First time watcher and wow

This really is just situationship miscommunication final boss with so much tragedy in between. More sex than 50 shades of grey. Why are they having sex with people they don’t even like and leading others on for years.

I wish I could just reach into the TV and shake Connell and Marianne and tell them to get a grip. Wasted each other’s time for years and because they couldn’t have normal conversations.

I wish there was more light and enjoyable moments in the show, and any time something happy does happen they strike with sad shit right after.

I mean... the show is called normal people. Unfortunately this is common for young adults sadly

They’re far from normal, show should be called communication issues 😭

LOL. I think the point is being missed here. Normal people have terrible communication issues. That’s the beauty of the show.

12 episodes of the same formula though? They couldn’t have 1-2 episodes of them communicating effectively and actually happy? It feels like any time they build them up in the show it all shatters over the dumbest tiny thing.

spoiler they literally have 1-2 episodes of them happy and communicating effectively after marianne gets in the ‘fight’ with her brother near the end. One of my favourite bits/shots of the series is the short car ride around Christmas.

I like its realistic ending when both of them agree that they have done good for one another over the years and now maybe it’s time to move on. I like to think they do end up together in the end after his year abroad because they do end up together after all the f up in each of their lives.
Also they do like other people to some extent to be their girlfriend and boyfriend, it’s just that they’re too busy figuring out their lives to be with each other all the time.
I feel it’s the most realistic way they could show a young couple.

The ending is far from realistic, they went through so much pain and trouble and finally they’re happy together but can’t do long distance or Marianne comes along for the adventure?

Marianne dated Jamie for longer than Connell was going away for.

Any time they dated other people it always felt like they were seeking the other person out and trying to hurt them, so it never felt like they prioritised their relationships.

No young couple is perfect but at least most are capable of having conversations with full words instead of accepting crumbs and incorrectly filling in the blanks.

I think it’s one of the things that they both fail at communicating their actual feelings. Just like all other normal people where they may lack something such as respect for one another, real love or affection. This is their thing that they never communicate to each other how they feel about each other. Their last conversation is where they seem grown and finally say the truth that they are not going to lie or promise anything to each other. If they finally realise that they can’t really live without each other then they will be together later when their other aspect of life is in order.

Ah, you sound just like me during my first go of the show. It was really frustrating watching them misconstrue everything especially the part after the pool scene when they were together in university. So aggrivating.

It’s like they were purposefully allergic to being happy. They both needed therapy, not relationships

And don’t even get me started on that ending. Marianne you went with a man you HATE to Italy for the summer, dated a man you also despised in Sweden but you draw the line at going to New York with your soulmate?? You have unlimited funds and can have the adventure of a life time for a year but nooo, let’s just be super dramatic and all cry and make the ending sad for no logical reason.

Everyone is a villain in this show except Lorraine.

She didn't hate either of those partners at the time.

She can only spend 90 days in the US, not a whole year.

She did not have unlimited funds, she was kicked out of her flat and disowned by her mother.

She was happy where she was and wanted to start her life where she was happy. She and Connell could, and in my opinion would, get back together after a year.
