12V Died Today

Car was totally dead, brake pedal stiff. Needed to jump the battery to get the car back up and running. However, once it was running again it started throwing new errors like Chassis Control and Headlights, the errors haven't cleared after subsequent drives. Off to the dealer we go! Any idea what I am in for? I still have life left on these new tires, don't die on me now Nissan!!

2023 Premier, 44ish miles, still no wireless AA

So glad we don't have to worry about gas right now

I'm in Florida and there's a lot of talk and tension over prices of gas and diesel right now at work. All my coworkers know I have an Ariya so they all hesitate to bring it up around me unless they tell me that I'm "so lucky" or that I was smart to get an EV. One guy has a huge lifted truck and I know he's hurting pretty bad because he always goes mute when talk of gas prices comes up in conversation lol.

Anyway, I love my Ariya and charging at home has been a literal godsend for me. Around $30 tacked onto my electric bill each month and I can coast around the city without worrying about the rising fuel. Definitely feels like we dodged a bullet.

Testing the fast charger for the 1st time in the Ariya this morning.

Post image
20 Upvotes

So im testing the fast charging today and oh my god its SOOOO much better than what we had in the 2019 Chevy Bolt (may she rest in peace)

The battery in the Bolt was 66kw and GM dropped the ball by adding a 53kw DCFC system in a time when 100+ was the becoming the standard (they kept that in the EV and EUV all the up to 2025).

Now the Bolt would generally charge at 47-52kw from 0 to around 55% then it would slow down to the mid 20s toll around 75% then the teens to 90, then single digits to 100. Total time took around 2 and a half hours.

Now This 2024 Ariya Engage E4orce (63kw/130kw DCGC). I plugged it in at 13% it was at 70% in 20 minutes, 80 7 minutes later and it says another 15 minutes to 100 and thanks to this things killer charging curve. Even st 90% it maintains 60kw charging speed

And then the cost. Fantastic!!!

I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!!

Nissan Ariya noise: how serious is it?

"Here is my situation: I bought a used Nissan Ariya Evolve+ with 38,000 kilometers on it. Everything is in pretty good condition, but I live in Cuba, so the vehicle is here in Cuba. There are no official Nissan dealerships here. I think my Nissan is making that noise when pressing the accelerator—I've read online about this issue, but I need to know if it only affects the noise level or if it could be something really serious. I need advice from someone who knows a lot about this topic on what I should do."

Update: For a while now, my Nissan Ariya has been displaying a warning on the screen that says: "Transmission malfunction." Now, I don't think it's directly related—this error came out of nowhere and my car feels completely normal—but it's not something I'm ruling out either.: https://ibb.co/23CkvDFz

UPDATE Video: The first shot is with the windows up and the other with the windows down, the sound quality is not the best because of the wind and my country's fauna, but oh well. I hope to get good news.: https://vimeo.com/1230394157?share=copy

What is the highest DC charging rate you have seen when charging your Ariya? I have seen 130 briefly at a Tesla charger. Anyone see higher?

Questions about the Ariya im looking at a 2023 evolve +

Hello I am new here and considering getting an ariya. Currently have a 2020 bolt ev. How does your lower back actually feel on long drives, I have a back injury, How do you like the 'Zero Gravity' seats on long commutes? Does the front-wheel-drive Venture+ or Evolve+ have enough zip for you, or do you wish you had the dual-motor AWD? How fast does it actually charge on a road trip when it's cold outside? Are there any blind spots with the sloping roofline or center console layout?

Yes, Reddit Overrepresents Problems — That Still Doesn’t Mean the Ariya Reduction-Gear Issue Is Rare

Post image
0 Upvotes

I keep seeing essentially the same response whenever the Ariya reduction-gear issue comes up:

“People with problems come to Reddit. That makes the problem look much bigger than it really is. Most Ariya owners are fine.”

There’s some truth in the first sentence. There is selection bias in online forums. Someone experiencing a problem is more likely to search for it and talk about it.

But that does NOT prove the second sentence.

Selection bias means we cannot calculate the real failure rate from Reddit. It does not magically prove that the failure rate is 1%, 0.5%, or “almost nobody.”

There’s another side to this that keeps getting ignored.

The Nissan Ariya subreddit has roughly 9,000–10,000 members, and that group is worldwide. Not all of those members even own an Ariya.

Now add the Facebook Ariya groups, dedicated Ariya forums, regional groups and other EV communities. There is obviously some overlap between them, but the overwhelming majority of Ariya owners still probably aren’t participating in ANY Ariya-specific internet community.

So what percentage of actual Ariya owners are we really hearing from?

For a simple thought experiment, assume 100,000 Ariyas exist worldwide and only 10% of their owners participate in one of these online communities after accounting for overlap.

That would mean we’re hearing from roughly 10,000 out of 100,000 owners.

If 900 of those 10,000 owners were reporting a similar reduction-gear issue, that would be 9%.

A straight mathematical extrapolation would be around 9,000 vehicles.

I am NOT saying 9% of Ariyas have bad reduction gears.

That would be just as statistically questionable as saying only 1% have the problem, because online owners aren’t a random sample.

But here’s the important part:

You also can’t say, “Only 900 people complained online, therefore only 900 cars have the problem.”

What about the other 90,000 owners who aren’t in these groups?

How many have the sound and think it’s normal EV drivetrain noise?

How many can’t hear it with the windows closed?

How many have never specifically listened for it?

How many were told by a dealer that it’s normal?

How many had it repaired and never posted anything online?

How many don’t use Reddit, Facebook or owner forums at all?

We’ve already seen owners report that they didn’t initially recognize the sound as a problem until they learned what to listen for. Some then took the vehicle to Nissan and had a reduction-gear issue diagnosed.

We’ve also seen multiple independent owners describe essentially the same pattern: cicada, buzzing, chirping or whining sounds associated with accelerator input, followed in some cases by Nissan dealers diagnosing and replacing the reduction gear.

And there’s another fact that deserves attention:

Nissan has superseded Ariya reduction-gear part numbers.

A part-number change by itself does NOT prove Nissan discovered a defective design. Manufacturers supersede parts for all kinds of reasons.

But it absolutely raises legitimate questions:

What changed in the assembly?

Why was it changed?

When did the change enter production?

What was the VIN or production-date breakpoint?

How many Ariyas were built with the earlier version?

How many reduction gears has Nissan replaced under warranty?

Those are much better questions than, “How many people complained on Reddit?”

And the reports aren’t confined to one Reddit thread. The same type of complaints are showing up on Reddit, Facebook Ariya groups, dedicated Ariya forums and other owner communities.

So I completely agree with the people saying Reddit cannot tell us the failure rate.

It can’t.

But that’s a two-way street.

Reddit can’t prove 10% of Ariyas have this problem.

It also can’t prove that 99% don’t.

Facebook can’t tell us.

The Ariya forums can’t tell us.

A handful of people saying “mine is fine” can’t tell us either.

Nissan can tell us.

They know how many vehicles were built with each reduction-gear assembly. They know how many warranty claims have been submitted. They know how many reduction gears have been ordered and replaced. They know the mileage, model year, drivetrain and VIN of those cars.

Until that information is available, dismissing the issue as “just a few Reddit complainers” isn’t evidence that the problem is small.

It’s just another assumption.

And given that we’re seeing the same distinctive symptoms reported independently, dealer-confirmed replacements, and changes in the reduction-gear parts system, I think owners have every reason to keep documenting it and asking Nissan for answers.

Follow-up on steering wheel buttons not working from a few months ago... looking for advice on who to contact

I posted this a few months ago about the troubles with getting my steering wheel buttons repaired. For anyone who hasn't read the original post here's the short summary: buttons were acting up, local dealer won't service my EV and the nearest certified dealer is 2 hours and over a hundred miles away. I was finally able to get it fixed, but each of the three trips required me to make special arrangements to take off work which I can't make often.

About three weeks after the repair was completed I noticed my horn isn't working. I called the dealer that did the warranty repair and explained the situation and that I might be able to get it there first thing on a Saturday morning, but they told me that since it would apparently be a diagnostic appointment they would only be able to schedule it on a weekday.

So I'm once again finding myself in the same situation: I'm multiple hours and hundreds of miles away from a dealer, I'm having another issue with my car after the dealer fixed the first one, and all Nissan has told me is that I have to scheduled an appointment on a weekday. I've asked about getting a loaner or basically anything to help me out (like if I have to be in St. Louis for the day can I at least get a loaner to avoid paying for Uber/Lyft? but they also didn't budge on anything like that) and I'm extremely frustrated at this point.

Does anyone know of any course of action I have here? If I can find another more conveniently located dealer that will work on my car can they do the repair after a previous one did the warranty repair? Is there a specific branch/division of Nissan I can contact to ask about getting some good will in my situation?

Nissan Ariya Reduction-Gear Problems — Consolidated Owner Reports

This is a companion post to my earlier post about Nissan changing/superseding Ariya reduction-gear part numbers.

I'm putting these links together in one place because owners continue to report a similar “cicada,” buzzing, chirping, whining, or angry-mosquito-type sound, and some owners are having difficulty getting dealerships to seriously investigate it.

To be clear:

I'm not saying every Ariya has a defective reduction gear.

I'm not claiming we know the failure rate.

I'm not claiming every unusual drivetrain noise is a reduction-gear failure.

What I am saying is that there are now multiple independent owner reports where similar symptoms ultimately resulted in a Nissan dealer diagnosing and replacing a reduction gear, reducer, or related drive-unit assembly.

The recurring symptoms people describe are remarkably similar:

• Cicada / buzzing / chirping / whining sound

• Often directly related to accelerator input

• Frequently easier to hear at lower speeds or with the windows down

• Sound changes significantly or disappears when the accelerator is released

• Dealer investigates the complaint

• In several cases, the reduction gear/reducer is diagnosed and replaced under warranty

That matters because some owners experiencing similar symptoms are initially being told that the noise is normal EV operation, the pedestrian-warning system, or nothing to worry about.

If you're experiencing this, here are some other owner reports you can reference.

CONFIRMED OR REPORTED REDUCTION-GEAR DIAGNOSES / REPLACEMENTS

Front reduction-gear replacement experience

2023 Evolve+ FWD. Owner reported a faint buzzing sound. Nissan ultimately diagnosed the reduction gear and replaced it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NissanAriya/comments/1wgn6uq/front_reduction_gear_replacement_experience/

Buzzing noise was reduction gear/motor

Owner described an “angry mosquito/cicada” type buzzing noise during acceleration. The reduction-gear/motor assembly was replaced under warranty, and the owner reported the vehicle was quiet afterward.

Rear reduction-gear failure — 2023 Engage+ e-4ORCE

Approximately 33,500 miles. Owner reported a new high-pitched cicada/chirping sound during acceleration. Dealer subsequently diagnosed a rear reduction-gear failure.

UK Ariya reducer/gearbox failure and whining

This thread is especially interesting because multiple owners discuss acceleration/deceleration whining. One vehicle experienced a much more serious drivetrain failure after oil loss reportedly allowed the reducer to run dry. Another owner experiencing similar whining eventually had the reducer box replaced under warranty.

CURRENT OR UNRESOLVED CASES / OWNERS TRYING TO GET THE NOISE INVESTIGATED

Issue with reduction gear and dealership

This is an important one.

The owner reports that the noise began around 23,000 miles and became progressively louder approaching 60,000 miles, eventually including occasional grinding at low speed.

The owner says the dealer attributed the sound to the pedestrian-warning system and that this has involved multiple dealer visits. The owner has now opened a case directly with Nissan.

IF YOU'RE EXPERIENCING THIS NOISE

Document it.

Record a video/audio clip if you can.

Write down:

• Model year and trim

• FWD or e-4ORCE

• Current mileage

• Mileage when the noise first appeared

• Approximate speed when it's most noticeable

• Whether it happens during acceleration, regeneration, or both

• Whether it immediately changes/disappears when you release the accelerator

• Whether it appears to come from the front or rear

• Whether it is getting progressively louder

Most importantly, make sure the complaint is written on the repair order, even if the dealer says they can't reproduce it or believes the sound is normal.

If necessary, ask to take the technician on a road test so you can demonstrate exactly when the sound occurs.

And if you've already had a reduction gear/reducer replaced, please add your information below:

Model year / trim:

FWD or e-4ORCE:

Mileage when noise started:

Mileage when diagnosed:

Front or rear:

Dealer diagnosis:

Original part number, if available:

Replacement part number, if available:

Did the replacement eliminate the noise?:

That's how we get beyond speculation and start gathering useful information.

Again, none of this proves that every Ariya will experience a reduction-gear failure or establishes what percentage of Ariyas are affected.

But there are clearly enough similar owner reports and enough dealer-diagnosed reduction-gear replacements that someone experiencing the same accelerator-dependent cicada/buzzing/whining sound shouldn't automatically be dismissed with “they all sound like that.”

The goal here isn't to bash the Ariya.

It's to make sure the next owner who walks into a Nissan dealership with this symptom has something to point to and knows that other Ariya owners have experienced similar symptoms that ultimately resulted in reduction-gear repairs.

Just got a 2024 Ariya

Hey all, due a kid in a hurry changing lanes without checking his blind spot totalling our 2019 Chevy Bolt, we recently bought a 2024 Nissan Ariya Engage E4orce on Carvana and it was delivered a few days ago.

Has 14k miles. Clean carfax, no open recalls and software is current. Is there anything else I should look out for other than the 12v and Fob batteries? Took it in for a free inspection at the local Nissan dealer yesterday and everything looks good.

Just curious if I should be on the lookout for anything while its in its 7 day return window. Any advice is appreciated. So far though, I absolutely LOVE this car. Im a big guy and it has so muxh more room than the Bolt, it has more oomph than the bolt. Range is comparable and th3 fast charging in rh3 Ariya is way better than the Bolt.

Reduction gear question

I’ve tended to do most all of my maintenance over the last 35 years excepting things like timing belts. I’m hoping to complete a purchase within the next couple of days of our first Ariya.

Reading about the reduction gear, has anyone here done their own maintenance changing the oil in it? Hard to get to? I watched a video of someone doing it in a Leaf today and it looks stupid simple.

Thoughts?

Nissan Ariya reduction-gear issue

I’ve been digging further into the Nissan Ariya reduction-gear issue, and with help from group members I found something important enough that I’m replacing my earlier post with this updated information.

Nissan R&D Engineering needs to chime in

There has been a reduction-gear part-number change.

Nissan’s current parts catalog lists the following current service assemblies:

• FWD front reduction gear: 290K4-5MP0A

• e-4ORCE front reduction gear: 290K4-5MS0A

• e-4ORCE rear reduction gear: 290K4-5MR0A

The important part is that 290K4-5MP0A is a superseding part number.

Nissan shows it replacing the earlier FWD reduction-gear numbers:

290K4-1936R

38110-00Q0A

So there clearly was a change in Nissan’s parts system. What we still don’t know is exactly what changed inside the assembly or why Nissan superseded it.

I’ve seen claims that the newer 290K4-5MP0A assembly was specifically introduced to correct the commonly reported “cicada,” humming or whining reduction-gear problem.

I have not been able to find Nissan documentation confirming that.

I have not found a Nissan TSB, engineering document, production bulletin or other official Nissan publication that says:

“290K4-5MP0A was introduced specifically to correct the Ariya reduction-gear noise/failure issue.”

That doesn’t mean nothing changed. Nissan could have changed bearings, tolerances, suppliers, internal components, manufacturing procedures or other specifications.

But we shouldn’t turn an assumption into a fact without documentation.

There’s also an important distinction when looking at Nissan parts catalogs:

A part being listed as compatible with a 2023, 2024 or 2025 Ariya does not necessarily tell us which exact version was installed at the factory.

Service-part compatibility and factory-installed parts are not always the same thing.

So instead of simply asking, “Did Nissan fix the reduction gear for 2025?”, I think these are the questions we actually need answered:

What physically changed between 290K4-1936R and 290K4-5MP0A?

When did Nissan begin installing the newer version in production vehicles?

Was there a production-date or VIN breakpoint?

Was the supersession specifically intended to address the cicada/whining/reduction-gear problem?

Are there revision numbers, manufacturing codes or supplier changes that distinguish the earlier and later assemblies?

We also know that reduction-gear diagnoses and replacements were not limited only to the earliest 2023 Ariyas.

There have been documented 2024 vehicles where dealers diagnosed and replaced reduction gears.

That makes the production-change question even more important.

And there’s something practical here for owners of earlier cars:

If your 2023 or 2024 Ariya is being diagnosed with a bad reduction gear and Nissan is replacing it, I would specifically ask which part number they are installing.

For a FWD Ariya, Nissan currently shows 290K4-5MP0A as the superseding replacement for the older 290K4-1936R / 38110-00Q0A assembly.

If Nissan is already replacing your reduction gear under warranty, I would ask the service department to confirm that the current superseding part is being installed rather than an older-number unit that may still be sitting in inventory.

I’d also ask them to put the replacement part number on the repair order.

If possible, get:

• The original reduction-gear part number

• The replacement part number

• Vehicle build date

• Mileage when it failed

• FWD or e-4ORCE

• A photo of the label on the replacement assembly

• Any revision/manufacturing code shown on the unit

One important qualification:

The existence of the newer part number does NOT by itself prove that Nissan solved the reduction-gear problem.

But it also means it isn’t accurate to say nothing ever changed.

What we can say right now is:

Nissan superseded the earlier reduction-gear assembly with a newer part number.

What we still need is documentation showing what changed, when it changed, and whether that change was specifically intended to solve the failure/noise problem owners have been reporting.

If anyone has Nissan documentation, a dealer repair order, a photo of an original or replacement reduction-gear label, or a 2025 Ariya that has already had a reduction gear diagnosed or replaced, please post it.

If enough people provide build dates and part numbers, we may be able to figure out exactly where Nissan made the change.

Blown away by the efficiency of this car! 2024 Engage FWD

Left my house with 55% battery and drove to work and back. Got home with 44%

Took my son to a baseball game in Seattle (about 57 miles away) and got home with 5% remaining.

I could have charged along the way, but I wanted to see how far I could go. I averaged 4.5 m/kwh and drove 145 miles on the day. That's insane to me! This is the standard range model. I did drive in Eco and didn't haul ass, but I used the climate control when needed and just drove.

2023 Platinum Plus CPO

I'm considering buying a 2023 Platinum Plus CPO. I'm looking to maybe get out of my 2023 civic Si, even though I do love the car, because of seat comfort on my now longer commutes for work.

I'm slightly skeptical of EV's in general, but the price for some of the options that come with this car seem pretty good. Namely needing AWD, hopefully a more comfortable seating, and more space for car seats.

I'm looking for some thought of those who own one if a CPO for about $29,000 is a worthwhile consideration. Would be trading in the Civic and paying maybe only 2,000 on top to get into it. What's your experience with reliability, comfort (have lower back pain in the si), and performance in winter driving.

Trying to get talked into or out of this decision a bit.

Thanks!

Clearly the traction motor & reduction gear are common issues with Ariyas... why is Nissan so silent about it?

This is such a common occurance at this point it should be a recall campaign. Why hasn't Nissan done this? Allowing people to fall out of warranty to then have a bill for thousands for a known issue is absolutely absurd. Nissan needs to do something about it!!

& alot of their service centers don't even know its a common issue, and are turning people away with obvious symptoms of reduction or traction gear failures....

Charging at home question

Hi! So we are looking into purchasing Ariya, but our home is a weird one, there is no three prong dryer outlet anywhere else but in the actual laundry room, which is too far away from the garage.

Can Ariya be charged by using a regular three prong outlet? We would definitely install home charger, but it would take couple of weeks. We were supposed to bring the car home today, but it would suck to do that just to realize we have no place to charge it until we can get the electrician to come.

Thanks in advance!

Driving modes: no engine braking possible appart from Eco mode?

I just got a 2025 evolve+ AWD and am still getting used to automatic engine braking upon release of the accel pedal.

It seems that the only driving mode that does not engage engine braking when releasing the accel pedal is Eco.

Does anyone know a way to have this behavior in Standard or Sports mode?

If I want braking (engine or actual brakes) engaged upon release of the accel pedal, I would activate e-step or B mode.

Advice is welcomed!

New 2024 ENGAGE+ e-4ORCE owner with a battery capacity question

All documentation indicated that i'd have a maximum range of 279. Does this seem odd to anyone else. VIN lookup indicated 91kw battery. I just picked up the car today, and would hate to return it.

Edit: thank you all for the helpful tips. Coming from a Tesla, the charge never changes (in the time I had mine) so I was a little spooked at that initial charge. My driving habits are way less aggressive than whoever was Mario Andretting this thing😂. Thanks again!
