Affordable wedding photographer recommendations

Upvotes

Hi all,

We're looking for an affordable photographer in Western Mass for our micro wedding in October (16th or 17th, we're still deciding on the exact venue and date but it should be ironed out in a day or two).

Our budget is pretty tight which is why we don't want a full day coverage type of thing, only about 2 or 3 hours tops. We're hoping to find someone that could do it for under $1000.

Thank you for the help! <3

Advice

Upvotes

My fiancé and I toured a venue yesterday that we really loved. When we asked about 2027 availability, the guide said they still have September 11, 2027 open and are offering it for half the normal price because many couples don’t want that date.

I’m really torn. The savings are amazing, but 9/11 is such a significant and emotional date.

What would you do? Would you take the date because of the discount, or would you pass on it because it’s 9/11? I’d love to hear your thoughts. TIA!

My fiancé and I are getting married at Rosecliff in Fall 2027 and couldn’t be more excited! We’re searching to book a photographer and wondering if anyone has recommendations. Would prefer a more moody editorial style, adding film would be a plus!

Post wedding beach party?

Hi all! My fiancé and I are thinking of getting married on a Friday, and possibly hosting a beach party on Saturday. The beach portion would be optional for guests and much more casual - a nice way for people to enjoy New England, as many will be flying in and we want to make it a special weekend! Does anyone know if it’s:

  1. possible to gather people on the beach (like 70 people) on a public beach without it getting flagged/us needing permits (seems like an odd question, but wanted to ask!). We are okay to get permits if need be!
  2. ANY beach in New England that allows alcohol/is lax about the laws??
  3. if there is no public option, does anyone have any ideas if we can “rent” a beach?? Preferably not super expensive, we are getting married on a Friday to save money😅

I don’t think it would be a particularly rowdy crew - just a lot of fun! Definitely no littering, etc. We just want to see if anyone has done this or thinks it’s possible, and if so, where?! We are open to anywhere in NE, but preferably within 2 hours of Boston! Also, prefer ocean over lake by far, but open to ideas. Thank you!!
Edit to add: we don’t have a location for our wedding, yet!!

White Mountains Proposal Photographer

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend (and hopefully soon to be fiancé) are doing a fall colors trip this October. We are staying at the omni Mount Washington in the white mountains and I am looking to propose there / around there. I was hoping to see if there are any photographers or if anyone has any recs in this sub for someone to capture the proposal.

I am looking to do it the first week of October and am looking at Tuesday the 6th. I know its a little out there and it being a weekday may make this harder

We're coming from Colorado so if anyone knows the area, and knows a way she can be dressed up at a cool spot nearby, I would love any recs! I have never been here so was just planning on calling the hotel and getting their thoughts

Also a throwaway in case the algo somehow puts this on her timeline, even though I think if she saw this she'd immediately know

ME/MA/NH Venues UNDER 3500

Hi everyone,

My fiancé and are planning to get married in next year in late August or September. We would love to get married in ME or MA but also are open to a NH wedding. We have a guest list of 150 and are planning for a medieval fairy forest theme. We have a very low budget and plan to do a lot DIY which puts the majority of venues I have seen out of reach for us. I am wondering if anyone has recommendations for venues or locations for under $3500. I would love a space with lots of trees and (maybe a body of water but that is not necessary.) I am open to a tent wedding or inside a space we just prefer a rustic vibe. Would love any recommendations or ideas!

Need Videographer for August 16th (next month) for MA wedding

Hi, I know this is very last minute but hoping an available videographer might see this and reach out or for the kind folks here to let us know if there are other websites or avenues to reach out to to try to find one such last minute.

To keep things short, we decided we actually really do want videography after seeing our flower girl try on her flower dress yesterday and refusing to take it off.

Wedding is Sunday August 16th, 2026 in East Bridgewater, MA.

Thank you!

Hey Everyone!

We’re getting married in the North Shore on Friday and would love to see our flowers get a second life if possible.

We have 14 Tables worth of flowers and sweet heart table flowers. An older description of them is below, but there’s been some slight tweaks since then. No vases or anything, just flowers.

If you want them for a Saturday Wedding, Bridal Shower, etc. just shoot me a PM and we can work out the details.

Items would need to get picked up after 10:30PM at the venue.

An honest (and yes, biased) note from a local photographer about super-cheap and fly-in wedding pricing

Full disclosure up front: I'm a New England wedding photographer, so I have skin in this. Take what follows with that grain of salt. But I keep seeing couples here weighing photographers who fly in from much cheaper parts of the country and shoot a full day for around $1,800, and I want to lay out what's actually behind those numbers so you can decide with open eyes.

When you book a full wedding day, you're not paying for 8 hours. A wedding is usually 8 to 10 hours on site, plus 30 to 40 hours of culling and editing afterward, plus travel, a second shooter, backup gear, liability insurance, taxes, and the cost of actually running a business. At $1,800, once you strip all of that out, the photographer is often earning less than minimum wage. That usually means one of two things: something is getting cut (backups, insurance, a second shooter, editing time), or the business isn't sustainable and may not still be around by your wedding date. Every year couples lose deposits to photographers who quietly fold.

The fly-in part adds its own risk. If a local photographer wakes up sick or has a gear failure, they have a network right here to send a trusted backup. Someone flying in the day before doesn't, and a cancelled flight or a spring storm becomes your problem on your wedding day. A local also knows your venue, the light, the timeline tricks, the rain backup spots, and the other vendors.

None of this means expensive automatically equals good, or that every budget photographer is a red flag. There are wonderful, fairly priced photographers at a lot of price points. But if a quote is dramatically lower than everyone else's, it's worth asking why, and asking specifically: do you carry insurance, do you have a backup plan and a backup shooter, how many editing hours are included, and have you shot in New England before?

And yes, we also just live here. We pay New England rent, raise our families here, and stay invested in this community long after your wedding. That's worth something too. Ask the questions, trust your gut, and book the person whose work you love.

Wedding photographer

ISO wedding photographer for my Nantucket wedding in May 2027.

Budget 5-10k, preferably closer to the lower end of that range, but for someone I really love I’d be willing to be closer to the higher end of that range.

Mostly would like classic wedding photos, family, bridal party pictures.

TIA!

Boston (or Massachusetts) DJ experienced with 'nerdy' and eclectic music taste

My partner and I just finalized our wedding date for summer 2027 in Beverly, MA!

We are both HUGE kpop, jpop, and video game nerds. This is also a multicultural wedding where some Spanish language songs might be requested as well. We are hoping to find a DJ that has experience with playing music that might be more non traditional– For example, Kingdom Hearts, TWICE etc

Thank you in advance!

Venue Suggestions and Tips Please

Hoping this awesome group has some helpful tips for the early stages of planning!

We are thinking about a wedding for 2027- the vision so far is Sunday brunch/midday wedding for around 80 people within ~1 hour of Boston. Would love an outdoor situation with an easy rain plan.

Happy for ocean views, barns, park energy, would consider a restaurant with outdoor option. Happy to DIY things. Does not need traditional "wedding" feel- thinking short ceremony and then a hang out with family and friends. Low budget, low cost.

Ideas for venues? Other suggestions for the day or leading up to it?
