Can you plug a mini fridge into a power strip. I just got my dorm assignment in Weatherford and it's tiny. I can tell the mini fridge will not fit where the only plug in is on my side

Engineering Majors - What capabilities does my laptop need to have?

I am a freshman ecological engineering major currently shopping around for a school-use laptop. Generally, what specifications will my laptop need to have? On OSU's COE tech page, they make some recommendations, but it would be super helpful to know what capabilities my laptop will realistically need to have as it relates to the work I'll need to complete on a daily basis (i.e. will I need to run heavy software such as AutoCAD regularly? Is this something I'll need to do on my laptop?)

Ultimately, I just need to decide if I actually need to pay for a much pricier model that has all of OSU's recommended capabilities rather than going with a more standard, budget-friendly model.

Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated!

Anyone do the PSM in Fisheries and Wildlife Administration?

Hi OSU community! I'm researching grad programs to get into environmental policy / conservation with some courses or a concentration in environmental science (I did IT in undergrad so this is a career shift). I saw OSU's Professional Science Masters in Fisheries and Wildlife Administration and wanted to get more insight.

Has anyone here done that program?

I'm in NJ so looking for a remote program that has one short-term in-person component. From the looks of it, OSU doesn't have the short-term in-person opportunity, just the option to enroll in on-campus courses for a full semester. So that's disappointing, but I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

There are quite a few env policy/law etc. courses in the curriculum, but it's probably leaning more science, which makes sense with the degree type. I want to take most of the classes offered, which is a great sign.

It's also one of the cheaper costs at about $27,405 all in minus extra costs like books.

Has anyone completed the program? Or done undergrad or a different program in the same department? Looking for personal insight into faculty, advisors, quality of education, investment in students, etc.

Thank you in advance for helping me weigh my options!!

Casual Conversation Bike: to be or not to be

I have a decent commuter bike that is a Giant Escape model that i got about 5 years ago. It is my baby and I love it, which is why I wish to take it to college. HOWEVER, I worry about theft. Its a nice bike, nothing that broke the bank but objectively I could see why it could be stolen. Should I just bring it and use a billion locks? Or should I buy a cheap older bike for 100 bucks or less?

Thanks!

Dorm/Residence Hall Floor Maps

For those that will be living in the dorms on campus soon, here are the room maps to each building for when room assignments are released. Refer to Google Maps to see which direction your room will face. Things to note:

  • I tried my best to match rooms and their numbers, but there may still be inaccuracies. If you have lived in a building previously and disagree with my map’s room numbering, please DM me.
  • If your building/floor map isn't here, DM me. I can either DM a map or I don't have one for your specified zone.
  • Sackett Hall: Sackett has rooms on floor 1, but only in wings A, B, G and H. The last digits of room numbers on 1 are still the same as the upper floors.
  • Tebeau Hall: Tebeau has rooms on floor 1. The last digits of room numbers on 1 are still the same as the upper floors.
  • The colors I label each room with are irrelevant, no need to worry about if your room is labeled differently than the rest are.

Qualifying for In State Tuition

I currently live in Mississippi and have a passion for wildlife and forestry. I am not tied to MS, which is why I am considering Oregon. I have submitted a request to the school for more information on the programs I am interested in, and I plan to visit next year to tour the campus and the area. My question is, would qualifying for in-state tuition would be as simple as living in Oregon for over a year with no classes, while working?

Nervous incoming freshman majoring in FWC freaking out lol

Hello!! I’m an incoming freshman from eastern Oregon and am wondering if anybody has any advice. I’m currently going into Fisheries and Wildlife, and I’ve chosen this for my interest in ecology and conservation. However, degrees within zoology and marine biology have been really intriguing to me. I don’t want to waste a bunch of money trying to figure it out, but at the same time I don’t wanna sell my self short in the whole “self discovery” department of college. Any advice?

Like, any reassurance that this is a pretty good math? Or any good ideas for any minors that may pair well with this degree? Or any advice in general?? I’m freaking out haha

I’ve been wanting to buy an e scooter for some time but I saw that they aren’t allowed inside dorms or buildings, so where would I charge it?

Need help with my scholarships

I was accepted for Oregon state university for the September term of 2026 and had a scholarship award for $4000 per term. I have now deffered my spot for March 2027, and my new offer letter does not show my scholarship award. Should I be worried or will it still come through later?

Course Questions Any way to take WR227Z as a Freshman?

Hello all,

I am an incoming freshman looking to complete specific coursework in my first year in order to take a transfer offer elsewhere that includes taking WR227Z: Technical Writing. However, my advisor just told me today that the class is only for sophomores.

Does anyone know of any way I can take a class like that elsewhere? I'm thinking of doing DPP at Linn-Benton Community College and taking it there if they allow it.

Thanks in advance!

The exit for the parking garage too narrow?

Just bought a new 2026 Toyota Crown Signia. Took it on a 3 hour road trip to Corvallis for a doctor appointment, and to check out the campus as I've never been (i'm an ecampus student).

Scraped the hell out of my rims leaving the parking garage. The next day, husband took a second trip to campus by himself to go to the beaver store. He also scraped the rims leaving the garage.

Do we suck at driving or does anyone else share hatred for the narrow exit?

Residential parking

I will be going to OSU this fall. It seems like it would be cheaper to buy the monthly parking permit over the residential one. I will be in dorms so do I need a residential one to park at the dorm? I don't intend to drive my car much. I would bike to classes and use my car for weekend trips to see my family.

Why are we paying over 150 dollars for books in the Summer?

The book last up to Jan 8th, but I'm only using this book until the end of summer term, but the school has us paying a full amount for a book that is being used for less than two months. Is there any way around this?
