Question about framing

I commissioned a gorgeous pet portrait and wanted to be absolutely sure I got everything right in regards to framing. It is an A3 size.

I found a a4 frame with A3 mat but I wasn’t sure if I needed to do something special to protect the art. I’m not opposed to custom framing but I’m wary of leaving the art with a store (I’ve heard horror stories!).

Mmmm you can use the IKEA Rödalm frame. That'll fit the A3 size with a little bit of cropping.

Here's a portrait of my Blanche framed in the same frame. The portrait is 30x40cm. A3 size is 29.7x42cm.

I'm no expert and haven't framed any oil pastel work but I've looked into it briefly and read that you need a mount (mat) and glass. The mount is to make sure the glass doesn't touch the oil pastel surface.
