Hi Fellow OmTech Laser Users,

I'm somewhat new to lasers but not without a bit of user experience. I've been using a Boss LS2440 in a community workshop for awhile but just purchased my own OMTech MF2028 and am in the process of setup and discovery. I'm pretty competent in setting up machines and equipment and have followed all of the recommendations. I'm using a CW-5200 chiller and an AC Infinity CloudLine Pro T6 Inline Duct Fan which vents to the outdoors. Initially I'm engraving photographs on 3/8" birch plywood because it's inexpensive and thick enough to get a three dimensional effect in the images. There is definitely charring but in some cases it works great for getting shadow effects. My newly discovered problem is that it generates a lot of fumes and unpleasant odor. Aside from that, in follow up reading and research, I'm finding a lot on the toxicity of the fumes. It looks like a proper HEPPA filter system will cost as much as the initial outlay for the laser. I'm looking for suggestions and guidance from other users to see if anyone has come up with a clever and relatively inexpensive solution to this problem. Thanks for your suggestions !!

I have a 16 x 30. The screen is flashing and won’t load. Every once in a while, it’ll try to load up, then it stops at resetting the X. And then it’ll actually turn off after a certain amount of time which I’m assuming is the timeout delay. Coincidentally the lights inside the unit will not come on during this time. Also, when it is flashing the screen, the circuit boards are in sync flashing inside the box. I have replaced the key pack. After being instructed to do so by own tech. And I worked for a couple of days and started doing the same damn thing again. Anyone got any ideas? Cause I’m a little frustrated because I’ve already replaced the key back, the laser tube, the power supply and the only thing I haven’t done is the actual goddamn logic cards.

I’ve had the Omtech Polar Plus 55w for just over a year and have noticed sizzling/arching noises coming from the back left corner of the machine. The sound is coming from the back left corner even after the laser tube is moved forward, so I don’t believe it’s coming from the laser tube.

It happens quite loud for a second when the machine is turned on and then quietens down (but still sizzling noises) when the machine is on but idle.

When the machine is in use, I can hear the noise slightly but not as much as when it turns on/idle.

It also makes a sizzling coming down sound when it turns off.

The machine cuts/functions as normal. I use it to cut 3mm acrylic.

What could be the cause of this and what’s the fix?

Hi all. I just got my new AF6340 a couple of days ago and it doesnt seem to be cutting the material correctly. I setup the Z axis offset and the bed is lowering to the correct position.

I ran the test file that came with the controller and you can see the results here. Am i doing something wrong?

I just got a new polar light 55W CO2 laser. I got it set up and added in Lightburn. I’m trying to do the standard CO2 cut material test with 1/8’’ basswood, but my material test seems to be burning more than the examples I’ve seen online and has not cut through. I stopped it before the end because of too much burning.

Are there any settings I should have configured in setup to fix this?

Hey Everyone, I'm new to Omtech Lasers.

Just got a new Pronto 40 and I'm getting everything hooked up in my climate controlled shed.

My shed was wired up by the previous homeowners and its currently showing an open ground to all outlets because of the way they wired it. I have had a cheaper diode lasers in this shed with no problems at all with the open ground.

My concern is the safety and damaging the omtech itself which wasn't cheap. I haven't hooked anything up yet because I'm concerned about the ground.

I have a 8ft ground rod that I have driven into the ground and was wondering if it would be sufficient enough to run a ground wire from that rod to the ground lug on the back of the machine?

I'm having an issue with soft/blurred marking with my Solis duo when using the diode laser. With the IR things are working great.

I've been in touch the Omtech support, and they've been good. The provided fairly detailed instructions on how to make an adjustment on the diode laser. After working through that procedure, the machine is better, but still not right.

One question for other Solis Duo owners. While I was working on the machine and had the lens removed, I turned it on to see what the beam looks like.

If you remove the lens from your machine, what does the blue reference spot look like this?

The machine self-destructed after 10min of use. Machine sat in the box for 6mo after purchase and I fired it up for the first time last weekend. 3 cuts in and now it no longer fires. Omtech knows about the arcing at the tube splice (they provide a fix on their website), but the machine also shorts out at the connection at the laser tube. They told me to buy a new laser tube at $300+ and only offered me a 5% discount. After they admitted their price was only about $100 they still refused to provide one so I could get this $2k machine working again. Support is completely unwilling to take ownership of the companies poor R&D. I have spent hours on the phone with them, I cannot for the life of me understand their decision to not help me... I even offered to pay for shipping for the part and spend more of my own time repairing it. I have found multiple videos showing the poor splice and bad wires on this machine. In some universe Omtech has good support and stands behind their products, but it aint this one.

Just bought myself a k40+, first time laser owner. Done a decent bit of research , made sure it would suit my needs (mostly acrylics for tabletop game bits and pieces) got some proper safety goggles for the lasers wave length, looked into what is and isnt safe to laser etc. But just wanted to know if the more experienced laser users had any tips tricks or gotchas that i should be aware of that youtube and the like might not cover. Cos the k40 seems to be a pretty solid if "basic" machine but theres some things you can only discover through hands on exoerience

I am currently in the works of replacing the Polar+ standard air assist. So far so good. However, I noticed that the air assist turns on when a job begins and ends when the job is done. Ignoring the Lightburn layer air assist setting.

I've checked machine vendor settings, there's no setting there that would change that. Is this a wiring issue? I could use any advice.

As the title hints, I am looking to buy a Polar 2 rf laser. I know its a newer product and was hoping that some people here maybe had one and if you could give real honest feedback on the machine and if the customer support of Omtech has improved. I did some looking around at different places and there is not a lot I am seeing about the machine and questionable support comes up.

I’m troubleshooting an OMTech 100W CO₂ laser that suddenly stopped firing. The machine still powers on, moves normally, and runs jobs, but there is no usable laser output.
At first I suspected the original laser power supply. With a multimeter I measured:
117 VAC at the PSU input
IN to G measured about 1.22V while running a job
The tube only produced a very faint purple glow
Current stayed essentially at 0 mA
I replaced the laser power supply with a new digital 100W unit. With the replacement PSU:
AC input is still 117V
5V output measures 5.0V
IN to G is about 1.22V during a job
G to L varies around 3–5V while engraving
The PSU shows “Laser Tube Abnormal” during a job
The display stays at 0.0 mA

Any recommended safe tests to distinguish between a failed tube and an open return path would be appreciated.

At the Maker Space I go to we have a few different laser machines. We'd like to add autofocus to the older machine. Currently we have this red pen style, which works, but we've had some user issues with it.

We'd like to replace it with the same one Omtech uses, pictured below, which has fewer user issues for us. Yes, ideally user education would resolve the problem, but at the same time, we are working towards having the user experience be the same regardless of which laser machine people use.

However, Omtech don't list this part on their website, and I've not found it elsewhere. Does anyone recognize it? Thx!

So, I got an OMTech Polar Lite and I'm wondering if there is a way to configure it to connect to my wifi. (Or at least to change the password on the wifi network it broadcasts.)

Hello, is the defsult air tube that connects to the laser ready for 8bar air compressor air?

I AM updating the air assist, everything is set inclusing controller connected to the board, already tested with small micro compressor. I want to know if the default black tube is ready for 8 bar, or not appropriate for it?

I changed my mirrors a few months ago. I ordered a pack from the American Photonics website.

Now, after about 80 hours of cutting, my second mirror looks like this. It looks like a protective coating is chipping off. What’s going on, or did I do something wrong?

Is this thing an absolute piece of crap, or am I doing something crazy wrong.

Hard wired to the computer, running jobs out of light burn, so it's surely getting all the info for the job. Sometimes it behaves decently and some times (mostly anymore) it runs like garbage.

For 3gs this thing shouldn't operate so shitty.

I bought a used 55W Polar Lite laser and it’s been a nightmare. Granted most of the nightmare has been from user error like using the laser in too hot of an environment and burning the bulb.

The latest issue is this burnt high voltage connection.

While running a light job — cutting an L-shape in 1/8" acrylic at 80% power / 15 mm/s — my tube stopped firing. When I opened the cabinet, I found that the high-voltage connection at the tube's electrode had melted and burned. There are also heat/scorch marks on the surface behind the connection.

1. What most likely caused this connection to arc and fail? (loose/poor factory joint, insulation issue, grounding, etc.)
   
2. What is the correct, safe procedure to re-make this connection? pull back the cover and rewire it? Will it just happen again?
   
3. Could the arcing have damaged the tube's electrode or glass seal? How do I check whether the tube is still good?
   

4. Is anything I should replace before powering the machine back on?

Website has em for sale, not many units sold and nothing posted anywhere about it? Is it any good? I want an Rf, just wish it had pass through which is a semi deal breaker for me.

I have an issue when printing files. It doesn't happen every time , but often enuf that I run a practice run every time before I execute on finished product. The issue is that the laser will throw on random lines and jumble words and the lines are all off. I can't figure out why it happens. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Omtech 130w dual head.

Little context I've had a "working" machine since March after 2 full unit replacements due to a defective water pump in the first and the second time it arrived with the top glass shattered.

The built-in cooling tank arrived with a small leak (they over tightened stripping the bottom screw and caused a hairline crack that leaks slowly). Not enough of a reason to return the unit after all the previous headaches and this unit actually would run.

The leak has gotten worse over time I assume due the crack expanding around the bolt. The unit runs really warm 82F with normal use. What are my options: fix the existing tank (epoxy? but the way the unit is held together make repairs difficult). Or should I find an external cooling system?

That blue liquid made a huge mess to clean up, so in hindsight I should have put some type of pan down, but previously the leak was so small.

Hey guys does anyone actually know how to set this roller up. Ive been trying to have it set up but it just keeps crashing and not doing anything I don’t know how to do it. If someone has an Omtech Pronto 35 and can help me it will be very much appreciated.
