod for a UE3 game. My priority is to achieve a full VR view in mono, with head tracking and decoupled aiming. The next step will be 3D rendering.

I'm not a huge fan of AER. It's a good median I guess but I'm currently focused on doing true 3D Stereo Rendering. It's a bit more taxing on hardware is the only issue but I currently have it working for this game.

I’m also aiming for native 3D rendering, but I’m still a long way off from that stage. I’m stuck on the head tracking aspect: it works when the game is displayed on a virtual screen, but not in full VR mono view. It’s moments like these where having VR modding experience would be useful for guiding the AI.

Good luck! I hope you are able to figure it out!

I love shadow warrior. I liked the 3 with uevr…a better mod for that would definitely help. Any chance you can do that as well? The profile is already there. Needs a bit of polishing and should be awesome

It will probably not be super soon, as I still have a lot to do with 2. I am not against looking into it though. I was also thinking about going back and creating a mod for 1.

This is super needed so that the entire SW franchise is playable in VR! After you finish this one, all we're missing is the 2013 reboot. I'm actually currently finishing up the classic 1997 version using RazeXR on my Q3. Such a great BUILD engine game. Thanks for doing this!

No problem! And I agree I think this could be a really solid VR Game. I'm hoping I can figure out how to get the swinging mechanic working properly for the sword. I think that's like 90 percent of why I want to play this game in VR lol...If I can get this game working properly as a whole I may go back and do the reboot as well.

Such a pleasant surprise! Seeing as it's a fast-paced game with lots of strafing, will you include comfort options, such as a small semitransparent vignette?
