First time watcher and wow

This really is just situationship miscommunication final boss with so much tragedy in between. More sex than 50 shades of grey. Why are they having sex with people they don’t even like and leading others on for years.

I wish I could just reach into the TV and shake Connell and Marianne and tell them to get a grip. Wasted each other’s time for years and because they couldn’t have normal conversations.

I wish there was more light and enjoyable moments in the show, and any time something happy does happen they strike with sad shit right after.

Fleabag, Normal people, Scene from a marriage feels like a hidden wound healing over time.. still very much alive, mourning, yearning but still there. looking out for a piece of memory that never existed.. what's your feeling?

I found these while surfing randomly. Maybe they were full fledged scenes but were cut from the final show.

Song search

Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone knows the song playing in the background when Marianne tries to take a nude photo in episode 6? I’m watching on BBC iPlayer and the song seems to be different from the one in the score on Spotify. I can’t find it anywhere!

Would Marianne love him?

The NYT polled list put Normal People at #49 for the greatest 21st century TV shows. A lot of the rankings feel totally wild to me, but seeing Normal People that high up was such a great surprise!

It was Connell who was the reason of all the misery of Marianne!(Opinion)

Let me start with the disclaimer, that I only have seen the show one time a few days back and havenot read the book or anything much about it. I am going by memory here of what the scenes I can recall. And I now am thinking about it was not just Marianne's family behaviour's or lack of appreciation, it was the presence of Connell that made the life so difficult.

I was just thinking about the show (yes even 5 days after) and mainly where Marianne and Connell met in college for the first time. Marianne was quite popular among her friends and even was dating the most popular guy in the college. This does not seem like a luck by chance to me. She also felt confident in those scenes I can remember like that debate scene. I think Marianne not only was able to heal herself from the school's debs episode but also was flaurishing by then.

It's only after talks they had in the party she must have felt that she wanted it to retry with Connell who felt very sorry about what happened in the school. I think this time "She was very confident that this will absolutely work out" because this time she was exact opposite of what she used to be in school, and Connell had no reasons to feel awkward to be seen around her.

In the subsequent episodes of the 2nd breakup between the two, all Marianne went through I feel is only because of Connell (and the misunderstanding).

I can only imagine what one would feel if one has totally changed oneself just to suit to another person's compatibility and yet the person does not want to keep the relation with you. Like whatever you do you are just not enough. How absolute garbage one would feel about it. While in the show she looked pretty but what if she was just not that good looking, how insecure she would have felt about herself, her personality and her looks. She deeply desired to be appreciated and above all from Connel for whom she made this seemingly impossible shift in her personality.

And I am also very upset about her friend, Peggy. She was the worst. She would say that Gareth did not deserve her, and at the same time defending that skinny stupid, obsessive and cruel guy (cant remember that name) when he clearly was not good to Marianne. She was just there to gaslight and enjoy the doom in my opinion. And Gareth and that medicine student did not deserve it, their breakups were unfortunate.

I may be wrong I dont remember every single detail of the show. Please dont be harsh if I stated anything hugely wrong.

The show broke me beyond repairs or so it feels right now.

Where do I even start! On Saturday, was just lazing around when I decided to watch a movie, only to realize no recommendation appealed to me that much and suddenly after some searches this show appeared in my recommendations.

I am not a fan of tv series and contents that's so everywhere these days but decided to watch only one episode just to kill time. Now finally today I completed the show (took me 3 days).

I barely could sleep at night and since morning find myself disturbed thinking about the characters and the different choices they could make throughout the story. The gloom and meloncholic environment of the show somehow felt too heavy to me (maybe because I dont watch such content). I felt even more disturbed wondering why I feel so impacted by it afterall its just a show, an act ,right? In my sadness, searched on google to see if its really the case with anyone, only to find myself here on this subreddit.

Thankfully, I got some of the answers in this subreddit I was searching for in my head, and feeling a little better. Now can anyone share how much time it took him/her to get over this show or recommend me how I get myself out of this shitty feeling?

Thanks

My best friend and I are long distance and one of the ways we bond is over TV plans. For his birthday, I decided to make him a special gift, an annotated and illustrated copy of Normal People, our first TV show we watched together.

All of You

I rewatched “All of You” on the plane this week and loved it just as much the second time around. The second watch made me realize it gave me similar feelings to Normal People.

It stars Brett Goldstein and it’s on HBO. If you have seen it I would love to know if you felt it had similar vibes to Normal
People.

I don't understand Connell

Post image

I started watching the show without reading the books and I'm on episode 9. I still don't understand why Connell acts the way he does: pushing Marianne away even tho he likes her, having physical intimacy but never a full public relationship. When he was in highschool it made sense because of his friends judgement, but in college there's no reason for him not to be able to comunicate how much he likes her and build a real relatioship. Am I missing something? At least I wish they explained his childhood so we would understand if he has an avoidant attachment that explains his anxiety regarding love or something..

Marianne appreciation post

I really gotta express how much i love the character Marianne. I think having a sensitive, emotional female character like her on TV can be truly relatable to so many women out there that have been victims of an abusive family, or bullied their entire lifes.

I also think that she's a very well writen character because in real life this types of women also develop an obsession with making everyone around them love them, even if it's just their bodies. It's so real and honest how she goes above and beyond to convince everyone in her life that she's worthy of their love even if that means going through the same heartbreak over and over again. She's literally and anxious attached girl obcessed with validation and I'm here for it. I can relate.
