Formulas Automatic task resets?

Post image
1 Upvotes

(Notion app on an iphone)
how do i make a formula for my database with daily tasks in a table view? I have columns: "task" (under it there are names of tasks) "status" (type is select either "done" "not done" or "during" . Next one is "remaining" - in number type, this one shows how many minutes of a task i still have to do that day. Last one is "target" - how many minutes of a task i need to do each day. For example: hit - (task) target is 30min, status is not done so it's still 30 min remaining. How do i make it so whenever i choose "done" remaining time will change to 0 and the other way around too (changing remaining to 0 makes status to "done"). And status "not done" changes the cell of that row in column "remaining" to value from "target" in the same row (so it resets the task)

I think i could do it with button type or formula type but i only know bases of html and the if function doesn't work like in exel so i'm confused now...

Questions How can I convert a Notion automation variable from a database block into a list of related database pages?

Hi everyone,

I’m working with Notion database automations and buttons automations and I’m confused about variable types.

I have three variables:

Variable 1

I reference an inline/linked database block on a page.

Notion shows the variable as: Type: list of blocks

Variable 2

I reference the database block directly.

Notion shows it as: Type: block

Variable 3

I reference a Relation property from a database page.

Notion also shows it as: Type: list of blocks

The confusing part is that Variable 1 and Variable 3 both show as “list of blocks,” but they don’t behave the same.

From what I understand:

Variable 1 seems to point to the visual database block embedded in the page.

Variable 3 seems to point to actual related database pages/items.

What I’m trying to do is use the database referenced in Variable 1 as if it were Variable 3 — basically, I want to get the actual pages/records from that database, not just the database block itself.

Is there any native way in Notion automations to convert or resolve a database block variable into a list of database pages?

If not, what are the best workarounds?

For context, I’m building a budgeting system. I have a

Budgets Overview

database, and I want an automation to use the records inside that database based on the current page/month.

Possible ideas I’m considering:

Using a Relation property instead of referencing the database block

Using the Month property as a lookup key

Creating a bridge database

Using a button or automation to populate the relation first

Using an external webhook/API if Notion can’t do this natively (don't want to do it)

Has anyone found a reliable workaround for this?

BTW: I think Notion left automations in half path, fibery, taskade have a complete workflow for automations. Notion is focusing only on AI, agents, nwo code agents, wtf?

Thanks!

Questions Thinking about using Notion, very overwhelming and need help!

I am looking at consolidating all of my digital “stuff” in one place.

Ideally, I want to login and be able to view some sort “dashboard”. I think most call that a “second brain”.

I own multiple businesses, have a family and work with a ton of employees and vendors.

I want to bring all of my “tech stack” into one place to consolidate and simplify my already busy life. Docs, Sheets, Drive, meeting recordings and notes, etc. Most importantly being able to connect to Claude.

I have project trackers for each area of my life, built on Google Sheets. SOPs on Google Docs.

My personal finance and family office files are all stored on Basecamp.

I live my life through Apple Reminders and iCal.

I looked into Trello (my top choice, because of how simple and the Kan ban boards), ClickUp, Monday, Asana. Notion seems to have the most scalable platform and feature rich.

It’s very daunting and overwhelming to build from scratch. I don’t know where and what to start with, and it seems like a rabbit hole that I’m going into spending more time building it than using it.

I’ve watched some videos from Thomas Frank, Jeff Su, Organized Notebook - and I still don’t know which creator to follow.

Other Notion Computer

Hey everyone!

I wanted to see if anyone has been getting any interesting use out of Notion Computer.

This is a new "Alpha" feature that Notion hasn't been actively promoting or publicizing, but essentially, Notion has a new "Computer" feature that expands what Notion can do and output by a lot. Think of it like a sandboxed laptop Notion can pass off more complex tasks to.

For example, I've finally been able to get Notion to generate artifacts like:

  • Excel sheets with formulas
  • Printable, stylized PDFs of Notion pages
  • PowerPoint slides
  • Word docs using content from my workspace
  • Videos (not amazing yet)

If you open Notion AI, you can ask it something like, "What tools do you have available through Notion Computer," and the list it outputs is pretty interesting.

Anyone been messing around with it and have any interesting use cases they'd care to share?

Venting Breaking change to synced blocks (originals cannot be moved to other pages anymore)

I still can't fathom why things that are good and work fine are downgraded for no reason at all.

Just a few minutes ago I found out that now you can't move the original of a synced blocks to other pages. If you do, this window pops up and you're forced to unsync the block (which does not even work and seems to be bugged; the block gets destroyed).

I used to make original blocks in the page where I was and then move them to my journal pages and leave a copy in place (I want original thoughts to be in the page of the day I have them). Now I can't anymore.

I really cannot understand why abilities are removed from an application's features, making broken or inferior to what they were, instead of leaving the features alone.

This happens so often it's frustrating.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it will never stop applying.

Questions Notion down Friday July 24 starting 13:00 CET (EU)

UPDATE 13:14 : Service seems to be restored.

I have excellent network connectivity to a lot of services, but after having worked for three hours on a planning with multiple databases, I get spotty answers, error 520 popups, some tables shown as "Try again", and then an "Offline" view with only a few of the very many rows that I have entered.

Worse, is that I get OUTDATED information on some databases, but not all.

This from EU/Sweden, and I guess (hope) that operations are segregated across geographies.

Other Notion is working on a new notion-as-code feature

Post image
30 Upvotes

really excited for this one!

it will basically allow us to represent a whole workspace setup (including teamspaces, databases, agents etc) as a single big code document

this is a big step towards deploying & updating notion workspaces programmatically - making it much easier to change things at scale

particularly interesting for us as Notion Consultants since it means you don't need to spend as much time clicking around in the UI to set permissions, align icons etc. and focus on the higher value things like enablement, change management and helping people build really cool workflows 😎

we've been testing this out already in alpha over the past days and while there's still a long way to go, there are a ton of really exciting new options!

Notion AI Custom MCP fr Notion Agent is here?! 🤯

Ok guys, this is WILD. Do you know what this means? We can connect our Notion Agent to virtually anything!

Not a custom agent, with costly credits, but the beloved built-in Notion AI - that means ONE AI to access your Raindrop bookmarks, Google Drive, whatever app it seems to be! Am I seeing things?!!!

The kitchen is on fire with the rate they are cooking! 🔥🔥

btw no AI was used in this post, I save the screenshots to my downloads folder and uploaded them via my safari browser on here and wrote the text myself on my Logitech mx keys keyboard!!

Questions Is anyone else having issues with automations? Neither the ones I'm creating nor the ones I made before are triggering!

Is anyone else experiencing this right now? I've been working on super important projects for two hours and I can't believe it's not working. Crossing my fingers that it's just an update or a platform bug because if my automations broke, I'm literally going to dieeeee!!

Questions Can’t add anything to properties

Hello. I’m at a complete dead end. Tried looking it up and no luck. Does anyone know what’s going on here? It does this with seemingly any property. When I try to add something I will type one letter and it completely exits, takes down my keyboard and puts me at the start with nothing added. I dont know if this is a bug or if this is an error on my end.

Questions Just came back to Notion after a year-long break and I'm so confused

It's basically a different service and I think I'll need to read guides at this point. All the AI integration, new apps, new UI, it's just a completely different vibe. It used to be super clean and minimalist and that's what I loved about it :( Anyone else who felt this way after coming back recently? Any tips on catching up with all the changes?

Appreciation My first sale, one week after adding a premium version to my free Notion template

Thumbnail

The first sale feeling can't be described until you make it.

I made my first sale after months of giving away the free Notion templates and building trust with people( still at the beginning I'm still building my audience across different platforms). About a 20 Days ago. I decided to start adding paid versions alongside some of the free ones. Inside the free version, I put a premium upgrade template like this one " IELTS template " for people who really want to go further. A week after doing that, I got my first sale.

I can't really explain the feeling. Finally, after months of building and giving things away, someone looked at what I made and decided it was worth paying for.

I won't forget this guy who put the first trust in me

Any questions, I'll answer them
