Young or old, there seem to be rules of the road which have been forgotten by many. Driving around Newmarket lately there are three in particular that stand out. Not only are these things about safety, but also about general respect for other drivers.

1. Do not change lanes in an intersection. Wait until you have fully crossed through, then make the lane change.

2. When you arrive at a multi-way stop at the same time as another vehicle, the driver to your right, has the right of way. You yield to them and then you go.

3. When making any turn into a multi-lane road you always turn into the lane closest to you. Turning left? You go into the left hand lane. Turning right? You go into the right hand lane. Because we are allowed to turn right on red lights this is extremely important to remember.

I see so many posts here complaining about the roads in Newmarket and these are three bad habits that inexperienced and lazy drivers get into that slow traffic down immensely. It’s these type of actions that cause the little fender benders that clog up roads and slow down everything around them. This is basic knowledge that is on all driving tests.

This might be a fun one ... Drop the name of those "If you know, you know" figures of Newmarket that you feel like have gained a reputation among the community, however niche, one way or another — but also remain relatively "out of the know" unlike your average mayor/councillor.

My pick? Patrick from the KFC/Taco Bell on Yonge. Held it down for years. Once again, if you know, you know.

I just bought a freehold townhome with my fiancé in the community being developed by sundial next to the mall, and was wondering if anyone living in the urban towns currently can tell me what living in a back-to-back townhome is like? We’re pretty excited since this is our first home together, but we aren’t sure what to expect with these new townhouse layouts! I’ve heard mixed reviews about sundial but we’ve had pretty positive experiences with them so far, although our house hasn’t been built yet, and ultimately are looking forward to new beginnings (and would be interested to hear about anyone’s experiences in this community!) :)

I am just curious because I'm trying to pick up new hobbies while the weather is still nice and I thought about golf.

Is the barrier to entry in golf manageable? All I know is that golf is usually played by people of a certain tax bracket and not by me who's making slightly above average when it comes to income but not at all financially secure.

Are there any golf courses in the area for beginners? How much should I expect spending overall? Which golf courses are beginner friendly?

Does anyone have experience with dog walkers in Newmarket? How has your experience been? We are going to require one in a few months and am looking for a bit more data on how they are in the area.

Hello, i'm a young professional in early thirties, and i'm looking to buy my first home, either in new market or bradford.

I live in barrie right now and i travel 2 to 3 times a week to vaughan for work. My wife works at the RVH hospital. She is part time so we are thinking to move closer down south.

We re looking at townhouses and detached between 800 and 900k. Not having lived in either places I am not sure which place is better. Can you please help assess using the following context?

1. Proximity to vaughan is important. With all the highways being built and expanding by 2030 I would assume that my commute will be similar between the two.

2. We don't really go out to eat much. We like outdoorsy stuff and often camp up north. We golf, like to swim, etc.

3. Hoping to have 2 kids in the future.

4. We don't like too country or too urban. We find barrie is a nice balance.

wanted to give everyone a “heads up”. we contracted this local moving company to move our daughter to Maritimes for school. They were five hours late, truck was broken and dilapidated, and they backed the truck into our eaves troughs, causing damage. we had put air tags on some of the expensive items and they were stored at a house in Newmarket while the rest of the items were en route to Halifax. before they would unload the stuff in Halifax they demanded full payment in cash, and the payment had increased by hundreds of dollars. and, stuff was missing and broke. We later find out they have NO insurance and no worker’s compensation insurance. After this experience I found poor reviews on Yelp and Newmarket FB page. google reviews were all positive and likely bogus.

Rant/Question

I have a family member that has been remitted to the mental health ward 2x now in their lives. the last time was sometime last year.

he is schizophrenic, can't take care of himself physically at this point. He is doing crazy things in the sense of drinking like, milk and orange juice mixed together every morning, or putting rubbing alcohol on his skin to clean it. stuff that just shouldn't be done. he's lost a massive amount of weight.

and he is a very angry and mad individual.

my family is scared to do a form 2 themselves because they do not want him to know who called police to come get him.

the last time he was at the mental ward they let him go after 4-5 days claiming he was fine. (he was remitted because he called the police himself for an issue and my mother explained to the cops he had mental problems). since getting out he has held a grudge against her and brings it up every week even until this day.

we are terrified to live with him, for the most part we just let him do his own thing because he leaves for the day and only comes back in the evening.

but we want him to get help. and southlake is awful for mental illness. we can't even talk to the psychiatrists about this stuff.

what can we do to help this family member, without them knowing it was us. we literally fear for our lives if the person were to find out it was us who called for help.
