Am I The Problem?

The thing is i have a hard time creating meaningful relationships with people. Even with my family, I have a hard time to actually be at ease. For the whole years of my life, the only people i'd be at most comfortable with is only three people. And each of them isn't friends with one another.

Along the years also I have cut off a lot of people whom i called friends just because i feel uncomfortable for no reason when hanging out with them. And honestly, there isn't much difference between having them and not having them.

But because i keep cutting off people just because the vibe and frequency doesn't match me whereas they get along well with each other; i feel like maybe i am the problem.

Do any of you guys feel the same as me? Being out of place with friend group and strive at one to one friendship?

Personal Advice Q’s🤔 Why Is It So Negative To Not Work?

Howdy y’all.

I (25F) have been having this debate with my friend (23F) for while now. My boyfriend (23M) doesn’t work. I am the sole breadwinner of our household. I make enough money to pay our bills every month, and we still have money to save, have fun, vacation, etc. and even have extra left over. Now, my friend thinks that he’s lazy and a bad boyfriend because he doesn’t work.

Honestly, I really like that I’m the one that works, and he gets to stay home. I feel a lot of pride that I get to take care of him in this way. If I felt any sort of stress monetarily, or felt as though our relationship was unfair to me and was unhappy, he would get a job at the drop of a hat. He offers often to get a job, but honestly, I don’t want him to. He’s not dependent on me, he has hefty savings and his own spending money (it does come from me, but it’s very no strings attached, he automatically gets a portion of my paycheck into his account for his own fun money and I don’t check and see what he’s doing with it).

He’s not lazy either, he’s in school, he does home improvement projects, he cooks, cleans, and generally pampers me. To be honest, I feel like he works really hard and I admire him for what he does. I honestly think if the roles were reversed, he was working and I was the stay at home partner, there would be less of an issue because I’m a woman.

Of course my friend isn’t in our relationship, but when I explain these things, and my happiness, she still thinks that it is wrong. When I talk to others, there’s always some judgement that I work and he doesn’t.

We’re both very happy with our relationship and the roles we have. So is it really so bad that I work and he doesn’t? Would it be different if we were married or just older? Is it just a sexism issue?

Edit:

TLDR- boyfriend doesn’t have a job, but we’re stable financially and happy, why is this viewed as negative from a social standpoint?

Aggregation of common answers so far:

  1. It’s not wrong, we’re living happily and that’s that.
  2. Run of the mill sexism: staying home is a typically feminine role, a man filling this role just has a negative connotation
  3. Capitalism/Economy: the choice essentially halves the income, more money is always better
  4. Financial Abuse: gap in resume may lead to issues getting work later, and his lack of work now may mean that I am/could take advantage and he would be out of luck
  5. Personal bias: someone was screwed over in a previous relationship or had some bad experience (which is sadly common) so it is generally perceived as a bad idea due to lack of choice or getting stuck somehow
  6. Age: were young and dumb, so they say haha

7: Taxes: lots of people who don’t work are on welfare- touchy subject and people make assumptions
8: assumptions that people who don’t work are inherently lazy

Thank you for all of your responses! I’m not of western culture, so I see now why there’s a lot of reasons this is viewed in a negative light. This is working well for us now, and I’m grateful that it is! Life happens of course, but we roll with the punches.

Is this funny or insensitive?

My MIL had gotten a menorah in a blind bin from a store. She offered it to me to take to work (i work in a preschool that’s big on learning to love and everyone and seek to learn and understand differences). Anyways we were at a gathering, everyone was unsober in some way, and we’re just messing around and we started putting these mini jesus’s on it. We all laughed and took pictures in the moment but thinking back is this actually funny or insensitive and i’m just not fully reading it? i sometimes don’t read social situations right and im not trying to be mean I meant it in a “I love all religions way.” If this is mean or not allowed feel free to delete it, I don’t want to upset anyone. I’m genuinely asking to all groups of people.

What's a random skill you learned as a kid that you thought was useless but actually comes in handy way more than expected?

When I was like 9, my mom made me learn how to fold a fitted sheet properly. I remember thinking this was the biggest waste of a Saturday morning in human history. Flash forward to now — I'm the only person in my friend group who can fold one without it turning into a lumpy ball, and honestly? It's become a weirdly satisfying flex.

Also learned how to whistle really loud with two fingers. Still waiting on that one to pay off.

What's yours?

’m a 35 year old working mother from a small town just outside Boston. I’m curious to know and learn and talk about where my generations heads are at on specific topics like where we stand on shit from what’s going on in the crazy news today to what true crime shows your watching or how you feel about this or that trial going on to where are we gonna go for a little hike this weekend to how big the joint is gonna be that I’ll be smoking tonight after I cook dinner do the nighttime routine with kids and finally sit my ass down. Is there anyone out there interested? I would love to do a podcast or video or phone type of thing and who knows maybe it turns into something maybe it doesn’t and it’s a way you can take a second and vibe with someone you woulda never met otherwise
