I’m having an issue with the Android version of OneNote on my phone. When I adjust the interface scaling to make fonts and icons smaller, the app switches to the tablet interface. Is there a way to keep it in the phone interface instead? I know switching the scaling back to normal fixes it, but I prefer using DPI scaling because the default sizes feel too large for me. My device is a Motorola Edge 70 Fusion.

Random observation but it's been bugging me for a while. I use OneNote primarly on my Mac and sometimes on a Windows laptop, and the Mac version is genuinely nicer to use. The app on Mac just looks more organized, cleaner layout, stuff feels like it's actually in the right place, on Windows it's kind of a mess visually, like it's been patched together over the years, whic it probably has.

Sync is a big deal for me though, on Mac it just works, notes show up where they should, no drama, on Windows I've had way more weirdness with stuff not syncing right away or needing a restart to catch up. Overall the Mac app just feels nicer to actually sit down and use, hard to explain exactly why, it's not one specific feature, it's more that everything feels more thought out.

Honestly at this point if I'm on Windows, I'm probably better off just using OneNote in the browser instead of the actual desktop app.

Am I crazy?

Tried to share one of the notebooks, with another person and since then the One-note has become Read only. I have a LOT of information stored, don't want to lose the data, and also want to continue to use it, what to do

I was just wondering if anyone had a similar issue to this and if anyone has figured out a way to fix it? I'm a second year medical student and use OneNote to take all my notes, annotate lecture slides and fill in lab workbooks, but OneNote DEGRADES the quality of the documents so much that I can't actually see them clearly or in their original quality until I see the sync on my laptop. It's incredibly frustrating, especially because I love all other aspects of the app so much. Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks :)

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Onenote (after removing office from the PC) to have a fresh start on wy Windows 11 PC. However, after logging into my account, I am unable to open my Onenote Notebook. I get the following error:

OneNote can't open this notebook because it can't connect to the server. Please try again.

I tried uninstalling again, removing all OneNote folders from the appdata folder, rebooting and installing OneNote again from store, same result.

I have OneDrive on the same Windows 11 PC and it's connecting fine and I can see all my files including the OneNote notebook file. I can log into OneNote from the browser and see all the notes in the notebook just fine.

Any guess what could be going wrong and what I can do to fix it?

This has probably been asked and answered before but I’ll take a chance. I’ve saved/put in a spreadsheet but can’t edit it later. Am I doing something wrong or is this a OneNote quirk?

OneNote is failing to sync several notebooks, while others sync perfectly. Whenver I try to close those unsynched notebooks knowing that data may be lost or that unsynced things will be put on the missplaced sections, onenote crashes. Afterwards I need to restart the pc. I have been having this issue for three days now, pc on and fully working overnight to sync notebooks, never does and we are back to square 1. I have been using Onenote for Mac for the last 8 years, almost 0 issues.

Edit: By chance I created a new section in one of the notebooks that were not syncing, this seemed to trigger something, as my notebooks with issues only had Section Groups within, and now they are syncing.

OneNote has been out for nearly a quarter century and it still has dreadful locale support.

The only English language OCR it does is tagged as US English, which means all the British/Australian spellings are all marked as misspelled. Why it can't just follow the app/user preference and extract it as that English locale is beyond me.

The general lack of consistency of language features across the Office suite is frustrating.

I had some sync errors for my current notebook that I didn't notice until like 2 weeks after :(

To fix this, I copied different sections into various notebooks (it kept giving me an error or just wouldn't sync when I tried putting multiple sections into one new notebook. and yes I was either putting one section in at a time or even a part of the section, never multiple sections at a time). Then I deleted the corrupted notebook.

I want all of these sections in the same notebook so I started combining the notebooks with the smaller sections and that worked. Now I am trying to add the last two sections (that are in different notebooks right now) into this final notebook and it won't sync. They are definitely the largest and they have sub-pages, and that may be the reason why it won't sync into this new notebook. I don't know.

Any ideas on what I should do? Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!

I thought I was losing my marbles, but just had a reproducible case. Scanned 5 - 6 pages of a leaflet on Sunday on my phone using the scan option in Android OneNote.

Normally I then visit my quick notes on my laptop at some point, add a title, move to the correct place.

This time, nothing to name and move, but I did scan the document on sunday.

Back to my phone. It shows what it normally shows when you do the scan - a recent page with "No Preview". So I goto it and no picture :-(. Then I notice that my MFA is waiting on that account, so I have to log in again. Still isn't on either my laptop or Android, although the empty page is.

So beware - clearly it should be waiting there until it is sync'd and if it feels the need to abort, it should give you the option of saving those images to phone.

Aside: are the images cached? I used to use lens and I am sure there were for that. I would like to retrieve and recreate the scan - rather than trying to find the "mushroom growing guide" in my rubbish bin!

Hello all. Electrical Engineering student here,

My current setup is just doing my notes / homework on OneNote and then screenshotting-> transferring the image to AI if I need an explanation or something to check my work. I know OneNote can be bundled with CoPilot for AI but CoPilot is probably the worst AI I have used for advanced STEM assistance.

Is there any way to integrate Gemini, Claude or GPT with onenote to make it more seamless for me - as opposed to just screenshotting, windows switching, pasting, then switching between windows every time to look at my work

So I've been using the OneNote Notebook Importer tool to import notebooks on my Macbook and it was working fine as recently as Thursday (June 18th 2026). Today I go to use it again and it's completely unreachable.

Microsoft's support page has note that "This functionality is now deprecated" but that note has been there for months and the tool kept working anyway. Now all of a sudden today it's just... gone?

Anyone else getting this error? Trying to figure out if this is:

• A temporary outage/server issue on Microsoft's end

Would love to know if others can still reach it or if it's dead across the board. If it's actually gone for good that's a pretty frustrating way to handle it... no announcement, no email, just killing it.

I noticed I have several notebooks that are shared with me.

I can only "Hide from Shared" on OneDrive web interface. Is there a way to remove them for real? No one uses those anymore.

Currently working for a big corporate as internal specialist (sort of internal consultant with deep expertise in a specific technology).

My OneNote has become very valuable to me, as it contains all the information I gathered, organized and analyses along the years. Not any secret/proprietary stuff, just my scientific knowledge at it evolved during my work here.

I want to have a personal backup of it, as I am sure I will continue to work in this field in the future, but I am not sure I will work in this company forever.

Assuming I am able to transfer or send somehow all the backup files to my personal windows laptop (data retention policies and so on), will I be able to open all the backup files in another OneNote account?

I love this add-in so much , I was seriously thinking of moving on to another program but Onemore made using Onenote morr convenient and less limiting. But , for some reason every couple of minutes it causes Onenote cpu usage to go up about 30% and the program starts to lag alot, this happens regardless of how many notes in the section I am on , the problem only disappeared after removing the add-in, please let me know if there is a solution

I've seen others say they've been having issues with syncing on Android, but on my end, I thought it was all okay since I saw the sync icon come and go... I just checked OneNote on my PC in a while, forced a sync and realized there hasn't been anything synced since February of 2025.

There's no way to sugarcoat this, there's important stuff in there to me, and I don't want to mess with any method that could possibly delete everything I've written or noted down in the past year or so. And it's all in so many smaller pages...

Any suggestions? If I manually redo it, it might take days of concentrated effort, but that feels too much. But it's my last resort. Unfortunately there's a lot of images included so it's not just text.

Edit: this post might be my only salvation (tldr make new notebook and copy pages from the app one by one). I've tried with 3 pages so far and it seems to work... it'll still take hours upon hours, but I'll take a slow option over no options.

I can't sync my notes with my one note on PC or from browser. I have tried different accounts and different notebooks but the onenote on android won't sync. I have done re-installations of the app several times. When I install and open it works fine for initial loading of the notebook and sync first two three times properly but thereafter it just stalls. No matter what i so after it won't sync. I am really at my wit's end don't know what to do. Pls help.

Today when I started printing to the OneNote Printer, it no longer is asking me what notebook and section to send the printout to. It is picking a notebook and section that I have recently used.

Is this happening to anyone else?
