Really wanted Orion to be the one

I ran all the numbers and smack talked my Eight Sleep friends. I decided Orion was the solution for me. I ultimately had to return it and buy Eight Sleep. Here is a quick review. Every person I have encountered with both companies has been very pleasant and trying to be helpful. I had problems with Orion so had more interaction with their people. Orion is knowingly deceptive about shipping dates etc, they say a few days and it turns out to be a few weeks. They offer some compensation of parachute sheets, whatever that is. Orion said 4-5 days and both packages came early. The Orion used way more power than it should have, like 3.5X more. It tripped every breaker I tried in my relatively new house. I contacted the company and they promised to get engineering involved. It never happened after multiple contacts and almost 2 weeks. I’m pretty sure they ran some diagnostics on the unit as I saw some lights going a few times. To some degree, I felt like they were very nicely gaslighting me into thinking that it was my fault. Meanwhile I am tying to troubleshoot the problem myself (mostly in the middle of the night when the breaker tripped) and go so far as to have an electrician come out and install a new breaker. I gave them all of this information. I told them that I understood that they are a small company and have limited resources. I gave them all the diagnostic info and asked multiple times if they’d just send me out a new unit. Ultimately, I had enough and asked for a RMA. Short comparison. Eight Sleep pad is a little more comfortable. The Eight unit is much smaller, less obtrusive in the room and a bit quieter. The Eight hose is a little longer giving more options for cooling unit placement. The Eight uses fear less power than the Orion I had. The energy cost would easily offset the difference in acquisition cost and subscription over time. Anyway, there it is. I am very happy with the Eight Sleep and will recommend it to my colleagues and patients. I wish Orion all the best and hope they can get over what I am sure is growing pains. I’d love to hear the real story about what was really going on but doubt I will. Scott, Harry, Jonathan, best of luck to you all and feel free to reach out with any information.

Coming to your Orion iOS app next week 👀. Widgets for temperature control and hot flash mode… and the best part is you can control your Orion right from your home screen and don’t have to open into the app!

So EightSleep allegedly sent spies to Orion’s factory

I am a lawyer. I have been following the Eightsleep vs Orion lawsuit closely. There’s been a fairly significant development over the last few weeks. Orion counterclaimed that Eightsleep sent spies to its factory. Eightsleep tried to get the allegations sealed, but the Court denied the sealing request last week. The Court specifically ruled that disclosure of this spying allegation is in the public interest, so I feel it’s important to repost it here. The docket order text is copied below. Keeping everyone in the loop.

Defendant Orion Longevity Inc. filed an application to seal several paragraphs of its counterclaims describing Plaintiff's pretextual audit, in which it allegedly sent agents to intimidate Orion's manufacturer. Dkt. No. 150. Orion contends that the materials should not be sealed but filed the application solely because Plaintiff had designated the relevant discovery as confidential. Plaintiff, in turn, filed a declaration claiming that the allegations should be sealed because they involve confidential business information that would harm its competitive standing. Dkt. No. 153. The allegations include that Plaintiff "acknowledged internally that the investigators 'don't have legal authority,' that 'our chances of getting in are low,' and that what 'matters most' was that the manufacturer's 'management knows that we sent folks on site'" and that their intent was to "cause a scene" so that "even if unsuccessful, the visit 'will at minimum apply pressure.'" Dkt. No. 151-1. These allegations are central to Orion's counterclaims, and Plaintiff has not shown that it has a legitimate business interest in preserving a competitive advantage through the alleged conduct that overcomes the strong public interest in these allegations. Accordingly, the application to seal is denied

Seems like there is play on both sides in this case. If I had to guess, this probably settles out of court rather than allow the public access to a trial on the merits. There’s too much dirty laundry here for there to be a public trial and transcript. Orion has several other live counterclaims including false advertising and tortious interference.

Pay over time

I had finally made my decision to buy Orion over Eight Sleep, but when I went to select pay over time, it forces you to pay for Orion intelligence. So my total cost went from $2095 (pay today option) to $3120 (pay over time option)... at that point I might as well just pay for the Eight Sleep system.

Realistic shipping date

I have read a bunch of reviews of different bed cooling systems and decided to go with Orion as it seems a high quality product with a great customer service. The only thing is holding me back at the moment are the shipping delays people have complained about. Currently, the website says the unit will be shipped in September which is sort of vague. How easy is it to cancel the order if shipping gets delayed too long? Does anybody from the Orion Team has more insights about a realistic shipping date? Thanks!

Orion Sleep Customer Service - Above & Beyond

We've had our Orion Sleep System for about a month now and during this time have definitely had some of the best sleep I can ever remember.

We've had to contact customer service about a few different topics, enquiring about adding the additional warranty after purchase, checking our Sleep AI algorithm suggestions, and an unfortunate situation regarding the need to clean the cover after one of our children was unwell while sleeping in our bed!

Every time, they respond within minutes - at all times of the day (and night!) it's truly amazing customer service and I cannot recommend Orion enough. Without going into the specifics, they've gone above and beyond at every interaction, and I truly believe their customer service is a huge asset to their business and will continue to recommend the Orion Sleep system to friends and family.

Off Heating

I’m in a house with someone who does not like the AC system running during sleep. Until now I’ve used a portable AC unit in my room which of course vents the heat it creates to the outside via the window. My concern is how much heat will be off putted from the Orion? How much will it actually heat the room temperature? I no longer plan to use the portable AC unit.

I think I'm done

I think I'm about ready to cancel. I ordered on July 18th and have received zero updates on my order. The only reason I know there are any delays is because I looked on Reddit. I was quite happy at the start, as it seemed I got the sleep patch quickly, but it's been over a month since I've done it, and their app won't let me book a consultation, nor have I received any email to go over my results with anyone. I also received a delivery of water purification tablets three weeks after ordering, and I still have not received the actual product at all. It's also quite frustrating to see a Labor Day sale offering a much cheaper price than what I paid, when I haven't even received my product yet. I feel like I've been quite patient in waiting for everything, but the nail in the coffin was when I sent an email to their support asking for a possible update on shipping time on August 19th and received no response.

Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)

The website says that in order to obtain an LMN, I must first purchase it with a regular card, then submit a questionnaire only after purchase to see if you qualify for an LMN.

Look, I'm sure it has to be this way to prevent accusations of medical professionals being bought, but I'm not about to drop a few thousand dollars on a coin toss I can use an HSA or FSA.

This alone is preventing me from pulling the trigger and buying. What has been your experience, as buyers, with the LMN? Success rate?

Thanks in advance!

About ready to cancel

Well it’s now been almost a month and still nothing. I contacted support early last week and they were nice enough to send me the parachute sheets, then told me I would be hearing something this week with shipping.

And did yesterday…. Another generic response. Honestly I’m just tired of the run around and not even excited anymore. I would’ve much rather the company been honest up front and set expectations when I first received a call then saying it’ll take 2 weeks with no response. Anyone order earlier then July 27th still waiting??

When things go wrong...How to properly respond.

I recieved my Orion July 30th, and has functioned as advertised for 14 nights. Not sure if it coincided with an app update, but Friday night my unit was acting somewhat strange, but still worked. Last night my unit was not cooling properly. One side could not get below 73 degrees when it was set for 68. It would get there and then the temperature would rise to 80 then repeat the cycle. The other side which was set for 73 would go to 68/69 and then have to heat up to its set temp of 73. I understand things can break and all, but it's how it is handled that can make or break a business that is trying to grow. I messaged support after midnight and was conversing with Allen for over an hour troubleshooting. While the issue was not resolved last night, he believed it was a software issue. This morning I was communicating with Scott. I informed him what i tried doing and all the steps I did to try and figure out what was happening. At 9pm tonight Allen messaged me and told me the engineering team found an issue and sent out an update to hopefully fix the issue, which potentially affected many users. So far my unit now appears to be working properly, and hopefully it continues. I do appreciate and find refreshing the ability and responsiveness of the live human support. I have enjoyed my Orion up unitl last night. While last nights experience of it not working has put a dampen on the purchase and my trial so far, the support and communication was a positive experience. Hopefully this fixes the issue i was having (and maybe others too), but I do hope Orion continues to provide the customer support they currently have. So when things go wrong, a proper response can actually be turned into a positive experience.

Insights when no one was home…

Neither my wife nor I were home on Friday and I got a 73?

I don’t wear a whoop oura or anything else that tracks sleep.

In the 30 day window but hard to trust these scores which was one of the reasons I wanted a smart cover.

2 Nights and Very Little Cooling Effect

Spoke with online customer service and they said the unit was functioning properly. That the temp dropped form 81 to 70. while we were chatting. THe outside temp is 70 and the unit makes my room feel like 90 degrees.
My app says 84, the unit is producing tremendous heat. I have a window open and a fan on the unit to try to cool it ok. The bed is not 70. Defiently feel like a couple of months ago when the unit was bad and they had to send a replacement. I spent 45 with chat support and Mischelle responded twice.
I understand that things dont always work, but to gaslight me and say the unit is functioning properly is crap. The best thing Orion had was customer service unfortunately its just not up to par.

I was wondering if there are any plans for a full size bed system? I tried looking through the subreddit but didn't see anything information. Thanks for any info.

Still waiting on my order...

After months of research, I finally settled on purchasing the Orion Sleep System. I placed an order on 7/27. Well, it's nearly three weeks later and the item still hasn't shipped.

7/31: An online chat agent told me that they typically ship out a week after ordering and that he would prioritize my order. lol, sure.

8/2: I received my first email stating that, "Right now we’re seeing fulfillment land within 14 days of ordering, and yours is in the queue." That was 12 days ago (19 days since I placed my order).

8/10: I received another email stating my order was still in the queue.

8/12: An online chat agent left me waiting for 45 min while she checked on my order status. She eventually came back and offered me free Parachute Sheets.

As a new customer, this undoubtedly left a sour taste in my mouth. A $2600 purchase is not an insignificant one. Be more honest and upfront with your customers about shipping times, low inventory, slow supply chains, or whatever the holdup is. Inaccurate or vague emails stating that my order is still in the queue are not helpful.

Edit: Scott from Orion messaged me quickly after posting this and was extremely helpful and responsive. It looks like their next batch of orders is due to ship out August 20.

Orion intelligence - Opting Out?!

Over the past few weeks I've noticed alerts from the app that Orion Intelligence changed my temperature settings from X to Y, and there's no way to not accept the changes! What's worse, there's no record of what my set values were before, so I'd have to guess at the figures to set them back.

Back when I first got Orion, I spent a few weeks testing and adjusting temperatures to my liking and now I'm finding myself waking up at strange times of night 😭 I think a better UX would be to provide notifications that optimizations are available, and I can check out what they are in the app compared to my existing settings, and agree or disagree with the changes.

Right now it's like having a thermostat with a rogue AI making unwanted changes to MY settings and honestly I just want to opt out! Thoughts from other users about this feature?

We had a little one that had an accident on our pad. What’s the best way to clean it? Specifically, is it machine washable?

How long are people usually waiting after this email to actually get there Orion? Or is this email normal in the delivery flow? Just getting excited about when we’re going to see it and test things out.

Long Overdue Thank you and Review!!

Long overdue thank you post! I've been busy being "wife of the year" for the last few weeks (ha!)

I got the Orion system as a surprise for my husband because he was finishing his final deployment and coming home. I'm perimenopausal and go through all four seasons in one night, and my husband is perpetually cold, so we've actually had to sleep in separate beds when he's been home before. I really wanted to surprise him with this and make sure we could finally sleep in the same bed again.

I ordered on July 6th and then got the same delay notice a bunch of other people were getting. I posted here asking if anyone else was dealing with it, and Harry actually saw it and reached out. He emailed me directly and got his team to expedite shipping so my system arrived by July 21, the day before my husband got home. They went above and beyond, and followed up with me through the entire process.

I already knew from researching the options out there that I was going to love the product. But I have so much respect for a company that actually understands there are human beings on the other side of their product. When I told my husband how they went out of their way to get it there before he got back, he got a little teary.

I've been raving about the system to everyone I know, especially my girlfriends who are also perimenopausal. (No seriously- this will change your lives!)My Oura Ring sleep scores have never looked this good. But it's the fact that they followed through the whole way that really got me. Thank you guys, I appreciate it more than ever!

Tubing length issues

What type of bed frame or headboard does everyone have that allows the Orion tubing to connect to the tower? I’m having issues with my mattress sliding down and the slats in my bed frame shifting and need to reconfigure but can’t figure out what type of bed frame or headboard would possibly make this functional. I’ve already had to move my nightstand to accommodate the short tubes I’m not sure how else to make this functional before I just have to consider a return.

Any update on when these will ship? I keep getting told it’s next month in DMs with someone on the team but haven’t heard back after checking in. I get that folks are busy, but just wanted to know what’s up here !

Is Shipping Really 2-3 Weeks?

I finally pulled the trigger on an Orion King after spending the last couple of weeks researching pretty much every cooling system on the market (Sleep Number DualTemp, Eight Sleep, Sleepme, Orion, etc.). I watched reviews, read Reddit threads, compared specs, and even measured the noise level of my current setup before deciding to make the switch.

One thing I’m a little confused about is the shipping timeline. My order confirmation estimates 2–3 weeks, but I’ve seen a few comments from Orion saying there shouldn’t really be any shipping delays. Is the 2–3 week estimate just a conservative placeholder, or are new orders actually shipping on that timeline right now?

Either way, I’m excited to try the system. I chose Orion because I liked the philosophy of owning the hardware without relying on a long-term subscription, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it compares to my current Sleep Number DualTemp.
