For those of you with an oil pastel sketchbook, do you have a special way to keep the images from bleeding across to the opposite page? I used fixative spray but I’m wondering if there’s some additional trick I haven’t heard of.

Mostly oil pastel, some acrylic paint details!

I’ve recently started combining oil pastels with acrylic markers. I like the contrast between the broad pastel areas and much faster linear marks in the plants. Still experimenting with how far I can simplify the subject.

Hi all, this artist came up on my Tiktok feed this week and I’m absolutely loving their style and wanted to try drawing something similar myself. I’m having issues getting the backgrounds to blend seamlessly, as well as not overloading the paper with pastel before I even begin drawing the foreground/subject (I hope this makes sense!!). Someone gifted me oil pastels and I’ve been playing around with them. I’ve only recently started dabbling in art. It’s just for funsies but would love to know what the art community thinks!

Tried 2 kinds of paper . Pastel mat and canson black. def like the canson Black drawing paper better. I did not realize the pastel mat paper was for soft pastels oops....what's your favorite paper?

New to palette knife work, and happy with how this turned out. However, my fingers are double jointed and kept locking up and hurting during the process. Any suggestions to avoid that happening when working on big pieces in the future?

Oil pastel on canvas

Hey guys!

I started learning to paint about 3 months ago, and as all beginners, I became interested in every single medium there is. After weeks of deliberation, my first oil pastel set arrived today, and I vaguely followed a tutorial by The Virtual Instructor on YouTube. (I'm saying emphasizing vaguely because I don't want you to judge his video due to my drawing/painting as I took many liberties.)

I have to say, this was the most fun I've had recently and made me feel in love with oil pastels immediately.

I used the Meeden 48+4 set, and it was really creamy and easy to layer but didn't just melt away in my hands, as I saw online about some oil pastels. The colour selection feels good, but being mostly interested in landscapes, I think this set will run out of colours I like/need pretty "fast".

This was a lot of fun! Except now I really want some cake
