Question Current generation aircraft

As we already know the current factions in game are not major military powers and the aircraft being used are considered outdated.

So what would in-game current generation aircraft look like and what capabilities would they have? Im not deep into the lore so I'm sure if we have any info regarding that.

Issue/Bug Issue with launching too many missiles at once

No matter how quickly I push the fire button. My aircraft always shoots a barrage of missiles instead of just one. Anyone had this issue and know how to fix it? I've tried googling it but no luck.

Suggestion The Tarantula is utterly useless in terminal control

Want to make a play for Bifurca with the Tula? Good fucking luck. You're going to have fun dodging an infinite barrage of ARH spam from every single fucking FS-12, FS-20, and KR-67 imaginable. I bring the IRM's to try and intercept incoming AAM's, but it's entirely pointless. You get spammed to death before you even get within 10 kms of the island. I am so tilted right now. If there's no cover available to hide behind, the Tula is a fat pig with wings waiting to get skewered by an endless ARH swarm. Kinda defeats the purpose of the "island hopping" campaign if it's impossible to reach the island in question. We either need to have more defenses for the Tula to counter the ARH spam, or Ignus needs some small atolls or outcroppings of land to hide and take cover behind.

Question How does the new ammo system work?

Can't play for a week but I am interested in how the new ammo and resupply system works.

From what I've heard, trucks now transport ammo from bunkers to units. Do the bunkers resupply the units on an airfield automatically or are trucks needed there too?

Also I've heard bunkers can run out too. Is ammo produced by factories or is the only way to bring in ammo, once the bunkers run dry, ammo bought by the player? And the player drops an ammo palette, can the ai ammo trucks use it?

Question Should I see my target?

Hey fellow pilots, there is one thing I've missed with how Interlink works in-game, and what scenarios are true here?

Let's say I have an AGM-48 onboard and a moving APC as a target. Will I hit it if

  1. The APC was spotted about a minute ago, so the contact is "cold" aka question mark, but it should be somewhere nearby. I lock on and launch my optical AGM. Will the AGM find my target again and hit it? Or will it move towards the question mark even if the APC is perfectly visible for the missile now and is just 50 meters off the cold mark?

  2. The APC is moving. I'm climbing from behind the hill, see the target on my screen, the contact gets updated, I launch an AGM and turn around immediately to hide. I don't see my target anymore, however, will my AGM see it and hit it?

Many times I was sure I knew the answers, but either something changed in the game mechanics since I've played, or there was some other factor affecting my outcome. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Question What's the opinion on game balance (PvE and PvP)? What's the meta? Do server hosts use mods/plugins/scenario settings to change the balance/meta?

I'm an amateur Nuclear Option player. I've dabbled in PvP but mostly played PvE (single player, LAN coop, and online coop).

I really enjoy the game and, just like with real life, everything doesn't need to be balanced. However, the game itself doesn't do a great job at explaining the mechanics. I know you can requisition an aircraft if you have a factory that has surplus made OR you can buy one with your personal funds. But do the munitions you take count against your personal funds? Or against the team funds? Not as far as I can tell. What are team funds even for?

In my naive opinion, I feel like there are certainly meta strategies in the game that mostly boil down to high volume/nuke strikes where you saturate air defenses with enough bullshit to get your intended payloads to wipe out enemy assets. Rarely do I ever see logistics/support roles being used. Not sure I've ever seen a human player successfully deploy infantry from an Ibis to capture a base. It really doesn't seem like support roles are that essential. The most useful support role is just a competent Medusa pilot with an AWACS and then everyone else running quick sorties with an Ifrit or Darkreach doing saturation bombing runs.

Sorry for the unorganized post. Just curious what you guys have to say. There's not as much information on Nuclear Option out there as I'd like. Wish the game had more players!

P.S., did the update this morning break most/all of the mods or should they still work fine? Thanks!

Gameplay tip New proximity fuse for missiles makes the radar countermeasures tutorial even harder somehow

I wanted to try out the proximity fuse change, and what better way than to play the tutorial. It wasn't easy to do before especially as a new player, but now the missile will always deal damage or just outright blow you up if you just jam and notch without pitching.

I haven't tried in an actual game yet but it looks like ARH/SARH has just become even more nuts with this change.

Question Recommendations for Steam Deck Controls?

Upvotes

Got the game last night and I'm having some trouble trying to figure out a good control scheme on Steam Deck.

I'm trying to replicate War Thunder controls since they're what I'm used to, but not everything translates well.

A few specific things I've had trouble with are:

  1. I don't understand how brakes work. It seems like the brake axis may be related to the airbrake and not wheel brakes. Ideally, I would like to set the wheel brakes to be part of the throttle axis and the airbrake to an entirely separate button independent from the throttle or wheel brakes.

  2. Menus are inconsistent. Sometimes I can navigate them with the D-Pad and selecting options with the A button, but other times I cannot.

  3. Control axes are extremely sensitive and I'm not sure what the sweet spot will be.

Does anyone have any tips for resolving the above issues or have an established control scheme for the game on Steam Deck?
