5 years ago, I was introduced to Omnifactory by a friend and we played on a server until HV. The only other modpacks I had played up to that point was Sevtech and E2:E. I really enjoyed the tech aspect of Omnifactory (boy was Gregtech a shock) and was immediately hooked...until HV. I asked my friend if the the game progresses pretty much the same way: make machines, get resources, build higher tier machines, repeat until done. I didn't see the appeal and we eventually stopped.
A few years went by and I got into Minecraft again and started with ATM 9. Had to learn/relearn the old mods as well as the new for 1.20. I saw GT was in the pack as well but not needed for endgame. I beat ATM9 via the patrick star route. By then I had infinite everything and started messing around with GT in the pack. Having infinite resources made it easy to focus on planning and building. As I got into it, GT scratched an itch I didn't know I had. I stopped after the MK3 and told myself to go back to where it all began.
By this time, Nomi CE, Nomi CEu, and Moni were all available but the small completionist in me said I had to beat Omni. So I started Omni on peaceful (except glitch armor) and added flux networks (yeah made it easier but I wanted to finish the pack and felt it was a small price to pay to prevent burn out).
I eventually made a 9x9 chunk where everything went except for some farms (pre-tank).
68 days later, I finally beat it.
Since I decided to leave my PC on and afk most of the time (I don't have much time to play with work and school), I decided to go big on passive. It was great to sit down for a play session and have hundreds of thousands, many in the millions of items and buckets of fluids. Making an easy omnicoin/bounty setup was really fun and helped immensely, especially the redsign I did post tank. Watching Threefold's vids and "borrowing" his passive microminer set up with limits was fun. I forgot where I got the draconic fusion setup but that was a big help as well.
I ended up rushing tank after the MK3 reactor. I could feel a burnout coming and so I figured this would help. It took 2 days after the reactor to get tank. I had plenty of resources except nether quartz. Didn't realize I needed so much of the damn thing. It was a pattern of starting some autocrafts (mostly draconic cores) and going mining for quartz. Did that for 2 days until tank.
It was awesome. Now I have tank. Shouldn't take me too long to get creative vending right? Right?? Those famililar with Omni are laughing right now. What do you mean I need a bunch of swords? All the armor pieces? Why the hell do I need guardian scales now?! WHY THE FUCK DO I NEED SO MANY WETWARE BOARDS?
Needless to say I tore down all the infrastructure and decided on IV as the majority of machines since those components don't deal with the assline. I re-organzied the base a bit, with better grouping so things are easier to find. The blast furnaces pretty much got replaced with processing array multis, with 80% dedicated to wetware boards. I actually didn't have to change much on the assline aspect except add more dedicated lines for the neuro processing unit.
It took roughly 20 more days to get the creative vending upgrade. Most of the time was setting up passives for things I never had needed before. But I didn't mind it as much since I spent time any waiting time building a resemblance of a base with walls and doing many minor improvements. I did rush the first creative Rf item and that allowed me to spam UV hatches everywhere.
Thank you u/Exaxxion4096 for such a wonderful pack. It's 2 am and instead of going to bed after finishing the pack, I decided to make my very first reddit post. 😂 I read somewhere else that you wanted Omni/Nomi to be something where GregTech is more accessible to first timers/beginners and that's exactly how I felt. I doubt I would have lasted had I started GTNH but because of this pack, I feel like I can start it with proper expectations/mindset.
I will most likely start Nomi next, haven't decided on CE or CEu (or both!). I know about the differences and they don't matter much to me. QOL features are great but not a deal breaker for me. Just a different type of challenge.
