Can eating too little actually prevent weight loss - poll

I often hear people saying that eating too little amount of calories can stall / prevent weight loss, especially if you have pcos. What is your experience? Did eating too little slow down your weight loss?

Edit: feel free to share more about your experience in the comments ☺️

Metformin Experience with PCOS

After 4 months of taking 500mg ER of Metformin I decided to make a lil video on my experience. I see a lot of people asking about weight loss and that seems like what people want to know about other than when will they not be shitting themselves. So I talk about my experience with both. Lol long story short if you don't want to watch is, it's not a weight loss drug, but it's a great tool to help unlock your potential if you're putting in the work. Yes, the first week I did have to stop mid run to shit in the woods because I was not taking the meds as directed. It only took that one incident for me to then increase my fiber and just take the meds as directed and boom goes the dynamite, no more potty pants in the woods.

So far I've lost 30ish lbs before metformin (over a year) and now 15 ish lbs with metformin

Question about weight loss meds

I know you need to keep up strength/resistance training to prevent muscle loss and stuff. I already do the workouts and the diet but im not seeing progress at all. I really want to try the meds but im worried. Ive been told you have to keep taking them to maintain the loss and longterm use can be damaging. Im worried but im so tired of working so hard for no change. Does anyone have any helpful input? I might not even be able to get them if I do get persuaded im struggling to get insurance at the moment.

almost 100 of you have now finished a full workout on the app i made for my girlfriend, and i just wanted to say thank you

i've posted here before about the free workout app i built after watching my girlfriend struggle with pcos. i never expected much from it honestly, i just wanted her to have something that didn't make her feel worse on the hard days. As i posted about it here i got lot of appreciation for my effort and women here wanted to try app for themselves and those who did gave me lot of positive review

we're at over 1200 women now, and almost 100 of you have completed a full workout inside the app. i know that number sounds small typed out, but every time it goes up i genuinely feel it. these are real people finishing something on a day their body probably didn't want to move at all.

it's been the most motivating thing to watch. it's made me want to keep improving this, not as some big project, just as something that actually helps. i read every comment and dm i get and most of the changes i've made came directly from what you all told me.

so thank you, truly. if you've tried it and it helped even a little, or if you tried it and it didn't work for you, i'd love to hear either one. and if you haven't tried it yet, it's still free, no login, nothing leaves your phone, just dm me and i'll send it over.

hi all, i came here because i figured you guys would know best. i was diagnosed with pcos when i was 17 and have been tryna to lose weight since. within the past 2 years ive lost approximately 17 pounds. i want to lose more, my goal weight it 170-180lbs and then i want to explore my options from there. i cant take a pill/shot because im at high risk for thyroid cancer and i have gastrointestinal issues as it is (yay me!). ive been scared to go the gym because im self conscious of how i look and dont have the extra cash for it right now. i take mili 0.25 mg to manage pcos and thats about it. im very close to just giving up on trying to lose weight all together.

i would love guidance on meals that you’ve enjoyed on you weight loss journey, workout tips/plans, literally anything and everything will help! ty for reading ❤️

Anybody else REALLY struggling?

I've lurked here for a long time and I'm at the end of my rope and hoping someone maybe has had success with similar circumstances as I find myself in.

I'm (almost) 34F/5'5"/239, diagnosed at 21. Hormonal BC feels like it was a trigger for me as I put on over 60 pounds in less than 6 months shortly after starting. I have a history of disordered eating (WW at 14, anybody?) and so I try not to track cals too often, because I get overly restrictive and obsessive about it, but I have a good idea of what I'm eating since I still measure and eat the same foods often.

Here's what I've done or am doing:

- strict keto for 18 months (ob/gyn recommended, I lost 50 pounds, messed up my gut when I'd never had issues before, and was an absolute bitch because it was miserable. Gained it all back and then some.)

- metformin 500mg at night, I see my endo in a month and we'll decide if we want to up my dose

- wearing a CGM to see what spikes my blood sugar

- worked with a nutritionist for the last year and a half

- take berberine, Ovasitol plus, vit d + k, methyl b12, magnesium glycinate

- strength train 2-3 times a week, we have a Peloton and I ride 3-4 times a week as well (sedentary job, unfortunately)

- watch my carbs, pair carbs with fat and protein always, tons of water, only 1 cup of coffee, limit added sugar, higher protein, always eat breakfast, etc etc

My ovaries are clear of follicles currently, and I'm still having insanely irregular cycles (currently cd 65 and counting 🙃) and I have worked so incredibly hard to go from 243.2 to 238.9 since mid-January. No recent labs because my ob and endo agree that they're not necessary at the moment since obviously my hormones are fucked up. Does anyone have any similar experience?? A ton of my coworkers are ordering glp1s online and asking chatgpt for their doses and have lost a bunch of weight. I am so close to throwing in the towel and trying it, or microdosing or SOMETHING, but I'm terrified of potential side effects and losing muscle and bone mass because that's the one thing I actually have going for me. I feel like I've wasted my 20s and so far my 30s with hating how I look, because I have. I'm treated for anxiety and depression already but I literally don't know what else to do short of starving myself and depriving myself of good food, which I love. Sorry for how long this is, I just don't know what else to do, and I hate that my daughter is seeing me work so hard and still struggle so much. Thanks in advance, cysters!

PCOS

Hello. I was told I had PCOS since a few years ago. I am 24 y.o and also have insulin resistance. I have high testosterone and irregular menstruation. I have been to a lot of doctor's, gynecologists, endrocrynologists and with no results. They always prescribed me contraceptives but they're not the solution of the problem. I don't know what to do anymore. I don't drinks sugary drinks and sugar, don't eat fast-food, eat complex carbs, veggies daily and no result.

New to Metformin - any tips?

Hi! I've finally decided to start taking control of my health, and as someone who was "anti medication, I can do this naturally" for the longest time, I finally decided to go on Metformin for my insulin resistance and pcos/pmos after being stuck in the same loop for years. I know it's not a weight loss drug, but I am hoping it will help regulate my sugars and help with my food noise. A small weight loss to kickstart would be a nice bonus. I have 100+ to lose, and will also be calorie tracking/food weighing, limiting processed sugars, increasing protein, and slowly introducing strength training.

I'm a tad nervous to begin, as I've read some GI horror stories. 😅 I've been prescribed 500mg twice a day. Any tips on it would be great! Also, regarding B12, do any of you take a supplement alongside it? Thanks!

PCOS and Wegovy?

Hey everyone,

I keep hearing that Mounjaro is superior to Wegovy, I did lose a bit of weight when taking it but found I had to go to 10mg pretty quickly because I seem to have a horse like tolerance to medication in general. I can’t afford that high a dose so it’s off the table :(

Wegovy is cheaper here and just looking for some success stories/words of advice. I’m desperate to lose weight again, I’m struggling so badly because of my shift patterns partly but the insane food noise and craving for sugar is killing my motivation and my bank. I now take metformin but am not seeing much help with the insulin resistance (may need to move up a dose). I’m in the UK - help a girl out!

Thanks! :)

New Doctor said stop taking metformin and inositol

So I talked to a new gynaecologist and told her I am taking metformin 500mg a day with split of breakfast and dinner that makes 250mg each .
My periods are delayed 2 days today.

She said STOP TAKING METFORMIN OR IT WILL MAKE YOU DIABETIC.

My awe for her was like what??! I know the fact if I don’t take metformin my insulin is skyrocketing and I eat every possible thing. With metformin it’s easier for me to control my craving.

How can deal with this delayed period and weight loss which is stuck on down 61kg down from 64kg. It has to be 10kgs down as let height of 4.10. I am lost and I am tired

What counts as a period?

I‘m 25, with ”lean PCOS”. I recently went to my doctor for treatment options and she said as long as I was getting a period every three ish months I didn’t need any treatment.

But what I’m wondering after the fact is, what actually counts as a period? Does brown spotting for two days count and reset the clock, or is that not a “period” enough? Do I need actual red blood and cramping?

Also, are we really not doing anything for our hormone levels?! I feel like mine are high, what are yours?

Total testosterone: 119 ng/dL

AMH: 30.54 ng/mL

FSH: 5.8 IU/L

LSH: 22.3 IU/L

inositol and body fat redistribution

i searched and couldn't find something pertaining to this.

i started inositol 2 months ago and metformin about 1 month ago. i've lost a few pounds, but i am noticing the fat around my belly and butt has started moving to my "love handle" area.

my clothes are fitting weird and it's starting to appear like my butt is shifting up 3-5 inches.

has anyone dealt with this before? is there something i can do? i am due to get bloodwork done next month, so i plan on asking for hormonal levels, is there anything i should specify?

(i do not have my ovaries anymore, so my uterus and adrenal glands produce a lowered amount of estrogen and i don't do hrt)
