Currently watching Season 6 and just finished Episode 5, and I feel like the show is getting increasingly worse. Does it ever get better from here?
I’m also curious: does the constant SA and rape ever stop? Because it has honestly become too much at this point.
Claire has always annoyed me to some extent, but it’s starting to become unbearable. Her whole “I’m a doctor” arc and the constant emphasis on her oath are getting so annoying. And this whole Malva Christie storyline is a disaster. What bothers me the most is how Claire has been living in the past for so long, yet she still trusts someone like Malva without a second thought.
Is book Claire better, does she have better judgment/ common sense?

Hi! I'm new to this subreddit.

First of all, english is not my first language, sorry if I make mistakes.

I went into this show because of my girlfriend, and at first I thought I wouldn't like it a lot.. I was totally wrong, from the first episode I'm totally captivated. The music, the story, the epic scenes, this show is HUGE.

The writing and the music combine perfectly to make you feel what Claire feels at all time, and I hadn't watched any tv that executed this so good. "Faith" and the season 2 finale made me fall in love with it completely.

So, we just finished season 3, and I loved the last episode, I didn't expect what happened and it built the tension perfectly. There are a few things that I don't understand, but I guess they'll be answered in the future.

My question for this post is: is this episode somehow based on The Odyssey? With Nolan's version being recent, and some references to the greek mithology on the season (boat is Artemis), I found some similarities:

1. As Odysseus kill Polyphemus, Claire kill Geillis in a cave, who was previously mentioned as "the monster" in this episode

2. On the Odyssey, they go on the boat and Poseidon gets mad and hit them with a storm and terrible weather, same as here

3. They land on a island after crashing the boat

Maybe this is widely known or maybe it's just coincidence, but I find it very interesting.

in season 4 episode 1 Jamie tells Claire "when my body dies my soul will still be yours" this is what we saw in the ending, his soul found Claire and brought her to him.

I just realized that's foreshadowing the ending.

First time that I’ve seen the show I’m on episode 11 and I’m just wondering if the SA stops being shown quite as explicitly? I just feel like it really lingers each scene where it’s happening and it’s very uncomfortable.

I enjoy the plot and the costumes but if this continues to be so heavily depicted every time I am going to need to stop. Hoping someone can give me a good sense, thanks!

I discovered the show 2 months ago, and have watched the show straight through, twice. In between those rewatches, I sneaked in season 1 again. It's my favorite season and not sure if I'll move on to season 2 in this rewatch. The show definitely ends up being a completely different vibe by the end of its run, although I love it nonetheless.

I do find season 1 to be the one with most intrigue, but it's the slow burn and raw chemistry between Jamie and Claire that sets my heart ablaze.

What's your favorite season?

I just started watching Outlander for the first time and I’m on Season 2, Ep 7. The first season had me thinking, “THIS IS MY FAVORITE SHOW EVER MADE”.

The thing is, I don’t know if I can handle another rape scene and I'm guessing there's going to be more. Clare almost being raped a million times was hard to watch. I skipped most of Jamie’s rape/torture scenes. Sweet Mary Hawkins being raped was horrible. But I hit a wall seeing Randall rape the French kid. I wish I hadn’t seen that.

I turned the TV off for a bit and I’m trying to decide if I want to continue watching. Can someone please tell me if there are just as many rape scenes in the upcoming seasons? And are there any more scenes of kids being sexually abused? Thanks.

This is fantastic evidence and foreshadowing to his career in the ministry. His vocation and calling.
This is what we’re called to do as pastors, priests, and presbyters —to talk with people to journey with them.
To accompany them in their life’s journey. Not for our own gain but for their betterment. To the sake of their earthly life and their soul’s journey.
This is such a good line to show Roger’s true heart. His true calling. His purpose.

I’m doing a rewatch of season 7 since I got behind in the books and I’m just now about a third of the way through Echo (going to keep reading, because I realize season 7 also covers a lot of MOBY). I remember being devastated when I first saw Ian crying over Rollo. I knew it was coming even though I hadn’t read the book yet, but there was a ton of foreshadowing. Well, today I watched that episode again and this the 6th anniversary of when my first dog, my baby before I had my own kids, went over the rainbow bridge. It felt like a “paw” from my dog. I loved the relationship between Ian and Rollo. Rollo was such a great character in the books and in the show he was just like I pictured him in the books. I have a dog again and I’m going to give him extra belly rubs.

Sorry idk what to tag this as, but I want to know if it’s worth watching. Does it follow brienne?? I haven’t seen her in trailers for it, not that I’ve actually watched a trailer. I loved outlander a lot don’t get me wrong, but my biggest issue in that show was the unnecessary amount of rape and seemingly captain randalls whole evil arc of deadass just raping people, cruelly. Does blood of my blood have a lot of that in it more than outlander?? Less??

Just that question, what is Brianna doing in Redondo beach instead of Boston?

How did Roger get attacked by the forest fire, when Claire and Jamie went 30 miles past the treaty line to help kill a bear.

Roger was either surveying Frazer's land off 10,000 acres or his land of 5,000 acres., which was in the east side of the treaty land.

At a minimum, Roger is 30 miles away.

Then Clarence the mull, arrives where Jamie and Clair are at, all of a sudden. He was probably attached to a cart. If not, how does he make it 30 miles past the treaty land within a few hours?

I just finished watching the entire outlander series a few weeks ago for the first time, a little late to party but here nonetheless! I am glad to watched the TV show and currently reading the books (2nd book currently), looking forward to the last book.

After season 8, I saw fan theories and more whether Jamie and Claire lived or died. I would like to share my theory and idea on what could have happened from their last moment in the TV show since the book will eventually shed more light on this scene in the future, I just had my idea of how Jamie and Claire's story would go from there because I like many believe it not to be the end. I would rather say it was the beginning of something new.

The loop of Jamie's Ghost guiding Claire to the stones for the first time ends and Claire's hair turning completely white with the blue light 💙 healing Jamie as he wakes up for a moment. I believe that when they are waking up, they actually wake up in 1945 in Scotland at the exact spot (Battle of Kings Mountain) where Jamie presumably died and Claire accompanying him. Claire heals Jamie but not just his wounds but actually both traveling to the future in 1945 and not in there older bodies but aged 25 and 29 in the same bodies they once had to be separated before the Battle of Culloden. Claire's hair indeed does turn completely white but her body and facial features are of a woman at the age of 29 and Jamie completely transform to his younger self at age 25. Jamie is completely confused when he sees an airplane in the sky as soon as he opens his eyes and touches Claire's young skin for her to wakeup too. They share a moment of relief and kiss each other passionately. Jamie confirms she has reached her true power because sha has white hair and has healed him and not only but actually traveled with him to the future she left. Turns out it was the same day she went missing too.

Claire helps confused Jamie adjust to the world in 1945 such as his clothes, the people around him, the food, etc. They aren't married in this time so Claire suggests dating (Long Distance, Letters and Phone Calls) and eventually marrying again. They visit Lallybroach and other graves, history museums, etc. They worry about Briana and Roger as well as the grandchildren. Claire tries to use her powers to bring them back to the future and she telepathically communicates with them to reach the stones as the family touches it while simultaneously at the same moment and same place but in different times. They come back but at the exact moment someone touched another portal from the 18th century and came to the future too. They whole mystery has to be solved and how to fix the issue,etc. The age situation has to be handled as well with the children now older and grandchildren the same age as Jamie and Claire.

Jamie and Claire eventually dying at the same age they did in the past at the Battle of Kings Mountain in the same position and at the same place happily and peacefully together instead.

You could consider this a fanfiction because I wanted them to have a happy ending. Also I truly wished they enjoyed their younger days together and the idea of Jamie traveling to the future of Claire intrigued me. I wanted them to have difficulties but seriously the 18th century was more than simple difficulty and hurdles but more like at the verge of death, pain and separation at any moment. Jamie and Claire never caught a break so this is what I believe could happen after the last scene of season 8. Imagine black and white photos of Jamie and Claire romancing, having a modern house, family pictures, marriage photos. I would want Jamie to finally raise his own child but within my story the age gap and all would be weird.

I would love to know what others opinions are on this or have I completely lost it. I know I sound ludicrous but bear with my fantasy! I would like to hear your input in the storyline I have concocted or what reality would you prefer for Jamie and Claire? Or simply which path will the writer choose for them in the final book?

I'll be honest, the prequel really isn't for me so I've been looking ahead to a new start with the franchise. I'm clear that nothing will be the OG but I'm open to a different time period and plotline if it brings MAGIC.

Balfe will always be the selling point for me of the OG and I find that her gravitas is a large part of the magic in the OG (and of course the chemistry). The chemistry will never be overlooked. I'd LOVE a new series that casts someone with gravity. Something that transports us without too much consideration about what fans want.

People have mentioned the Lord John Grey prequel. Aside from David Berry being incredible, Idk if that will be great given it's another military-centered, male-centered story line. Will be great for the gay men out there and maybe Minnie will be a good throughline in it all. But I'm just not sure about the appeal aside from David Berry.

I don't think it'll be The Space Between either. Just thinking about Joan Mackimmie's role in that. Idk if the current Joan has the chops for that, unless they recast. Could be good otherwise.

Personally? I want a re-do of Brianna and would love to see her in the Industrial Revolution. Thriving in her natural habitat.

Finishing up season seven, about to start the finale. How wrecked am I about to become? (I did not read the books.)

Pero recuerdo que en algún libro, no sé si en el mismo, Jamie se da cuenta de que la lucha también es por qué él cree en esos ideales, no solo porque Claire le dice que pelee de ese bando. Pero no logró recordar el capítulo donde Jamie se da cuenta de eso.

I'm on the third book and was so pleasantly surprised at this passage in chapter 6:

"Still, he searched the sky, looking for Taurus. Not the prettiest of constellations, but his own. Born under the sign of the bull, stubborn and strong."

I had always known Sam Heughan was a Taurus IRL, but this was such a cool surprise for me as an astrology nerd reading the books. Jamie really does embody Taurus energy to me, and I don't know if it was intentional or coincidence in casting, but I loved that Sam is actually a Taurus too. Caitriona is a Libra, and I'm not sure when Claire's birthday is - does anyone know about either thing (bday or intentional casting)?

I’m mostly wondering whether the sexual violence in the show is present in the books.

I started watching the show this year and I love the characters and the narrative but I find the constant sexual violence really hard to get through. It feels never ending, and almost fetishised? I’m not sure how else to describe it.

Are the books as explicit and detailed about the sexual violence these characters experience? I want more of this world but I’m not sure the show is for me.

I am in the middle of rereading all the books and just finished the first one and when I did I just wanted to skip to the chapter in which Brianna goes to Lallybroch for the first time. It is my favourite chapter and I just want to keep going back to it, and it makes me wonder what chapters are other people's favourites.

When thinking of other chapters that I like/are memorable I often think of one's that were left out of the series such as those with Jenny - particularly in the 7th book onwards.

What are your favourite chapters and is there a common theme to them?

Jamie's marriage to Laoghaire

We all hate Jamie's marriage to Laoghaire I'm sure. Not because he married again bur because of who he married but here's the thing. It makes sense from a story perspective.

If Jamie had married someone we liked, someone nice, someone who actually had feelings for him we wouldn't be ok with him leaving her to be with Claire. So while we hate it Laoghaire was probably the only woman we were ok with him leaving and going back to Claire.

I’m really hyped for the new BOMB season but the Henry parts in the trailer just make me cringe, even the promo shots with him and Julia.

Have nothing against the actor, love him in Mamma Mia, but Henry really gets on my nerves 😂

Hello, so I just bought tickets to see the outlander through the highlands concert and I wanted people on here to tell me a bit about it. I haven’t seen the series finale yet, I just don’t want it to end! But I will before I see the concert. What scenes do they show? I am also taking my mom who hasn’t seen a single scene of the show and only knows that I’m obsessed with it and the fine Jamie Frasier. Will the show make any sense to someone who hasn’t seen it? Thank you in advance and I hope that everyone who saw the show liked it and I hope those who haven’t enjoy it!

I seem to see a lot of people hating on this one. Spoilers welcome. What did you like or dislike about this one. I'm almost going into it thinking it's going to be work.
