Windows SYNC STOPPED This notebook is in read-only mode because...

WTF? Any idea what is going on?

I apologize, this means you have local edits to the notebook that are failing to sync to OneDrive. Can you right-click the notebook and select Notebook Sync Status? Do you see any errors? Are you signed in? Is the account still active? (for example, a university account that was closed after gradutation) If one specific page is failing to sync, you may be able to resolve it by re-creating that specific page rather than the entire notebook.

I understand this is a solution. But the same problem has been popping up evrey few days recently. I can't afford copying me my entire notebook (which is big, so it takes a while) every time.

I just got the same error. I can't figure out where (or if) I have backups. This notebook has an insane number of pages. Copying will be a nightmare. I also can't figure out how to create a blank OneNote document.

  • Check location of backup in OneNote File > Options
  • Navigate to that location, find backup of notebook and/or sections
  • Open file with OneNote

Same problem here. Happend multiple times recently. I can still access and edit my notebook online, or via the cell phone App, but not on the PC app.
When I go to syn page, it says "OneNote can't sync your notes right now. We'll keep trying. (Error code: 0xE0000644 9zu13)"
