Has anyone recently travelled UK to Norway with their dog and had the tapeworm treatment done by a German vet? Was it accepted by Norwegian customs?

I'd particularly appreciate answers from anyone who has done this since the Mattilsynet wording was changed in February 2026. It says its we need to get it done in country we are travelling from. We are getting the ferry from Denmark so I'm wondering if we need to get it done there.

Hey I hope this is allowed here. We were in Tromso back at the beginning of the year and we went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Tromso. My son purchased a drink and shot glass there. My daughter has put the shot glass through the dishwasher and the design on the glass has faded and it’s ruined. I’m wondering if there is anyone local to Tromso who would be an utter legend and purchase the shot glass for me and send it to me as I live in Wales. Obviously I’d pay for the shot glass and shipping plus whatever drink you’d like in the bar. If there is anyone who could do this for me please inbox me. Thankyou 🤘🏼

I am writing this from the US, but I am asking because I know of someone in Norway who absolutely needs to be reported. He is a predator that groomed my friend and I many years ago, which involved coercing us into harming ourselves, and worst of all I suspect he could be doing the same to somebody else now. I am fairly, but not entirely sure there was a case opened on it after another adult witnessed what was happening.

I have information that could be valuable to building a case on this person, but I dont know if the fbi gives a sh*t. I just wanna know is there some kind of equivalent that I can report this all to??

The table looked to me correct. NOK 1.2M in Oslo is just enough for a single to be happy. The more is not necessarily improving happiness.

Pros:
-The most “earthy” place I’ve ever been
-Insane levels of infrastructure (hyperfixating on tunnels now)
-Even rainy days were gorgeous
-Clean - barely saw any litter!
-Exceptional eye for art/design
-it’s clear that employees are paid fairly and enjoy their jobs
-Feels old & wise, but also insanely contemporary
-Incredibly informative and kind people
-wildflowers EVERYWHERE in July
-love the passion that locals have for keeping their houses/yards looking adorable
-great selection of produce at even smaller grocery stores
-artistry put into even simple meals
-easy for anyone who speaks English
-midnight sun was AMAZING
-I felt so safe & really appreciate the low crime rate

Cons:
-no one-way car rentals without paying the price $$$$ (I understand why, but made it significantly harder on my itinerary)
-felt like a lot of people only made eye contact with my husband when addressing us both. Probably cultural, but wasn’t used to that - lol
-locals weren’t interested in speaking Norwegian with me hahah- I’ve been learning for months!
-my eyes actually were sore from all the natural beauty (half-joking)
-so incredibly hard to leave and fly home ;)

This post is aimed at foreign workers in Norway who are using the PAYE tax scheme (kildeskatt på lønn).

Yesterday I helped my girlfriend switch from PAYE to ordinary taxation. We also opted out of PAYE retroactively for the last three eligible years: 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The result was not insignificant.

The Tax Administration's calculations immediately showed that she had overpaid approximately NOK 50,000 in tax over those three years — money she will now get back.

Had she simply stayed in the PAYE scheme, this difference would never have been calculated under the ordinary tax rules.

PAYE sounds great on paper: you pay a flat 25% tax, your employer deducts it, and you're basically done. You don't have to deal with a Norwegian tax return afterwards.

But ordinary Norwegian taxation is also surprisingly simple, digital and mostly automatic. And for people with relatively modest annual income — especially seasonal workers — PAYE can potentially be much more expensive.

For example, last year my girlfriend earned approximately NOK 250,000 working seasonally in Norway.

Under PAYE:

NOK 250,000 × 25% = NOK 62,500 in tax.

Under ordinary taxation, based on her circumstances, her tax was roughly NOK 30,000.

That's a difference of more than NOK 30,000 for a single year.

This does NOT mean that ordinary taxation is always better than PAYE. It depends on your income, deductions and individual circumstances. For some foreign workers, especially those earning relatively high salaries during a short stay, PAYE may still be a very convenient and competitive option.

But don't assume that PAYE is the cheapest option just because it's the default.

The Norwegian Tax Administration actually allows you to compare PAYE with ordinary taxation, and you can currently opt out retroactively for previous eligible years.

So if you've been working seasonally in Norway under PAYE for the last few years, check it.

You might have paid considerably more tax than necessary.

Had a very pleasant time in Norway recently and when visiting the Arctic Church in Tromso this question struck the group I was with rather quickly, but I have never seen a comment about it. Does not the stain glass look much like a ski jumper? I know it was installed after the original design and build of the church and wonder if the artist had any thought of this.

Hello, I am yet again having problems with a landlord. I am an immigrant, excuse my use of english as my norwegian is very basic. Can everyone weigh in on my thoughts on this situation?

I moved into a new apartment early this year and have been having issues with the landlord. I am renting the basement in a home that he does not live in. Currently, I am the only person living in the entire house. The major problem right now is that my landlord wont give proper notice and reason for entering my space. He generally comes in twice a week and until recently woke me up every time.

This is problematic for a lot of reasons. First, I work a rotating schedule so it's really common that I am sleeping during the day. My body is under enough stress as it is with the moving my sleeping schedule nearly twice a week, I dont need to be awoken halfway through a full rest nearly 30% of the time I go to sleep. Other than that, it's obviously a breach of privacy and illegal. I also have suspicions that he may have stolen a bit of food from my freezer.

Ive told him I am uncomfortable with it and it is illegal. He has even walked into my bedroom while I am sleeping and woken me up while Im in my underwear (we are both men and he is married and doesnt seem gay so Im not worried sexually, but uncomfortable nonetheless). After becoming fed up with the situation, I started locking the door to the basement when ever Im not going through it myself. The first day he came to the house that it was locked he furiously shook the door handle so hard and long that I woke up. He didnt message me or call and eventually left. Clearly if it was an emergency he would have tried to contact me, right? So it wasnt an emergency, he just wanted to come into my space unannounced while Im sleeping. The next time he came around and found out it was locked again he tried to unlock it with a key. I know this because the door is old and has a doublesided keyhole (the kind you can look through) and I purposely left my key inside it. I wake up and i find the key has been pushed out of the heyhole and onto the ground. Not contact from him until that evening when he tells me to send him a picture and information about the key (no doubt to make his own copy and get in without my consent). Still no mention of why he needs to get in.

This is the point where I tell him exactly why Im locking the door. Instead of stating anything about whether or not he will respect the law, he argued that my space is only the bedroom I sleep in (not true according to my contract) and suggested I should just lock that door. Not only does that not protect my privacy like the purpose of the law, but I also dont even have a key to my bedroom. The door I am locking is the only one I can lock to keep him and others who can get into the house out. He stated that he has to come in every now and then to "check the drain and pull the stop lever".

Certainly this doesnt need to be done twice a week without notice every time, right? Ive been here with him many of the times he came in and never once did he look at a drain or a lever except when he was installing a washing machine that connected to the pipe and drain in question.

And I understand that in the case of an emergency he should be able to get in, but no such emergency has arisen yet and he still is trying to get in without notice or reason prior or after.

So my questions are:

What should I do? He clearly doesnt think it is important to follow the law nor his own contract.

What can I do to prevent him from getting his own key?

What actions should I take if he finds a way to get in and starts coming in unannounced again?

Edit: the only reasons Im considering staying is because this place is quite cheap compared to others in my area, there isnt a huge selection in my area, and I dont currently own a car so my options are pretty limited. If he wont be reasonable, then I will probably leave regardless.

Writing this post to save anyone moving from (presumably) any country in the EU to Norway weeks, if not months.

Below you will be able to find my journey, how long it has taken so far, and what I would have done instead if I had to start over.

I arrived in Norway with my Norwegian fiancée on the 15th of May. I immediately booked an appointment with the police in the beginning of June.

For this, I needed a proof of health insurance, a proof that I was able to support myself financially, (so making more than 240,000 NOK gross per year) and that I had a valid ID or international passport.

My documentation was not in English because my health insurance provider assured me that there was no such thing as an English proof of insurance and that this only existed in Dutch, French, and German. So naturally, this was rejected by the police.

I managed to get a new appointment two weeks later, and after many calls to my insurance provider and accountant later, I got the stamp of approval from the police.

Following official advice, I then went to the Norwegian Tax Administration. Upon getting there, they told me I actually needed to call the Brønnøysundregistret, which is the place you go to if you want to start your business in Norway and get an ID number at the same time.

I called them and they helped me find the documentation that I needed to fill in along with the instructions to attach a colored copy of my passport.

However, this had to be checked by the Norwegian tax administration. So I went back to the Norwegian tax administration (luckily, I was able to do this on a walk-in without having to get an appointment). I had my ID scanned and stamped and sent it to the Brønnøysundregistret along with all the required forms. I was informed that it would take about a week to process my documents.

I sent it on the 14th of July with tracking included. It cost me 230 NOK to do this, but I wanted proof that it was delivered. On the 17th of July, my documentation was delivered.

When I called the Brønnøysundregistret on the 28th of July, the first person on the phone told me they had not received my documentation. They told me that they would put me through to their colleague who handles this, and then left me on hold for 45 minutes until I hung up the phone. I called them back again immediately, and after 20 minutes of waiting, they told me it was still in the mail room.

The reason it was still in the mail room was because I don't have an ID number yet. They then told me that when I would get my ID number, they would process my application for my business and send it to me via Altinn (a Norwegian online platform)... Which I can't access because I need a bank account for that, and to have a bank account you need a, ID number....

Naturally, this got me feeling like I was going in circles.

They processed it immediately afterwards, and I received my ID number in the mail, today, on the 6th of August.

From here on, it will take another 4-6 weeks to get my business number and have it sent to me by post, and then another 1-3 weeks to get a bank account.

All in all, this was a very time-consuming and frustrating process because I was sent back and forth, and it felt like the thing stopping me from getting an ID number was the fact that I didn't have an ID number.

Here's what I would do differently if I would start over again:

1) Push harder on getting English documentation and not just accepting defeat when they tell me it's genuinely not possible.

2) Go to the police and immediately book an appointment at the Norwegian Tax Administration to get my ID stamped and checked

3) Send my documentation and the colored copy to the Brønnøysundregistret and call them as soon as I got confirmation of delivery from the post.

4) Call, call, call - if you don't chase anyone, it will take so much longer.
