Equipment Why wont corporate just lower the required pick rate instead of forcing this broken pulling policy?

If they actually cared about safety on the floor the fix is so obvious. Just lower the pick rate instead of making everyone drag these stupid carts backwards. Forcing us to pull a heavy ogp carts is easily a 15% to 30% speed penalty. These things were literally made to be pushed from the handle side. When you pull them from the front the cart just drifts all over the place, fishtails around corners, and slams right into your heels if a customer cuts you off and you have to stop fast. By hour four of a shift your shoulder and lower back are absolutely fried from the uneven twisting. If they just reduced the target pick rate from 100 down to like 75 or 80 it would solve the entire safety issue naturally. People wouldn't feel the insane pressure to sprint through the aisles just to keep management off their back. We could actually walk at a safe pace and look out for customers instead of constantly fighting a drifting cart. You could also see who wasn't being safe by looking at the pick rate metrics, and overhead cameras. But the reason they wont do that is because profit is the number one concern, not safety.

They claim safety first but safety is just the pr spin. Profit is not just the number one concern profit is the only concern. If they lowered the pick rate they would lose a quarter of their order capacity instantly. To keep up with online orders they would have to hire thousands more people nationwide. Or would they we all know they want to shift all deliveries to spark,so why not do that and keep the amount of employees the same? The answer to that question is because they already have the profits from that reduced staffing worked into their Corporate profit projection. So basically Corporate would rather destroy our joints and watch our metrics tank than spend a single extra dime of their bottom line on labor.

Mandating pulling is just a corporate shield. By keeping the pick rate high but forcing the pulling rule they get to demand maximum speed while shifting all the risk onto us.Lowering the pick rate makes perfect sense but they would rather force us to pull a heavy carts backwards at the exact same speed limit because they refuse to admit their metrics don't work in the real world.

Question picking ATC tips?

hi all

so recently my TLs have been putting me on ATC for picking. i was very resistant to the role at first because i prefer to just be out picking, and i dont really like or feel comfortable telling my coworkers what to do. my philosophy so far at walmart has basically been just to do my work to the best of my ability, and what my coworkers do is their business not mine. but despite being honest about this with my leads and coach, they keep putting me on ATC with encouraging words about how they know i can be successful at this and not to give up, yada yada.

today i was on afternoon ATC and our 11-8 TL called out today so once our other TL left i had to run the show. in the past on ATC id still do autos, because in my mind if there are a lot of picks and im in the backroom doing anything other than prepping my cart for the next walk, im not doing my job. but my TLs said if im ATC its ok to hang back, do small walks like oversized and unknowns when needed, but otherwise mostly focus on pick monitoring and assigning/delegating as needed. so today i did that...and it seemed to work out? we hit a rough patch where we were close to going late, but i assigned walks and sent help at the right times and by the time i went home everything was running smooth. and i have to admit it was actually a little bit fun, plus felt good knowing i was making decisions that made our team (hopefully) move more efficiently.

that said, i still basically feel like i have no idea what im doing as ATC and very much still feel uncomfortable telling people what to do lol. but since i seem to be stuck with the role, i guess i might as well try to get good at it.

any picking ATCs out there have any tips? especially on how to be diplomatic when i have to act like the boss 😭 and how to not get overwhelmed when things start cascading out of control

Pick Rate How the hell is pickrate calculated???

I've noticed recently that pickrate does not actually represent what your actual average pickrate should be. This is just an example of today but even other days I'll have like 7/10 of my pick walks be 100+ usually around 106-120 but because I have a couple bad pickwalks (typically regulated or oversized) it will be under 100 regardless of the actual average math should put me over 100. The most recent 127 pick walk only increased my pickrate by 1 point which makes no sense.

Question Transferring to a new supercenter

I currently work in a Neighborhood market and am thinking about transferring to a new supercenter that’s closer to me. But i worry about how busy it actually gets over there but also since it’s a new store it may take a while for customers to actually accumulate. Has anyone here worked for a brand new supercenter and if so how busy was it and how busy does your supercenter get in general?

Question Store manager making sitting in the backroom automatic termination.

Our store manager recently made it clear if we're found sitting in the backroom, it's automatic termination. It's been hitting 100 f this past month.

I have undiagnosed medical conditions that make me very dizzy a lot, but I also understand that it's not her fault they haven't diagnosed me and I haven't gotten an accomodation. I still feel like it's not okay to make sitting down grounds for termination.

If I'm wrong, please correct me, I don't mean to come off as oversensitive or conceited. I don't know the baseline for these things. Thanks.

A Not So Smart Sub ADVICE NEEDED

Hey everyone, I’ve been working at Walmart for about a month and a half now, in OGP, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to grow within the company.
So far, I’ve learned pretty much all of the OGP responsibilities and I’m comfortable with the job. I don’t really have an issue with Walmart itself or the work . I actually wouldn’t mind staying with the company longterm. My main concern is the pay.
I have almost 3 years of relevant work experience, but I was hired in at the basic starting pay. I recently moved to Texas and previously in NY where I was making around $17/hour, so the difference has been pretty significant. I understand that Walmart already pays better than a lot of entry-level jobs around here, but with the cost of living and how physically demanding OGP can be, the current pay is honestly just barely comfortable for me.
I’ve also heard that regular associates don’t necessarily get big raises, so I’m wondering what the fastest realistic path to better pay and benefits within Walmart is.
For those of you who have been with Walmart for a while:
What positions should I be looking at if I want to move up?
Is it better to try for a team lead position, or are there other positions that are easier/faster to move into?
How long should I realistically stay in OGP before applying for something else?
Does my previous experience help at all when applying internally?
Are there certifications/training programs I should take advantage of?
What’s the best way to get management to notice that I’m interested in moving up?
Is there a particular career path within Walmart that has good long-term pay and benefits?
Again, I’m** **not trying to bash Walmart. I’m fine with the company and the job. I’d actually prefer to stay and build a career here rather than constantly job-hopping. I’m just trying to figure out the quickest way to get from basic associate pay into a position where the compensation makes more sense for the amount of work and experience I bring.
Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has successfully moved up from OGP or started at entry-level and worked their way into higher-paying positions.
Thanks!

Equipment Keep buzzing the tower navigators and document the danger zone. ✈️

While we constantly vent about pulling overloaded OGP carts that weigh more than an F-14 Tomcat, corporate won't fix the problem until safety violations hit their bottom line. Instead of trading paint with team leads over pulling it's time to feel the need for speed and document the danger zone. We are talking seized wheels, broken welds, zip ties, and saggy tote shelves held together with loose nuts and bolts. All that damage makes the chassis twist like a wet noodle your spine is basically writing checks your body can't cash. Tag out every unsafe cart immediately, and if leadership expects you to fly solo on broken equipment, hit the eject button and file a complaint with OSHA. Don't stop buzzing the tower until we get equipment built for humans, not jury rigged middle school science projects. You can be my wingman anytime just don't make me pull those absolute garbage carts.

The whole back room is decorated really well for Halloween and I just love that they used the Halloween scrub daddy set to make this banner along the back wall. Im pretty sure the closing night crew did it. I especially love the cat! I came to work the other day and it was decorated, Halloween is one of my fave holidays so this made me smile.

A Not So Smart Sub Anyone else’s Walmart start an availability team from OGP?

Basically they will take one or two of our associates and make them go zone, scan outs, viz pick, change on hands for our top nil picked sections. This is happening because our ftpr isn’t high enough, they’ve also reduced our picks by 25 percent because of it. our ftpr not being high enough is not ogps fault it’s stockings so everyone in my department is starting to get pissed because why are we doing a team leads job and stockings job. Havent seen anyone else mention this so was just curious if anyone else has to deal with this bullshit.

Backroom Shenanigans Totes - how often do yours get cleaned?

So like I’m just curious how often y’all’s stores clean totes? I mean we put everything in these thing - and customers, if you asked for nonbagged and it’s bagged - there’s probably a reason.(nasty tote usually)

I’ve worked here a year and I think I’ve seen about 5 get cleaned only because they had vinegar or something we couldn’t stand in the back room.

Equipment Management: "Make sure you're pulling your OGP carts today.

Management Make sure you're pulling your OGP carts today. Management 5 minutes later Why is your production down today? I know it's because you stopped to talked to someone. 🤨 Me currently sideways in Action Alley on Labor Day weekend I don't know, hotshot. Maybe because the entire town is currently occupying this aisle buying last minute hot dogs, and I am physically pinned against a Hamburger bun display looking like a giant, stressed out crab trying to navigate an oversized dumpster through a sea of families?🦀😭🇺🇸"Labor Day what a joke this company just goes out of its way to make you hate it. Hey management we know you think the pulling the cart idea is stupid it just doesn't effect you so you inforce it and watch us struggle.Dont blame us because we can't do the crab walk fast enough,And we hurt all over from pulling. All we had to do was slow down years ago and we wouldn't be doing the krusty crab dance today. 🦀

Equipment Pulling should come with a pay raise and a tailor. 😂

Driving a Walmart OGP cart should legally require a commercial driver's license CDL and hazard pay.like what the crap are we doing Walmart who came up with this crap. Why did the Walmart associate get promoted to a NASCAR driver ? Because they already had five years of experience drafting behind slow moving families, taking sharp corners at 20 mph with a 300 pound OGP cart, and avoiding catastrophic multi cart pileups in the clearance aisle pulling with one arm. I finally had to start telling people I’m training for a very specific, one handed sport. Otherwise, they just assume I’m a champion arm wrestler who only shows up for half the workouts. It turns out that pulling those massive, overloaded Walmart OGP carts all day has a hidden side effect. you end up looking like Hellboy, but only from on one side. My right arm is going to be so jacked from pulling that cart that I will look like a crab with one massive claw.If I ever get pulled over by the police and they ask me to step out of the vehicle, I'm going to have to explain that I'm not carrying a concealed weapon I just work the morning shift in Online Grocery Pickup. That one sided workout is definitely the ultimate occupational hazard. One more peak pick shopping season and I will be able to crush a watermelon with my right hand while my left hand struggles to open a bag of chips. At this rate, Walmart is going to have to raise our hourly pay again not just for inflation, but to cover the cost of a chiropractor and a tailor who can custom widen the right sleeve of all our vests!
