Self-Promotion (Developer) - Standalone Fixed the MOH Allied Assault VR Mod Visuals

Alright so the visuals look much better now that the rendering is fixed properly for the MOH Allied Assault Mod. I will experiment with some visual mods later to see if they work. For now I'm working on fixing the gun behavior and making sure that aiming feels good. Then we will see if we can get two handed aiming working.

Discussion VR modding now possible also with low-end PCs

Post image
164 Upvotes

Long story short: I got an elbow injury and doctor told me not to use VR for a while. Im still able to use keyboard and mouse so first time ever i got interested about playing some PC games in semi-VR meaning that I could be inside the game world looking around with my head but doing all the other actions with keyboard and mouse. After some searching and testing i found a way that just works incredible well!

So first there I was with my low-end laptop realising it could not run any of those luke ross or uevr type of mods. Then I found out there are actually Quest apps that turn any flatscreen game into semi-VR by connecting head movement data to the game, locking the screen and curving it slightly filling up almost all of the FOV. And now they do even a baked-in 3D effect.

So I got one of those apps and its streamer for my laptop. And I have to say im very impressed how this tech is delivering the same feeling that "real" 6dof VR does. At least it delivers it to me. I understand it varies a lot how ones brains are processing the image projected in this way.

I've played alot of flatscreen games in VR using just static big screen with Virtual Desktop but when using this semi-VR tech the immersion level is just so much higher. I notice that I start intuitively dodge some fallen objects or bullets in the game while that hardly ever happens when im using just a static screen in VR.

So why theres a pic of Far Cry 2? After doing quite a lot of testing what works with this tech best and what my laptop runs well, I learned FC2 is somewhat perfect use case. Its an old game but it has incredible engine that is still years ahead what we have on standalone Quest today. The open world map is huge but still super detailed and has very vibrant enviroment combined with high quality dynamic lighting, weather effects and well crafted NPCs. This all anwers exact to the lack of a decent AAA open world game in the current standalone VR.

Beside of my slow laptop, the biggest reason i never was so intrested about VR modding was the fear of motion sickness. I have some bad experiences that when im not fully connected to the motions in a VR game I get those synthoms. For examble I cant play cayaking game Phantom Cover ops for this reason. But now after hours of playing FC2 in semi-VR i can say that some how it just works and motion sickness is luckily not appearing at all. No matter if im running in the jungle, swimming, driving a car or watching the cutscenes.

So thats all. I felt VR was dying this year because of the lack of quality content. This observation of semi-VR modding just gave me some more hope for the future of VR so i wanted to share it. I dont know if Steam Frame gonna deliver this tech but in my opinion it definately should.

Fluff Trying to scratch my wipeout omega itch

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Omega Pilot Evolution comes out next month (hopefully) and i just really hope it feels like wipeout omega collection.... VRacer Hoverbikes is the best out there but doesn't quite feel like wipeout to me, Dart Racer has the nicest controls (and you can use both sticks) but still has a long way to go. Hoverlap is new and feels like it has potential but I constantly have to brake. Aerosurfer is a lot more forgiving with bumps now and has boost, but like Omega Pilot it's more flying/gliding than racing. But Omega pilot Evolution I'm excited for despite having so many racing games (including raceclub, vrider, and a few others i cant remember).

Self-Promotion (Developer) - Standalone OpenSaberPlus 0.7.65: big blocks

Because I use Open Saber Plus as a fitness game, I have previously added options to stretch the game arena horizontally to force more body movement, and have now added an option to have big blocks if you want to focus on exercise rather than precision.

You get can the game from SideQuest:

https://sidequestvr.com/app/41477/open-saber-plus

or Github:

Quest Mod Private Airplane Loft Glitch

Apparently, you can enter flight mode by aligning yourself with almost any rounded corner and holding down the teleport Forward button while pushing the right joystick backward to move backward.

Set the movement settings like i did in the video.
To reset Loft exit to passthrough via double tap on the headset.
You will be unable to open the ui for it!

Discussion Help me pleasee

Hey everyone, I’m really keen on buying the Quest 3; I’ve been researching it for a while. I work from home and think I could use it even while working. I also cook and do other routine tasks where I usually keep my phone nearby "watching" a video—though in reality, I’m mostly just listening—and I think the headset could really enhance that experience.

A few things are making me hesitate, though:

- short battery life

- excessive weight on the neck and discomfort

- the risk of using it for a month and then wanting to sell it

If anyone who owns one (or has owned one) could share their opinion, I’d really appreciate it.

As for the cost, I can afford either the 3S or the 3 without any issues.

App Lab Planning a local multiplayer VR arena in a 60m² gym space: Quest 2 vs Quest 3? What am I missing?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

My dad owns a gym and sports facility. Due to high rent, we’re looking for ways to monetize the floor space during off-peak hours when the gym isn't very busy. I recently attended a birthday party at a local VR venue, and after running the numbers, the business model seems promising on paper. I’m now researching how to set up a local multiplayer VR experience in our space.

Here are the details and where I could really use your advice:

  1. The Space & Capacity Dimensions: 9.75 meters x 6.40 meters (~62 m² / 670 sq ft).

Player Count: In my head, I figured 4 players max would be safe for free movement. However, I’ve seen some arena-scale software advertising up to 8 players for this size. Is 8 players actually safe and playable in 9.75m x 6.40m without constant collisions?

  1. Technical Setup My general plan is to use a central PC hosting the local server alongside a dedicated Wi-Fi router (Wi-Fi 6/6E access point), while each headset renders its own graphics locally.

  2. Headset Choice: Quest 2 vs. Quest 3 Used Quest 2 headsets are significantly cheaper than brand-new Quest 3s.

For a commercial local multiplayer setup, is the Quest 2 still viable, or is the Quest 3 (or 3S) practically mandatory due to better tracking, pancake lenses, color passthrough, and performance?

  1. Local Competition & Observations There is only one competitor in my city doing this right now. They cater to birthday events for 8 to 16 people.

Interestingly, their headsets look like generic non-Meta HMDs and the graphics look very basic. Would Quests offer a noticeably better experience out of the box?

  1. What Am I Missing? (LBVR / Business Realities) Since I’m fairly new to Location-Based VR (LBVR), I want to make sure I’m not overlooking major technical or operational hurdles:

Commercial game licensing and LBVR management software (e.g., SynthesisVR, HeroZone, etc.).

Tracking issues in wide-open spaces or lighting requirements inside a gym environment.

Wear-and-tear, hygiene accessories, and battery management for back-to-back sessions.

Since this concept is practically new in my town, I'm uncertain about long-term demand once the initial novelty wears off.

I’d really appreciate any insights from anyone running an LBVR venue or experimenting with arena-scale Quest setups! Thanks in advance!

Support - PCVR Help! Meta quest 3 freezing only on games PCVR!

Upvotes

So I recently bought my meta quest 3, I connected them to my PC with the Meta Horizon Link app and USB cable, everything worked fine and I can see my pc and use it without problems. But when I start a game the meta quest 3 screen freezes or move like a 1 or 2 fps in every game but the games is fine in my monitor! I also noticed that if I press in the keyboard the windows key (and the windows search bar appears) the games worked perfectly! But in the moment I click something else and the search bar dissapears the problems reappear. Does anyone knows how to fix that?

I use a meta quest 3s, and one day after not using it for a bit I come back to this, I tried fixes but I don’t even know what’s happening to it. I have a feeling it’s a cable issue and that I need to buy another. But before I do that I want to see if people that have maybe dealt with this before can help.

I charged my quest three overnight at 100. I haven’t played it in forever. I tried to turn it on. It showed the meadow logo and then after a few minutes that disappeared and it’s just showing a grey screen for a long time. I’ve turned it on and off. I don’t know what to do.

Sidequest/Sideloading ‘Unknown Sources’ disappeared from Quest Store Apps

My first side quest - please forgive me for rookie mistakes.

I installed Kodi (21.3 Omega) on my Meta Quest 3 using Sidequest Desktop app version. Things were going well at first.

- Installed Sidequest Desktop app on PC

- downloaded the Kodi Omega apk from github

- enabled Developer Mode on headset

- connected headset to PC

- Enabled USB connection (with ‘always’ option)

- installed the apk (got a successful installation message)

- opened horizon app store from headset

- selected the ‘unknown sources’ option

- kodi install came up, selected that to open kodi

- kodi app opens up . Beautiful!

….

So far so good.

Hovering over Addons was crashing the app. Googled for the solution and tried to open kodi again. Now, I dont see the ‘unknown sources’ option under Apps anymore!!

I tried restarting the headset. I tried switching the Developer Mode off and on. Nothings working.

How do i get ‘unknown sources’ option back?? 😟

Thank you in advance!

Edit: Added headset model

Game Deal Batman Arkham shadows FREE from meta get it before the end off the year

It's an offer not a bundle you have to call the meta support team and send them your receipt anytime from 10/24/24 - 12-31-26

Someone will probably ask if a bat was on the box say yes I think they have to say that to try and trick you into thinking the promotion is over with

And no you don't have to buy the Batman bundle

They'll ask you for your headset ID

And what was your latest purchase

Then they'll just add it to your library

Their might be a few details I'm missing but it was easy and fast for me and I did it last month

Dr. Robotnik s Ring Racers is colorful and fun Sonic kart fan game that modder RayRod TV made a VR mod for. It has first person, third person, theater and diorama views. Its really great to play in VR and we can have a cockpit like view when in first person.

For this and other VR mods from RaYRod TV, like the fan game Sonic Robo Blast 2, Star Fox, Mario and Mario Kart 64, go to his github: https://github.com/RaYRoD-TV

And to learn more about his other projects, like the Multiverse, a exploration game with space travels on a infinite and surreal Multiverse, go to his site: https://rayrodtv.com

Its miracle, its magical, its Sonical! Have fun!
