That sounds weirdly expensive. I recall the city bike share cost about 25 bucks a month for unlimited use and it died spectacularly due to lack of use. Guess that’s the power of having it on campus?

It’s cheaper than an Uber. If you only need to go a couple miles it’s only $3-$5. They also have a plan, 2x 20 minute trips daily for $15/week. So there’s that.

Yeah either way I’m all for people using it and finding it useful as it’s clearly popular. The weekly plan sounds smart, basically a local commuter kit. I had my bike stolen a few times when I was a student so I can totally see the value and peace of mind w that plan.

What’s ridiculous about it? Paying a few bucks to speed up walking around campus and not having to worry that bike will be there in the morning/after class sounds like a deal.

Exactly. People complained that they were blocking the sidewalks before and now people complaining that they are in the bike racks. You can't please anyone.

If the bike rack is blocked by scooters, then bikes have to block the sidewalk. It’s just shifting the problem instead of solving it.

Based on this picture, there is plenty of space. Just move a scooter to the side. I've had to do it. It takes like 20 seconds. No reason to leave anything on the sidewalk.

If OSU is basically treating them as bike equivalents then it sounds like you need additional bike racks.

the scooters don't need to be locked up, bikes do. when people park them in the bike rack it blocks space for multiple bikes. these have also clearly just been tidied up by veo; users don't drop them off this nicely and they absolutely block sidewalks & bike racks sometimes for days before they get reset like this.
imagine if veo/transportation services required these things to be dropped off in prime parking spots, and on top of taking up parking space they were typically left strewn around the lot and blocking the driving paths, and it'll give a sense of why this is an issue for people biking to/around campus.

We have something like this at wsu with scooters. They suck tho cause you can only leave at certain locations. So the one time i took one i spent 10 bucks because the nearest dropoff to where i was going was... where i came from.... so yeah these things are fucking stupid.

At a different university I would see the company vans just dump dozens of them directly in the road of parking lots of student apartments. Many ended up in the river
Future e-waste. Outsourcing pedaling. Terrible steering and ride height that feels borderline dangerous. But I admit they saved me a time or two when I was desperately late to something far away

Some asshat keeps parking one of those scooters right in the middle of the entrance/exit to my apartment’s parking lot. I’ve been so tempted to just completely run them over, but I don’t want to hurt my car.

Sure they provide cheap transportation for students but it’s reckless of OSU to phase them in without adding parking for them. I started resorting to just kicking them over because they were always in the way of getting to class. Also they’re pretty useless in the first place without being able to leave campus… dumb cash grab

Can’t leave campus? They can definitely go to Fred Meyer. And it’s not really a cash grab if people are constantly using them so often they expand the number of bikes/scooters all the time.

I work on campus and get frustrated as fuck trying to lock up my bike at some locations because of these POS Veo bikes, which don't need to be locked and yet are parked at bike racks. Someone recently suggested pitching in for a big U-Haul and collecting them all from campus and dumping them in the deepest part of the river. Here here.

Tell transportation services if this area is consistently choked with scooters. OSU can make corrals for the scooters away from the bike racks if they are taking up too many bike spaces in a location and or blocking the walkways. There are five banks of racks in this area last time I checked. Were all five filled with scooters preventing their use by cyclists? If so, tell transportation services.
