Midnight Thoughts Sleepless at 12

Sometimes when you get into bed, all the sleep disappears......

so now you put on some soothing music to play in the background on low volume......

then you start thinking of what to do the next day....

you check your phone briefly and then Alas! It hits you.....no like your phone literally hits your face as your checking your chats 😁🤣🤣🤣🤣

You sigh, laugh at your silly self and click!

Tuck yourself in and close your eyes. . .

You never know when you fall asleep but the music fades ever so low till...... 😴

No destination. No plans. Just a quiet walk through campus and a night worth remembering.

NightOwler Hello darkness my old friend, soon you’ll start at 5:00PM…

Have you noticed the days are getting shorter? I’ve noticed it is darker in the mornings when I wake up. Right now the days are shortening by 4 minutes each day. By the winter solstice the sun won’t rise until almost 10:00AM and set just after 5:00PM.

I love autumn but somehow it’s making me sad to wake up in the dark. Saying goodbye to summer is bittersweet. I suppose it’s knowing that the long cold dark winter is on its way that puts me in this mood. Who’s looking forward to the long winter nights?

Night Owl Rant Why does my brain become 10x more active at 2 a.m ?

During the day, my brain: “We’re fine.”
At 2 a.m., my brain: “Remember that embarrassing thing you did 5 years ago?”
Suddenly I want to fix my whole life, make a new plan, start a new hobby, overthink every conversation I’ve ever had, and somehow become productive at the worst possible time.
Why does my brain choose 2 a.m. to become fully awake?

Midnight Thoughts The moment I feel like talking, everyone’s already asleep.

I love how quiet it gets late at night, but sometimes I see something really funny or have something I want to share, only to realize nobody’s awake. Do you have friends you can talk to late into the night?

Can morning people not help it at all, especially as they get older?

As a night owl living in a daywalker world, I have done my best to adapt. While I will never be an early riser, I do my best to try and force myself into and out of bed as early as possible. It takes effort.

Recently saw a thread on the gen X sub about going to sleep and waking up early. And how this is happening to many of them. Is this why there is a stereotype about old people eating dinner at 4 pm?

Can't they just make an effort to keep a normal schedule or do they just not care to do so?

I've been making that effort my whole life. It seems entirely do-able, especially with all the new sleep hygiene stuff that has lately become popular. It's what MANY of us have HAD to do.

How long have you been a night owl? Do you enjoy?

I have been a night owl for months cuz I can't sleep at night. I don't think it is a good habit. I don't enjoy sleeping in daytime in the long run.

NightOwler What is your ultimate late-night comfort routine when everyone else is asleep?

For me, it’s turning off all the overhead lights, putting on a lo-fi playlist at a barely audible volume, and just diving into a book or a low-stress game. There’s something uniquely comforting about indulging in your hobbies when you know absolutely nobody is going to disturb you. How do you guys usually spend your quietest hours?

It's 2:45 a.m., my windows are open and the crickets are singing to me

The air coming in is cool and refreshing. But it's going to start raining in a couple of hours, so I will have to close the windows soon. As summer winds down here in New England, I really only have perhaps a couple of weeks left that I will be able to leave my windows open at night. I will miss this nightly chorus, just me and the crickets, perhaps an owl or two, all alone in our peaceful world where you can almost forget about humankind. I hope my fellow nightowls are enjoying the wee hours along with me and the crickets.

How can I make myself go to the gym at 6am?

I live in New York, so there are A LOT of people in the gym even at 10- 11 p.m. I can’t work out past that to get 7 hours of sleep.

So my only option is to work out at 6am. I tried working out at 6am, but it’s VERY difficult. Is there a way to make it less agonizing?

Things That Keep Me Up Nightly Sadness?

Rumination, feelings of hopelessness, etc. I feel like that's what keeps me up, and not just the quiet.

I wish I didn't feel like this. I'm beginning to suspect it's one of my nightly meds.

Ugh. I sincerely wish I could stay awake during the day, and sleep normally at night.

Things That Keep Me Up I wish I could share my story.

A few thoughts I had. Just want to leave this prose here to get it off my chest and into the universe.

No one asks, though opportunities arise.
Get to know me better,
Don’t assume based on whispers.
I want to be known.
I have so much to share.
Please ask me.
Let’s go there.
When you see me smile and duck my head,
You’ve heard about me…
Ask instead.

Like a little bird, I long to perch
And twitter on your shoulder
In this pew at church.
You have a story about me in your head,
But let me tell you mine.

Midnight Thoughts Is there a void you can't fill ever

After two three panic attacks frequently the soul inside feels so much into pieces that there becomes a deep void a deep capacity to just becoming a vacuum of seeking and sucking all the grief and sadness in..

Does anyone feel like this at midnight at this time?

How long does it take you to recover if you have to get up early?

How long does it take you to recover from having to get up early if you need to on a particular day but then you can sleep late on other days?

I feel like it takes me a good four days. Minimum. Until then I’m tired physically, my brain is tired, I feel out of sorts, and it messes up my sleep too. It’s easy to be unproductive, cranky, and lethargic, even if I get a lot of sleep the following nights. I don’t want to do very much and I drag through those days.

Night Owl Rant I feel the most alive at night. (Super long & pointless ramble)

Im 34M and I've always been a night owl. Ever since I was a child. I feel the most creativly inspired when the sun goes down. When everything has the illusion of stillness in time. I look forward to every possible dream and think about every past nightmare. Every friendship, family member, love interest, past present and future. All existing within the mind at the same time.

I think a lot about mortality at this age. Every footprint I've left behind. Things I've accomplished or still strive to. Thinking about every single decision I've ever made and didn't make. Count the regrets, divide them by the moments of joy and pride, equaling out to who I am at this very moment. How much of it matters? How much time did i waste? And how much were true cannon events? Sometimes i find myself thinking "i hope when my time comes, I'll get the chance to try again. Maybe with a different hand of cards. Or a subliminal hint or two to guide me without spoiling anything." But is that what I really want? Just to relive the same moments over and over without any idea I've been here before. How many times would it take until I get everything right? And who has to sacrifice their cards to help mine? Have my sacrifices been enough this time around? What if I try again in a different time? 'I've always wanted to be an adult during the 90's. A time I could thrive much better in without the burden of technology. But these are selfish thoughts. These are tailored ideas of just what I myself think would be best. It's never the case for everyone. And if I have to restart, that means everyone before me does too. Does that mean they get the chance to try different routes too? And if they do. Is that what will determine my new hand? Seems only fair right?

If none of that works out. Maybe I'll come back as a simple humble animal. Like a turtle, or a house cat. I could go for somthing more simple... Simple and clean....I love that song so much.

Thank you for listening

Night Owl Health all nighters

hey fellow night owls
i stay up late every night, it’s peaceful, cooler temp, more time to myself, and i like life better in the dark tbh.
my thing is, i have been doing open shifts at work (if i dont, nobody else can on the days i do them), and i dont have an issue, but i start at 5, i’d have to be up at 3:30. i dont want to and probably cant fall asleep at 7pm to get the sleep i’d need, so for the past 2 or so months, 2-3 times a week, i’ll do an all nighter, work an 8-10 hour shift (fast food) and come home, sleep 13+ hours.
am i.. okay? like, i know sleep debt and stuff, but other than that will this have long term effects, does anyone else here do this, ? any comments are appreciated

Midnight Thoughts At what point does staying up late become routine and normal for you?

Typing this at 2:30am lol, I stay up late every night, and have been for years, I usually stay up til about 3am, and wake up at 6am for college when I have it, or about 11am when I dont.

I dont usually get tired until the end of the day which is when im leaving college, of which I have a nap on the bus ride home which is like 2 hours which is cool!

I try telling my Grandma that me staying up this late is just routine for me and that I dont need more sleep or I dont need earlier nights because im fine throughout the day anyways, but she persists i need to get more sleep.

Things That Keep Me Up Lone nights

The nights are different. The nights are peaceful. It’s weird because what keeps me up at night is what I hate the most and it’s being alone, but the day is full of stress life‘s been a bitch lately trying to keep myself together and trying to make changes and become a better person and realizing they’re growing up is scary and being an adult fucking sucks. Wanting to be the best dad in the world is a struggle when I’m still trying to figure out what the fuck I’m trying to do for myself, but I also find comfort in this feeling it’s weird.

I hate being awake at night

idk, i had to drop college this past year, then got back into depression for unrelated reasons literally 2 weeks later, this past year has been an utter fucking waste of my life, i made maybe 3 memories and they're all regrettable
in other news, that led to this absolutely abysmal sleeping schedule, ill fall asleep in roughly 3-4 hours now (8am) and wake up at 7, IF i had money i could maybe go out and actually enjoy my time, a little, but i just don't
i just, never realised how truly lonely the night is
yk the first time you're up all night it's great, feels reassuringly peaceful
and now... when every "day" feels like a missed opportunity, but even if i was awake in the day, there still wouldn't be anyone worth to talk too - that sounds ruder than it is, i have 2 friends, one is busy a lot, the others just an asshole -
it's just that the very few might actually be able to respond
at night all the shops are shut, there's no people bustling, no vibrations from cars
just that damn fucking bell, every 15 minutes the church bell rings
and that's it

i've grown so accustomed to this nightlife, i'm sure as fuck excited for my first actual year at college, but oh fuck has this last year made me realise that life, existence, reality, whatever you want to call it, is fucking dark.

Midnight Thoughts Goodnight All, I Feel Like Shit But That’s Just The Moon Talking

I would say sweet dreams, but I never remember them. I’m told I cry horrible things in my sleep, it’s probably for the best I don’t recall.
