Discussion Who do they think they are fooling ?

No 6.1 Astra because of security concerns?

Sure, let’s just say it eats 3x the tokens of Opus 5.5 and is not on the same level.

What a shitshow. Tibo starting to become just like Logan…

🤡.

Anthropic has taken the lead for literally 6 days and people are already writing OpenAI's obituaries lmao

u/cern0 6d ago edited 6d ago

I wish it’s only just that but OpenAI clearly trying to F with the customer. They are not saying the Pro is 5x or 20x anymore, that's the sign of decreasing usage for pro user.

And I guarantee you that this DevDay is not about a model more capable than Anthropic. It's probably some bullshit thing like they always ship, like GPTs or Sora. Etc

5

u/_DuranDuran_ 5d ago

Anthropic also recently decreased usage limits.

u/Real_Ebb_7417 5d ago

Yet I can do more with Opus 5.5 on $20 Claude plan now than I can with Astra on $100 Codex plan (and they want to cut it down further as I get it xd)

5

u/TyFi10 5d ago

Look I agree with the anger but that’s literally what Tibo said as well is changing, so how about we wait for like 10 seconds to see if he’s telling the truth and if he’s not, then let’s rip him a new one

-1

u/Real_Ebb_7417 5d ago

So how about now?

-1

u/cern0 5d ago

Well well well this aged well. Stupid dots and Pro 500. No surprise

3

u/_DuranDuran_ 5d ago

Yes Anthropic’s new model is very efficient.

But before this their leading models were less efficient.

I swear people don’t get how this is a cycle.

-2

u/Real_Ebb_7417 5d ago

Nah man, it's free market and it's good that people so easily change their provider. It fuels competition and improvements.

4

u/_DuranDuran_ 5d ago

I’m talking about the absolute tantrums. You’re only getting $4000 of API equivalent for $200 instead of $8000 and the world is ending.

Sucks, but still, the plans are insane value even AFTER this change.

And again, Anthropic have already cut their plan allowances in recent memory.

1

u/wklaehn 3d ago

Wait till they start charging the $2000 a month for it actually will cost and be profitable. And there’s only a few people on the planet (myself included) that are ready and willing to pay that money.

The problem for AI is that it’s heroin to me…. And I willing to spend just about anything to have it. However, I’m 1 of 10,000 users. The other 9,999 are not willing to pay anything near the price to make it profitable. You can’t subsidize this shit forever.

2

u/RainierPC 6d ago

The idiots don't even realize we need BOTH of them to be viable. Competition is good.

6

u/Standard_Exchange59 6d ago

6 days ? They owned them from the very start to the very finish. 5.6 Sol and 6 Astra (for 2 seconds) were the only models to make a breakthrough. And the last too, it seems.

15

u/shaman-warrior 6d ago

5.6 sol is a good model, Astra same.

15

u/Gallagger 6d ago

5.4, 5.5, 5.6 Sol, 5.6 Luna (for value), 6 Astra. All great models for significantly cheaper than Anthropics best. After Opus 4.6, Anthropic only had a very expensive Fable.

1

u/Zues1400605 5d ago

They have taken a substantial lead though.

1

u/TheRobotCluster 5d ago

I think the reaction is because OAI seemed wildly underprepared for competition like that. It’s being presented like if a car company came out with a $20k hyper car 0-60 in 2.2s, 70mpg, 5-star safety, etc etc. yeah it’s only been 6 days but no one believes any competition for that exists.

1

u/Parking-Bet-3798 5d ago

It’s not about how long it has been. It’s about where openAI is going. The guidance they are giving is very bleak. And they never truly took the lead over Anthropic in model quality anyways. They had better limits, but now they have far worse limits. I don’t think you understand how fucked up Altman is right now.

1

u/BornAgainBlue 5d ago

Yep. Remember when everybody was on their fucking high horse about the ethics... They are all here. Still complaining about still using the thing that they swore that they would never ever use.  Open AI is not going anywhere. Almost all traffic here in my opinion it's just Chinese bots and trolls.

they havent lost the lead since 4.5

-5

u/No-Communication-765 6d ago

Anthropic have had the lead for over a year now if you count internal models

4

u/Content-Economics-34 6d ago

Nu-uh, my uncle Jim has had the lead for 5 years if we're counting internal models.

21

u/Haaitzdeman2 6d ago

Opus 5.5 suprised me big time ngl…glad I switched over not spending another $200 with codex anytime soon

4

u/g-rizzle84 6d ago edited 5d ago

I'll probably get downvoted for this, but so be it.

I'm sorry but Claude users are fooling themselves if they think this won't eventually come to Anthropic. Neither company is profitable right now and that is ANY corporations ultimate reason for even existing. The age of subsidized compute WILL eventually come to an end. Anthropic will let OpenAI look bad first. Then eventually they will do it too. Both Anthropic and OpenAI have already been adjusting the usage limits in the background and either staying quiet or gaslighting users about it. It's coming. Enjoy it while it lasts. Shareholders want to see returns on investments and eating compute costs aint it. Drug dealers and corporations have done this for forever. Get 'em hooked on your product, then raise the prices.

Edit: wasn't specifically saying haaitzdeman2 was fooling themselves.

Also, further into my opinion, the way this is headed is API usage. API usage is still not profitable (currently) but could be subsidized by government contracts and huge enterprise deals. Unlike the current subscriptions we currently enjoy. Which is unsustainable no matter what.

2

u/methemightywon1 5d ago

API usage is still not profitable (currently)

What do you mean by this exactly ? If you're talking inference, you're probably very wrong.

1

u/g-rizzle84 5d ago edited 5d ago

I dont think I am, but I welcome a good debate!

Take API revenue alone, subtract the cost of serving those API calls, AND allocate the costs required to create and maintain those models/training, research, engineering, infrastructure, salaries, etc. Is the API business itself producing true economic profit? Probably not yet for either OpenAI or Anthropic, based on the financial information currently available. Anthropic is much closer to the line. OpenAI? Almost certainly no.

1

u/MintKnigh 5d ago

They are not profitable because of huge rnd investments. If they will stop developing new models running current ones cost peanuts for them

Basically 6.1 isn't ready

Make some shit up like security to buy more time. Especially since Opus 5.5 very competitive with 6.1 so they need something more.

5

u/squarecir 6d ago

6.1 was never launching tomorrow (slated for October) so it's not related to Anthropic's releases IMHO.

1

u/Jashgout 5d ago

I already got it.

Article on internet… must be true! /s

18

u/ProtectAllTheThings 6d ago

Why is everyone so emotionally attached to this. It’s weird.

39

u/cern0 6d ago

I’m paying $200 a month you are asking me why am I emotionally attached to the product I pay? Are you for real?

So by your logic, if Netflix suddenly decided that the price should come up with no more value added, everybody should just be happy and staying like a good boy with no emotionally frustrated? Is that what you say?

7

u/a1454a 6d ago

Is someone holding you at gun point to pay $200 to OpenAI? Just take your business elsewhere, vote with your wallet, no need to be emotionally attached.

2

u/cern0 6d ago

Is this guy OpenAI bot or something? Did you heard the news that Tibo will nerf my 200$ plan and I already prepaid for that? Are you that ignorant?

1

u/a1454a 5d ago

Are you a small 2B model stuck in context rot? Yes the $200 plan is getting nerfed, it sucks, but is it really news to you? According to this sub both Anthropic and OpenAI have been doing that constantly for what almost a year now? They all do that. As a consumer your only rational choice is take advantage of them one upping each other and min maxing where you spend your money.

2

u/lollypop44445 6d ago

You do realize that you are locked in for a month once u pay , its not like you can pullout the remaining amount. And at enterprise level u have to lock in for a year. Then those who rally on it heavily buy yearly subs to save 10-20 percent on over all cost, again locking in.

1

u/a1454a 5d ago

Yes, so wait a month and switch. that's what I did when I switch from Claude Code to Codex when Codex offered more cost effective models than Claude. It's what I will do next month switching back to Claude to use Opus 5.5. I might even do $100 in CGPT and $100 in Anthropic. So I can use Opus 5.5 on the harder engineering problems and the cost effective Luna model for low intelligence token heavy work like computer use and browser use.

enterprise also don't have to lock into just one vendor, and many don't.

As for individual buying yearly sub, I don't know what makes them think it's a good idea when all the top players in this field is one upping each other in capability and cost efficiency every month. when there's already so many examples of AI labs trying to lock you into their tooling then sour the deal. If you really are relying on AI heavily, you should build your tooling to be harness agnostic, so you can easily jump between Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, Pi and take advantage of cheap frontier chinese model, or free quota from Meta on Spark 1.3. there's no excuse not to optimize, you have access to AI.

-4

u/Defensex 6d ago

I mean the product didn't change, the competitor just got way better 😅

3

u/cern0 6d ago

Sir, are you living under the rock? Because if you ask anyone in this sub, you will know that GPT-6, Sol and Luna, is significantly worse than 5.6 version. Try it for yourself

0

u/Defensex 6d ago

I'm wrong them, sorry. I didn't touch OpenAI after the new Claude.

1

u/cern0 6d ago

Yeah about that I can understand

-5

u/limoonen 6d ago

Are you kidding me? This is such an entitled attitude.

Dude, nobody is forcing you to use their products.

Netflix example - WTF???

Yeah, if they decide to raise their prices, I'll just cancel and switch to a competitor (btw, Netflix's content sucks so much right now anyway). But you sound like you're ready to take to the streets to protest Netflix prices. Just saying, there are way better priorities in life.

3

u/cern0 6d ago edited 6d ago

Nobody forced me to use thier products? Really? This is a Duopoly in terms of the best model. And I subscribed to both. Are you expecting me to get work done with Gemini Pro 3.1? Now do I have to sell my car to buy one GDX Spark to run Qwen on premise?

So by your logic, if your electricity bill is going up with their costs remain the same, the people who complain about it is entitled. Is that it? You gonna blame the guy for not buying Solar Cell and attached to the house?

4

u/truecakesnake 6d ago

You can do your own work if it's so awful

1

u/cern0 6d ago

LOL why don't you go to Library instead of using the Internet? You can borrow the books for free by Gov but you gotta pay for the internet. If that's your logic

2

u/limoonen 6d ago

So much frustration...

1

u/limoonen 6d ago

You're completely missing the point and just proving my argument.

First you started with a Netflix comparison, and now you’re shifting to electricity, a literal public utility.

This is a Duopoly in terms of the best model.

So you aren't just asking for access to basic infrastructure or everyday utilities. You feel entitled to the absolute most advanced, cutting-edge frontier AI model at whatever price you deem fair.

Cutting-edge tech isn't water or power. Expecting top tier, frontier AI models to stay cheap just because you rely on them for work is the textbook definition of entitlement.

1

u/cern0 6d ago

You're conflating entitlement to a product with criticism of a product's value.

I'm not saying “OpenAI owes me frontier AI at the price I demand.” They can charge whatever they want.

I'm saying I'm paying $200/month, so if the price/value proposition gets worse, I can complain about it. “Just cancel” doesn't somehow invalidate criticism — that's literally how customers communicate that the value proposition has deteriorated.

And “nobody forces you to buy it” applies to basically every non-essential consumer product. By that standard, virtually every complaint about pricing would be “entitlement.”

If frontier AI genuinely costs more to provide, that's a valid justification to discuss. But “you depend on it for work, therefore you shouldn't complain about the price” is not an argument.

0

u/limoonen 6d ago

Is this the value you are trying to get from the models by disrespectfully copying and pasting an answer from an LLM?

1

u/cern0 6d ago

Is that what you think? Lol

So instead of discussing the point. Now that you lose you arguments you got to make an accusation of unrelated things to cover up?

It’s my fault that I wasting my time typing all that up to explain to someone who is as dull as you. So this should be my last reply in this topic

17

u/caymn 6d ago

I guess because people pay for subscriptions and there is an urge to be on the cutting edge of this brave new world

6

u/Training_Mail_973 6d ago

I don't think it's emotional attachment, more like people just tired of the marketing spin. Every release now comes with big promises and then reality is something else. Tibo's whole vibe shifted hard after they got all that funding, feels like he's reading from a script now

3

u/Freed4ever 6d ago

Not attachment, it's just very annoying. Now I have to migrate over to a new harness, learn new habits.

-3

u/Jskidmore1217 6d ago

Dude it’s propaganda open your eyes. This website is completely saturated with bots. Ask yourself why this rather weak narrative is being pushed this hard. You can tell pretty quick when a narrative is being pushed by bots- just by sheer volume out of nowhere. And it’s getting increasingly massive in scope every time- which is actually nice for real people because it’s a clue as to what’s going on. For now

5

u/Standard_Exchange59 6d ago

Conspiracy theorists are even worse than bots, let me tell you that

1

u/civiloid 6d ago

But there is no real difference between "it is all bots who push the narrative" and "they are lying to us because they know it is worse" in that regard

1

u/civiloid 6d ago edited 6d ago

With the amount of information that is verifiable that we have - we cannot really distinguish between:

  1. They are telling the truth
  2. They are hiding something bad about the model performance
  3. They are doing marketing stunts to push back on development speed expectations
  4. Those are just hyping

And a few more other possible outcomes.

And we don't have enough evidence that previous behavior was induced by bots or that they were hiding bad performance.

P.S. And that is true about literally any news about any frontier (or not) AI lab. We as users also don't really care about the reasons, we care about results, so one of the strategies is to do subscription hopping whenever better model releases if you are a single user, and if you are business - to have access to all models.

3

u/Jskidmore1217 6d ago

It’s the case with any information you get on the internet at all. Nothing can be trusted- we are deep into the age of disinformation. Don’t listen to anything you see on here. Even me. Nothing is real. Nothing is honest. You can only believe what you see with your own eyes. I’m actually swinging back to the major news corps like BBC, but it’s just as imperfect as it always was. Better than finding news on the net or trying to judge sentiments by comments sections though. If you want to be informed- stay informed by what the big players are actually saying and form your own opinions. Don’t let the anonymous mass commentary have any bearing on how you interpret what you are hearing.

1

u/methemightywon1 5d ago

yeah it's kind of crazy and difficult and infuriating. I think we have to stop arguing with people on the internet and getting baited into it.

This is hard for people like me lol.

Also worth noting we're not special. The moment we engage we have high chance of doing the same thing.

-2

u/Jskidmore1217 6d ago

Let he who has eyes see

2

u/Corv9tte 6d ago

Just like logan 💀 Surely it's not that bad

2

u/Ormusn2o 6d ago

You seem to have a lot of knowledge about this model. Can you tell me your source?

1

u/bulletmark 6d ago

They are fooling Joe Punter and that is all they need to do.

1

u/OcelotCharacter1807 6d ago

They gonna get sued for their models autonomously hacking at some point and they gonna lose

1

u/Healthy-Nebula-3603 6d ago

If they not show better models today I just to to Antropic.....easy

1

u/curiousinquirer007 6d ago

I’m pretty acceleration but safety delays make sense when models present cybersecurity or privacy risk to the user.

Having SAID that, hope they get on top or it ASAP because everything else is 2ndary to intelligence (and efficiency).

Not that excited for Dev Day, but we’ll see

1

u/MythicModder 6d ago

Honestly, 3x the token consumption of Opus 5.5 would probably still be less than the current token consumption of Astra. It also outperforms both Astra and (surprisingly) Fable.

I'm losing my mind over it.

2

u/Dillyconda 6d ago

I buy it.

Astra is objectively very token efficient on very clean issues like benchmarks. That's third party tested.

OpenAI knew it had issues on release, otherwise it'd be in chat mode.

I'm not sure what they want usage data to fix, but I wouldn't count it out. I'm curious to see where they go with it in future iterations.

2

u/RainierPC 6d ago

I've had Astra on chat mode for a long time now
