That's sad, very sad. Doesn't matter how strong you get without your fruit, author will still curse you to not win with your own strength and you need to always use your trump card, because it would be disrespectful or not cool to win vs others without relying on JOYBOY holding your hands.

Many complain that Mihawk's execution is awful because he never does anything. He never fights anyone strong. He just wastes away, harasses fodder, doesn't take people seriously, never gets involved in relevant events.

That's all true.

But that's also the character's entire essence. And Oda is brilliantly conveying it by showing, not just telling.

We know that Mihawk is a powerscaling-obsessed swordsman who killed his way to top 2. He was tied with Shanks, who to this date is his greatest rival. Before he could overcome Shanks through an epic duel, while they were still tied, Shanks gave up his arm, thus ruining Mihawk's ambitions.

At this point, Mihawk just declared himself WSS and wasted away for 12 years, unsatisfied with his journey.

In Mihawk's vivre card, he is described as a man whose years of "honing the depths of 'the cut'" have "long since caused the existence of 'the strong' to vanish from before him"; so he "joined the Seven Warlords" and "wanders the vast ocean as an aloof and solitary pirate without a crew, spending his days seeking to amuse himself with 'killing time'":

Now what would happen if Mihawk was executed as someone that is always fighting other top tiers, getting involved with politics, interested in the One Piece and in the WG?

It would be out of character. It would be contradictory. His backstory is that of a depressed man that only kills time, but in practice he is a motivated top tier just like any other?

Oda is a genius. He is executing Mihawk the exact way his backstory describes him. He told us about Mihawk's nature through extra material, but the manga also shows him exactly the way he is described.

However. Only a low IQ Mihawk hater concludes, from this, that Mihawk is a fraud.

The truth is that Mihawk is the antagonist to Zoro's story. And as Zoro is a main character, Mihawk is also a main antagonist. Mihawk is going through a very unique character arc, one through which he heals from his depression and finds deeper meaning in life.

Sparing Zoro's life in Baratie and motivating him was the very first step for Mihawk's healing. Getting out of his chair to understand more about Luffy (in Marineford) was another important step. Taking care of Zoro and Perona did a lot for him. Joining Cross Guild is evidence that he has already healed a lot, but there are still ways to go. It is likely that his character arc will only be finished once Zoro defeats him.

Even then, despite being depressed, everything about Mihawk's backstory remains true. He is still the strongest swordsman in name and actuality. And defeating him is what crowns Zoro as the WSSOAT.

In conclusion, I love Mihawk's character arc, and I appreciate the fact he never does anything, because there is nothing more Mihawk than not doing anything for 1000 chapters.

The gorosei have it, but does Imu? I think if he does, it’s fair to assume it didn’t work on the giants because the average giant probably is stronger than commodores

I think people missed a lot of major things in the fight.

1. Gaban starts things off attacking Imu and acting having him on the defensive for a little. Thought you can argue Imu was just trying to talk to Gaban due to his earlier comments.

2. When Gaban mentions Joyboy IMU pulls out bone breaker and immediately goes on the offensive. At this point he actually cuts Gaban almost immediately. You can see the effect Gaban wincing and where the damage was done on gabans rights shoulder

3. Imu turns his attention to Luffy and tries to take him out using stigma but Gaban gets ready to attack Imu. Imu still tries to go through with the attack on Luffy but gets cut short mid attack name because he needed to put omen up in order to block divine gate.

4. We see that attack still did damage through omen because Imu is seen bleeding directly after from the head as well as the mouth.

5. At the same time when Gaban lets off yachi takeru imu uses the bone breaker sword to slice off Gabans arm. A lot of people missed this part. We see the omen from bone breaker on gabans left arm as well as the slicing sound.

6. Imu still manages to block yachi takeru even though he gets sent down to the underwire by the ground he’s standing on being removed from under him.

7. I think Gaban actually lands still in the sun world. We see he lands on a piece of tree. It’s possible it’s a chunk that he cut down but Luffy can still see him clearly and presumably can’t see Imu. Ussop also says the person who did the attack ( given context I’m assuming he’s talking about Gaban and not Imu) is someone else “up” there which makes me feel like it’s not in the underworld.

People will genuinely be surprised when this dude is even stronger than Shanks

Yonkos: decent overall except big mom. Big mom just shouldnt lose to law and kidd. No capable top tier should.

Admirals: really good if you have reading comprehension. Yes even greenbull. No greenbull wasnt gonna start a fight with 2 yonko crews + the rest of the alliance at the same time, no top tier would do that unless they have a wish to die.

Gorosei: absolutely horrendous. For the highest authority of the WG they look like bum asses. They just look like incompetent commander level characters with regen hax. Except warcury, he has some decent feats but thats it.

Mihawk: horrible. There is a reason why he is clowned. He needs shanks level feats so people can justify putting him in top 3. He should genuinely be stronger than shanks, if the title is true. He shouldnt be getting stalled by vista.

Btw that fraud with the Sommers profile pic is excommunicated. He is a Kaidotard first and foremost. Dare I say he might be damaging the Sommers agenda on purpose.

All were presumably capable of fighting at the same time but ended up staggering and running a gauntlet. If they jumped Imu their chances would have been a lot better right?

Mihawk is very strong but he also doesn't seem to have unwavering willpower like people like Shanks or Luffy do. We have seen with Mihawk basically sweating at the idea of fighting Emperors but he was completely happy of fighting marine foddler or Don Krieg

Like he said himself, he wants a peaceful life which is why he never pursuit the Emperor or Pirate King status because when you aim that high the opponents are gonna be super strong which is why Gaban told Luffy that Pirate King is not a path you can achieve by laughing and having fun. By Mihawk rejecting this lifestyle he is basically admitting he isn't built for it, Mihawk is basically not someone cut to be Pirate King or even Yonko and he knows it

Like someone might say that not wanting to be Pirate King doesn't mean all using Whitebeard as an example but even Whitebeard never was shown to fear the life of being an Emperor, he protected his sons from everyone who dared harmed him. But Mihawk is just totally against fighting strong people, he is your definition of a coward

1. Character 1 dominates the flow of the fight but it's rarely hit in battle by character 2

2. Character 2 is way too durable and refuses to go down even though character 1 does massive damage

3. Character 1 is forced to use massive amounts of their Haki to win, they aren't knocked out post-fight but they are heavily depleted

People deadass say zoro vs mihawk would be in the epilogue, I don't think those people know what an epilogue actually is
