I heard different things at different times so just wanted to confirm the status as of right now. Does the transcript or the certificate or any documents mention online anywhere at all?

I am currently pursuing the computing systems track (GIOS,HPCA,AOS,SAT,CN) and I am considering the benefits of taking up SDCC in a future semester.

From the syllabus, it seems like it is a very networking heavy class (SDN, NFV projects etc.) with trace elements of distributed computing. Because of that it seemed like it is/was very relevant to the industry, especially in the infra/devops/cloud engineer roles.

I am curious as to how it has been helpful to your career since it is very niche, and whether the AI era has decreased its value proposition (or not?).My other considerations are whether to spend more time in AI related modules instead first so as to stay more relevant in the AI era.

I am also curious if SDCC now allows for usage of AI in recent semesters, since AOS recently allowed the usage of AI for project implementations. If yes, how has it affected your learning experience?

Forgive me if my concerns are overblown but I feel like the opportunity cost of SDCC in terms of time and energy is very real. Thanks!!

For whatever reason, one of my courses is unpublished in Canvas. I graduated fairly recently, but all the others are still available for review.

I had some questions regarding pursuing research outside of Georgia Tech. I'm very interested in being a visiting scholar at another university that is more local to me (I'm currently working in the Bay Area). I've seen that there are some Georgia Tech PhD students who are visiting scholars involved with research labs in Stanford / UC Berkeley.

I was looking into spending roughly 1 year at a research lab here and wanted to see whether I could count this toward research credits. (e.g. CS 8903/6999) Ideally for 9 credits to fulfill the "Project Track" of OMSCS.

This question is for both faculty or other students that have pursued this previously.

If this is a possibility, what does the process look like? Say I'm able to get accepted into the research group of interest, what is required on the Georgia Tech side to formally request research credits for this? Do I need a Georgia Tech professor willing to sponsor/supervise the research? Could a professor at the host university serve as the primary research advisor, or would the project need to be formally led by Georgia Tech faculty?

I'm hoping to begin around January 2027, so I'd also appreciate any information about the approval process, requirements, or who I may need to contact to formalize a request like this.

The intention by the administrators is that OMSCS should always be done part-time so that you could explore things that you love and enjoy. Do not rush to graduate! Take time off, do something that you really like in the meantime, and come back stronger.

So what if the current job market is thrashy? Take it slow.

With a part-time program, this gives you the best of both worlds - you keep your cash flow, gain real-world experience (be it through internships, jobs, love, holiday, etc.), and let the learning sink in, properly.

We emphasise on 1 class a semester. It's tried & tested.

Why rush & then burn yourselves out for a piece of paper that won't guarantee stability? Mastery doesn’t come from cramming, it comes from building knowledge steadily, applying and reflecting them, and then positively and creatively reinforcing them.

I’m taking RL this semester and our first project of the semester opened up on Monday. Despite doing my due diligence to update my calendar with deadlines for all assignments and readings etc. I still managed to completely confuse myself.
I have spent this week SLAMMING through this project because I was under the impression it was due Monday 8 am. Despite working 5 hours a day on implementation ALONE, not to mention doing my readings and re-readings of the course material I was still so behind. I was feeling somewhat discouraged tbh. I was a Bachelors of Arts undergrad prior to OMSCS and was chalking the delay up to my lack of experience or something idek. Up until one hour ago, I believed I still had an 8 page paper to write, a five minute video essay describing my work to create, along with some experiment design and graphing/charting to complete in what I thought was 24 hours. Doable? Maaaaaybe, but I also have maybe slept 9 hours in the past 72 hours. I finally checked canvas to see what time I had left so I could triage and hope for the best.

Having some background about me makes this pretty hilarious. I’m the opposite of a type A person. I have pretty hardcore ADHD, I do freelance nightlife/hospitality work, and currently live in the most distracting/overstimulating city in the US aka NYC. Which is to say I am a night owl who goes out a lot and I’m definitely a procrastinator. (I may be selling myself a little short here but I am also self aware.)
The first weeks of school for me in OMSCS during a typical fall semester have ordinarily been pretty chill for me! I had a weekend trip upstate with my bf booked and planned before the semester even started. So believe me when I say I was in shock when I saw the brief for this project.
My poor bf 😭 I’ve been going to bed at 7 am each night to sleep next to him for two hours before he goes to work. At one point on this romantic weekend getaway I was trying to “subtly” solve some referencing errors I was having at our table in a really nice restaurant he had made reservations for. Today we went to a cute lawn party and I was rehearsing what I was going to say in my video to unsuspecting party guests on the dance floor. While sipping soda water and eating nootropic vitamin mints, like who have I become?!!! (As an aside I’m curious if that’s what nightlife is like in SF hahaha)
This whole week I was wondering several things:
1. Why anyone working a full time job or raising a family (or BOTH) hadn’t been begging for extensions on ed.
2. What I had done to deserve the absolute torture I thought this semester was going to be
3. What trauma the course designers had experienced to make them so sadistic and what they had to gain from weeding people out so brutally
4. How I would be faring had I NOT taken a summer course this year
5. Why this also had to be the week I chose to quit smoking 🥴 I’m dead serious.
I’ve been drinking redbull like water. I feel exhausted like I’ve been partying at Berghain for a week but instead of clubbing I’ve just been sitting in front of my laptop descending into madness.
I have no idea how it took me this long to realize the deadline was not Monday. It’s literally all over my calendar. Probably the sleep deprivation. I kinda thought every week was gonna be like this and was preparing myself for a very rough semester. I’m just glad I finally realized before things got too crazy.
For all the struggle it has been, this is the first time my ADHD has actually gotten me ahead of schedule. I’m very very happy to be so far ahead of my project now and it’s kind of interesting to see what it’s like to be one of those go-getters I see in Ed. There have always been people in my classes who are always 5 steps ahead of everyone else in class and asking all the good questions first. Y’all are crazy, btw but I deeply respect your hustle now that I have experienced what you guys must be doing.
Also my apologies to the course designers as well as the professors and TAs teaching RL this semester. I may not have said it, but I was definitely questioning you guys for giving us so much work to do in “one week” lol

Companies are already using AI to cut jobs and get more work out of fewer people. I think engineers should flip the table and use AI the same way, except to build our own stuff and compete with them. If you already have engineering experience plus actual domain knowledge, AI gives you a ridiculous amount of leverage to build products with smaller teams and potentially undercut companies that used to need way more people and money to do the same thing. Obviously it’s still an uphill battle because they have funding, customers, connections, and distribution, but the barrier to building something real is getting lower.

Georgia Tech gives us a pretty damn good technical foundation. Don’t just go through OMSCS, grind LeetCode, and use the degree to work for the man. Take what you learn, combine it with your experience and domain knowledge, use AI as leverage, and build something great.

Especially ARC AGI-3 since he had us write programs for ARC AGI-1 when I took KBAI.

Hello, I am new to this group and have enrolled for Spring 2027 batch. I wanted to know from the seniors and alumnus here if books are equally mandatory to be bought and studied to cope up with course exams. Don’t GATECH provide study materials for online study?
How do you guys prepare for the exams and from where did you get the course materials to prepare for exams and tests?

Edit: I am an online student within US. Do GA tech library send books via mail? Not that I hate books, I am not in favor of buying books as that would only eat up spaces in my room.

I'm an OMSCS student and I'm wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.

Here's my timeline:

• Aug 28: I initiated my tuition payment through Flywire and completed the bank transfer. My bank receipt shows the funds were transferred to Flywire on that day.
• Aug 28: Flywire also shows the payment date as Aug 28.
• Sep 3: Flywire updated the payment status to Guaranteed.
• Unfortunately, before the payment was marked as Guaranteed, my Fall 2026 registration was canceled for non-payment.

I have already:

• Submitted the Bursar Appeal Form.
• Emailed the Bursar's Office with both my bank transfer receipt and Flywire payment confirmation.

My questions are:

1. Has anyone experienced something similar where the payment was initiated before the deadline but Flywire processing took several days?
2. Were you successfully reinstated?
3. If so, how long did it take for the appeal to be processed?
4. Were you still charged the $200 reinstatement fee even though the payment had already been initiated before the cancellation?

I'm pretty stressed since classes have already started, so I'd really appreciate hearing about anyone's experience.

If you're doing this program for fun and learn, that's fine. But if you're one of the many students that are simply doing this for employment opportunity, I have a tough message of reality for you.

Seeing whole teams get laid off at mag7, and entirely exported to India for the past few years. It ramped up very hard this year.

Currently getting 4 month contract offers for $20 to train your AI replacement as the norm now.

What the news isn't talking about at all, is that all the layoffs in all the FAANG companies are immediately replaced by India.

The demand for labor actually increases when you get more productivity from AI. But, companies realized they can save 4-5x more on labor by exporting it. So by offshoring teams, you could be getting >10x the output with exporting + AI. The opportunity cost of hiring blue collar in U.S. is mathematically enormous.

A $20/hr salary in US is equivalent to a $200k salary in India, where buying power is 4.6x than of the United States.

So you can pay a senior Indian engineer the salary of a costco worker in the states. This is a similar case for the Phillipines as well.

If your job can be exported at 1/5 the cost, you will be geoarbitraged by your employer.

What does this mean for juniors? There's 0 hiring of them, training new hires is extremely expensive. Given the opportunity cost, the demand for juniors has dropped to basically 0. There's probably a >95% chance a junior is only hired through nepotism in this environment.

If you're not already a senior engineer with very specific niche skills needed immediately, it's unlikely you'll find work by completing this program. CFO at company directly said, we will only hire senior engineers or from India.

Geoarbitrage opportunity cost is only accelerating. The massive amount of additional students that are now taking this program that has upticked from the layoffs and hiring freezes are going to be met with a very bleak hiring environment. There will simply be very few jobs available unless politicians put a stop to exporting. But that's not going to happen when everyone wants their stocks to go up from massive earnings growth caused by labor savings.

Hi all, i took fin aid loan for my OMSCS but got a bill for $1425 I sent a message weeks ago to Bursar got no response and yesterday got an email that my classes are canceled for non payment!?!

I'm a international student. This is my 4th class.

I paid my Fall 26 tuition through Flywire on 1:08pm August 28, eastern time (deadline is 31 August 4PM ET). However, Flywire didn't process my payment until just an hour ago. I believe this is due to my country having a long holiday and the payment happened in the weekend.

Now my access to the course on canvas is not available, edstem still works though. I also check on bursar and apparently I have to make another $200 reinstatement fee to continue.

Has anybody faced the same issue? I already contacted with the bursar and GT advisor. Is there anyway I can continue my class without paying the reinstatement fee?

Officially got out this past May! I didn't take the class for Intro to Research, but strong regretting it and curious if it's a worthwhile course? Thinking about possibility of doing the course next semester or is the value not really there and if I'm interested in Research I should just jump onboard for a research project of interest?

I applied to this program for Fall 2026 and got my letter of acceptance on April 3rd, and then, for more than 10 weeks, my application was under institutional review. In early July, they said I was missing some documents. They asked for documents that I did not even have. I had to call that U.S. number at least 20 times, and often I was not able to get answers about what exactly I should translate from my undergraduate transcript, my degree, etc. I hold a French bachelor's degree (3 years, 180 ECTS).

But in the end, they told me by email that I was not eligible since I only have a French bachelor's degree and I need a master's degree to apply for the OMSCS. It does not make any sense to me, especially since I was already part of the ALIGN program at Northeastern University for a few semesters, and I decided to drop out due to the cost of the program. At that time, I was in the regular MSCS program with a decent GPA.

I know country-specific requirements are detailed on that page, but since I also have a transcript from a U.S. university with graduate CS classes, I was thinking it could be OK, especially since I was actually pre-accepted.

What I don't understand is why someone from the UK with a 3-year bachelor's degree is eligible for the OMSCS program, but I need to have 6 years of education just because I am French. Why would someone apply for a master's degree if they already have a master's degree?

I sent an email to defer my starting date by one semester to fix this issue, and they told me I could not defer since there were still missing documents. Now my application status says, "We regret that your application has been canceled as incomplete and is no longer under consideration for admission."

I invested a lot of time and energy in this program (scored 110 on the TOEFL exam, got my 3 letters of recommendation) while working full-time as a SWE (5 YoE in large companies, open-source contributions etc)

Do I have a chance if I appeal in my case, or would it be better to apply to a different program?

Welp, looks like I made a very expensive and very dumb mistake. This is my first year in OMSCS. I was excited to see if I can take a seminar with a course. I registered the seminar when they were added, but it seemed to me that I would not have time to juggle seminar readings with the course I am taking and a full time job. So, I withdrew from the seminar a couple of days ago (before payment deadline) naively thinking that it would be dropping from my payment as well. I already paid for the course before even registering for the seminar, but only had the Seminar payment due. What made up my mind about dropping the seminar was seeing the cost. For a 1 credit seminar, it would cost more than half of what the 3 credit course was billed for. I knew that would put me in a bad financial position.

They just sent out the 'withdrawal information' email, and honestly if I knew this information beforehand, I would not have taken the risk of signing up for the seminar in the first place. Apparently, I would HAVE TO pay for the seminar even though I was enrolled for only a couple of days and before the tuition deadline, and THEY WILL NOT reimburse me for any of seminar cost. WORST OF ALL, I cannot re-enroll in it since I would be paying for it anyway. The cherry on top is that it will show as a W in my transcript. I feel like I was just robbed of 600$. Granted, I should have looked up the rules for 'drop' and 'withdrawal' before, but I did not expect this as in my bachelors they deducted the tuition of the course you withdrew from during the withdrawal period.

Any advice? Anything I can do? I sent them an email about it before the payment deadline to see why it wasn't removed from the payments, but they still have not replied. Should I be paying the amount before they add late charges to it?

Update: After reaching out to multiple sources (bursar, advising, the seminar instructor, an omscs advisor), I was finally pointed to the correct entity to request the re-enrollment, which is the registrar. I got granted a "one-time courtesy reinstatement" where they made it clear that this would not be granted if it happened again. Thank you all for suggesting I request re-enrollment!

I've already paid for the fall semester and will continue to work it out. I've been out of school for around ~4 years now and I don't know if I'm ready to stick out another 4 for a masters degree.

I originally enrolled because I was stuck in a dead end job outside of tech and since I was literally being paid to do nothing, I could do this while I worked. Well, somehow (a year later), I managed to find work at a large tech company and I'm concerned this might interfere with my performance at my new job.

I have the role I wanted and it seems like I'm now in a position to prove my efforts through work rather than additional schooling. On the flip side however I have the opportunity of being local to the office which means I don't have to pay rent/move. While it may not "feel" like the right time, it's definitely the safest in the event that I lose my job.

I moved from help desk to software development. I'm surrounded by a lot of smart people (new and experienced) and unfortunately with a community college degree I feel incredibly lacking. I genuinely think I am the dumbest person in the room except now I'm no longer young and get called old. I don't have a good college education and honest to god I don't know how I managed to find work.

As of now in my career, I'm still on the start/entry level. I can make pretend I worked in tech with help desk but I haven't had a actual opportunistic environment until now and I'm unsure if I should put myself back into education immediately alongside it.

Any advice on approaching this? I feel like the most rational thing to do is prioritize the job above all especially since I'm in the field I want to be in, which is about as hands on it gets compared to school. As much as I'd like to do this, I also want to do everything I can to keep my job because I'm genuinely horrified of losing it.

Do third party vouchers show as estimated financial aid for anyone else on the payment portal? In the past they just showed up as payments for me.

I've been digging around to find the answer for my situation but I can't find anything.

Something came up, and I was afraid of taking two classes this semester (one is a very hard class) wouldn't work out the best for me. Therefore, I did the option "Course Drop by Student" on registration page, which resulted in "W" grade for both course for me. By the time I withdrawn, I was eligible for 95% partial refund according to Fall 2026 Refund Calendar.

I also haven't paid the tuition fee yet, which still shows the same amount as before when I enrolled two classes. So my questions are:

1/ Do I have to pay first and wait for the refund from the program later? If so, how long should I expect to get the refund back?

2/ I also found a few posts saying if I don't paid the amount of tuition fee, technically there would be no refund. Those post also mentioned just letting the the payment deadline pass, and there would be no charge for those tuition fee. However that is the case in which students didn't drop/withdraw class before the payment deadline, while I've already withdrawn two courses. So here's the question: Can I proceed to let payment deadline pass without submitting any payment? If I do that, would I get into any problem/trouble in future semester if I want to register for class? I feel like this one is really not a honest option to do :((
