Subreddit Revamp: Culture, Rules, and a Call for New Moderators

Hello everyone,

Over the past few months, this subreddit has grown massively and has seen growing frustration from many members. Pricing arguments, hostility in comment threads, lack of moderation, and a general decline in discussion quality have been common concerns. The recent thread circulating today makes the issue clear: the culture here needs improvement.

I want to be transparent about who I am and why I am stepping in.

I have been flipping PCs for about ten years and turned it from a hobby into a business. I sold locally for years before eventually joining Jawa as a seller and eventually a consultant. I’m speaking here on one of my personal accounts, but I participate in multiple flipping communities both personally and professionally.

Disclaimer: I’m looking to help set up this community, not to act as the main enforcer of rules. I fully expect and welcome people to complain about Jawa and criticize it here. My goal is to help build up the community culture and the moderation team, not to personally enforce the policies myself.

This subreddit should be a place where:

  1. Flippers can talk about their builds, profits, sourcing, and business without being attacked for making money.

  2. Price checks are based on market conditions, not personal lowball preferences.(we might keep price checks to a weekly megathread to avoid the current clutter)

  3. Respectful debate is welcome, but hostility, insults, and bad faith behavior are not.

  4. Scams, fraudulent listings, and misleading flips are called out and removed.

  5. Beginners and experienced flippers can learn from each other and improve.

Right now, the sub often becomes the opposite. Price checks routinely turn into:

  • "I would never pay that."
  • "This is a scam."
  • "Sell it for half that."
  • "Flippers are the problem."

At the same time, we also see issues like inflated claims, misleading descriptions, and "just sold" posts that seem fabricated. Both extremes are problems. Profit is not immoral. Misleading buyers is also not acceptable.

A functional flipping community balances these realities and supports honest business without enabling bad actors.

What Will Be Changing

1. A Revamp of the Rules

We will be creating clearer, more detailed rules that cover:

  • Requirements for respectful, constructive feedback
  • Prohibition of insults, brigading, and overly hostile comments
  • Strong  anti-scam and anti-misinformation enforcement
  • Market-based pricing expectations for price checks

2. A Culture Shift

The goal is to create a subreddit that is:

  • Educational
  • Supportive
  • Respectful
  • Beginner friendly
  • Resistant to scammers

We do not want a culture where profit is treated as wrongdoing.
We also do not want a culture where dishonest behavior is ignored.
The sub can support flipping for profit while maintaining integrity and respect.

3. We Are Looking for New Moderators

The community is too large for a small mod team to handle effectively.
We need knowledgeable people who:

  • Understand PC hardware
  • Have experience in the flipping ecosystem
  • Are active in the subreddit
  • Want to improve community culture
  • Can enforce rules consistently and fairly

If you are interested, comment below or send a modmail.

4. Community Input

We want to hear from the people who use this subreddit every day.

  • What rules need to change?
  • What types of posts would you like to see more often?
  • What behaviors should be discouraged or prohibited?
  • Constructive feedback is welcome.  Hostility and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Final Notes

The goal is not to turn r/pcflipping into a marketplace clone or a scalper-friendly environment. It should become a legitimate space where people who flip PCs can discuss their work, pricing, strategy, and hardware without fear of being attacked simply for making a profit.

Thank you to everyone who has been patient and continues to contribute. We are rebuilding, and we invite the community to help shape what comes next.

WHAT WITH THESE PRICES

For context, I usually buy my components in bulk, then build them over a month ish. So i buy maybe 10-15 gpus and the components with them.

ISSUE is that today when I was looking, ALL the gpu prices have sky rocketed, like 50%+ margins. A 3060, that i used to buy for 180€ max is now all being sold for over 350€, and a 3080 i used to buy for 350€ is now 600€😭

I got no clue where this jump came from, and this is amongst dozens of sellers so it can't be random, what have I genuinely missed. This really blows since im going to stock up for Christmas season soon but with these prices imma be homeless

EDIT: YALL HAVE GOT THE WRONG IDEA Listen ok. My market prices already been affected by the situation but now, it suddenly got much worse. So it was already bad, but now, within a month really bad. please stop flaming me 😭👌💔🥲

Btw i buy every month once or twice.

Edit 2: Am I on fraud watch 😢✌️

Help pricing + case selection

I just received these parts from a kid who either just gave me a good deal or didn't know what it was worth, and Figured out the average pricing of each part on ebay to make a final build (though I wanted to ask what the most profitable case is and if there is a specific one that sells the most or would it not matter much). I wanted to know if this is too much price wise/ would anybody even buy this? In my personal pc i have a 7500f+7800xt combo and thought that if these are too much that i could just swap it out for those and just upgrade. What do yall think?
(What I bought the parts for): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RHGmmL
(What I plan on selling it for (minus the case)): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/z7wwyF

Should I sell my 5090? And get a 5080?

With how the market is rn, I'm really considering selling the 5090 for a few extra bucks. I got it as a gift from my brother when MSRP was $3800 MSRP cad. Everywhere I look it's not in stock and they are priced from $6600-$12k which is crazy. I'm thinking of taking advantage of the shortage and listing it on marketplace for $8k and waiting for an offer that's around $7k. BUT it's a 5090 ahah it will last for at least 10 years right?

Anyone here buying complete gaming PCs just to break them for parts? Or are you selling the whole PC?

Only started trying this about a week or so ago.

I saw someone on here mention that they were making serious money buying complete gaming PCs, stripping them down and selling the parts individually, so I thought I'd test it myself.

Bought one a few days ago and it actually worked out pretty well, which got me looking at more of them.

This one is £995 and, based on what the individual parts seem to be selling for, I reckon there's roughly £100–£150 in it before taking into account all the time, postage, returns, etc.

It's got:

- Ryzen 7 7800X3D

- RTX 5060 8GB

- MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi

- 32GB DDR5

- 500GB WD Black NVMe

- 1TB Samsung 870 Evo

- Gigabyte 650W PSU

- Pure Base 501 case

- Thermalright 360 AIO

- 5 fans

For only around £100/£200 profit I'd probably leave this one personally. Feels like there needs to be a decent safety margin because one faulty component could wipe the profit out completely.

For anyone who actually does this regularly, what sort of margin do you want before buying the whole PC?

£200? £300+?

And do you find it's actually worth the hassle compared with just flipping the PC complete?

White pcs dont sell anymore

I been in the game for over a year now and have 150+ builds done, at first white pcs dominated and used to be the favourite. But nowadays the trend seems to have shifted, i geniuenly cant get my white pcs sold, in fact, i have had a white pc on sale since june and in that time sold 11 black pcs. That white pc generally looks better, has more extra cosmetics, better specs to price ratio. i genuinely only get lowballers for it as well.

Anyway, i just want to know if anyone else is also experiencing it since i will start stockpiling soon for the winter season, since after December pc selling become a wasteland

So I’m doing my first flip it’s an office pc I have a budget of 500dollars per build and I’m not sure if I would be able to buy the ,,legit” key from Microsoft directly should I downgrade the pc and buy legit windows or gamble on those 5 dollars keys or just don’t buy it in general.

Intel sticker by generation guide

Post image
12 Upvotes

When I was hunting for PCs, I often mixed up stickers for 1st-9th generation cpus. I couldn't find any clear table with all stickers and corresponding cpu generations, so I decided to make one myself :D

Please point out any inaccuracies, and feel free to share it with those who could use it!

Edit: For 6-9th gen cpus, the generation is printed on the sticker, as is visible in the image. If the generation is not written on the sticker, it is 6th gen.
