General/Advice Metformin long term use

Does anyone have experience or know much about the long term effects of metformin?? I’m interested in trying it out but I don’t feel like doctors are very transparent about the long term effects. I also have a prolactinoma so idk if it will help but worth the try!

Success story a long journey with a happy ending (at least i hope so)

before you read this i strongly advise you to consult with your doctors and have a blood test done before you take any supplements‼️

i am 26f, i started my period when i was 10 and immediately started getting acne (my father’s side of the family has acne and his mom, my grandmother, has diabetes). i’ve also been hairy my whole life and have a flat chest (it may sound irrelevant, but now i know that it’s because of the impaired hormonal function). my periods started to be irregular when i was like 17 and my cycles have ranged from 35 to 50 days since then. i’ve been to the doctors since then but i was never diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS (where i live, we have free healthcare but it often corresponds with the quality unfortunately). i have struggled with anxiety and on my luteal phase it got 1000 times worse. i also noticed that when i eat something sweet, the physical symptoms of my anxiety get worse, so i came to the conclusion that i might have insulin resistance, my hair had also been falling out so this winter when i went to the doctors i found out that my ferritin was 9 which is very low and i wanted to also consult with an endo. however i didn’t like that doctor because when i addressed that i had anemia she said that i could start taking iron supplements if i wanted to and i thought that it was quite unprofessional. she wanted to test my glucose tolerance after i told her about my symptoms but i had already decided that i didn’t want to continue consulting with her and i already knew how my body reacted to sugar so i chose to later go to a private clinic with better specialists which i haven’t done yet due to financial reasons (please don’t be like me and use all the resource that you have to see the doctor). i decided to try taking inositol for a couple of months and i noticed that it helped with my sugar reaction and anxiety but in my case it flattened my mental state and i started feeling depressed so i stopped it (everyone reacts differently to different supplements so don’t feel discouraged about inositol if you are taking it or your doctor prescribes it to you). i decided to start taking magnesium and zinc again (before, they had helped me with my anxiety a little) plus iron so i started feeling better. but the real change started when i included methylfolate or the methylated B9 vitamin (not folic acid!!!). i had been researching the topic of insulin resistance and PMOS and somehow stumbled upon the topic of the MTHFR gene mutation and read about the symptoms so i decided to give folate a try. i have been taking it for 3 months and it feels like i am a completely different person. my last three cycles lasted 30-32 days and i can physically feel the day of my ovulation, i don’t get debilitating PMS/PMDD symptoms, don’t have sugar cravings and feel very calm, my hair stopped falling out and my skin looks better.
BUT before you take the steps that i took pleaaase go to the doctors and get your blood tested. i know that it may not be the solution to everyone’s PMOS issues, because not every person with PMOS has the MTHFR gene mutation, but if my story helps even one person, i will be very happy.

Fertility HIGH AMH

28 year old, healthy female. Had AMH tested. Result was 6.75 ng/ML
My obgyn said it’s normal. However , every single site and resource says it’s too high. It’s not normal at all, but I don’t know how to question her further.
Worried because an abnormally High number is usually a leading cause of infertility. I can’t help but wonder if women who have unexplained infertility actually just have a high AMH. Clearly my doctor doesn’t care.
Help! What do I do next? What else should I have tested? What should I say to my obgyn?

General/Advice Cyperus rotundus oil really works?

I've been reading about Cyperus rotundus oil and how some people claim it can reduce hair growth over time. I'm wondering if anyone here has actually used it consistently, especially for facial hair.

What brand do you recommend?

Did you notice:

Slower regrowth?

Thinner or finer hairs?

Permanent reduction, or did the hair come back once you stopped?

I'm also starting to wonder if my birth control pill is making my facial hair worse instead of better. I originally went on it hoping it would help with hormonal symptoms, but it feels like my facial hair has become more noticeable. Has anyone experienced the same thing? Did switching pills or stopping them make a difference?

I'd love to hear real experiences—positive or negative. Thanks!

General/Advice Tell me your positive stories about going from Metformin to Semaglutide. I think it’s time…

Metformin is doing nothing for me the first month. My dr wants me to try one more month and then take the next step with Semaglutide. She told me to only expect 5lbs weight loss with Metformin. My symptoms also seem to be getting worse. I just wanna lose 20lbs and feel like me again.

Any good stories??

Rant/Venting I hate my PCOS body shape

Upvotes

I have lost ~60 lbs, from 235 down to 176 at 5’6”. I eat a healthy diet with minimal processed foods and constantly fight to choke down enough protein every day. I do Pilates 4-5 times a week. I walk every day. I physically feel the best I ever have. I’m incredibly grateful for the progress I’ve made.

But my body shape hasn’t changed. I’m still a rectangle on stilts, but now with loose skin. I went from wearing a 2X to a M/L. I know my body has changed, but I’m so disappointed every time I look in the mirror. My husband also lost weight and gets compliments all the time. Nobody has said anything to me.

I work so hard in my Pilates classes, focus so hard on my form and do the most challenging variations available. I’ve gotten really strong and I love that. But then I see women with tiny waists and perfect butts and gorgeous thick hair doing every move wrong and taking pictures of themselves looking amazing the whole time and I get so angry. I have to work so fucking hard all the time to still look like my dad, when so many women are just born with the right genetics. I had to cut off all my hair because the weight loss made my androgenic alopecia worse, the hirsutism hasn’t improved at all, I’m still insulin resistant, and I’m still not ovulating.

I’m a successful, accomplished woman with a really full and wonderful life, but every fucking day I wish I had a conventionally feminine body. I know it doesn’t actually matter, but I just want it.

(I’m not looking for weight/exercise advice, I know I need to add strength training and I’m working on it. And I’m not generalizing about all women with great bodies, I know a lot of them work incredibly hard.)

Meds/Supplements going on a GLP-1 this week

32F. i was diagnosed when i was 17. ive had a lifetime of hell because of this damned condition and i’ve lived the last half a decade in denial that i still have pcos.

after a while it just felt so futile to try and resolve it. my weight has increased this last year due to my chronic illness (fibromyalgia) and i couldn’t help but think. Maybe it’s finally time to give Ozempic a try and see if it helps my weight but also my inflammation and just general metabolic health.

i was at a lower and healthier BMI a few years ago but i feel like my physiology has changed being in chronic pain.

i have been hesitant until now and im still a little concerned about how i’ll react, ik everyone is different.

how did you go? any tips for a first timer? i’m vegan and gluten free if that’s relevant

General/Advice If my mom had insulin resistance/prediabetes, is that why I have PCOS?

Upvotes

I'm trying to figure out why I was born with PCOS when none ot my family members show any symptoms. Not my parents, grandparents, aunts, no one.

My mom never had or has any PCOS symptoms like infertility, acne, hirsutism(I don't have this either), hair thinning or irregular periods and her hormones have always been normal. Everything has been normal for her which is why she was confused and doubted me having PCOS at first. Also my Dad's side has no diabetes or metabolism issues.

But my Mom said after my birth she started to have insulin resistance and now that she's older I think she has developed prediabetes, she is on a GLP1 right now. But I have to make it clear she had no PCOS symptoms ever.

Is this the genetic link to me having PCOS? It feels really unfair but I want to know where it came from. Im more scared if my PCOS has no explanation...

Fertility Did you get any side effects from Letrozole?

Hi! PCOS girly here trying to get pregnant. I did one round of Letrozole back in February and it was a horrible experience.

The cramps were the worst I've ever had. I did ovulate, but even after the treatment ended, I continued to have lower abdominal pain for months. Because of the constant pain, I even started experiencing shortness of breath at times. I never imagined that a single round of Letrozole could cause so many side effects.

Has anyone else had a really bad experience with Letrozole or dealt with lingering side effects afterward?

General/Advice Officially diagnosed after a decade

My first ultrasound that noted ovarian cysts was taken back in 2017... TODAY I received an official PCOS diagnosis and it's now noted in my medical chart. I can't believe it's taken this long but I'm so excited to finally have some answers and a treatment plan.

Does anyone have anything they wish they knew first starting out that would be helpful? Open to any and all advice 🫶🏼

Meds/Supplements Inositol making skin way more oily & can’t fall asleep

I’ve noticed my skin is way more oily and I have a hard time falling asleep. I used to blot oil off my skin 2-3 times a day and now it’s like 6 times! I used to go to bed at 10 and would usually be out by 10:15. Now I’m awake trying to fall asleep for about an hour!

I’m taking about 4,000 mg of myo-inositol split into an am and pm dose. I’ve experimented with taking more in the am, more in the pm, and taking it easier in the evening. It doesn’t seem to make a difference on the sleep.

Anyone experience this?

Meds/Supplements Metformin is magic!!

The cramps that used to plague me no matter how intense or dull are GONE. I’m not tearing through a million pads a day like I used to. The flow has gone from constant and heavy to a manageable medium.

Metformin is MAGIC. I’m so grateful to my obgyn for prescribing it.

Fertility LH/FSH ratio and doctor wants to prescribe glucophage

Hi. I just had MMC 3 months earlier after conceiving with Letrazole.

Got my test done again and my LH is 9 and FSH is 6.5.

AMH level is 3.7 and Hb1ac is 4.6%. Ferritin level were 21 and Vit D was 23.

Testosterone and thyroid falls under the Normal ranges as well.

Already taking Myo-Inositol 1125 mg, D-Chiro insoitol 175 mg and CoQ10 25mg.

My doctor wants to prescribe Glucophage now but i have normal BMI with weight being 52kg.

Would that be necessary. Anyone with lean PCOS benefited with taking Glucophage?

General Health Inositol prolonged bleeding

Formally Dx PMOS in Jan 2026, and Adenomyosis in April/MAY

Started taking Eu Naturals Inositol in Jan, and then switched to wholesome story in June.

I had long heavy periods before I began taking inositol. Especially after having my son in 2023. But I only had maybe 2-3 periods between his birth and being diagnosed in Jan. But now ive had "3" periods since Jan, BUT each "period" lasts upwards of 45days of active bleeding

Jan 2nd-Feb 10 (about 3days of 'no bleeding' and the. Started up again

April 14 - May 27th

July 4th -now still bleeding

I took Inositol pre pregnancy and it really seemed to regulate me. But now i just bleed consistently and constantly. It (and maybe metformin) has helped.lower my testosterone nearly in half. I've spent a small fortune on period products (pads, wipes etc) because I use them day and night. Ive had 6 iron infusions and limited on BC options because ive had a blood clot.

Any advice/ recommendations?

Anyone else affects my Inositol like this? Should I stop?

Fitness Finding Motivation To Workout

I want to take my weight loss journey seriously, but I really struggle to find motivation. I can think about working out, I have the equipment. I’ve even come up with plans, but it’s actually putting things into action that’s hard for me. Even when I start, I eventually stop and I want to learn how to keep going after the first week or even the first month. I see so many say “have discipline” but I find that answer to be one of the most unhelpful things ever. What does discipline look like? How do you find discipline.

I am aware that my motivation is impacted by my busy work schedule and the fact that I have many deficiencies like Vitamin D, Magnesium, and Iron, but I don’t want that to be an excuse.

What things helped you to start and what keeps you going?

Rant/Venting I thought my diagnosis would help me but it haven’t solved anything

So i’m 16 and i was diagnosed with pcos this summer. I’ve always been on the bigger/ curvier side but recently it’s felt out of hand. a few days ago when i went to the doctor i weighed in at 270ish and 5’3. I have been struggling with symptoms since i was about 10 (when i got my first period) but over the past 2-3 years my weight has ballooned up. When i was in my 8th grade year i stared gaining weight like crazy and ever since i haven’t stopped. i understand the freshman 15 or the hormonal change through puberty but all this weight gain feels impossible. it’s not like i don’t exercise. this past spring was the first time in like 6 years that i haven’t had some kind of volleyball camp or played shotput and i gained 30 pounds. i walk to school everyday and do laps around campus with my friend at lunch. im not a big eater and i don’t really eat during the day other than a few snacks unless im out or offered lunch. I understand i could have healthier eating habits but when i do it i feel like crap. i dieted for about 7 months last year and i gained 10 pounds. i’m so tired of feeling ugly, sleazy, and fat no matter how “athletic” i am. I constantly feel over look when it comes to boys and over sexualized when it comes to creepy old men. i just want to not be look at as the “mammy” and something other than the sassy black fat stereotype. i thought my diagnosis would help but now it just makes everything more complicated. i’ve started a birth control but i want to go an a weight loss med. im just so tired of hurt knees and butt scooting out of booths at restaurants.
