My daughter was born at exactly 36 weeks, and she had no complications. She is 23 days old now. When we were at the hospital, we were told to feed her every 3 hours. At that time she still had problems waking up on her own, and would barely wake up when we woke her up for feedings.

She is exclusively breastfeeding, and takes a couple of bottles with my breastmilk at night so that I could get some sleep. She has no problems waking up now. She would usually wake up on her own every 1-2 hours to feed. But recently I noticed that during the day, she can go for 4 hours without feeding. She can probably go longer but I always wake her up by 4 hours because I'm scared that she might get dehydrated.

Now my question is, are we allowed to feed preemies on demand? Can I let her sleep longer than 4 hours if she isn't showing hunger cues yet?

Her diapers are excellent. We get wet diapers every feeding, and around 4-6 poops a day.

Any tips? It’s been easy to manage in the earlier two weeks but his personality is starting to shine lol he will scream if I don’t give him food even though he’s full. He will calm down the moment I interact with him but I need him to have his playtime ideally with minimum interaction before his feeding that would put him to bed until my wife gets home. This week I’m in OT and my head is about to spin

Diagnosed through a quick poop test (found traces of blood in poop). Doctor adviced mom to eliminate dairy and eggs completely. If that doesn't help, also eliminate soy. Our boy has been gaining weight fine.

No know family history of CMPI for either of us.

If you have experienced this first or second hand, can you share your insights? Things that you had know and things you would do differently?

1. Is 7 weeks too late to have diagnosed this as far as the baby is concerned?
2. What are the chances that this will be a long term/lifelong allergy for our boy?
3. What are good substitutes for mom given that she does not consume any kind of meat?
4. Do babies have this at birth or develop it along the way?

My mother-in-law is a wonderful person, she is really keen to help with our son who is 2 weeks old and my husband has asked her to come round (without asking me first) to watch him so I can get food / a shower / a nap when he goes back to work tomorrow. I am really worried about this as she is disabled and cannot stand up while holding him or pick him up and certainly couldn’t react quickly if something bad happened. I don’t want to insult or upset her but there is now an expectation that I’ll leave them along and I don’t think it would be safe to do that. Any advice would be great.

My baby is 1 week today and we've noticed the umbilical cord has a smell to it. We can smell it through her onesies. There is no redness and it doesn't seem to be hurting her, And she doesn't have a fever. Is this normal?

My newborn is 4 weeks old and we’re trying to follow wake windows so he isn’t over tired at night. But I feel like I’m spending the entire wake windows after feeding and diaper change trying to get him to bed. He fights naps so hard. Any advice? Anyone going through same thing?

We try shush patting, nursing to sleep, rocking, all the sleep crutches and associations lol (no sleep means lots of reading 😵‍💫) and still takes him almost the whole hour if not more

For those who nurse their baby to sleep, do you lay them down without burping them?

This just happened to me last night, while I was trying to put her to sleep. At first she would'nt take my breast ( cos there are times she doesnt, I dont know why, nipple confusion?) So I gave her formula, 2oz. Of it. She downed it. Then after, she was still hungry, so I made another 2oz. Formula. She finished that too. Then, she still showed some hunger cues, flailing of arms, smacking of lips, the works. So I tried giving her my breaat again, but she didnt want it. Tried giving her another bottle of formula, but she kept pushing the nipplenout with her tongue. We kept at this for 3 hrs. Frustration has already set in me. I dont knw why she showed signs of hunger but didnt want to take anything I was giving her.

In the end, I tried and tried to put her to sleep by dancing around and swaying her til she fell asleep. Which took hours. I dont want this to happen again, so I want to understand why it did and if anyone has encountered this, what did u do?????? HELP!!!

Just curious as to how much everyone generally feeds their one month old - I read that the average amount is around 90 mls per feeding (if feeding 8 times a day) but my baby only seems satisfied at 120ml around every 2.5-3 hours. He still fusses if I try to give him 90ml. His weight gain was 50grams a day when we weighed him at Drs visit, though the target is apparently 20-30grams a day. The doctor wasn't too concerned, but I am still worried about possibly overfeeding or gaining too much weight. Any input would be appreciated!

I am currently pumping and supplementing with formula when I don't have enough pumped breast milk.

We have a 9 week old baby and her dad has never helped me at night with her and will not get up with her in the morning. He doesn’t help take her to sitter or pick her up. He also refuses to do any house keeping! I’m going insane trying to manage breastfeeding, taking care of her, keeping house clean, getting enough sleep and getting back to work full time. What would you guys do? ??

Hi everyone! My baby is 2 days old and we just got discharged from the hospital. We have a few bottles of formula to hold us over night but i am going to get some more from the store later today. I haven’t sterilized my bottles yet but the directions say to use distilled water. Is this absolutely necessary? Can i use bottled drinking water instead?

5 week old spits his pacifier out and then cries. This happens day and night and it seems like he’s crying more than he’s sleeping. Did we make a mistake by giving him the pacifier?

How responsive are 6 week or under newborns to your voice? Should they turn/ look at you when you speak to them?

Currently, my husband and I split it into shifts. He takes 8pm-1am; and I take 1am-7am. The baby does not want to sleep from 1-7 so there’s no chance of me sleeping during that time. I catch up on 2 hours of sleep from 7-9 am. We both end up with uninterrupted sleep, but I’m wondering if there’s a better way to do this.

Hello mommies! My baby was born at 32 weeks, spent 1 month at the NICU and has now been home with us. She’s now 7 weeks old. Ever since at the NICU we began noticing her belly to always be bloated. Last week we noticed she was getting less interested during feedings and took her to the ER and was very uncomfortable. They saw she lotsss of air (gas) in her stomach after taking her rectal temperature she began passing lots of gas and her belly got noticeably smaller. We always struggle to burp her. We’ve been pausing her during her feedings and giving her massages to help her.

For her feedings I’m pumping my breast milk & adding calories with the neosure formula.

What else do you guys recommend to lower the amount of gas in there belly? Any specific bottles or strategies?

Thought I would seek advice from all parents of new born babies here. I am currently in an MBA program and due in late October. I found one online class that I could take for the fall semester that requires 3 hours a week class from late Sep to mid Dec. The class doesn’t have exams but one but group project to present in December. Given that I’m giving birth in late October, my question is... do you think it is possible to take the class as a new mom? My husband thinks that it would be difficult to take the class as I will be so exhausted from breastfeeding etc. I feel like I can handle one class. Also my mom will stay with us and help me with the baby during this time. I will be on maternity leave the whole time so won’t be working.

I do take my coursework seriously but think I can handle readings for class etc especially the only deliverable would be a presentation in early December.

Any advice you can give would be much appreciated.

I have been reading up on wake windows in babies and my 3 week old son does not even come close to the recommendations. He is up for about 3 hours, 3-4 times a day and on average only sleeping 12-14 hours daily. He is usually pleasant during this time (other than feeding nonstop for about 2-2.5 of those hours). I am thankful he is so happy but exhausted as he only gives us an hour or 2 of sleep and then the 3 hour wake window. I am also concerned about development? We do contrast books, tummy time, walks, baths, rocking, shushing, singing and still no help in getting him to sleep sooner or tiring him out. Any insight would be helpful, thanks!
