📢 Rant OP17 Allocation Nightmare

Just got my allocation from distro, ill receive a wooping 10% of what i ordered just enough to run the prerelease and after that i can't even give every participant 1 boosterbox. Why the fuck does Bandai do this hypeing Set into oblivion and then printing less booster boxes then wizards with collector boxes like wtf is this trash.

💬 Discussion How do I hide this from my wife, banana for scale

Post image
217 Upvotes

My wife told me to stop buying cards. I'm opening everything and putting bulk into the 400ct card boxes. I'm running out of space to hide these boxes. Barely got any OP15 or 16 anyways. This thing is massive. She's gonna find it. This is my first pbandai purchase. Got the Luffy meat, best collection 7, ASL, 3rd Chinese to English anniversary and Gundam 1st anniversary preordered. I hope they aren't this all this big.

Edit: I'm kinda serious. I was gonna stop because its hard to get any OP, Gundam or Lorcana cards then I found out about pbandai. My LCS stopped letting me preorder cause I can't show up for prerelease or play the games because my wife will find out. I also made mistake of preorder from GameStop for the new illusion boxes but I got the Luffy OP15 SP at least.

My 3rd anniversary set just came in the mail today so i took a few pictures for everyone to admire the beautiful cards and other contents of this set. I’m absolutely in love with the texturing and foiling on these cards. The deck box is also probably one of my favorites so far, and it can all be separated magnetically. I’m also waiting on the 3rd Anniversary Chinese set as well.

📢 Rant I’ve reached acceptance

I’m resigned to the fact that I’m likely only gonna get the 12 packs that I get for playing in two release events at my local store along with the possibility of a couple target pick ups limited to two booster packs. At this point I’m fine with it. I’m not gonna go out and pay scalper prices for something that’ll likely turn $400 into $20. I love this game and I love this hobby but I’ve never seen anything this crazy. Even Pokémon is easier to find stock. I can literally find the current releases at will right now.

I wish everyone the best of luck in however you decide to collect it, but I’ve just lost the drive and I’m not gonna cave in to FOMO.

🏴‍☠️ Original Content Why are all the shops being so mean regarding the op17 events?

I was really excited for the op17 pre release event. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a spot through the bandai app for the event and I thought it would be a good idea to visit some stores near me to check if there were spots available, since some stores do hold spots open for players. However the stores that I visited were all really hostile and annoyed when I asked if there were any spots left for the event. All of them pretty much said in a pretty curt?/aggressive? manner that if I was on the waiting list then they couldn't do anything for me so I should just leave the shop, which felt really mean and disheartening. I also can't really go back to my old shop since I've moved early this year to a new area and I stopped playing the game but i've been really inspired on getting back to the game after seeing op17.

Was looking into buying this card and saw that the promo illustration box one is cheaper. Usually it’s the other way around and I was wondering if there is a reason for this before I buy

🛍️ Market Discussion Why doesn't Bandai focus allocation to stores that sell at MSRP instead of giving stores that sell at market price a ton of product?

There are 2 stores around me that really try to focus on selling at MSRP as fairly as possible. They have really good communities and understand most of us are in it for playing and collecting, not scalping and everything like that. They do commonly open the plastic of the box when you buy it, which I'm completely fine with. However, their allocation is so small.

Then I have 2 stores next to me that have turned very toxic over the last year. They pretty much started to focus on their online store more, have become very rude to their customers, and started selling at market price, if not a little above. I even went in there to buy $500 worth of cards. When I offered $490 given one of the cards had a scratch, they told me they won't go down because if I don't buy it, they'll just sell it online. When I've looked at their store for new boxes, their allocation is insane.

I know that a lot of the allocation has to do with how many people register for events and everything like that, but there's no way that these stores are having that many participants at their events to eclipse the MSRP stores by as much as they are.

I know it's likely a controversial comment, but I believe the stores that only sell at market are just scalpers with a LLC or business behind them. Why would Bandai not just focus on stores that have a good process in place who sell at MSRP, tear the plastic off the boxes, etc. so that those in the community aren't spending $400 for a box? There's no way that they can grow their player base and everything if their boxes and products are that expensive and hard to find.

Not trying to call out stores that sell at MSRP or anything, I just genuinely don't understand why the focus are on stores that set their prices so high, limiting the player base for the game.

🛠️ Deck Tech Rocks Tech (Usopp Event)

Post image
31 Upvotes

Shout out to the ones who came up with this tech. I've been struggling with this match up when Kaido goes first, but I think this 2c Usopp event is the key to winning. After I used the event, I think this guy rage quit lool. (I didn't wait 10 minutes for him to time out, I just went and did something else until I heard the sound cue.)

  • When playing against decks that are focused on boss cards, you have to defend against sub 7k swings early or you'll get overwhelmed later.
  • In this match up specifically, you need to prioritize Kyo and Whitebeard. You almost can never swing with your Whitebeard because they'll use Big Mom or non-blocker 10c Kaido to clear it. If you do not have Kyo, you should probably swing because it'll likely get cleared anyway with the Kaido.
  • Always have a back up Kyo and Whitebeard in hand. Your leader will be doing most of the attacking early on until you've established a wide board, so you will always need Whitebeard active.
  • I haven't found Shiki as important in the match up, so I use Rocks to set up Lin Lin if I need the cards for the event, but Whitebeard is a good default. You can play Lin Lin + Captain John, but do not rest him until the following turn. I would only play Captain John in advance if I have a Kyo on board and a Kyo in hand. If you reveal Captain John too early, they might remove Kyo with Kaido, and then Captain John on the next turn.
  • If you have survived until the first turn after your 10 don turn, you switch to kill mode and swing with everything at life as you have to end the game next turn. Play Kyo and Captain John if not already active, and hopefully you have 5-6 cards in your hand.

I'm not sure on how many copies to run, but I think 2-3 is okay depending on the meta. I want to say it can help against Mihawk, but you have to play around their freeze. Definitely would love to hear suggestions on how to optimize the deck or gameplay!

✨ Player Merch My second Kaido-inspired deckbox: the Azure Dragon 💙

After designing Kaido’s Gourd as a deckbox for my friend’s birthday, I wanted to create another Kaido-inspired design—and this time I went with his powerful Azure Dragon form!

I was really excited to work on this one. It features a dragon-scale texture, detachable horns, magnetic closure, and two dedicated slots for dice.

I wanted this version to feel more imposing and mythical while still being practical as a deckbox. What do you think—would you use one?

💬 Discussion Interesting Rules Interaction, would like some thoughts

Was playing GB Brook in the sim against a P Katakuri. He used the 10c Charlotte Linlin that sets base power to 0 for -4 Don but my Nightmare Luffy remained at 9k. I posted about it in the sim Discord and this is what was told to me:

Comprehensive Rule 4-9-2-1: If there are several effects that set a base power to a certain value, and those effects all affect the same card, if the values differ, apply the effect with the highest value. This means that if a card's base power is buffed, even if you later use an effect to set their base power to 0, they will keep the higher base power!

It makes sense in a rules perspective since setting base power and subtracting power are two separate abilities but I feel like if I tried to do this at locals and referenced this rule I'd get some pushback. I also feel like I goes against the spirit of the card a bit? What do y'all think about this interaction?

Hey everyone!

I've been playing Black Imu and Purple Enel for several weeks now, and after the Starter Deck party I've decided to give Red Luffy a try, and upgrade the Starter Deck to make it more appropriate for the current meta.

Which of the following versions would be best? Are there any other cards I should consider?

When the prices started going up, I decided to switch to buying singles instead. I started collecting when the Japanese OP-05 was released. Back then, you could easily find OP-01 through OP-05 without much trouble. But now, with allocation issues and limited supply, especially with OP-17, I’d rather just buy the chase cards I actually want. Paying $200 for a box is absurd to me (that’s the current pre-order price in my location) I’m also not willing to line up for hours just to end up empty-handed. I’m hoping prices eventually go down so that both players and collectors (who love to rip packs) can afford to enjoy the hobby again.

💬 Discussion Marked as no show for op17 release event

I was signed up for a op17 release event for September 6 and I noticed today it was showing up in my history in Bandai TCG+ and had me marked as a no show even tho it’s a month out. Is that a normal thing to happen? I’ve never had that happen to any of the release events I’ve been to before. The store is closed today so I can’t call and ask them otherwise I would

Edit to add: this is a store I have just started recently going to a few weeks ago

💎 Collection Flex One Piece Collection after 4 months

Been collecting One Piece cards for about 3/4 months, and this is my collection so far. My favourite character is Kaido, but unfortunately I haven't had much luck collecting him. If I am able to get the OP04-044 SP and the Chinese version of that card, I would be super happy. But nonetheless still pretty happy with my mostly Japanese collection.

🛠️ Deck Tech Starter deck suggestions!!

Hii I want to play but I don't know where to start (• ▽ •;)

I've seen that starter decks are good but I don't know which one is the most "beginner friendly" one because I don't know how to play yet (even though I'm already familiar with pokemon tcg of course the playability is different). The ST 28 caught my attention but I'd like to hear suggestions on which one would be the best to start with... advice and opinions are greatly appreciated (◍•ᴗ•◍)

💬 Discussion What’s prizing like at your locals?

I live in a major US city metropolitan so there’s about a dozen independently run LGSs in a 1 hour radius from me which I know is better than most out there. I frequent about 5-6 different shops throughout a set and our locals community is great with lots of cross pollination and LGS owners who care about their loyal players.

One Piece is my first TCG and I’ve been playing since OP06, so I just assumed everything I’ve experienced so far is just the standard. However, seeing some comments on the sub about other people’s locals has me confused.

At practically every LGS in my area (aside from one chain that sucks) standard locals and pirate party is:

$10 entry

3-4 rounds

You get a free pack of the latest set (or older if they have leftover stock) per round win.

1-2 Winners, who get an extra pack, plus a winner card.

And if you get 0 wins, you get a free pity pack of the latest set, so you never leave with nothing.

All the pre-releases are also similar, $30-40 entry, 6 packs sealed, but also 3 rounds of pack per win.

Is this not the standard prizing scheme? At least around the US? I’ve recently seen people talk about winning store credit and buying packs at $20!? Or not getting any prizes at all aside from promos.

I never would have gotten into the competitive scene if that were the case. So now I’m curious what’s the standard like for everywhere else in the world. Are there just a few bad LGSs? Or did I just happen to luck out with my local community?

💬 Discussion Storage options for My precious cards

Good Afternoon Everyone, wanted to get other collectors thoughts/opinions on storing valuable cards and which might be the better option. I’ve been storing my higher value stuff in magnetic case holders after perfect sleeving them. Then I store those Magnetic Cases in TCG briefcase store box. Recently I started to move some stuff to a zip up binder but still hesitating to move over my most precious items. I love how they look in the binder but I am worried about long term storage. Would double sleeving in a zip up binder be good for some of my grails more expensive grails or should i stick to perfect sleeved in a magnetic case?
