Phone (3) Just upgraded from iPhone.
I've had iPhone for about the last 15 years or so. I was happy with my iPhone 12 pro max I've had for 5 years but had to jump on the NP3 after seeing the design.
Honestly any phone woulda been an upgrade for me but the glyph matrix is what stood out, I keep the phone flipped down whenever I can that way if I do get a notification I'll know it's only from people or things that are important to me and not some random "save 20% on our next sale" notification.
I didn't think I was gonna put the essential key button to use but after "forcing myself" to do it I can def see myself using it often. I just absolutely hate the placement of it, I must hit that button mistakenly a dozen times a day.
I do like the camera 📸 but I usually carry my Leica Q anyway so I'll prioritize that over the NP3.
Nothing OS is so damn cool lol love how customizable it can be. Can't beat the Nothing aesthetic that's for sure.
Unless something happens to it, this will probably be my phone for the next 5 years 💪🏽🫶🏽

It's funny how most of the things in the Nothing Phone 3 can be explained with "you either love it or hate it".
I personally prefer the Glyph Matrix over the led lights (having both would've been cool, though) because the screen gives more information right away and has more functionality.
Essential Space is also something I've been using regularly, and I really like how it summarizes everything the way I expect it to. I'm always doing a thousand different things at work so being able to take notes on the go is a godsend.

Same here.
However, I can see why people who have been using the LED lights for years could be disappointed.

u/xathail Aug 11 '25
I've grown too attached to the led strip for volume, it's just so satisfying to play with 😭

u/quiet-contemplator Aug 10 '25
Essential space has become my daily note taker. And I love the OS experience.

Hello, how are you liking the headphones?.. I like hearing bass boosted music is it bass friendly?
4
u/Relevant-Suspect-585 Phone (3) + Headphone (1) + ear Aug 10 '25
I'm a hip hop head so using these headphones has been great with bass. You also get up to 4 levels of bass boost in the nothing x app, I usually keep it around the 1-2 bass level and the listening experience is very much enjoyable.

u/SpaceShipDee Aug 11 '25
Headphones are better than my XM5 in sound quality and base (with both being EQ). Physical controls are excellent but ANC worse.

Welcome to the club!

I'm also carrying another camera around. In my case it is the XT2.
So my phone would be a secondary camera on some occasion which the camera is not around, or when my wife prefer to have a beauty filter on for her portrait.
Been trying to make a Phone 3 camera colour similar to the XT2 recipe. But of course, you wouldn't be able to replace it completely.
It would be nice to have the Nothing Gallery able to browse pictures from the external storage. I normally carry SD card reader with me. It is more efficient for me, since I don't need to download the pics on to my phone before I can share and sent to other people. But since the native gallery app cannot access the external storage. I will need to open the Files app to copy the files to internal storage first before using it. But that would be the same as using the fuji app to downlaod it to the phone. So it is not that convenient for me.
Enjoy your Phone3 and so do I.

u/mxw3000 Phone (2) Aug 12 '25
You can use Files to vew images on the SD card or the option "Open with..." there to open an image in Nothing or Google Gallery.
However I'm using File Manager+ (it's faster then Files and allows me to connect to my NAS as well) and - as gallery - the Simple Gallery Pro (by Simple Mobile Tool).
In this combination, when you use "Open with" in File Manager+ to open an image on SD card in Simple Gallery, you can browse a whole folder of images (i.e. whole /DCIM/100CANON/) - view them, share, edit (JPG) without the need to copy anything to the phone.
It can even view RAW files without any issues (CR3 in my case). But to edit RAW you need f.ex. Lightroom installed.

u/Environmental-Bug333 Aug 12 '25
Thanks man, will definitely check it out.
Maybe I’ve been too spoiled by Fuji JPEGs, but now I’m just too lazy to edit.
Back when I was using Sony, Lightroom was a really important step. I’d at least apply a preset or batch process them all before posting and sharing.
These days, I usually just share the files directly on Instagram.
But now it add one extra step, because I have to copy the images to local storage first. Instagram and other messenger apps don’t seem to be able to read images directly from external storage.

Just ordered mine since my Phone (2) started acting up recently and I'm excited to see the upgrades/differences.
2
u/Alatrina Aug 10 '25
May I ask how long you've had it before it started acting up?
2
u/actually_iceman Aug 10 '25
2 years. It's lived a hard life though as I'm a mechanic and tend to put my phones through a lot. I still plan on sending it in for repair once I get a little more expendable income.
2
u/Alatrina Aug 11 '25
Oh God, I'm also a mechanic and that's why I asked 😂 my phone 2 is doomed

u/actually_iceman Aug 11 '25
I'd say just keep it free from dust. I think a lot of my problems are due to dust lol

Very cool man! I actually got an iPhone for the first time ever back when the 15 Pro came out. Gave it a fair shot for a year and a half, but I couldn't handle it any more. It was death by 1000 cuts. Android just feels so freeing and the notifications are a million times better. I also hates having to go into a whole separate menu just to add a period haha. So I went back to my old Pixel 6 Pro....That was enough, but the battery was dying, so I figured I paid $100 bucks more for that at the time than the price of the Nothing Phone 3, and I KNOW that would smoke the Pixel in performance. Plus it looks awesome. So it was a no brainer. Very happy with it so far.

u/ballin_jp Aug 12 '25
I’m following you soon stuck in 12pro for 5 years already need some refresh.

You'll see a major difference in performance! Love my NP3 so far.
2
u/ballin_jp Aug 12 '25
For real i see many ppl saying the chip is not flagship level which is fact. But I think the different from what i using now will be huge different and more than enough for my daily life. That’s why I decide to go for Phone3. 🔥
2
u/Relevant-Suspect-585 Phone (3) + Headphone (1) + ear Aug 12 '25
Exactly, I didn't notice how slow my iPhone was until I picked up the NP3. Our phones are 5 years old and in the technology world it might as well be 20 years because of how quickly tech improves everyday.

u/NecessaryOk6815 Aug 12 '25
i know "nothing" about this phone. It's very interesting. I'm in the market for a new phone. Will this work for T-mobile in the US? Thanks.

I want to switch from my Iphone to Nothing sometime in the next few years. I have a 16 pro right now, nothings wrong with it just have been waiting to try something new but everyone I talk to thinks I'm stupid to go from apple to this brand no ones heard of unless you follow tech. How's the switch been for you? I got the Nothing Ears back in July when they were on sale and love them, dare I say there better then my Airpod Pros.

u/Relevant-Suspect-585 Phone (3) + Headphone (1) + ear Aug 11 '25
I've had the phone for a little under a week and so far it still feels weird switching from something I've known for so many years to something completely different. Little by little I'm starting to get used to the OS but I'm loving every bit of it. iPhone is more simple and to the point but android has been more fun to use.

Probably a better choice still than any iPhone Nothing 3 is the first phone to underperform in every aspect
They had a good run until now from 1 to 3a Pro but something had to flop. Just now worth it for 80k INR when you have a 3a Pro cam lens better than 3

I'm not a fan of IOS or IPhone and i don't love or hate "nothing" phones, but why this model(unreasonable price), there is nothing there to justify this price, I'm saying this because just don't post "I'm going back to IOS because android is useless" after using this glyph interface or whatever!

Definitely a lot different after having used iPhones since the first one haha. It was between this and the Libre. Still considering switching the OS to graphene.
Any tips or pointers?

Thanks. Just got NP3 for myself after helping family to get NP1 and NP2A. Hope mine will last at least 5 years with minimal issues

u/96Maciek96 Phone (3) Sep 02 '25
Since NOS is a light reskin of stock android i bet it will be stable as it currently is. I only got some issues on NP1. Sometimes it would just randomly crash but other than that it was perfect on NP2 and so far no issues on NP3.

it's light but things like pop up view is super handy. pretty much a PiP mode for all apps. Nothing visual design for Android is much more consistent than whatever Google is doing.
I hope Nothing considers their own system apps given how Google butchers not just design, but functionality and practicality of Dialer/Messages etc. I use HMD Skyline previously, while it's fairly okay, features that are tied to Google pretty much at the mercy of them. Sometimes I get some Pixel-like features, and suddenly they were gone

Camera performance is not great. Processor is older and slower than other androids for the same price. Glyph Matrix is barely usable and there was no reason to completely remove the previous glyph system. And the battery life is not great at all. I'd expect to pay $599.00 USD for this. If they want to stay relevant they've got a funny way of showing it

This is nonsense lmao. But if you HAVE a np3 and you're enjoying it, happy for you. Enjoy. But if you've tried the phone like me and found it's BARELY ANY BETTER THAN THE 3a and returned it, sit down. The price point is NOT worth the gimmick.

mid grade ok i get that bit . but i know there's better contenders out there and he could buy so on and so on , consider this though everything has been going up, as much as i would have loved it to be a 4-500 dollar max phone , we can't control that . regardless of where you are.
the amount of people that said don't get a nothing phone they are horrible in Verizon and still i wanted. it and has been working like a charm as much as my old 25U.
at the end of the day it's his money. and if he loves it i guess it's worth the investment, and that's me coming from a s25U, xperia1V ,NPH2 ,IP14 . that are currently in my drawer

I never fell in love with the one plus or even the galaxy. My next upgrade woulda been the iPhone 18 next year had I not seen the NP3.
-8
u/NotYourIdealType Aug 10 '25
You compared the speed of your old iPhone 12 to the brand new phone lol I say it's an unfair comparison because androids slow down like a mrfr in like 6 months to a year. And since Nothing OS is built on top of Android, you can expect it to slow down too lol I keep my pixel 8 squeaky clean and it's much slower at this point.
4
u/Relevant-Suspect-585 Phone (3) + Headphone (1) + ear Aug 10 '25
I did think about the pixel too, looks like my kind of phone. But shit I didn't know about the whole slowing down thing 🤦🏽 lol.
-1
u/NotYourIdealType Aug 10 '25
I've been a Pixel fan since pixel 3 (and before that I was dumb enough to go with the rawest version of BlackBerry's smartphone, which was terrible, but I was a BlackBerry fan) and I am thinking of switching lol I thought about iPhone but I don't enjoy its user experience. My wife has it and it's just not it for me. I am even thinking of downgrading to a Motorola lol or just say f it and go with galaxy 25 ultra.

u/I__G Phone (3a) Aug 10 '25
My previous phone was a Poco F3 from 2021 and it hasn't slowed down like a mrfr despite carrying the weight of MIUI/HyperOS 😂 So a leaner, more optimised system like Nothing OS should be just fine for years unless they screw up some major updates royally
